Remembering Dr. Shriram Lagoo, the renowned film and theatre actor in Hindi and Marathi, on his birth anniversary (16/11/1927).

Shreeram Lagoo started acting in plays while studying medicine. He formed a theater group, "Progressive Dramatic Association," with friends. After getting an ENT surgery degree in Mumbai in the early 1950s, he practiced in Pune for six years and then trained further in Canada and England.

He worked as a doctor in Pune, India, and Tabora, Tanzania in the 1960s but continued acting in India. In 1969, he became a full-time theater actor in Marathi plays, starting with Vasant Kanetkar's play "Ithe Oshalala Mrityu."

Lagoo became famous for his role in the play 'Natsamrat,' written by Kusumagraj (Vishnu Vaman Shirwadkar). He was well-known in Marathi cinema and appeared in successful movies like Sinhasan, Pinjra, and Mukta.

His wife, Deepa Lagoo, is a renowned actress in theater, TV, and films. They had two sons and a daughter. Lagoo created the Tanveer Samman award in memory of his son, given to emerging talents in Indian theater.

Lagoo also had notable performances in Hindi films, often alongside Rajesh Khanna, in movies like Thodisi Bewafai, Maqsad, and Souten. He also excelled in films like Devata, Des Pardes, and Sadma.

He died due to age-related complications." Shriram Lagoo was a well-known personality in Hindi as well as Marathi cinema and theatre. Throughout his career, he directed as well as appeared in several plays and films. He was best known for his performances in the 1977 Hindi film Gharaonda, the 1972 Marathi film Pinjra, the 1980 Marathi film Sinhasan, Thodisi Bewafaii (1980 Hindi film), the 1981 Hindi movie Laawaris and the 1983 iconic film Sadma.In the theatre scenario, he was part of critically acclaimed Marathi plays such as Jagannathacha Rath, Himalayachi Sawali, Premachi Goshta?, Kirwant, Garbo, Aadhe Adhure and Dubhang among others.Apart from acting, Shriram Lagoo was also associated with many social causes. चैतन्य भारत न्यूज हिंदी सिनेमा के जाने माने अभिनेता श्रीराम लागू का लंबी बीमारी के चलते पुणे के दीनानाथ मंगेशकर अस्पताल में निधन हो गया। वह 92 साल के थे। लागू ने ना सिर्फ बॉलीवुड फिल्मों में काम किया बल्कि वे मराठी फिल्मों का भी हिस्सा रहे। (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || ).push({});

लागू के निधन की जानकारी सूचना एंव प्रसारण मंत्री प्रकाश जावडेकर ने ट्वीटर के जरिए दी है। उन्होंने ट्वीट कर बताया कि, 'महान कलाकार श्रीराम लागू को मेरी श्रद्धांजलि। हमने एक बहुमुखी व्यक्तित्व को खो दिया है। अद्वितीय थिएटर अभिनेता ने सिल्वर स्क्रीन पर अपना दबदबा बनाया और प्रभाव पैदा किया। वह एक सामाजिक कार्यकर्ता भी थे।'

बता दें लागू अमिताभ बच्चन की मशहूर फिल्म 'मुकद्दर का सिकंदर' में नजर आए थे। इसके अलावा उन्होंने 'हेरा फेरी', 'घरौंदा', 'मंजिल', 'थोड़ी सी बेवफाई', 'लावारिस', 'श्रीमान श्रीमती', 'विधाता', 'सदमा' और 'इंसाफ की पुकार' जैसी कई फिल्मों में काम किया। लागू ने फिल्म इंडस्ट्री में विभिन्न प्रकार के किरदार अदा किए और वह 100 से भी ज्यादा हिंदी फिल्मों का हिस्सा बनें।
