Coming out of my slumber to talk about how insane Senkuu makes me.
I really just think it's beautiful that, despite the extraordinary nature of his mind, the brilliant genius of it, it's rarely the first thing I think to mention when describing him.
At his core, his defining characteristic isn't his intelligence, but his heart.
He is defined by his passion for science, his love for learning and applying it, his persistent curiosity about everything that surrounds him, his greed for it, his selflessness when sharing it.
He can't help but share it, even when he knows nobody will actually understand, because it's not about that.
It's practically spilling out of him, he's overflowing with it.
Science is what he lives and breathes for, and it's so refreshing to see a story depicting it as the beautiful and fascinating thing that it is.
He is also defined by all the people he's forged everlasting connections with; by trusting them and by them trusting him in return.
He is defined by all his unique relationships, and every single one of them is an integral part of him.
All this is to say that he is defined by love.
And his driving force is his relentless optimism, the indisputable faith in humanity's capacity for good by the means of science.
It's made more impactful, because he's aware of the bad and the ugly, he's even faced it time and again in some of its forms, but still his conviction remains unwavering.
Even at the lowest points, he cannot ever be convinced otherwise; his heart's practically set in stone.
And this is what gets me. Characters who are all heart just get me.
It's genuinely no wonder I'll never move on from this damn story, it's all heart and few things else.
The fact that all this is for science is the only thing that gets me even more.
Because I'm exhausted of the tried-and-true "tortured and depressed genius" x "science can be used for incredible evil" trope.
Fuck that, we know that, we're living that.
Tell me about how fun and enchanting and heartfelt it can be instead, because science was born through the passion, endurance and defiance of thousands upon thousands of people.
Tell me about how love and ambition are every bit the motivation behind innovation as greed and selfishness are.
Tell me about how those things can go hand in hand, and tell me why that's not inherently bad and ugly.
Tell me about how humanity isn't all bad and ugly.

OG6 Avengers’ The “Nice Guy”: Who (Actually) Apologizes the Most?
The Poll shows that people think it is Bruce by a wide margin. There are even people who think Tony never apologizes.
Tumblr media
Let's see if this is actually true.
Total number of "Sorry" each character said/meant (with links to their posts with exact time):
1) Tony – 35
2) Steve – 13
3) Natasha – 10
4) Thor – 9
5) Bruce – 7
6) Clint – 1
Once again, Tony wins with 35 apologies. There is a huge gap between him and second place, Steve.
Now we are going to check the frequency (see rules here) and list characters by The Nice Guy Score, starting with the last one:
#6 – Clint
Tumblr media
Clint said “Sorry” only once and this time ended up in last place.
His “Nice Guy Score”:  (1000/50.5)*1=19.8 points or 1 sorry per 50.5 mins.
#5 – Thor
Tumblr media
Thor apologized several times in his first and third films, but never did so in Thor 2 or any of the Avengers films and comes in second from last.
His “Nice Guy Score”: (1000/204.75)*9=44 points or 1 sorry per 22.7 mins.
#4 – Bruce
Tumblr media
Even Hulk knows how to say “Sorry”.
His “Nice Guy Score”: (1000/141.25)*7=49.6 points or 1 sorry per 20.2 mins.
#3 – Steve
Tumblr media
This is the second time Steve ends up in 3rd place. Will he stay there for the rest of the contest?
His “Nice Guy Score”: (1000/243.25)*13=53.4 points or 1 sorry per 18.7 mins.
#2 – Natasha
Tumblr media
In the previous round, Nat was 6th. Good job this time.
Her “Nice Guy Score”: (1000/176)*10=56.8 points or 1 sorry per 17.6 mins.
And finally, the guy who apologizes the most is...
#1– Tony
Tumblr media
35 times, wow. With so many it is impossible to beat him.
His “Nice Guy Score”: (1000/357.25)*35=98 points or 1 sorry per 10.2 mins.
Conclusion: The MCU and science show that Tony apologized more than others and did it more often than them. A lot more. The difference between him and Steve is 2.5 times in total number and 2 times in frequency.
Let’s now combine “Thank you” and “Sorry” points:
Total the Nice Guy Score so far:
1) Tony with 81.2+98=179.2 points
2) Steve with 82.2+53.4=135.6 points
3) Bruce with 85+49.6=134.6 points
4) Thor with 87.9+44=131.9 points
5) Natasha with 34.1+56.8=90.9 points
6) Clint with 39.6+19.8=59.4 points
You can find the first round here.

There's this chemical called "indole" that's contained in jasmine, rotting fruit, dead bodies and it's also emitted when people have sex. And humans are conditioned to enjoy the smell because, you know, it smells like sex.
Now, listen. What if Valentino's smoke smells like that, or at least has those notes. That's not canon but Val's VA said that he headcanons the smoke to smell kinda flowery.
But here's the thing. Indole smells "sexy" only in small amounts, otherwise it starts leaning into the rotting aspect. And we all damn well know Val smokes like a chimney and doesn't open the windows afterwards, so his whole floor probably REEKS. (Cue to Alastor hanging out there a lot)
Anyway, my point is, obviously Alastor likes the smell of corpses, and Valentino is left absolutely flabbergasted as to why Al is into his cigarettes so much (totally not stealing @unstoppablegrish's headcanon for Alastor being a cigarette thief) Bonus points if Alastor asks to get the smoke blown into his face/get shotgunned.

TYPES OF GALAXIES, PART 5:
Irregular Galaxies
The Hubble Space Telescope captured this image of NGC 5264, an irregular dwarf galaxy.
Irregular galaxies tend to have unusual shapes, like toothpicks, rings, or little groupings of stars. Their sizes also range from dwarf irregular galaxies, with 100 million times the Sun's mass, to large ones weighing 10 billion solar masses.
Astronomers think these galaxies’ odd shapes are sometimes the result of interactions with others. For example, one spiral galaxy passing another with a stronger gravitational pull could lose some of its material, become distorted, and morph into a new shape. Some, like gas-rich dwarf galaxies, may be new, formed by material pulled from such encounters. Or perhaps when galaxies collide, they create a larger, oddly shaped mashup. Some scientists theorize that some large irregular galaxies could represent an intermediate step between spiral and elliptical galaxies.
Irregular galaxies born from galaxy interactions or collisions typically host a mix of older and younger stars, depending on the characteristics and composition of the original galaxies. Irregular galaxies may also hold significant amounts of gas and dust – essential ingredients for making new stars.
It's expected that when our galaxy collides with Andromeda, it will form an irregular galaxy.

Ever back out a screw really fast and notice it's a bit hot? That's due to a transfer of mechanical energy to thermal energy through friction! Well if u accidentally lean directly on one of those screws, u can actually burn the shit out of yourself! Pretty sick right?!

science is cool
my parents are scientists
it's a funny job to have grown up around
My Father, in particular, works for a research intensive university, which means that he ends up in all sorts of trades, learning random pieces of information.
In effect, aside from the teaching side, he is a prostitute who the university pimps out to larger, older clients, for luxury, longer term contracts. He can say no, of course, but rarely has reason to.
"Let's see, little-pharma, you're looking for a lanky chemical-physicist who cannot leave the house without 3 layers of band shirt and a corduroy jacket, is that right?"
"Does he have any...um...special interests?"
"Well as a matter of fact, he's a rehologist, do you know what that is?"
*gasping and blushing*
It can be quite depressing though: after creating a surface coating that prevented barnacles attaching to ships (which cause thousands to be wasted on fuel as the ship becomes less and less streamlined over time) everything was scrapped because you had to apply two coats, which is commercially too costly to sell upfront.
Did you know that your washing machine actually runs about 10°c lower than whatever you set it at, because for years detergents have been effective enough to work at lower temperatures, but by force of habit people kept using the higher settings and wasting energy?
Something else is that in the UK, at least, most of the plastic we send to recycling is actually just burned, or sent abroad.
"not our problem anymore"
My mum works with DNA and other human molecules. The technology we have now means that we could basically do whatever we want to a person, we just don't- it's illegal.
The principle is that if you can do it to ape DNA, you can do it to a person, and we can do a hell of a lot to apes.
Probably the best thing she's done is put bacterial genes inside jellyfish to make them glow green.
Someone could have done that to you as a foetus, they just didn't.
Tumblr media
Anyway, science is cool, and I'm still going to disappoint my parents by becoming an amoral, humanities-worshipping, child-of-diablo lawyer :D

OG6 Avengers' The “Nice Guy”: Who Thanks the Most?
I bet you're thinking it's Steve or Bruce, with Tony in last place. Let's find out.
Here's the total number of "thank yous" each character said/meant (with links to their posts with exact time):
1) Tony – 29
2) Steve – 20
3) Thor – 18
4) Bruce – 12
5) Natasha – 6
6) Clint – 2
As you can see from the overall number - Tony wins with 29 thanks, which already proves that he is not actually rude.
Now let's check the frequency (see rules here) and list them by The Nice Guy Score, starting with the last one:
6th – Natasha
Tumblr media
Natasha is in 5th place in total number of thanks - 6. But her screen time is 176 minutes, which is much more than Clint’s.
Given this data that we have: (1000/176)*6=34.1 points or 1 thanks per 29.3 mins.
5th – Clint
Tumblr media
Clint has only 2 thanks, but his screen time is significantly less than other Avengers’ – only 50.5 minutes.
His “Nice Guy Score”: (1000/50.5)*2=39.6 points or 1 thanks per 25.25 mins.
4th – Tony
Tumblr media
Tony has the most – 29 thanks, but his screen time also exceeds everyone else's.
His “Nice Guy Score”: (1000/357.25)*29=81.2 points or 1 thanks per 12.3 mins.
3rd – Steve
Tumblr media
Steve said “thanks” 20 times in 243.25 minutes of screen time.
His “Nice Guy Score”: (1000/243.25)*20=82.2 points or 1 thanks per 12.2 mins.
2nd – Bruce
Tumblr media
Bruce said thanks 12 times, but Hulk said 0 (yes, all Alter Egos participate), so...
His “Nice Guy Score”: (1000/141.25)*12=85 points or 1 thanks per 11.8 mins.
And the most “thankful” person on the team is…
1st – Thor
Tumblr media
Who said or meant “thank you” 18 times in his 204.75 minutes of screen time.
His “Nice Guy Score”: (1000/204.75)*18=87.9 points or 1 thanks per 11.4 mins.
Conclusion: as you can see, Thor, Bruce, Steve and Tony are very close to each other and far from Clint and Nat. The issue of "less screen time" doesn't apply here, because Natasha has more screen time than Bruce.
Grouped together, we can conclude that these 4 big guys say “thank you” a lot and do it often. Whether they do this every time they should is another question and will be considered separately.

Here's some kit school doodles! And under them, info dumping about this Lil grimlin....
[Weirdmageddon outfit] [normal outfit]
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[Not my art at school slowly deteriorating throughout the week/j]
OK SO, THIS LIL MAN AND SCHOOL. He will look at an assignment, pick out the one thing in it that sounds cool to him, and focus on that.
For example: Write an essay about the government!
What he sees: Write an essay!
And he proceeds to write a 14 page essay on quantum physics or something
Another example, learn how to play a trumpet!
Proceeds to build a robot that plays trumpet for him-
See where I'm going here? I SWEAR HIS TEACHERS DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO
"Wow! This is so incredible! But - but it wasn't the assignment kid -"
*Kit gives a thumbs up and walks away*
Sciance class? A+ all around, anything else? HAH, no- he does know the history of invention, though !
He loves his sciance homework, to the point where he steals manels and does it for her-
If it seems like I'm exaggerating, it is his special interest and something he is good at, so he really latches onto it. The reason why he never learns from his teachers telling him to learn what he is supposed to is a combination of not caring, being afraid of confrontation, poor communication skills, and wanting to do the exact opposite when someone tells him to do something -
So he sciance boi >:3
His name, Kit, stands for toolkit! Because he is always carrying around a toolkit so he was nicknamed that

TYPES OF GALAXIES, PART 4:
Lenticular Galaxies
The image below is Lenticular galaxy NGC 4886, photographed by the Hubble Space Telescope, containing primarily old stars but no spiral arms.
Lenticular galaxies are like a cross between spiral galaxies and elliptical galaxies. They have the central bulge and disk common to spiral galaxies but no arms. But like ellipticals, lenticular galaxies have older stellar populations and little ongoing star formation.
Scientists have a few theories about how lenticular galaxies evolved. One idea suggests these galaxies are older spirals whose arms have faded. Another proposes that lenticulars formed from mergers of spiral galaxies.
