"If you've told a child a thousand times, and the child still has not learned, then it is not the child who is the slow learner." - Walter Barbe 1977
When there's an underlying condition that has not been identified and needs are therefore unmet, you can tell a child the same thing a million times and their behavior won't change.
What WILL change their behavior is understanding the root cause and figuring out strategies that will address their underlying unmet needs... then, helping them apply those strategies.
But getting upset because they "aren't listening" is unproductive and will likely lead to increased frustration all around.
Also, as they say... insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.

My latest picture book, Little Gnome’s Christmas Wish, is available internationally in time for Christmas. It’s specially written for kids with #sensoryprocessingdisorder that struggle with the lights, noise and busy-ness of the holidays. We are having a sensory friendly storytelling on the 1st of December, would love to see you there. #spd #spdawareness #sensoryprocessingdisorderparentsupport #sensoryprocessingdisorderawareness #michelleworthington #michelleworthingtonbooks #michelleworthingtonauthor #christmas #christmasbook #picturebook #authorsofinstagram #xmas #littlegnome #booklaunch #authorpreneur (at Twilight Makers Market) https://www.instagram.com/p/B4ev33DA_8E/?igshid=1c8wg3szuhrwf

Added new shirts to the shop. These are especially close to the heart for us with all of Emma’s diagnoses. We have to advocate and fight tooth and nail to ensure she is getting everything she needs to thrive and be the happy baby she is. I may or may not wear these shirts to her appointments because this mommy doesn’t have time for games or the run-around! #advocate #advocatelikeamother #ilovemyspdwarrior #caffeinateandadvocate #specialneedsmom #specialneedsparent #spd #sensoryprocessingdisorder #sensoryseeking #sensoryavoider #developmentallydelayed #visuallyimpaired #ehtmdesigns #customshirts #specialneedsshirt #spdshirt #sensoryprocessingdisordershirt #sensoryprocessingdisorderawareness #specialneedsshop https://www.instagram.com/p/B1HyP4KASLO/?igshid=1gv32lloaesfa

Thank you Tara, YOU are AMAZING 💗 My 12 yr old Son wants to to meet Taylor and with Sensory Processing Disorder, we had to leave concerts many times BUT NOT REP!! He danced ALL night long #1 and was content watching night #2. As a Mom, my heart melted! I have an invisible illness that most don't see or understand - Fibromyalgia & CFS that prevents me from going out much, drive, watch TV or let alone stand in a pit to see Tay up close. Thank you Tara for advocating and suggesting parents with their children who are in this household as well BOTH huge Swifties. I hope you meet Taylor for your 40th birthday in NYC at the concert #51andfangurling #sensoryprocessingdisorderawareness #FibroWarrior #SONGLOVERoutthisFriday
Lover Tour Suggestion
Hey @taylorswift! I am beside myself excited for the next week! Tonight at midnight (I’m assuming) we get the new single, Lover and next week my girls and I will be at GMA to see you perform (their first time seeing you live - they are SO EXCITED) and then Friday we get the album and I’ll be back in NYC to celebrate the album release and my 40th birthday!! All of this excitement has many of us talking about tour and our plans for tour. I know its a little ways off yet but if we know you its probably planned or being planned at this very moment.
I had a thought, and of course this is only a suggestion. I know you love connecting with your fans and you’d better believe we love connecting with you as well. It is our dream to have the opportunity to meet you and thank you for all you’ve done for us and for your music which in many cases provides the soundtrack to our lives. MY dream (and many of my friends, since there are many many Swiftie parents around here) would be to meet you with my daughters. Since they are still fairly young (5 and 7) I realize this would never happen at a Secret Session or something along those lines.
It got me thinking. If you were to bring back some kind of pre-show M&G it would be a great time to meet Swiftie families with younger kids and disabled fans. In terms of children, attending a concert like yours is extremely overwhelming (in a good way) and the sheer excitement of it all can be tiring. Add the late hour and by the end they are exhausted.
Being a physical therapist, I am very aware of the limitations placed on so many who have disabilities. It can be extremely difficult to navigate large crowds in stadiums and their seating options are typically very limited, making it a lot harder to get noticed to be chosen for a post-show M&G. For the disabled the excitement and length of the show itself can be very physically and emotionally draining, some possibly having to leave before the show is over if they are having a bad/difficult day. Having the opportunity to meet you at all would be a huge blessing in itself, but doing so prior to the show would allow them to do so when they are feeling their best and the stadium is easier to navigate. In addition, many of these Swifties use your music as a way to get through the bad days and they have amazing stories of bravery and perseverance that they would love to share with you.
Please know that this is by no means a complaint on behalf of either of these groups or a suggestion that any group of people be excluded from any M&G if you choose to do them. I realize wholeheartedly that the fact that you connect with your fans the way you do is a HUGE BLESSING to this fandom and not anything that anyone is entitled to. I also do not mean to speak on behalf of those who are disabled, the above is what I know due to my profession and some close friends with disabilities. These are simply some thoughts that came to mind that I thought I’d relay as a suggestion for IF you choose to continue the tradition of meeting fans at your shows. I also would like to thank you for being so generous and kind with your time. We all love you so much and can’t wait to see what you have in store on the Lover tour!
Love®,
Tara

Reposted!!! @sensorystoriesbynicole I love this analogy. Our "communication differences" are just that, differences. We speak the same language, just with a different accent. Yet, somehow our accent is considered problematic while the neurotypical version is considered "correct." Make it make sense. Credit: @at_psychologist Tweet transcription: #Autism is like having another native language: I can speak 'neurotypical' (but with an autistic accent) while the neurotypical person isn't even aware of multiple languages. They classify my accent as a disorder, while I'm the only one speaking both languages. #sensorystories #sensorysupport #sensorylife #neurodiversity #neurodiversityacceptance #neurodivergent #neurodiversityawareness #autismawareness #sensoryprocessingdisorder #spdawareness #sensoryprocessingdisorderparentsupport #sensoryprocessingdisorderawareness #autismacceptance #autismawareness #autismsupport #autismeducation #autism #autismspectrum #positiveparenting #momssupportingmoms #parentingtips #positiveparentingtips #positiveparentingstrategies #specialeducation #specialeducationteacher #occupationaltherapy #occupationaltherapist #otforkids https://www.instagram.com/p/CibpXp0ILYe/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
