HALFLIFE: Improvisations & Interviews, by Charles Wright (1989)
Poetry is the dark beast with its mouth open, and you’ve got to walk down that tongue and into the windy mouth. And you’ve got to sing while you walk. — Charles Wright

ScoreLab: Noam Paco Gaster
 Some Scores from Noam-ScoreLab #1
• Loving Kindness: Attune to ourselves, each Other, and our environment, Invite loving kindness, Notice what emerges, Repeat as necessary • Environmental love letters: Think about memories involving a particular place, and how it’s, Write love letters to the place, or to individuals one might find there, intuitively distribute the love letters to individuals, directly, secretly • Smurf on a string: One person at a time puts on a smurf stuffie tied to a string, Everyone else follows them around, noticing what their noticing, until they take off the stuffie necklace, Someone else can now put it on • Love’s blanket: Ask Love for details • Permission score:Travel, When you see someone you want to photo or audio record, ask permissio, Follow their wishes
Some Scores from Noam-ScoreLab #2
Memory Score: Look around at the people, creatures, plants, rocks, buildings, etc. in your midst, Share any relevant memories
Cascade P-Patch Garden Library Score: One person at a time takes a book from the Garden Library (at the central west edge of the P-Patch, under the big cedar/cypress/juniper tree), opens to a random page, and reads the first words they see as if they were instructions, Everyone decides whether or not they want to follow the instructions
Scarecrow Score: There are some scarecrows, If you met them, introduced yourself to them, what gestures would you use?, Do they say things back?, What do they tell you about this land?, Have they ever scared crows here?
An Opening Meditation: Stand where you are.  Contemplate root.  Contemplate source.  How is place a part of who you are?  Who are you apart from place?  Feel rootless, adrift, adrift, un-begun.  How does loss of place play through these feelings?, Offering: Honor the space.  Note what’s changed.  Honor what’s gone.  Grieve.  Acknowledge what’s here.
Big Boulder at the Northwest End of the Cascade P-Patch Score: One person at a time adds themselves to the boulder, pretending they’re part of it., The last person left does not join the boulder but instead has 15 seconds to draw a “family portrait”
The Boss Score (Boss is a beautiful brown dog that came to visit): Say “hi” to everyone
Lily’s Not Screaming at Buildings Getting Torn Down Score: Instead, trying to think of it as a collaboration
Wild Beauty Appreciation Score: Group travels en masse, witnessing their environment, When someone wants to appreciate an image of wild beauty, they pause in front of it., Everyone pauses and joins,  silently appreciating the image, Someone begins enthusiastically applauding, Everyone joins in the applause, adding in hooping and hollering as desired, Continue from beginning, as desired
Cascade P-Patch Spiral Staircase Sculpture Score: Ascend the spiral staircase sculpture in the center of the Cascade P-Patch elegantly, with a piece of vegetation on top of your head (preferably edible.), Perhaps think about a metaphorical precipice which is approaching
Where am I?  What am I doing?  (Scan from the macro to the micro.)  Who is the doer?  Who is behind/beyond the doer?  BE that.\
Score for 4 People: People arranged like so or so or so—any arrangement will do, all in stillness, Person in the middle sits and writes 3 real time observations (could be bodily sensations, observations about the space, a thought/desire/fear/emotion/etc.), Person in the middle whispers one observation to each of the others then returns to stillness in middle, Others move, using the observations as a seed, staying present to whole ensemble, Person in the middle moves slowly in response to the others
Individual Loving Kindness Score: Ask yourself: “What do I want to do in this moment to invite loving kindness for myself?”, Do that thing, Repeat as desired, Periodically notice the ways your loving kindness for yourself offers loving kindness to others, Adjust your process accordingly
Imitate the movements of people & objects near you.  Try to reframe each move (e.g. take only the tiniest bit, 1 gesture) from each thing moving on to the next.  Ideal:  surrender into constant & fluid flow of info coming in & movement happening so your dance/move becomes its own coherent collage.
Sacred Group Organism Pilgrimage: Begin after already being sufficiently grounded in the wholesome delight of the Cascade P-Patch, connected to yourselves & each Other,  Improvise as individual and collective sound-and-movement bodies, very gradually migrating to the fence surrounding the [All Rise] sculpture, Throughout, engage in generous poetic expression & deep environmental listening
Sewer Symphony: Gather around the man-hole near the northwest corner of [All Rise] site, outside the fence, everyone bringing a substantial-sized rock, All make music with the rocks and the man-hole cover, while chanting & singing observations & intentions, Allow prayers to seep into sub-structure of the City, End in silence.
Additional Score:
Echolocation:  make a shape & emit sound.  pause & then notice what types of sound come back to you.  navigate & make a new shape based on this new info.  repeat as desired.

Motivation/Inspiration/Impetus:
The communities that began here – queers, artists, weirdos, freaks, etc. Are they becoming marginalized, pushed out … MYTHICAL? Is the story of the Capitol Hill neighborhood now a myth? Your costume – mythical, ancient, vintage, explorer, adventurer, battle-scarred, superhero, treasure hunter, creature/beast, queer/weirdo/artist. Think about roughed up antique formalwear, think about Victorian muffs, think about telescopes, think about monocles, think about colonialism (have you been on both sides of the coin?), think about capes, think about old-school circus freaks, think about treasure maps. Bring any and all costumes and props you feel inspired to. My costume boxes will be of use as well. Then we will go out into the urban jungle. Posing through the alleyways and parks nearby. This character development might help and inspire you for Part 2 of our journey – the Walkabout Tour tentatively taking place on Sunday
Scores from Lab #1:
1. Start at the construction site across from (east of) Studio Current on the sidewalk on Union. Remember (or imagine) the first time you really came to Capitol Hill. What was the lighting like? Curse or bless this construction project with a short ritual. Walk down 10th how it use to be a haven for nerds and freaks where people played Magic and chess upstairs until late into the night. Turn left on 11th  and turn right on Pike Remember (or imagine) Café Paradiso and 2. Start in front of the construction across from Value Village. Remember how this use to be Play It Again Sports, a creepy, crusty, cluttered second hand sports story across from the shinny new bike shop and how to use to wonder the halls and backrooms looking for weird sporting items or old helmets. What would you hope to find there today. Curse or bless this construction project with a short ritual. Turn right on Pine and then take a left on 12th there even though you would probably never bring your car there. Stop in front of the new, under-construction Capitol Hill Art Center across from Velocity. 3. Start at the Capitol Hill Art Center across from Velocity Remember (or imagine) an offensive performance you saw or were apart of on Capitol Hill, preferably one involving a male standup comedian you had to let perform in order to use a space who told offensive lesbian jokes to you and your hella queer audience. What about Capitol Hill would you like to hear a good joke about? Curse or bless this construction project with a short ritual. Walk down Olive to the park and over to the fountain remembering (or imagining) the first time you walk barefoot on Capitol Hill, 4. Start at the fountain facing the light rail station construction site. Remember (or imagine)when there was a dragon who lived in Cal Anderson and watched over all the punks and hereon addicts who couldn’t seem to pickup after themselves and there was an open air reservoir so you couldn’t go on the North half of the park and there was nothing by real grass. Curse or bless the light rail station construction site with a short ritual. Walk North through the park to 10th Seasons Cleaners. 5. Start at All Seasons Cleaners this future construction site. Remember (or imagine) Broadway at night walking with your father holding hands on your way to a delicious dinner. What movie would you leave them to go see? Curse or bless this future construction site.  and then turn on John, walking west. Stop at All

Sun Square Moon
Torn between different directions in life with feelings going one way and willpower another. A sense of being caught in the middle - forced to choose between surroundings that are emotionally supportive (but not progressive) and new directions that bring advancement but may be at the expense of comfort. Getting these opposing energies to work together requires real compromising skill. It is helpful to see life not as 'black-white' or 'all-or-nothing', but as a complex sliding-scale of varying shades and subtleties.)

NATURAL BORN FLUXUS: An Anthology of Childhood Events by Contemporary Fluxus Artists
Tumblr media
"The sorts of things that delight a Fluxus artist tend to be of an ephemeral nature, contain a humorous element and refer to that mysterious something that makes one laugh at a joke; call it irony or the unexpected twist, Fluxus artists enjoy a good surprise and a clever turn of phrase.  They are willing to remain innocent enough to be easily amused and fall for a good trick" by Cecil Touchon from the Introduction to NATURAL BORN FLUXUS (2008)

WHAT IS COLLAPSIBLE SOUFFLé?
What is a score?  How will we superimpose?  What dreams of home do we have when we are a visitor?  How will we distill? saturate? imbue? embody? Find our way home, out of home, after forgetting?

Quote
the virtuosic and the casual, all treated equally. And the elements can seem to be combined, sequenced, in every possible way: stitched, braided, rammed, shuffled, juxtaposed and---against resolution and limiting definitions but not against dynamic shape. There’s acceleration, crescendos that build to screams.

SHRINKING AWAY
Begin with a walk shrinking your pathway but covering the same distance.  Time is not shrinking.  Space contains as many small crevices as many smallness to contain your tiniest thoughts.  Shrink the landscape
