Memories

The alarm goes off, I snooze it over and over,

My life is not a bustle,

Yet getting out of bed seems like a hustle,

Monotony clings to me and my salwar kameez,

It's white and maroon makes me even more sleepy,

Uniform they call it,

A very fitting name indeed,

I contemplate ironing it,

It's winter time, my jacket hides well,

I decide against it,

I complain how my hair is ruined by braiding them daily,

This should be considered a felony,

Obligation to oil and braid;

Oh boy! I'm late again,

I rush, forgetting all about my value education textbook,

It lays lonely somewhere, waiting to be picked up, dusted off,

I somehow manage to run my way to class,

My last bench and my best friend await me,

There's commotion in the adjoining row,

Nothing surprising, it's a daily affair,

Someone decided to make Maggi today by adding onions to the boiling water,

"Try sticking to debates and studies buddy," I whisper under my breath,

Sky would fall apart if I ever dare say it out loud,

I would have never managed to befriend these people if it wasn't for her,

They are singing and cracking inside jokes now,

Mad, crazy people,

But deep down I know,

Without this adjoining row,

I could never survive on my own,

Bell rings and the day passes between prayers, bickerings, lectures, tests, fights, punishments and silly dances;

I close my eyes and it's the time to say goodbye already,

For the last time we laugh and hug,

I am afraid to let go of this certainity,

This feeling of home,

But it's time,

It's time,

To pack my school uniform and keep it enclosed inside my bed,

To box all the memories,

To miss my monotonous life, ruined braids, forgotten value education textbook, homework, peers, the campus,

The years of anxiety and stress,

Years of coming to my true power,

Bit by bit,

It's time for the realisation to hit,

That time strengthened it's wings each day,

When power surged it flew away,

Hints and clues it left behind,

For me to never go astray,

Move ahead little bird, there's no time left to rewind,

Memories...memories...encased in heart... Nothing else...

Cherished moments...so much learned... Never forget where you came from...

Coconut cream pie! Is one of my childhood favorite pies. A Mountain of fresh cream that wonderful warm taste and smell of toasted coconut - omg it was always such a treat. Truth be told my Italian pie making Mother never made a coconut cream pie in her life. But in the neighbourhood where I grew up and my parents lived for 50 years everyones Mom had a specilty. Thank goodness it took a village of baking stay at home Mom's to expand my palate. This was my favorite Dallas attraction as a kid. I used to always want to come to this park and get on the cows and would try to run through the cemetery next to it because I was scared of it. I would find “secret” shortcuts and cool hiding spots, and hop across the little river. The minute we parked I would just run away and disappear into this park, haha as you can tell this park takes me back. Now that big Omni hotel behind that tree definitely wasn’t there when I was running around here as a kid. #simplerdays (at Pioneer Plaza)
