the thing is, sam really doesn’t feel like jack’s parent most of the time. like he’s absolutely a mentor to jack, but the type of support he provides doesn’t often feel like parenting to me, particularly in comparison to cas and dean. like he’s not really setting boundaries?

I genuinely cannot put into words how much I despise the Destiel agenda people push with Jack. Like… what are you even talking about when you say Dean and Cas are “his parents” and Sam is just the "uncle"??

Be for real. That entire narrative is so far removed from what actually happened in the show it makes my head hurt. First of all, let’s talk about Jack’s literal first word: “Father?” And who was he speaking to?Sam Winchester. Not Dean. Not Cas. SAM.

From the moment Jack came into the world, he was reaching for Sam. It wasn’t some random thing either—Jack sensed the one person in the room who was willing to give him a chance, who didn’t immediately label him as a threat. Sam was the first person to look at Jack like he was a child instead of a ticking time bomb.

Now let’s talk about Dean’s reaction in that same moment: Dean’s first instinct was to *shoot Jack in the head*. Not hesitate. Not think it through. Not try to understand. Just straight-up pull the trigger. That is not fatherly energy. That’s not “I’m scared but I’ll protect you anyway” energy. That’s “I want you dead” energy. And this isn’t an isolated incident either—Dean spends episodes treating Jack like he’s an abomination, something that shouldn’t exist, and only softens up after Sam and Jack do all the heavy lifting to prove Jack’s humanity.

Sam, on the other hand? Sam is the one who teaches Jack how to be a person. Sam is the one who comforts him when he’s scared, supports him when he’s grieving, and believes in him when literally no one else does. Sam sat with Jack and taught him morals, patience, and empathy—things Jack wouldn’t have learned from anyone else. Sam raised Jack emotionally, spiritually, and mentally. That’s not “uncle” behavior. That’s a parent.

And don’t even get me started on the way Destiel shippers sideline Sam in Jack’s life just to push some weird “co-parenting aesthetic” between Dean and Cas. It’s not only inaccurate, it’s insulting to Sam’s role in the narrative. Sam didn’t risk everything for Jack, didn’t fight for him, didn’t love him deeply just to be reduced to the “fun uncle” who occasionally shows up.

Dean and Cas as Jack’s “parents” is fanfiction. Cute for an AU? Sure. But in canon? It’s revisionist history. Dean didn’t even want Jack alive for most of his formative moments, and Cas wasn’t there for half of it either. Sam is the only constant. Sam is Jack’s anchor, his protector, his guide. If anyone is Jack’s father, it’s Sam Winchester.

So no, I don’t want to hear about your “found family” headcanons where Dean and Cas are the doting dads and Sam is just the quirky uncle popping in to babysit. That’s not what happened. Stop disrespecting Sam’s place in Jack’s life to prop up a ship dynamic that never existed in the show.

one of the only good things the writers of spn did was have sam and jack understand each other and be there for each other. the way jack was upset at sam because he overheard dean say that sam was only using jack for his own benefit and didn't actually care about him. BUT sam quickly shut that down and told the truth about how, yes, he did want jack to unlock his powers because he wants to rescue his mother, BUT sam cares about him regardless!!!!!!!! sam cares about jack anyways!!!!!!!! he just wants jack to be good and wants to teach him that he can be good no matter what anyone says about him!!!!!!!!! jack melting during this conversation was everything i needed.

SAM APPRECIATION WEEK 4: LGBT+/ Dynamics/Family

I absolutly ADORE Sam and Jack's relationship. How Sam, in spite of knowing Jacks father too well, he doesn't believe that Jack is or will be just like Lucifer. He sees his light, his innocence, and I believe he saw himself in him. Sam was expected to be evil: demon blood running in his veins, expected to be the "boy king", born to be Lucifer's true vessel; Sam's "fate" was to be the desctructor of the world, and yet, he is kind, empathetic and sees the good in everyone, no matter if they are human or not. Jack becomes part of his family, and he acts as a mentor and a loving parent (we just missed Sam teaching Jack to use his powers using his OWN powers. That would have been AWESOME)

As to the LGBT part, I personally headcanon him as asexual; even if he had girlfriends and he loved them, he just didn't seem to be eager for it, like it is an option, but it is not really that important (headcanon, ofc, but this is my favourite interpretation of it)

And Happy birthday to little Jack, the best boy ever!
