I stumbled upon a 100% biodegradable phone case from the company pela. They use Flaxstic which is a material made of flax straw and other biomaterials in order to make the phone case. As you can see, each case has a unique grain pattern and it comes in a range of colors. Their company mission is zero-waste from the product, packaging, and to their manufacturing. It’s a family ran business. I chose this specific case because it’s partnered with Save the Waves Coalition. I have always loved the ocean, and hope to live on the coast someday. STW mission is to protect the surf and coastline. They have an app where you can monitor your favorite beaches and report mass pollution. Our oceans are suffering severely from our consumption. Buying products like this phone case will ensure that it will NOT last forever. So, if you’re in the market for a new phone case, these come in a variety of colors and patterns.

How much more convincing do we need? How many more photos do we need to view before we start stepping up to the plate and doing something? we all love taking vacations and doing things such as swimming with dolphins and seeing sea turtles in a snorkel outing… What would you do if that were no longer possible? #makadifference #saveourmajesticocean #floridakeyslife #floridamanatee #youshopwegive #islamorada #youshopwegive #youshopwegiveback #click4good #skipthestraw #click4goodapp #bringyourownbag Go to www.click4good.Org and find out more.. Plastic & red tide: two of the biggest killers of wildlife here. Did you know around 80% of all life in the Gulf of Mexico starts in estuaries? Yet another reason to keep our estuaries clean and productive! 🐟🦀🦈🐡🦐🐬🐠 . . #mylarballoonssuck #redtide #burrfish #beach #conservation #environment #bansingleuseplastic #skipthestraw (at Cape Romano - Ten Thousand Islands Aquatic Preserve)

Who says women of a certain age can’t be on trend? And to @clydes_restaurant ‘s credit, they only provide straws upon request and offered me one only b/c I requested a to-go cup. #skipthestraw #steelstraws (at Chattanooga, Tennessee)

right now we are currently staying with a friend in her home. its hard to change your lifestyle while basically living someone elses. ive been talking about wanting to try to reduce our waste & become a no waste (or minimal at least) family for about 1 full week consistently, but closer to around a year now on & off. i just havent known where to take the first step (i still dont if you want me to be honest) but i think the best place to start is research.
so ive been on google, facebook, tumblr, pinterest & twitter just searching the #nowaste & #saveourplant tags to try to find some kind of guidance. as of now we have bags of chips, water bottles, wipes, diapers & just tons more items with wrappers that will be thrown away.. so for now i will keep using those things, but once i run out i will start buying more reusable items!! my challenge for this week (and forever after that) is that if you are reading this sentence any time you go out to eat, fast food, an actual resturant, your friends house, anywhere... you specifically ask for no straw!
Tumblr media
why start there? well did you know that roughly 500 MILLION straws are used daily? 500 million... if we have 365 days in a year thats 182,500,000,000 straws!! JUST STRAWS!!
Tumblr media
another useful fact: thats only 0.025% of whats polluting our oceans. : (
so again i ask, why start there? can you imagine if just 50 people read this and those 50 people use 1 straw a day, what the numbers would drop down to?
182,499,981,750
then those 50 people get 50 more people on board..
182,499,087,500
anyways, you get the point.. you see the numbers dropping. its our jobs to make those numbers drop! so join me in making our world just one straw less than there was yesterday.
Tumblr media
i just ordered me & cj a set of straws! they were free, just pay shipping! (was like $8) trying to avoid the outside world as much as possible with Covid going on!
https://turtlestalkback.com
theres also plenty of websites that donate a percentage of each purchase to different charities. all up to you which youd like to use! 🙂

All known species of sea turtle ingest or are entangled by plastic in their lifetimes. Aquariums are turning the tide, learn more at www.ourhands.org.

It’s wonderful seeing a big corporation make positive changes. Did you know Marco Island is about 50% water? It doesn’t matter whether you’re beachfront or not, do what you can to stop using plastic’s “big 4” - plastic straws, disposable coffee cups, plastic water bottles, and plastic shopping bags. Way to go @starbucks for taking the first step! Who will be next to get on board? . . . #skipthestraw #saveaturtle strawfreeflorida #aklaststraw #baby #steps #bansingleuseplastic #conservation #ocean #wildlife #bekind #respect #yourhome #planetearth (at Marco Island, Florida)

Day 1534 - I went out with some friends tonight and brought along my reusable straw collection for people to use. Turns out, we decided that we just didn't need straws in the first place! How did you celebrate Earth Day?

What is the one healthy living plan that will help you lose weight, feel better and prevent / possibly treat disease? Tired of taking pills for blood pressure? High cholesterol? Diabetes? Maybe you just want to help the planet? Yes!!! Help our planet!! I’ve been experimenting with a few plant-based recipes. @wholesomeculture ..................................................................................................................................................This one is Chickpea, Spinach, and Corn Salad. I chose to roast the red pepper myself. Simply add some pepper. I personally love garlic powder. Once those were just about ready, I added the defrosted corn, and added more pepper and garlic powder. I chopped up the spinach a little. I also added cherry tomatoes - those I halved. You can use water instead of olive oil. Add a half a teaspoon of tumeric, too! I used low sodium chickpeas; frozen corn; fresh onion, spinach, and red pepper. I encourage anyone cooking to have fun with it! If anything - think “COLOR” I added tomato for more red. I’d I had time, I would roasted some carrots and threw those in there, too! With dishes like this, you have the creative freedom. @wholesomeculture @nutrition_facts_org @michaelgregermd #cooking #cookingisfun #nutritionist #eattherainbow #savetheplanet #skipthestraw #nurses #healthyfood #wholeplantbased #vegetarianrecipes #onenurseonedogoneblog #onenurseonesog (at Maine) https://www.instagram.com/p/B0gGTygAwrm/?igshid=1g4vykd8egi1t

HAPPY JUNE 5TH AKA WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY. (Photo by Paul Chesley)
This is the 45th year of World Environment Day. The host is China and the theme is Air Pollution. The air we breathe is not clean, and some places toxic. Household fuels, Agriculture, Transport and Industry are leading causes of air pollution. Read here to find out more and ways you can help. https://www.worldenvironmentday.global/?bif=2&xv=1
I want to take this chance to post some POSITIVE things happening right now for our Mama Earth. I know so many of us, including myself, are feeling discouraged and hopeless.
1. Coral Reefs in Hawaii are making a COMEBACK
2. The EU government banned several plastics & plastic products
3. Puerto Rico aims to have 100% renewable energy by 2050
4. The hole in the Ozone layer is healing and suspected to fully heal in 50 years! (if we keep on the green change we are doing now)
5. Mountain Gorillas, Humpback Whales, and Pandas are making a comeback from the endangered list thanks to all the hard work from conversationists.
These are just a few-- so many companies, states, and countries are trying to move to sustainable, clean energy. What I'm even happier to see is what WE, are doing. You may think your actions don’t make a difference. You’re wrong because you are a part of a WAVE. The reduced waste, green living, zero waste wave is growing larger and forcing companies to instill ethical & sustainable practices. In a consuming society WE decide what we buy, that’s our voice to companies. If we refuse plastic, and TOXIC products, If we refuse to buy, they have to listen and change their ways to adapt to the times. Make companies adapt to us, and the Earth.
These companies only care about money, well let them know our money is going towards caring for our health and environment.
