A big thank you to everyone who attended my first live and in person science talk of 2025! It was a pleasure sharing insights on the plant immune system combined with practical eco-friendly pest control tips at the historic Church of Saint Peter and Saint Paul's in the village of Broadwell near Lechlade. My gratitude to Anne and Phil Taylor, Annabel Molyneaux, and the rest of the support team who took care of the excellent AV set up and delicious afternoon tea. More talks are in development for this year!
PS. I'm aware of the irony of having a science lecture in a church!

@the-blackest-spider replied to your post “Completely random thought that came up while I was answering that ask...”
wait... so that's a thing to be constantly all shocky?!?! WHY what causes this? Asking for a friend.
So! I never actually looked into it until I was doing research for Reno, but it’s basically that you keep rubbing against things so you become negatively charged so whenever you come into contact with something, and it becomes worse when the weather is dry as the charge can’t escape into the air as quickly (due to lack of moisture) so you’re charged for a little longer. [Video link for better and more in-depth science]
The sofa in my uni house keeps negatively charging me so I get shocked by walls, door frames, the fridge, my friends, and even the front door (guess who’s scared to touch it immediately after sitting down xD)
So basically, one time when I was walking while it was warm and dry, I seemed to have negatively charged myself and the charge decided the metal on my jogger drawstrings was the perfect place to escape. And that’s the story of how I shocked my crotch one time

Would people be interested in a discussion about how skin color is an adaptation and how race is a social construct?  I attended an interesting lecture about it and wouldn’t mind putting together a science talk for it.

My liver produces glucose when I sleep. This tells me that my cells are insulin resistant and done absorb what I'm producing while not active. When I wake in the morning my numbers always start high. As I eat healthy food and move throughout the day my numbers normalize to a diabetic safe level for two hours after eating. So my plan then is to keep numbers down as much as possible for phase 1 and then phase two involves fasting to adjust how my cells behave. #wontbediabeaten #diabetic #diabetes #gameplan #sciencetalk #hereshoping
