Just got back from a full day out. 9 am had a required class (on a Saturday jfc) and it wasn't that bad. We picked up trash, cleared an area for a flower garden and planted flower seeds. Then I went back home, had some bratwurst for lunch, and then I went to a science center and saw the cutest damn animals ever and only got back at 5 pm. This was after like a full night out btw I didn't get to sleep until 1 am
There was an otter there but he was shy and anxious so I didn't take a picture of him. He reminded me of my girlfriend
And then I saw a really pretty maned wolf and a uh....I can't remember the name but I think it was a Okapi?? Majestic animals I love them
I didn't get to see the binturong though which made me sad because they're one of my favorite animals ever. They have a prehensile tail so they can grab onto stuff and their wrists rotate like ours so they can climb stuff and they're so dang cute I love them so much.

Greetings, fellow travelers! 🌎
On this blog you will find wild stories, stunning photos, quotes, random gossip, whimsy & snark, from staff and visitors to:
Museums 🏛️
Science centers 🔭
Zoos 🐼
Aquariums 🦈
Botanical gardens 🌿
& related institutions.
I have some stories of my own to tell, and I want to hear about your experiences in these places, too!
About me: I just took early retirement after working for more than 25 years as the web designer, editor, and photographer for a natural history museum. I have a BA in anthropology and a master's in museum studies. I had graduate assistantships in the exhibits, entomology, and geology/paleontology departments of the university museum where I was working towards my degree. Before that, I worked as a sort of general assistant in a small science museum. Earlier still, I volunteered with the exhibits team at a science & nature center that also had a small zoo.
My parents were both scientists - mom was a high school biology teacher (and a botanist by training) and dad was a physicist. They both loved to travel, and we did a lot of that when I was a kid. We took a few cross-country road trips, and also took trips to Canada, France, the UK and Switzerland. I've done limited travel on my own to Germany and Denmark. I've been to museums and similar places on most of these trips. I plan to share my thoughts on those experiences here.
Please join me in exploring the world of museums!

Another day trip interaction was while I was in the parakeet exhibit. I asked the caretaker if she had named all of the birds. She stated that she has only named 54 of the birds then she asked me how many birds I thought were in that room altogether. In fact she asked everyone in the room what their guesses were as well. There was no way to actually photograph the amount of birds in this room but I guessed 150 and that felt over. This woman looks at us and says there are 240 birds in that room and she had specific special moments with all of them from what I could tell. She does good work. She happened to take care of all of the living beings in that specific science center and she seemed to really love her job. Seeing someone enjoy what they do also gave me some much needed positive vibes today.
Edit*
I also forgot to add that the last few pictures feature a parakeet that was the biggest hog and was constantly bullying and making the other birds fly off. I kept telling him he was a big ole bully butt and was gonna turn into a bird seed if he didn't learn how to share with his parapeeps.

So I met this parrot today at a science center I happened to check out with my fiance.
Immediately, I knew this dude was an attention seeking feathery whore of a guy. I could not for the life of me get an actual picture of his mate because he had to be in my face immediately from the start. (See last couple of pictures for proof.) I kept telling him he was a little attention hog and he seemed to love my interaction with him. I asked the caretaker if he was normally so insistent on being the more social of the two and if he normally needed all eyes on him.
She stated that he believes that everyone that comes to the science center is really there to see him so he has to of course be available and look fabulous while doing it. She told me his name and I have already forgotten it. That makes me sad but thinking about this interaction makes me pretty happy.
