Welcome to Primal MMA Academy, your family-owned and operated martial arts school in Hickory, NC and the surrounding areas. We are the first Carlos Machodo Jiujitsus affiliate in Hickory. The Machado Method of Brazilian Jiujitsu far exceeds all other methods. The Machado Methods come from the Gracie lineage, however, the technics are more pure to the source than what's currently being taught at most schools. Our MMA trainers and personal trainers can handle all your physical training needs in one place, ensuring that you only need to make one stop for the right equipment, facilities, and education.

Women's Self Defense Class

Our self defense lessons offer a women's only environment for those that can be intimidated or just don't want to train with men. It teaches not only self-defense but self-awareness and motivational skills for daily life. You won't just feel confident with your survival skills in a conflict but also feel empowered through the motivation this can provide. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

Brazilian jiu-jitsu is a type of martial art that involves combat based on ground fighting. At Primal MMA Academy, we offer jiu-jitsu classes to teach students how to use technique and leverage to defend themselves against opponents, especially when their opponent is larger and stronger than them. We have both fundamental classes as well as intermediate to advanced classes. Our MMA trainers emphasize the promotion of physical fitness and building of character, staying true to the spirit of jiu-jitsu.
