Coming to your nearest comic book shop.....never
What could've been--the untold odyssey of the Megaroad-01 across the great milky way!
Ever since the original broadcast of Super Dimension Fortress Macross and the release of the music video Flashback 2012, many fans have always wondered what happened to the original cast before the.....how should I put it....."arbitrary narrative decision" [and their rather "questionable" participation via the last piece of Macross Delta content] and since I got on a rather Protocultural mood I decided to make this little Fanart! a mock-up comic cover inspired by The Comico Comic Company's adaptation of Macross through it's Robotech counterpart [specifically: issue 35 ].
[Sidenote: to be honest--its one of the few covers I liked from their work] Basically what I did was: setting it up in the Macross universe and stripping away it's Robotech robes, changing the context of the original [and to quote one of my friends, make it less "Instinctively patriotic" feeling in comparison to the Comico ver.] with "the Eve of the Space Emigration Initiative" as the background/new context.
To be frank with you fellas: Originally I was going to just leave the drawing alone like that--but the idea of making a "mock-up comic cover variant" won me over and honestly it makes me want to practice my skills on creating cover art not just for Macross related content [or any franchise really] but also for my original projects in the near future as well.
Before I end the post with the variants of this Fanart I have some special mentions/credit to give:
Mechaban
I recommend y'all give him a watch or check out his work, as he not only does Macross but also work based on Mospeada and Southern Cross [especially in their Robotech counterparts + the Robotech EU among other cool stuff], and he's the same cool dude who provided us Protoculture Fans a mock-up of what Hikaru's dress uniform might look like which I used for this Fanart.

A girl to kill for, die for. Surely the town had one. The Miss Macross pageant, Captain Bruno J. Global's last-ditch attempt to avoid mandating conscription aboard the SDF-1, will have unintended consequences for him, for her, and all mankind. An AU inspired by the side stories, the Pachinko machine, and being a young woman for the cusp of the '10s.

Have you played Robotech : The Macross Saga Roleplaying Game
By Jeff Mechlinski & Bryan Young

An alien menace descends upon the SDF-1 in droves. You, your friends, and the might of Robotechnology are the only things that stand between them and seventy thousand innocent civilians. Do not expect to make it home. Do not expect to see your friends again. Do whatever it takes to ensure humanity’s future.
Welcome to Robotech.
As the cockpit of your VF-1A slowly closes, you hear a small hiss of the compartment pressurizing. The elevator slowly raises. At first all you see is the void of deep space. Then, you see the flight deck. Ahead of you a large swarm of Zentraedi Pods races toward your home. Luckily, you have friends. They will watch your back, or at least, console your love if you don’t make it home. Now is your time to do you job. You have a two protoculture driven engines, 200 rounds of exploding ammo, and three transformable modes.
Play as an iconic Robotech Hero, or build your own. Choose from the following careers:
Pilot: Take control of your very own Veritech fighter. Or play as the Zentraedi and take on the RDF! Entertainer: Do what you do best – keep people happy and confuse the enemy as you dazzle onstage. Spy: No one knows your real name or your real purposes. Are you helping your friends, or just using them? Marine: Pilots get the glory, but ground pounders have all the fun. Hey marines have Destroids too! Technician: Play as a scientist, doctor, or mechanic. Solve the problems that no one else can solve. Officer: Control your very own Naval Vessel, or help command the SDF-1. Volunteer: You have chosen a cause, and wish to help. What does a civilian like you bring to the table?
The Robotech: Macross Saga RPG is 264 pages of amazing full color art goodness. Fans of Robotech will not be disappointed. Along with the rules, is a 50 page Scenario section that outlines the entire Robotech: Macross Saga. Take action along with your favorite heroes or villains, or play as them. The unique system allows for personal level, mecha level, and naval level action. Take on conflicts and drama to secure your future and get the SDF-1 home. Every turn, with every action, you have something interesting to do.
The game is played based around a conflict system that invloves all types of characters, from Valkyrie Pilots to Entertainers. Take actions by making combos of skills from a comprehensive list. Each turn is broken into action phases:
Support Operations Cinematic
As you interact with the conflicts, you will acrrue drama and fatigue, which allows you to choose how you interact with the story. The game is 1 part PBTA, 1 part Forged, and 1 part Old School. Every action taken, has the potential to impact the world around you.
Along with the amazing art and scenarios are short stories about the Robotech Universe. Immerse yourself in the fiction.

40 Years of Robotech (1985 - 2025)

In 4th of March in 1985, a new space opera concept in the form of a TV series hit the American shores.
In order to satisfy the requirements of a minimum of 65 episodes for broadcasting on weekday (monday to friday) TV on syndication, producer Carl Macek and Harmony Gold USA in association with Tatsunoko Co. Ltd., took three unrelated anime series with very similar elements to combine them in the Robotech saga.
They exceeded the requirement by making a total of 85 episodes
Those two elements that made to unite the three series in one story were space opera and the heavy use of mechas.
Mecha is the anime term for giant robots usually operated by a human being inside.
Henceforth, those three unrelated series: Super Dimension Fortress Macross, Super Dimension Calvary Southern and Genesis Climber MOSPEADA became The Macross Saga, The Masters and The New Generation respectively from the concept of Robotech.
The First War (The Macross Saga):

At the ending part of the 20th Century, the Earth was in a global scale war. Almost all the nations of the World were involved.
An event of epic proportions happened. A starship of almost a kilometer long in length falled in the deserted Macross Island at the South Pacific area.
Its hull was destroyed, but the interiors were intact. The nations once in war, settle apart their differences and decided to establish an unified Earth government to work together to decipher the far advanced technology behind the mysterious ship.
A decade later, the alien craft was completly reconstructed and named as the Super Dimentional Fortress 1 (SDF-1). Also, the Humans developed fantastic vehicles capable of transforming into giant robots.
The Robotech Defense Force (RDF) was formed.
All of that in time when a race of giant warriors, known as the Zentraedi made their arrival with hostile intentions.
With all of those advancements, mankind still have to learn so much about the energy source that moves the robotechnology: the Protoculture.
Moreover, they have also to learm who are beyond the Zentraedi, the Robotech Masters.

The Second War (The Masters):

Fifteen years after the war with Zentraedi, the planet Earth was nearly destroyed and some cities, like the New Macross City was closed due radiation.
The SDF-1 and the SDF-2 were destroyed and the SDF-3 was built in orbit and the RDF departed to deep space to trace the Robotech Masters.
The survivors moved to different cities and the society became feudalistic and unstable.
The Army of the Southern Cross was formed to protect Earth from any kind of menace.
The Masters of the Robotechnology had arrived to the planet in a desperate search for the Protoculture.

The Third War (The New Generation):

As a result of the Second Robotech War, an abundance of the main source of the Protoculture, the Flower of Life happened on planet Earth. An alien race of parasites, the Invid receive a signal with a report of this.
The Army of the Southern Cross became weary after the war with the Robotech Masters. It made easier for the invaders to take control of the planet.
Ten years later, planet Earth is a colony of slaves who live only to crop and harvest Protoculture to satisfy the hunger of the Invids.
Meanwhile in deep space, the RDF, who are tracing the origin of the Robotech Masters, send a task group, the Robotech Expedicionary Force (REF) to take down the Invid.
Unfortunately, only one soldier survived the mission to infiltrate the Earth.
This survivor have found a group of young rebels to help him to acomplish his mission.

GWitch only had 24 episodes + 1 prologue. But then again there were so many loose plot threads in between and a lot of developments felt rushed it really needed to be as long as a regular Gundam. Also Suletta and Miorine really needed more time actually doing regular stuff together, and Elan 0 really needed a lot more time in general.
Macross Delta had 26 episodes + 2 movies that felt like 13 + 1. SDF Macross and Gundam 0079 have really lead me to believe ~40 is a good episode count for mecha.
#i love macross 7 but it felt longer than it needed to be#but i can’t believe gwitch was shorter than delta#that sounds so ridiculously underbaked
