Every "Nu Trek" (2017- ) Series Ranked from Worst to Best:
Very Short Treks (2023): There's really no words for just how terrible this series is. I mean, I know that it only barely counts because it's explicitly not canon and has a total combined run time of about 15 minutes, but *my god* is it bad! Only one of its episodes is remotely funny, and even that manages to feel like it's driven its main joke into the ground by the end of its 2-minute runtime. The only thing that I can say for it is that is that it gives me an easy, uncontroversial choice for worst Star Trek series, not only of the last 7 years, but of all time.
Picard (2020-2023): Listen; I know that this series is unpopular with the Tumblr Trek fandom, but it actually breaks my heart to have to put it so low on the list. It has, in my own opinion, the best dramatic acting of any Trek series and among the best directing, and almost every individual scene, in isolation, is compellingly watchable. More than that, it has fascinating worldbuilding choices, you can really *see* the passion of the writers for what they're creating (at least in the first and third seasons), and Agnes in particular is among my favourite characters in anything ever. It's got a lot of great moments, too! Picard and Seven bonding over shared Borg trauma; Soji uncovering the truth of her identity; Jurati hacking the Borg Queen's brain; Picard's final farewell to Q; Shaw's Wolf 359 monologue; Geordi's reunion with Data...I could go on. And yet, it just feels like so much *less* than the sum of its parts! Incredible ideas are introduced and then just shrugged off to pursue much more boring ones. Story arcs feel pointless if not actively offensive. Absolutely baffling writing choices are made throughout, with no indication as to why. And the nostalgia baiting , particularly in the final season, becomes so intense that it just chokes the plot to death. One comes away haunted by the feeling that this series should be so much better than it is.
Discovery (2017-2024): Really, this is two separate series: a twisty, grimdark, sci-fi war drama and a gentle queer coffeeshop AU about scientists who talk about their feelings. Both of them have their moments, but they each fall down in the same way: a focus on epic, high-stakes mystery box storytelling that undermines one's ability to really get invested in the characters, or even know who they are when they aren't off saving the universe. Without that, while I liked many of the characters and loved seeing them science the shit out of things using teamwork and the power of math, it's kind of difficult to get invested in this series one way or another. In spite of its absolutely gorgeous visuals, it comes off feeling weirdly...flat.
Short Treks (2018-2020): Not a lot to talk about here; just kind of an anthology series of short films adjacent to Discovery, Picard, and Strange New Worlds. Mostly they're varying shades of mediocre, but a few of them are as brilliant as any episode of Star Trek ever made, so the series gets to be relatively high on the list.
Strange New Worlds (2022- ): This is the first entry on this list that, in my opinion, belongs on the top shelf with some of the best of the older series. And it achieves it basically by adopting the same formula as the original series or the next generation--socially conscious planet-of-the-week adventures with enough wit, cleverness and joie-de-vivre to keep it interesting. I remember in 2017, there was plenty of discussion of how it's possible to update Star Trek's formula for prestige television; how funny that the solution turned out to be "don't change it at all, just give it modern special effects and actual character arcs." That said, the series is a bit *too* beholden to the original, with focus primarily on a bunch of characters who aren't allowed to grow or change too much because we already know how they'll turn out. It would be even better if it were about a new ship and a new crew full of nobodies who we can come to love. Which brings us to...
Lower Decks (2020-2024): Above, I said that Picard felt like it should have been so much better than it was. Lower Decks, frankly, should have been so much worse. How is an adult animated sitcom with Rick and Morty style animation and constant memberberries this freaking good!?! Every episode is a master class in efficient storytelling, with 22 minute runtimes often feeling like they contain as much story and character work as episodes twice as long. And the characters are incredible--like TOS and TNG, they feel almost archetypal, and even though you've never seen them before, they slide so seamlessly into the Star Trek universe that it's hard to believe that they weren't just *always* there; that there was ever a time when you could imagine the Star Trek universe without just intrinsically knowing that Tendi and Shaxs and Mariner were off somewhere in the background. It's greatest success though, the reason why it's comedy works when it really shouldn't, is that it's only *slightly* sillier than the serious series. What we end up with a fantastic series with an ethos that is pure Star Trek, and in fact, if I had written this list a month ago, it would certainly be in the #1 spot. However...
Prodigy (2021-2024?): The first season of Prodigy is...charming. It's got some fun characters, some spectacular visuals, some interesting premises. And if the plots tend to be a little too simplistic to be engaging to an adult, hey, it's a kids' show. It's good. Solid. Above average. And if I had only the first season to go on, it would probably be in third position on this list. But then, a few weeks ago, it went ahead and dropped the best season of Star Trek in a quarter-century, and I really...I just cannot recommend this series highly enough. The sheer, ambitious scope of the narrative; the arcs it puts its character through; the cleverness of the writing; the fricking GORGEOUSNESS of it! And it does all this while redeeming deeply unpopular characters and plot points from other series, in a way that never feels forced or pandering. Not only is it the best Star Trek series of the 21st century, it's one of the best children's animated series since AtLA. Go. Go! Watch it! Watch it now!

Richonne in Retrospect - The 💋 List
(every Richonne kiss ranked)
#4: The First Kisses (6.10)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The iconic, game-changing, OG Richonne kiss scene. 🤩 This is where Richonne's physical intimacy really took flight and man does it never get old seeing Rick and Michonne's very first kisses. Still as fire today as it was all those years ago, so of course it had to secure a spot in the Top 5. ❤️‍🔥 Reflecting on this scene in retrospect, knowing how many golden kisses would be in store for the remainder of Richonne's journey - including a miniseries with 100+ kisses - it makes me all the more appreciative of this season 6 scene that birthed Richonne's official romance and launched the many kisses to come 👏🏽...
It's this scene that proved that the longstanding chemistry between these characters pre-canon would elevate perfectly as Rick and Michonne finally acted on all their love and desire and became an official couple. I love the way their comfortable conversation and the mints lead to a handhold, which leads to them slowly looking into each other's eyes, which leads to their first soft and slow kiss, which then leads to the two going all in and making out in pure bliss. Slick Rick managed to get on top of Michonne with a quickness on that couch, and I love how Michonne was all the way here for it.
The way they can't help but smile throughout all these passionate kisses just lifts my spirit. This whole scene means so much to me and it warms my heart that this moment means so much to the characters too. They've found the one they were meant to love and the one their soul's most needed. And to see that bring them so much joy in this moment is great.
Tumblr media
I often note how Rick and Michonne have had partners before but never like this. They kiss like they know this is different. Like they now know what true soulmate love should be. And again, I love the enthusiasm they both express over finally being together in this way. I'll never get over the fact that this kiss wasn't rehearsed. I love that. ☺️ Especially because Richonne's love already was so organic and then this kiss being a true first for the characters and actors makes it so compellingly organic as well.
All that sexual tension between Rick and Michonne had been brewing since the early prison days and the time had finally come to act on what their eyes had so often looked like they longed to do. These are 100% the kisses of two people who were already deeply in love. This next step in their relationship was just so right and you can tell every part of them knows this is right too. It feels like in this moment they're not just acknowledging they're in love and that they've been desiring each other for the longest - they're also acknowledging that this is who they want to spend the rest of their life with. This is it. I love that they seem to know that so quickly and that they never look back.
Tumblr media
And considering my Richonne obsession began about here, this scene had quite the impact on my life as Rick and Michonne Grimes became and remain my ultimate definition of what true love should be. This is one of TWD's most joyous moments and it means everything to see Rick and Michonne experience their very first hot and heartfelt kisses and get such a rewarding win in embracing a love supreme with each other. ♥️

Lockwood & Co. released ten years ago when I was 12 years old and I honestly still have no idea how I didn’t find these books until this year.
I’m so glad I did find them at the time I did though, because before, I hadn’t written a word for myself since I was 15, and the only art I would do was for school.
I had been praying for something to spark up my creativity and then a few days later I see this show chilling in the top 10 at Netflix, that I immediately felt compelled to watch, just from the little sneak peek of George opening the door for Lucy.
Next thing you know, I’m neck-deep in the campaign to save it, and have written THREE fanfics about it??? Plus I made a ton of cool friends from this, who not only share my love for these characters but also my love for art and writing??
I’ve written for myself more than I have probably my entire life, and I’m having fun making art again.
I love this little community, and how passionate everyone is. Thank you, LockNation, for being so supportive 💚
And my goodness, thank you Jonathan Stroud for making a story so compellingly well-written, with characters that feel real. I literally have not stopped thinking about them since I found the show in February.

I'm reminded of watching Detective Pikachu for the first time, and that being the first movie in a long time I immediately rewatched after seeing it once because it was so damn good. Watching that movie, all I could think was that it was clearly, blatantly created by people who absolutely loved the Pokemon series. It was a compellingly crafted world that told the story of a protagonist atypical to the Pokemon series, but still wonderful to watch because every single aspect of the film committed to the bit. It WAS a Pokemon world, where humans lived alongside Pokemon and regularly interacted with them, and that was reinforced with every single line, stage direction, expression, and interaction.
One of the reasons I was leery about the Sonic movie (which I have admittedly not actually seen) was explained well by Outside Xbox, where they talked about Detective Pikachu not being a movie where Pikachu ended up in the Real World and needed help getting home. This isn't necessarily a bad storyline, but it's a very common one that's regularly committed in bad faith, so it's understandable to be leery of. It's a cheap, easy way out of creating an entire fictional world for the cast to interact with for the entire film.
Anyhow, given how many people are passionate about Minecraft, there's really no excuse for this shit. From what y'all are saying, this sounds like it's a cheap way to make a Minecraft™ Movie™ so everyone gets their requested Minecraft™ Movie™ Experience™ and now there's a reason to produce Minecraft™ Movie™ Merchandise™. What a waste of a fantastic opportunity.

i reposted this take earlier but i've been sitting on that teaser trailer for the minecraft movie for a bit and (unlike Sonic) i don't actually think the art direction or isekai element is the problem

Letters of a Portuguese Nun: Uncovering the Mystery Behind a 17th Century Forbidden Love (Book Review)
Rating:⭐⭐ (2 Stars)
Tumblr media
Information
Author: Myriam Cyr
Genre: Nonfiction-Historical
Number of Pages: 256
Format: Hardcover
Series: N/A
Summary
In 1669, a Parisian bookseller released a small volume titled Portuguese Letters, revealing a passionate affair between a young Portuguese nun and a French officer that had taken place a few years earlier during a time of war in Portugal. The book contained the nun's fervent letters, written after the officer was forced to return to France. These letters caused a sensation in Paris, expressing love with such raw emotion, clarity, and intensity that they resonated deeply within the refined circles of polite society. Adding to their allure was the mystery of the author’s identity, as many believed the letters were the fictional creation of a French aristocrat. Now, Myriam Cyr compellingly argues that the nun, Mariana Alcoforado, truly penned the letters, and her tale stands as one of the most poignant in the history of forbidden love.
Thoughts
This book offers a fascinating window into Portugal’s history, especially during a tumultuous period marked by war and cultural shifts. One of the aspects I loved most was how it vividly brought to life the harsh realities of convent life. The strictness of the convents, where young women were sent to spend their lives in religious isolation, was portrayed in such a way that I couldn’t help but notice the hypocrisy in their words and practices. The rigid control over women’s lives and the moral contradictions embedded in their existence felt palpable throughout the book. It was an eye-opening experience to learn how deeply entrenched these institutions were in society and how they shaped women’s choices—or lack thereof.
Another striking detail was the extreme lengths to which boys would go to avoid being drafted into war, with some even blinding themselves to escape military service. This revelation was both shocking and heartbreaking, adding to the atmosphere of desperation and confinement that permeated the story. The historical context was rich and informative, allowing readers to understand the social pressures and the extremes people faced during that time.
What resonated most with me on a personal level was that many of the key figures in the story were around my age or even younger. Imagining myself in their shoes—being sold off into marriage or forced to follow a spiritual path, essentially losing control over my own future—made me deeply empathize with these women. The emotional and physical sacrifices they had to endure are difficult to fathom in today’s world, but the book does a remarkable job of helping the reader feel connected to their plight. This sympathy was heightened by the deeply emotional letters of Mariana Alcoforado, the nun at the heart of the story. Her letters are filled with such raw passion and vulnerability that it’s impossible not to feel her heartache as she pours out her love for the French officer who abandons her. The emotional intensity of these letters is one of the book’s greatest strengths, and they allow the reader to engage deeply with Mariana’s pain, longing, and ultimate sense of loss.
Despite these strengths, there were a few aspects of the book that detracted from my overall enjoyment. For one, the lengthy descriptions of the clothing and fashion of the era seemed unnecessary to the central narrative. While these details may have added some historical texture, they felt irrelevant to the love story between Mariana and the officer. I found myself skimming over these sections, eager to get back to the emotional core of the letters. In a story so rich with emotional tension, these descriptions felt like distractions rather than enhancements to the plot.
Another issue I had was with the dense background information provided to contextualize the letters. While understanding the historical and cultural backdrop is essential to fully grasp the depth of Mariana’s love and suffering, the author’s detailed approach made the book a much heavier read than I anticipated. It sometimes felt as though the actual story of the forbidden love between Mariana and the officer was buried beneath pages of historical context, which slowed the pacing considerably. The author takes quite a long time to begin the heart of the story, and I found myself growing impatient, wanting to delve into the romance and the emotional turmoil rather than wade through the layers of historical exposition.
In conclusion, the book is a moving and thought-provoking book that offers a poignant glimpse into a tragic love story and the oppressive world in which it took place. The historical context enriches the narrative, giving readers a deeper understanding of the rigid societal structures of the time, but at times, it overshadows the emotional intensity of the main plot. The emotional depth of Mariana’s letters and the sheer vulnerability she expresses are the heart of the book, making it a memorable read, despite its occasional missteps in pacing and focus. If you’re a reader who enjoys both history and romance, this book offers a compelling blend of both, though you may need patience as the author weaves through layers of historical detail before diving into the core of Mariana’s tragic love affair.

Assignment 2 (Research + Reflection)
BEHIND THE SCENES
Madison Wolfgramm ID: 21144427
“The rush of performing on stage, being at back-to-back sell-out shows, traveling between destinations at the crack of dawn or late in the night, and seeing how beautiful our world is. I got a taste of what it feels like to be a real dancer and l am so grateful to have had that experience.”
Behind the Scenes is a photobook featuring images that reflect the reality of a professional dancer's life, through moments on tour. This book aims to highlight the raw reality of life on tour, as few people don't get to see or understand the raw aspects of the dancer's journey. The images capture the exhaustion, exhilaration, and camaraderie of being on the road. Through these candid photographs, viewers can gain a deeper appreciation for the dedication and hard work that goes into a dancer's career. This photo book also provides a glimpse into the behind-the-scenes moments that showcase the passion and determination of dancers, beyond just their performances on stage. It offers a unique perspective on the sacrifices and joys that make up the daily life of a professional dancer.
The formative photobook has undergone a significant transformation due to a lack of a suitable theme and style. After brainstorming, I explored new artist models and photography styles to enhance the story. This led to a more cohesive and engaging final product that effectively conveyed the intended message and emotions. The exploration of different artistic approaches ultimately helped to elevate the overall impact of the photobook. By incorporating diverse perspectives and techniques, the photobook captured the essence of the story uniquely and compellingly. The evolution of the project highlighted the importance of experimentation and creativity in creating a truly impactful visual narrative. During the mid-semester break, I participated in a 14-day photo challenge, which made the selection process easier and helped me understand what worked well regarding photobook layout and additional captions. I also took the opportunity to explore different editing techniques and experiment with new styles to enhance the overall aesthetic of my photos. This experience not only improved my photography skills but also gave me a better appreciation for storytelling through visuals.
The photobook serves as a visual diary of my experiences, allowing me to reminisce on the moments captured. It also provides a unique perspective for others to see the world through my eyes. Most of the images in my photobook were taken on my phone due to the convenience and accessibility it provides in capturing spontaneous moments which added a personal touch to the images and photobook. The candid nature of the photos reflects my genuine emotions and reactions in each moment, creating a more authentic representation of my experiences. Additionally, the use of phone photography allowed me to quickly document fleeting moments that may have otherwise been missed with a traditional camera, especially on a busy schedule on tour.
Overall, the photobook serves as a visual diary of my travels and experiences, showcasing the raw and unfiltered moments that make up my life as a dancer. It offers a unique glimpse into my perspective and allows others to connect with the emotions and memories captured in each image. The photo book also highlights the bond and camaraderie shared with my fellow dancers, illustrating the sense of community and support that accompanies our passion for dance. Each page tells a story, inviting viewers to share in the joy, challenges, and triumphs that define my journey as a performer. Through the carefully curated selection of photos, viewers can witness the dedication and determination that drives me to pursue my dreams in the world of dance. The photo book is a reflection of my growth and evolution as an artist, showcasing the transformative power of movement and self-expression.

It's Beautiful Barbados! And in a sentence, we're Bajans!
By Stanley Collymore
Words do truly become absolutely redundant when you instinctively and genuinely feel exceptionally passionate thoroughly constructively empathetic and unquestionably also emotionally, about something that's been highly constructive, as well as effectively evolutionary throughout one's entire life span; and basically that's quite undeniably the state of affairs situation quite undoubtedly when it significantly, and distinctly unquestionably essentially comes to my discernibly, simply precious, ancestral homeland, of Barbados!
A country where inspirationally the finest things in my life, and from the onset of my infancy, were themselves crucially and plainly instinctively born, lovingly nurtured and evidently, progressively transformed rather effectively into a very viably rich, discernibly cultured; a delightfully enduring, and likewise a simply, rather unquestionably and distinctively essentially pleasurable constructive maturity. So obviously, for which I'm everlastingly grateful!
So as God Almighty in his infinite wisdom continues to fulsomely bless you, my simply beloved Barbados; similarly my fellow Bajans at home on our truly tropical, paradisiacal island and within their global Diaspora; you Barbados for effectively having the outstanding perspicacity and similarly also the perpetual tenacity to not only weather but basically put to good use the numerous tribulations, discernibly and iniquitously latched on, obviously to the several other adversities which we Bajans, distinctively over the past centuries, have obviously and simply clearly been onerously, subjected to; but have nevertheless subsequently, obviously courageously, indomitably and very proudly, evidently emerged as the constructively, quite mentally liberated nation we now fittingly are.
Thoroughly believing in our own capabilities, our progressively minded country that's aptly enduringly committed to the precepts of genuine democracy, undoubtedly equality of opportunity, and equally its attendant fundamental tenet of indisputably full, obviously equally legally legislated human rights, to naturally everybody regardless of their nationality who distinctively and unquestionably, literally falls within the full, lawful scope aptly of Barbados' obviously territorial borders and its legal jurisdiction. This compellingly so, regardless of the distinctive circumstances undoubtedly pertaining to these people's individual and naturally authentically lawfully confirmed place of birth; simply the gender that Nature essentially ascribed to them prior and confirmatorily subsequent to their actual birth, and any other naturally relevant factors that undeniably, fittingly identified who they distinctively were; and understandably done to crucially ensure that actually there's evidently full equality of opportunity for everyone within Barbados's praiseworthily, very transparent, and also impartial commendable, judicial system.
(C) Stanley V. Collymore 16 November 2023.
Author's Remarks: Pride and Industry is our national motto and the commendable qualities that we Bajans earnestly and industriously strive for and instinctively endeavour to implement in our respective lives.
And on the upcoming 57th anniversary of our national independence and likewise the second one of our beloved Barbados voluntarily ceasing to be a realm aligned to the British monarchy for 398 years and becoming a Republic, I join wholeheartedly in our many achievements and the quite worthy celebration of these, as I also echo the sentiments of all Bajans in praise worthily saying: "God forever Bless our Barbados, its current and future citizens, and similarly the souls of our departed ones, who constructively made our country what it is today!"

By sharing resources, you can co-create a fitness hub that offers a diverse range of services, attracting a broader audience while dividing costs.
Location, Creatively: Prime locations can be expensive, but don’t let that deter you. Think outside the box and explore unconventional spaces that can be transformed into fitness havens. Repurposing warehouses, unused commercial spaces, or even transforming outdoor areas can provide a unique and cost-effective ambiance for your gym.
Crowdfunding Your Vision: Engage your community in your gym’s journey by launching a crowdfunding campaign. Present your vision compellingly and offer unique rewards to backers. This not only raises funds but also builds a loyal customer base before you even open your doors.
Bootstrapping Equipment Solutions: Investing in high-end gym equipment can quickly eat up your budget. Start with the basics and gradually expand your equipment collection as your gym gains traction. Consider buying refurbished or second-hand equipment, negotiating deals with suppliers, or even bartering services to acquire what you need.
Maximize Social Media Marketing: Harness the power of social media to create a buzz around your gym. Engage with potential customers through captivating content showcasing your gym’s unique selling points. Leverage platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok to provide free workouts, fitness tips, and challenges to build a dedicated online community.
Host Pop-Up Classes: Before committing to a permanent space, host pop-up fitness classes in parks, community centers, or rented spaces. This not only generates interest but also provides a taste of your gym’s offerings. Use these events to collect feedback and refine your approach.
Build a Personal Brand: Position yourself as a fitness expert within your community. Offer personal training sessions, online coaching, or workshops to establish credibility and generate income. As your reputation grows, so will interest in your gym.
Lean on Technology: Harness technology to offer virtual fitness experiences. Host live online classes, create digital training programs, and engage your audience through virtual challenges. The beauty of technology is its scalability and relatively low cost.
Community Engagement: Forge strong connections with local businesses, schools, and organizations. Collaborate on events, workshops, or wellness programs. This not only creates a sense of community but also spreads the word about your gym.
Sweat Equity: Lastly, be prepared to invest your time and effort. Sweat equity can be just as valuable as financial investment. Roll up your sleeves, put in the hard work, and lead by example to create a gym that reflects your passion and commitment.
In conclusion, opening a gym business without a substantial initial investment is not only feasible but can also lead to unique and innovative solutions that set you apart in a competitive market. By embracing partnerships, utilizing social media, and thinking creatively about location and equipment, you can launch your gym with minimal capital and achieve remarkable success. Remember, it’s not about the money you start with; it’s about the dedication and ingenuity you bring to the table.

Däthedr  can't  help  but  smile  a  little,  his  lips  upon  her  throat  and  fingers  gently  thrusting  into  her  sensitive  body,  her  cunt  fluttering  around  the  welcomed  intrusion.  His  isn't  sure  how  experienced  the  lovely  Westerosi  woman  is  with  intimacy,  but  her  body  knows  enough  to  rise  to  meet  his  fingers  and  he  matches  the  steady  pace,  hushing  Myrcella  softly  with  a  hand  over  her  mouth.  In  the  light  silk  pants  he  wears  there  is  no  hiding  the  swell  of  his  cock,  he  can  feel  the  warmth  of  her  thigh  through  the  fabric  and  flexes  his  hips  so  she  can  feel  the  evidence  of  his  desire  for  her.  When  peachy-pink  lips  wrap  around  his  fingers,  quietening  herself  and  running  her  tongue  over  them  sinfully,  he  curls  his  fingers  inside  her  and  strokes  the  sensitive,  secret  place  inside  her  ━━━  the  art  of  pleasure  is  one  the  Summer  Islanders  know  well,  and  Myrcella  looks  a  picture  of  eroticism  like  this.
“No,  sweet  princess  this  is  not  how  we  court,”  he  stares  into  her  bright,  colourful  eyes  with  his  own  grey  ones,  gently  thrusting  his  fingers  into  her  mouth  and  noting  how  happy  she  looks  with  her  mouth  occupied,  "this  is  how  we  worship  our  Gods."  He  had  spent  years  in  a  Temple  of  Love,  devoted  to  the  worship  of  love  and  pleasure  and  their  deities;  Däthedr  is  one  of  the  more  holy  leaders  of  Sweet  Lotus  Vale  in  several  generations.  "The  act  of  lovemaking  is  considered  holy.  Giving  pleasure,"  his  fingers  begin  to  slide  quicker  and  in  and  out  of  her  cunt,  her  wetness  almost  audible  particularly  when  he  grinds  his  palm  against  her  clit,  "and  receiving  pleasure,"  his  cock  throbs  against  her  thigh  as  he  presses  it  against  the  welcoming  softness  of  her  skin,  "━━  consider  this  another  lesson  in  my  people's  ways."
A  pleased,  satisfied  smile  crosses  his  features  as  her  tongue  runs  over  his  fingers  and  he  feels  her  grow  wetter  as  a  result.  Däthedr  gently  slips  his  fingers  from  her  mouth,  her  plump  lips  wrapped  around  the  digits  in  a  way  that  makes  his  chest  tighten  with  tension  and  desire.  Like  this,  flushed  and  desirous,  Myrcella  is  a  different  kind  of  beauty,  one  that  could  start  and  end  wars.  Däthedr  claims  her  lips  in  a  passionate,  thorough  kiss  that  steals  her  breath,  his  fingers  skillfully  thrusting  between  her  thighs.  "Tell  me . . .  what  do you  want,  what  do  you  enjoy?"  he  asks,  compellingly,  slowing  his  pace  and  instead  focusing  gently  but  intently  on  her  clit,  pressing  her  legs  open  with  his  own  as  she  reacts  to  the  sensation  and  processes  his  question.

Court   was   a   dangerous   thing.   Upon   her   return   from   Dorne,   she   had   felt   lonely.   Trystane   had   joined   her   but   her   brother,   now   king   and   perhaps   influenced   by   her   mother,   send   him   away.   She   is   not   sure   what   her   plans   are   but   regardless,   the   Princess   is   now   alone   in   a   foreign   land,   more   foreign   than   Dorne,   where   she   spend   years   of   her   life.   She   finds   a   kindred   soul   in   Däthedr   Xo   Joraq,   a   Prince   of   the   Sweet   Lotus   Vale   and   she   spends   days   learning   about   the   Summer   Isles.   They   sound   like   Dorne,   although   chaotic   and   she   in   turn,   teaches   him   about   what   she   learned   in   the   foreign   land.   Something   else   brews   when   he   spends   more   time   in   her   chambers   than   he   should.   Her   cousin   Rosamund   is   loyal   to   her   and   would   say   nothing   and   if   she   did,   she   would   say   they   talked   all   night.
Except   if   one   were   to   listen   close,   they   would   hear   the   muffled   sound   of   a   moan,   stiffled   by   his   hand   on   her   mouth. It   had   started   with   gentle   kisses   and   touches,   tonight   was   different   though.   Her   skirts   had   been   shifted   away   as   his   hand   had   sought   inside   them   for   her.   She   knew   what   he   wanted,   from   Arianne's   whispers   of   men   and   women   and   pleasure.   When   he   touches   her,   her   body   feels   so   limp   and   delighted,   pressed   to   her   bed   with   a   gentle   creak   and   how   he   opens   her   legs   with   his   own   as   fingers   push   inside   her   walls   and   she   squirms,   feeling   him   how   he   made   her   feel.   "Gods.   We   shouldn't-"   but   she   cannot   speak   any   longer   when   another   finger   joins   in   and   she   feels   herself   grow   wet.
The   hardness   of   his   cock   by   the   side   of   her   leg   where   she   feels   him,   and   as   he   moves   his   arm   with   her   hips   grinding   against   him,   one   of   his   hands   muffles   her   moans,   unsure   how   to   lower   her   own   volume,   while   her   hands   come   to   his   chest,   holding   on   to   his   hips   and   encourage   him   to   grind   against   her,   wanting   to   feel   his   cock   grow   beside   her.   She   does   not   bite   into   his   hand,   but   instinct   causes   her   to   move   her   mouth   and   press   his   fingers   inside   her   mouth   and   lick   them,   imagine   them   its   the   ones   inside   her   at   that   moment.   "Is   this   how   you   do   courting   in   Sweet   Lotus?"

(Air) Avatar Zuko and (Acolyte) Mai. Concerning theater, entertainment, and 5-6 year old Tom-Tom.
Continued from: [Link], [Link], [Link], [Link], [Link], [Link], [Link], [Link], [Link], [Link], [Link], [Link], and [Link].
1. Though Gyatso did his best to give Zuko lots of cultural experiences as they bounced around the world between stays at the Air Temples, Zuko as a ball of anxious energy, and Gyatso decided to just wait on the whole longform performance art thing. So while Zuko had watched the occasional shadow play or puppet show, or sketch, he hadn't really watched a play until "The Boy in the Iceberg". Not only was the play deeply insulting, it wasn't well acted or compellingly written, so it didn't exactly leave him wanting more. Even with Prince Aang keeping a snarky commentary, and insisting that the Ember Island Players are the bottom of the barrel, Zuko just did not come away with a positive opinion on theater.
2. Mai on the other hand, holds deep in her black shrivelled heart, a passionate love for theater. For the first year or so, Avatar Zuko just sees this as one of her odd little ways, a personal idiosyncrasy. But he has no interest in joining her. Usually she's fine with this. She leaves Tom Tom with him and makes an evening of it. But then one day he makes a clueless and not very nice comment, so Mai's like, that's it, you're coming along, and I'm going to pick a good play, with like, actual good acting, come on. She picks a nice, classic, popular play about the king of the monkeys, and braces herself for Zuko to hate it.
3. He doesn't. He gets so into it. So very into it. In that moment, in a flash of starlight and magic, a theater nerd is born.
4. At this point, they still haven't admitted they're dating, but not even they are fooled anymore.
5. When Mai and Tom-Tom first came to Zuko's attempt at a temple, Tom-Tom was in that awkward middle stage between toddler and child. But within a few years, he's firmly a child, and for either a Fire Nation child, or an Air Nomad, would begin formal education, learning to read. And Zuko, who is frantically running around trying to recreate his culture from scratch, and oh that's right, part of that culture is setting up a school, for the one and only kid they've got at the temple, and how do you teach somebody how to read? He barely remembers learning to read. He definitely doesn't remember what his teacher was doing! And one of his handful of Air Acolytes, an old man with five grown children, just writes his kids' old teachers.

I love what other people love, which ought to make me a fair-weather fan and bandwagoner, except I'm just as like to hop on a bandwagon of one as one thousand. It's not the volume that entices me to chase the unfamiliar, as new love often first blooms from the concentrated strength of one passionate individual whose own love is so large it colors their delivery, their mannerisms, falling into a series of gestures when language fails to fit the love inside it.
DOOM is famous and beloved, and famous for being beloved, so it's not surprising I got suckered. The original game is a year older than me, but I never took to my dad's early FPSes which are more or less indistinguishable from the Win95 maze screensaver in my memory. Once - and only once - I attempted DOOM Eternal and decided that it would be as good a game as everyone said if I could get good at it, which I never would. Any nostalgia I have for this title is secondhand, borrowed.
Watching people describe the particulars of a pivotal and historic game franchise is just as good, if not better: the lifetime players, the code-wranglers who dissect the meat from its bones, the modders who frankenstein its components into something new and sometimes more. A curious strain of something not solely nostalgic, often calling out why certain features or mechanics were products of their time. Although a person may measure remakes or remixes against the feeling those features made odd and offputting by time gave them, it's usually threaded with an appreciation for what these games begat, the lineage within and outside of its franchise that permeates the games of today. This love presents a compellingly beautiful tableau of history stretching out like a long road across a vast landscape, surveying all the landmarks between your position in space and time and the turning point, and then looking still further at the old path that lead to the first turn and all the potential promise of the road ahead of you, its landmarks yet unbuilt along unseen future turns. As described, the history of this road is a series of impressive decisions and miraculous happenstance that enrich your appreciation of this present moment, one you can traverse by playing those games now even if they don't build them like they used to anymore.
By proxy, I have come to love System Shock, too; a comparatively less mainstream title significant to DOOM for its fundamental differences in design philosophy that shaped its own subsequent genre of immersive sims, though it, like DOOM, refined and enhanced the foundations laid by prior games. I have at least beaten Dishonored, whose lineage I too can now trace back to System Shock, but my love of that game is personal, particular, individuated, and unaltered by this new knowledge. It is love of my playthroughs of the game and all the challenges and triumphs and comedically absurd failures I, personally, experienced, the product of my interactions with the game and its interactions with me.
Secondhand love is exemplified by individuals but isn't a single voice; it is love, spectated in aggregate, an amalgamation of all the harmonies and dissonances of so many voices all pontificating or shouting or insulting one another. The dissonances and even vicious disagreements only heighten the feeling: among the rubble of the most aggressive discourses between the Souls games' 'get gud' crowd and those who disdain them, you can find almost poetical, lavishly sincere overtures to what the games have come to mean to people on either side, pure sweetness among the ashes.
It is the exact feeling of some impossibly generic movie scene where a love interest discovers the mean bad boy has a soft spot for baby animals and falls head over heels, too archetypal to be real. It feels absurd and a little narratively cheap, but I fall doe-eyed for it over and over. Even beyond the fishhook feeling of sharp surprise that softens, the discovery that these are fights people think are worth having not solely out of anger but out of love of something colors all my perceptions after. The assholes remain irritating, the mild revulsion at people who have perspectives and philosophies of games and the world that are deeply incompatible with my own persist.
Sometimes love grows so large that it breaks free, the jagged edges of the hole it punches in language or polite discourse letting in a sunbeam through a broken window throwing its object and all its dirty, rough, ugly imperfections into sharp relief. The thing is suddenly illuminated so perfectly it is obviously unlike any other thing on earth even as the wider world floods in through the hole love left, seeking connection - and sometimes, peering in through dusty windows or passing by an ancient landmark on some unrelated journey, secondhand love finds me.

(AHS: RED TIDE) HARRY GARDNER X FRIEND!READER
Tumblr media
summary: dealing with harry being very passionate about his work 24/7
a/n: i am once again writing trash for this man in the early hours of the morning. i would absolutely be his friend, i love this disaster writer with my whole heart.
sure you may dabble in writing from time to time and have your own creations in the works, but you’re no where near as consumed by craft as your best friend, harry gardner is.
you have a small place in provincetown all to yourself. harry & doris had wanted you move in with them, they’d insisted on it umpteenth times seeing as they consider you to be a part of their family due to having been harry’s closest friend for as long as you can remember.
however, after thinking it through & remembering all the evenings harry would crash on your couch, begging you to let him stay over & go along with his lie that his car had broken down because he just couldn’t take alma’s incessant practising some nights, you had politely declined.
the locals are compellingly odd and the town is whilst a little bleak, hauntingly beautiful. it’s a welcomed change and you find yourself quite liking your new home and are happy to only be a few minutes away from your friend.
the first few days are nothing short of interesting.
you spend your days unpacking and helping harry & doris unpack, who is grateful for your help, seeing as harry pretty much unpacked his laptop and that was it.
the man returning to what he knows best: writing. fighting through writers block as if it were a noble war.
between yourself and doris, you manage to get him to move sometimes.
“hey, doris needs a hand in the kitchen, i could proofread what you have so far if you want?” you would offer.
“this is the end y/n. i’m getting nowhere, it’s the start of the decline!” harry had cried once.
“don’t be such a drama king.” you’d squeeze his shoulder, before giving him a hug.
“you’ll get there in the end.”
he returned your hug before sadly shaking his head.
“i doubt it.”
“you will! besides…” you had peered at the paragraph on display.
“it doesn’t look awful.”
harry groaned and got to his feet, head hung low as he wandered away.
“it’s the beginning of the end!”
“you’ve made a start.” you’d point out.
“but it’s nothing good. believe me, you’d be the first to know if it was.”
in hindsight, you probably should’ve taken him at his word.
during the midnight hours, a certain visitor made his way through your bedroom window whilst you slept.
“psst.”
“y/n!” a hand shaking your shoulder immediately rips you from the comforting embrace of sleep, a bright light burning your eyes the second you open them.
screaming, you back away from the home invader crouched beside you with a laptop?
rubbing your sore eyes, it becomes pretty clear to you that the intruder is harry.
he’s beaming, he looks so proud of himself with his eyes wide and wild expression etched upon his face.
“y/n, stop screaming. i did it!”
“WHAT THE FUCK, HARRY?!”
“hey, hey, don’t yell at me.” Your friend replies, too wired to notice the compete absurdity of his actions.
“did you climb through my window?” Your tired eyes widen.
“yes. look, I need you to read this…”
“you have a key, harry!”
“y/n, i really need a second pair of eyes here, this is good. this is so fucking good.” he explains.
“it’s half four in the morning!” you practically growl.
“i know, i know, but you have to read this. i need you to read this. i can’t believe it.” he’s still smiling like an actual madman & you are concerned about your friend.
“i’m happy for you, i am & i can’t wait to read it, but…”
“here! it’s back to page one!” he pushes the laptop onto your lap, sitting beside you, practically vibrating.
“harry, did you take something?” you nudge him, more worried than annoyed.
“long story, probably longer than this.” he waves his hand in front of his laptop.
“i’m calling doris…”
“no! no, she can read it tomorrow, let her sleep.” harry retorts.
“i want to sleep, harry.” you grumble, but with how he’s practically bouncing beside you, you give in.
your friend has always been a hard person to say no to & you’ve known for a long time that you’ll do anything for him, like he’ll do anything for you.
you’d walk through hell for each other.
“solid opening.” you remark after skimming over the first paragraph & harry is ecstatic, putting his arm around you to pull you in closer.
settling himself down, he rests his head against your shoulder like he’d always do when you were growing up with him as you read the rest.
“it’s amazing.” you rub his arm when you’re halfway through.
“incredible actually, what the hell did you take & where can i get some?” you joke.
well, you had been joking. harry was too wrapped up in his post-writing equilibrium to notice.
“i’ll show you. i knew you’d like it. told you you’d be the first to know.”
shaking you head, you continue to read through harry’s creation.
“never doubted you, harry.”
