okay actually im going to elaborate on this.
so electro's an entire deal is alienation, being an outsider, lack of understanding between yourself and the people around you, however you want to say it.
that is ei's entire thing
it does not excuse her role in all her wrongdoings but it provides extremely!!! important context for everything.
why'd she declare the vision hunt decree? she made a judgement call with pretty much 0 interaction or understanding of humans. she did what she thought was best, unaware of how limited her understanding was.
how did things continue to get so bad in inazuma? information was purposefully kept from her this time. the tenryou and kanjou commission were both preventing ei from figuring out just how bad things had become.
the reason why her character pretty much does a 180 after the traveler confronts her? is because she finally has some fucking information about her people. they force her to see "hey youre not protecting anyone. what you are doing is only hurting people and inazuma is gonna change whether you like it or not."
AND THEN SHE CHANGES BC SHE KNOWS BETTER
now scaramouche. she discarded a kid which like shit move, lady, we can all agree that was a real bad move.
but guys. guys this comes back to the ei not knowing jack or shit about the people around her or what she's doing thing.
she wasn't trying to make a kid. she was trying to make a vessel. a doll. a puppet robot android like katheryne that doesn't really have free will and is just programmed to do what she wants.
BUT UH OH ONE UNEXPECTED ARTIFICIAL BABY LATER
she set him loose because she thought she was doing him a favor! does this woman even know what a baby is?
ei has seriously fucked up I dont think thats arguable. but seeing people characterize her as evil and heartless is so frustrating because it completely undermines her motives and her role in the story. that's just not at all how she operates.
ei is a woman who operates on grief, trapped inside her own world, unable to connect with the people around her. she's frustratingly clueless and disconnected from other people, and that is what makes her the way she is.
she's genuinely able to change things for the better once she actually connects with other people. she isn't uncaring.
also its just so obvious when people just want to use her as "evil witch responsible for scara's mommy issues" like youre not slick people can tell when you want to metaphorically fridge her for your edgy misunderstood bad boy whump (and this is coming from someone who enjoys and has written scaramouche whump!!! I like digging into that freak's problems!!)
anyway. she's not the best written character but she is a character with actual dimension and depth. you dont have to like her and frankly im not her biggest fan either, but at least do her the service of acknowledging her beyond a cookie cutter evil archetype.
I do not think it was a good choice on Ei's part to abandon Scaramouche but I am going to be glaring very judgmentally at people who use Scaramouche to flatten Ei and disregard her as a 2 dimensional villain
