I've discovered something exciting about the way my magic functions! For context, my current belief system incorporates both animism and microcosmic thinking. Sort of like this : "everything has a spirit, and even though spirits are projections of my unconscious mind, that's okay because I am the universe staring at it's reflection and choosing to be whole."
So every tool of mine has an entity attached, usually molded and awakened by me- similar to the creation of a thoughtform. And in order to benefit from their aid, I feed them. What hit me today, and inspired this post, was the method by which I feed each of them. The enchanted cup that drives away headaches, sour stomachs, anxiety, etc, has a tiny cat-spirit that drinks the cream I put in the tea; her reward for hunting down these ailments is to eat them like the vermin they are. The shrine to the entity of Knowledge I work with is laden with to-be-read books, which I read out of as part of its sacrifices- and its benefits include helping me to learn and more easily comprehend what I read.
The amulet that houses a glamour-weaving demonic eye is fed by compliments given while wearing it.
In other words, what charges the magic is directly benefitted by the magic itself- so doing a better job means getting more out of the deal, for both me and the tool-spirits in question. My process is basically creating intentionally self-fulfilling prophecies and waiting. This is the kind of tech thing that I think @windvexer and @creature-wizard would go crazy for, so adding mentions just in case.

Graveyard etiquette from a cranky traditional witch:
-Leave shit at the gate (coins, cigarettes, eggs, flowers)
-If alone go in silence, if with others speak in a hushed tone
-Wear a hat or head covering to prevent possession or bringing home unwanted spirits.
-Bring bells and/or rattles to wake the dead if desired
-Smoking in the graveyard or carrying a flame is an easy way to get the attention of the dead at night.
-Bring a knife or object made of iron should things get hairy (always bring a knife). Canes are also excellent tools for working with the dead
-have a way of gathering occult materia without being noticed by people or spirits (invisibility charms work best)
-If you're bringing spirits home with you (intentionally), don't turn around until you're across the threshold of your home
-Upon leaving the cemetery, say a prayer for the dead and wild things that inhabitant there
-When home, spread white powder (flower, salt, ect...) at the door to keep unwanted spirits out. A colander over a key hole works too.

Understanding The Left-Hand Path

The Left-Hand Path (LHP) in witchcraft and the broader occult tradition refers to a set of spiritual practices, philosophies, and paths that emphasize personal empowerment, self-deification, and the pursuit of individual freedom. The Left-Hand Path is often contrasted with the Right-Hand Path (RHP), which typically focuses on spiritual alignment with external moral or divine laws. Here are some key aspects of the Left-Hand Path in witchcraft:
• Self-empowerment: LHP practitioners typically focus on achieving personal power and mastery, often rejecting traditional religious or societal constraints. This includes embracing one's own desires, will, and inner strength.
• Individualism and Autonomy: The LHP emphasizes personal autonomy, with practitioners believing that they are their own authority and can shape their fate through willpower and self-determination.
• Rejection of Traditional Morality: LHP practitioners may reject conventional moral standards, particularly those imposed by mainstream religions like Christianity. They believe in creating their own ethical framework based on personal growth and enlightenment rather than obedience to external laws.
• Occult Knowledge and Rituals: The Left-Hand Path often involves the use of occult rituals, symbols, and magick to tap into unseen forces or realms. These practices might include working with deities or spirits that are considered "dark" or "unconventional" within mainstream religious contexts.
• Deification and Transcendence: A central aspect of the Left-Hand Path is the idea of self-deification—becoming one’s own god or embracing the divine within. This process often involves transcending the limitations of the material world and the ego.
• Exploration of Taboo or Forbidden Knowledge: LHP practitioners are often drawn to exploring areas considered taboo or forbidden by mainstream religions, such as the study of death, the afterlife, or working with spirits traditionally seen as "evil" or "chaotic."
• Darkness and Shadow Work: The LHP is sometimes associated with the "dark" side of spirituality, including shadow work, which involves confronting one's hidden, suppressed, or negative aspects to achieve greater self-awareness and healing.
While the Left-Hand Path is often misunderstood as "evil," it is more about personal transformation and embracing one's true self, free from societal or religious conditioning. Some well-known figures associated with the Left-Hand Path include Aleister Crowley, Michael W. Ford, and other occultists who focus on self-development and magickal practices.
It’s important to note that the Left-Hand Path can vary significantly in its specific practices and beliefs depending on the individual or tradition. Some practitioners might lean more toward spiritual enlightenment, while others focus on power dynamics and mastery over external forces.

Thoughts on the way spirits present themselves:
Sometimes, when we're calling spirits, they're arrive without us knowing. The spirit could be standing right in front of us waving, and our subtle senses just aren't fine-tuned enough to see them. Some get around this by working with a scryer. Others might build the ritual pressure in the space until the spirit is compelled into become more visible. Something i find consistently reliable is utilizing forms of passive divination.
This way, you have ways of diving a spirit's presence without having to pull your attention away from your conjurations or ritual actions.

Passive divination methods for spirit conjuration could include:
Burning incense to see figures and signs in the smoke
Letting candles melt to look for symbols in the wax
Hanging bells around the space
A water scrying set up where the surface is oily to more easily produce images
Above, I included photos from a ritual I did a while ago where I used candles and stone with a similar purpose. This stone was being consecrated as a tool to scry with in the future, and I wasn't receiving clear signs that the spirit i called had come. It wasn't until I looked down and saw the melted wax in the form of a black hand that I realized they were sitting with me. It was small and very subtle, so subtle I could've easily missed it.
Having passive ways of scrying and divining the presence of spirits can be a huge help when exploring new spirits and conjuration methods. It takes some discernment to know how to use them, but when applied well, they are a huge boon to one's setup.
