headcanon . For Faramir, the love of his father is not an unproven hope – he had known it once. That is the bitterest part.

He remembers small, impossible things, such as the warm clasp of his father’s hand, quiet afternoons bent over maps as Denethor named the old kingdoms and permitted Faramir to ask endless questions. He remembers laughter, rare but sincere, and a moment – just one – when Denethor had smoothed his copper curls and said he was proud. These memories are not imagined, they were real, and that is what makes the loss unbearable.

In manhood, Faramir cannot call that warmth back. It had gone from Denethor’s eyes, replaced by cold judgement and weary comparison. He might have endured indifference with more ease had he never known kindness, but he had been loved once.

It is both blessing and curse. He is grateful to know what his father’s love had been. That it was once there, that it had lived in a time and place no shadow could fully corrupt. Yet he also grieves, not for what never was, but because a memory of the sun cannot warm him.

I have.. so many thoughts about capa/li. that he feels so safe in li's arms, enough to fall asleep.. the trust needed to be so close to someone. i feel like theres something there capa craves, he needs - the consistency, an unwavering, steady beat. li's heart is one of the most beautiful sounds in the world to capa. Im not sure if li knows/understands the deep complexities of why capa enjoys resting on his chest, but he knows he enjoys it. It makes him feel safe.... gah [explodes]
