MY opinion to The Chameleon

MY first version is CHINESE so I share my opinion by CHINESE. Also have ENGLISH version, BUT might not express myself well, English isn't my native language. IF you like this opinion, you can consider both the Chinese and English versions together.

其实我还蛮欣赏妖后的，除了畸形母女情戳中我的点还有一个原因是，她和其他三位的反派立意感不太一样，她面对的困境与片子里同样的学武的女性角色也不一样。

虎妞和小蛇尽管都是女性，但是一个有师傅和种族力量，一个有种族敏捷和武侠家庭背景，她们在武学这条路上社会身份（师门）和自身素质（天赋/能力）足以忽略性别（社会主流男性视角）带来的不平等，因此不会太难。从设定上来说妖后是一个没有背景、瘦弱的女性不被主流武学承认学习武术的能力和天份，所以另辟蹊径自学变形、幻术（法术？魔法？总之是魔法攻击）。三无身份不被主流接受，所以用其他方式做大做强，蜥妃回宫。如果她不是一个反派，一定会拿励志剧本的，一个从底层爬起来的女性！（这告诉我们不要在一件事上死磕，通过别的方式也能达到想要的目的，虽然我们在功夫的世界，但是我们也可以追求其他东西）

与其他三位反派相比较，妖后的设定上就会发现她其实站在一个男性（包括传统武侠）视角的对立面，她的地位在男性视角下是不受尊重的，她的身形在男性视角下是弱小的，她的性别在男性视角下是客体。一个不能被男性社会接纳、认可的女性，要么顺从社会运转的思维，甘愿成为一个客体，要么就是反抗，把自己变成主体——这样就会有两条路，要么打出专属女性的道路，要么就是变成一个拥有女性身体的男人。（我认为妖后这两条路在剧情塑造下算是融合在一块了）她攻击了每一个反派，一方面是剧情需要，另一方面算是对男性主体的世界外表层面反驳。之所以说是外表层面，因为她的变形借用其实也说明她还是认可男性主体这件事的，她没有完成真正意义上的反驳。 但这不意味着妖后这个角色很败笔，她还是展现出了其他反派相对稀缺的独立性。大龙、沈王爷、天煞将军他们其实都在复仇-获取认可，经历了他人对自己带来了巨大创伤之后做出回击，他们在情感上都有非常强烈的对具体他者的执念性。

妖后其实没有这种对具体他者的执念性，她在情感上独立，她要做的事情是来源于自我意志的，她没有上者（大龙与师傅、沈王爷与父母/羊仙姑）和同辈（天煞与乌龟）的情感纠葛，唯一有情感关系性的下者小真，也是她的自我的投射。她对小真的愤怒表层是背叛，深层是来源于自我投射的偏离。因为社会主流男性视角，习惯将女性作为客体，现代社会女性拥有了主体的权力，但客体的身份属性仍然在身上，使得女性在这样的情况下拥有主体和客体的双重视角。对妖后来说，小真作为客体是养女，作为主体是曾经的她。所以说妖后是自恋的，不允许自我意志受到外界的倾轧，她所欣赏的自始自终都是她自己。

尽管KFP4的故事不尽如人意，可是一个独立的、拥有自我意志的、自恋的底层爬起来的女性，怎么让人不心动呢？

Actually, I quite admire the the chameleon. Besides resonating with the theme of the twisted mother-daughter relationship, there's another reason: her characterization differs from the other three villains. The challenges she faces and her response to them diverge from those of other female martial artists depicted in the film.

While Tigress and Viper are both female characters, one possesses a master and racial abilities, and the other has racial agility and comes from a martial arts family background. Their social status (martial arts sect) and personal qualities (talent/abilities) are sufficient to overlook the gender-based inequalities (from the mainstream male perspective) on the path of martial arts. Hence, their journey isn't too difficult. In terms of setup, the chameleon is portrayed as a backgroundless, frail woman whose ability and talent in martial arts are not recognized by the mainstream martial arts community. Therefore, she takes a different path, self-studying shapeshifting and magic( magical attacks). With no recognized status, she seeks other means to gain power and influence, eventually returning to the palace as the Lizard Consort. If she weren't a villain, her story would likely be an inspirational script about a woman rising from the bottom! (This teaches us not to be fixated on one thing; we can achieve our goals through other means. Even in the world of martial arts, we can pursue other things.)

Compared to the other three antagonists, the chameleon characterization reveals that she actually stands in opposition to a male (including traditional arts) perspective. Her status is not respected, her physique is seen as weak, and her gender is objectified from the male perspective. A woman who isn't accepted or acknowledged by male society must either conform to societal norms and become an object or rebel and assert herself as a subject. This presents two paths: either carving out a path exclusive to women or becoming a man with a female body. (I believe the chameleon embodies both paths in the narrative.) Her attack for each villain is partly due to the plot's needs and partly a rebuttal to the male-dominated world on the surface. This rebuttal is superficial because her use of shapeshifting implies her acceptance of the male-dominated society; she hasn't truly opposed it.

However, this doesn't mean the chameleon is a failure as a character; she still exhibits independence, which is relatively rare among the other antagonists. Tai Lung, Lord Shen, and General Kai are all driven by revenge - seeking acknowledgment and retaliating after suffering immense trauma caused by others. They all have strong emotional attachments to specific individuals. The chameleon, on the other hand, lacks this attachment to specific individuals; her actions stem from her own will. She doesn't have emotional entanglements with superiors (Tai Lung with his master, Lord Shen with his parents/Sheep Elder) or peers (General Kai with Master Oogway), and her only emotional connection is with zhen, who is a projection of herself. Her anger towards zhen is superficially about betrayal but fundamentally stems from her deviation from her self-projection. Due to the male-dominated perspective, which habitually objectifies women, modern women possess the power of subjectivity but still carry the attributes of objects, giving them a dual perspective of subjectivity and objectivity. For the chameleon, zhen represents both an object (as a foster daughter) and a subject (as her former self). Thus, the chameleon is narcissistic, refusing to let her self-will be crushed by external forces, and everything she admires ultimately reflects herself.

Despite the shortcomings of KFP4's story, how can one not be drawn to an independent, self-willed, narcissistic woman who rises from the bottom?

Zhuge Qing, as a Qimen sorcerer (奇门术士), is interested in both his own bagua (八卦; the Eight Trigrams) and others’ (slang for “gossip”)

unless i simply missed it, the live-action doesn’t really explain why Zhang Chulan’s nickname is a-Lian (阿莲; “lotus”). it’s because he was so shameless during the tournament that people cussed him out for “not having any fucking face” (不要逼脸), which then became a pun/homophone:  不摇碧莲 (lit. “the unshakeable jade lotus”)

the meme that Zhuge Qing sends Feng Baobao is the 不要靠近---，会变得不幸 joke

i really wanted to explore Zhuge Qing and Zhang Lingyu’s friendship more lol. they’re the first to size each other up, yet they don’t really seem to interact after the tournament??? 

“That I like him is not false” (“我喜欢他不假。”) is a line Zhuge Qing says in manhua chapter 309 about Wang Ye. it was cut from the donghua

A heart that cradles everything beneath the heavens (心怀天下)

a very famous scene (名场面) during the end of the Biyou Village arc is when Wang Ye beats up Zhuge Qing (王也踏青图 LOL)

Zhuge Qing is the star fated to oppose Wang Ye (克星; lit. “star that restrains,” “star that subdues”). my use of “oppose” is meant to callback to all the times they stand facing each other within their Qimen arrays

“It’s been many days since we last saw each other; you’ve lost weight.” (“多日未见，你瘦了。”）

“Happy end-of-filming.” (“杀青快乐。”; lit. can be understood as “Happy killing/murder of Qing”) which is why Zhuge Qing jokes that it’s inauspicious

the Tying-a-Red-String Squad (牵红线小分队) is a rather literal translation, but i liked the imagery. it’s really more like the Matchmaking Squad or the Wingmen Squad

in the source material, Wang Ye (26 yo) is 182cm, whereas Zhuge Qing (25 yo) is 180cm. this is a live-action set-up though, so i’m pleased to inform everyone that Hou Minghao is 178cm and Wanyan Luorong is 188cm. 你看着身高差，很难不嗑

the black coat, blue scarf, gloves, and boots outfit that Wang Ye wears is a reference to this douyin of Hou Minghao’s, which is in turn a reference to a sequence in the donghua’s season 3 opening

Hou Minghao has almond-shaped eyes (杏眼) <3

“Like the perfect blooming flowers and the round full moon, may the ones you care about be at peace for ages to come” (花好月圆人长久) is fairly common Mid-Autumn Festival phrase. 花好月圆 in particular is also related with conjugal bliss and can be used as congratulations for someone’s marriage

similarly, “The most beautiful landscape that can be described with words: the wind and moon that are without boundary; I wish you a joyful festival” (风月无边，佳节愉快) is often used for the Mid-Autumn Festival. 风月无边 comes from this poem and can also allude to the romantic affairs between people～

drifting clouds and wild storks (闲云野鹤) is an idiom: free and unrestrained, aloof from worldly concerns. i think it suits Wang Ye very well, as someone who is always searching for peace but will never be able to attain it

“it is for me that your mortal heart beats” (你是为我动的凡心). another translation that i ended up scrapping was “it is for me that you developed mortal desires.”

“actor” (艺人) and “Outsider” (异人) sound the same; hence, Wang Ye was making a really shitty pun. rui offered a better translation: “I may not be in a film cast, but I am an Outcast.”

Hou Minghao and Wanyan Luorong do both have freckles on their eyelids!!

i owe rui my LIFE for helping me come up with Xiao Hao’s (肖豪) name. 豪 can refer to “a person of extraordinary powers,” so i thought it fitting for the setting. his name is also supposed to be a pun for 消耗 (“to consume,” “to use up”), because he was wasting Wang Ye’s time

QingYe’s conversation about platinum-colored hair is reference to Hou Minghao’s birthday photoshoot. platinum (白金) can be broken down into “white” and “gold,” which is why Wang Ye asks if Zhuge Qing is saying “you’ll be with me till our hair turns white” (白头偕老; to remain happily married till a ripe old age)

Zhuge Qing teases Wang Ye by using 嫁 (“to be taken as someone’s wife”; “to marry” [women-only]) rather than �� (“to take someone as wife”; “to marry” [men-only]). of course, Wang Ye points out he’s a whole-ass man (老爷们儿)

“Face this world with sincerity, and so shall you obtain a sincere character. When you can face this world with calmness always, then so shall you achieve peace and tranquility forever.” (真常应物，真常得性；常应常静，常清静矣。) is the Sutra of Everlasting Peace (清静经) that Wang Ye recites in episode 15 of the live-action

“Cultivation doesn’t happen in the past. It happens now.” (修行不在过去，在现在) comes from Zhang Chulan’s closing monologue in episode 27 of the live-action. Cultivation, of course, is another word for life

“The amount of good cabbage you’ve ruined makes you no less than a pig” references 好白菜都让猪给拱了, which can mean that “a pure/good[-looking] person has been spoiled by someone scummy.” 拱 has sexual undertones lol

想想也過得夠久 可以來寫和L的故事了。

和L是在外校重修時認識的，兩個系上的後段班，很快就因為借作業什麼的熟了起來。L是一個白淨纖瘦的女生，雖然不是我喜歡的類型，但她確實是個高冷美女。聊起天來她就是個單純直接，有南部口音的太妹。那時我們各自有喜歡的對象，很自然的互認乾哥乾妹，聊系上追她的男生，以及我那有憂鬱症的曖昧對象。

在被期末壓的喘不過氣的時候，她和家中個性火爆的軍人老爸吵架，每夜惡夢連連；我喜歡的女生則是不再跟我聯絡了。凌晨，我們在冷清的自習室外邊喝熱巧克力邊吐苦水：她著恨她爸，不屑拿他的錢在台北生活、談及對家的唯一掛念就是家裡的老狗。

年前，我們在咖啡廳準備下禮拜重修的期末考。唸書時，她簡單提到她看到IG上的廣告，說明天要去跟幹部面試酒店小姐，我心裡頭的警鈴大響，天哪，她要去做什麼？

我們傍晚離開咖啡廳去坐捷運。在捷運月台，我再仔細的問了一次。她也蠻不在乎的再敘述了一遍因為她不想跟家裡拿錢，所以想找個賺快錢的工作，昨天已經打電話跟那裡的女公關約好面試了。聽完之後我的心裏一片混亂，想阻止她卻又不知道該說些什麼好，那時候思緒的混亂與情緒的起伏，是會讓人瀕臨失控的那種。

上了捷運以後，我除了和她講不要去之外也不知道能做什麼。最終，只能握著她的手，勾著她的肩膀，像個戀人一樣在她耳畔輕聲的請求她不要去面試。在轉車的月台，她用顫抖聲音的說她快哭了，腦子空白的我緊緊的抱著她、拂著背說有事我們一起想辦法，不要衝動。最終我們說好，隔天我在外面等她面試結束。

隔晚我在大樓外等待，那間公司的門牌寫著xx國際娛樂還什麼的，黑底金字，感覺就是間黑道經營的辦公室。兩個半小時的長長等待之後，L終於從電梯出來，寒冷飄雨的冬天，她穿著不符合季節的黑紗衫與熱褲，看起來冷酷又迷茫，那一刻我好疲憊，也好焦急，但終於等到她了。時近跨年，街道上瀰漫著放假迎新的快樂氣氛，而我則因為這事情完全開心不起來。

往捷運站的路上，糖炒栗子的攤販散著熱氣，但我的心情沒有因為這小小的溫暖而舒展。她說著她因為酒量不好、個性慢熟，被男公關建議去做s。終於坐上捷運，她講到如果下海一個禮拜可以賺三萬，這樣寒假一個月就能賺十五萬了。聽到之後我顫抖的問說：妳這樣金錢觀不會被養壞嗎？她無法肯定，也無法否定；她說到因為自己的胸部太小不會受台北的有錢客戶歡迎，所以被安排下週去桃園面試，而女公關對她說等她賺到一些錢之後就可以去整牙跟隆乳了，她微微笑著說這樣就可以變漂亮跟賺更多。憤怒、失望的情緒糾纏在我的心裡，捷運上我們貼著坐，但當時我只能低著頭，偶爾艱難的擠出一些問題試圖了解狀況。

面試的情況理解的差不多了，她要去下一輪面試的意向也蠻堅決的了，我憂愁的問L說：妳怎不去給人包養就好了呢？她說那間公司的人說被包養就想是被當寵物，不能學到什麼技能。幹，聽到這句話我真的火氣整個上來，心裡想當妓女是能學什麼技能嗎？那一刻可能是我這輩子第一次這麼想打一個女生，憤怒、失望，理解到說爸媽想打小孩的那個衝動是什麼。我很想直接放棄她，走出車廂。但我辦不到，捷運剛好開到龍山寺站，我把她拉下車。

拉著她下車時，是想讓她看看華西街的娼寮是長什麼樣子，但我心情實在是太浮躁不安了，於是就決定先走去龍山寺拜拜。在主殿裡我祈求觀音與媽祖不要讓身旁的她走上歧途，祈求她能和家裡的關係和好。拜完之後，心情有平靜一點，我勾著她的手走過廟旁小巷。看到巷子裡坐在娼館門口的紅光下等待客人的妓女們，她看起來有嚇到，直說應該公司給的環境不會這麼差。

之後我們回到學校附近，在幾乎客滿火鍋店吃晚餐。那晚我們聊好多好多東西，聊兒時的種種、星座算命、一些好的或壞的經驗、家人之類的事。在火鍋蒸騰的水氣裡洗掉疲倦與憂慮，補充一些能量。在好好地吃了一頓晚餐之後，我跟L的心情也就平復些了。打烊了，在回到宿舍的路上我把她冰冷的手放進口袋裏取暖，她笑著說再對她毛手毛腳我就是噁男，我回她說待會付你錢就不算啦。路上她拉著我的手叫著截色，就這樣笑著鬧著到了她的宿舍門口，我輕柔又悠長的抱住她跟她說希望她再好好考慮未來，她沒好氣的說聲好啦。她走進學舍大門，隔了兩分鐘又打電話給我說折傘忘在我這裡，交給她傘後，沒想過這是我們最後一次深談。

L之後有大半年不願意和我說話，此時的我大概心中有個底，她終究是去做酒店了。看著她隆起的山根、霧眉、以及花錢去做���隱適美牙套，直到最終在她的ig上查到酒店經紀po出她簽約的照片。我知道她去做八大了，我也和她越來越遠，即使我們有因為在一起上課而稍微破冰，深深的隔閡卻難以打破，曾經嘗試約她出門，換來的是她和我講她和別的男生出門約會，一切的努力與對她的掛念好像蒙了塵的櫥，之後被丟棄，好像不曾存在過。

過去的一年我去拜了好多次月老，求得的籤告訴我她可能有第三者，卻又告訴我不要放棄這段感情，一直到前天再去得到一張下籤，在擲筊問事之後告訴我可以放下這段情了，這份執著也得結束。我不清楚這段經歷帶給我什麼成長，只知道這件事帶給我難以抹滅的記憶吧。

Post-Wedding / Honeymoon Photography and Bridal Hair Styling & Makeup Service in Paris, France

We have provided post-wedding / honeymoon photography and bridal hair styling & makeup service to this stylish Malaysian bride and groom on a lovely day in August, in Paris, France.

This couple has actually came all the way from Malaysia to Europe to spend their honeymoon in some cities. Paris is one of them. They have found us from our Facebook page for taking their photos and providing hair styling and makeup.

It was our fourth time to came to Paris from London for providing our photo & video shoot and hair styling, makeup services within 3 months.

On the day, we have arrived Paris early morning and started the styling service straight away after introduction, having a nice chat with them. The bride has changed her dress style two times before making a decision about clothing choice. She wore one casual long silky type of dress flatter her body shape. She is a tall, skinny lady with lovely long legs. The slit on the dress helps showing off that.

We started to take photos near their hotel, in front of The Arc de Triomphe in the morning. Then we went to Palais Garnier and arrived Le mur des je t'aime (English meaning: Wall of Love) to take the couple's romantic photos in front of this wall which has written ''I Love You'' sentence in every language on it. It is very famous in Montmartre, an authentic village in the heart of Paris.

We have also took some photos in front of a very famous church and touristic attraction of Paris, Sacré-Cœur Basilica. And of course, we cannot miss their charming garden.

In late afternoon, we went to Eiffel Tower and Pont Alexandre III. We took so many pretty photos in front of this iconic, magnificent building, and different areas around the riverside. Paris has became the city we visited most now. We know our way inside out.

We wish them a happy married life ever after. Hope that we can meet them again to take their lovely pregnancy and newborn baby photos in the future.

當天我們一大早就抵達巴黎，介紹完後馬上開始造型服務。和他們聊得很開心。我們就是有超能力去跟新人聯繫像朋友一樣。新娘在決定服裝選擇之前已經改變了兩次著裝風格。她穿著一件休閒長款絲質連衣裙，襯托出她高挑瘦削的身材。裙子上的開衩有助炫耀長腿。

早上，我們在他們酒店附近凱旋門前開始拍照。然後我們去了歌劇院並到達 Le mur des je t'aime（英文意思：愛之牆）在這面用各種語言寫著“我愛你”的牆前拍攝情侶的浪漫照片。它在巴黎市中心的地道村莊蒙馬特非常有名。

我們還在巴黎非常有名的旅遊景點聖心大教堂前拍了一些照片。當然，我們不能錯過他們迷人的花園。

下午晚些時候，我們去了埃菲爾鐵塔和亞歷山大三世橋。我們在這座標誌性的宏偉建築前和河邊的不同區域拍了很多漂亮的照片。巴黎已經成為我們現在訪問最多的城市。我們知道我們的城市裡裡外外。
