Motion Sensor Lights for Home – Smart Lighting by Tijaria Led
Tumblr media
In today’s fast-evolving world of smart home technology, motion sensor lights have become a popular lighting solution for residential spaces. Designed to automatically turn on when motion is detected and turn off when there's no movement, these lights bring convenience, energy savings, safety, and modern elegance into any home.
If you're searching for high-quality motion sensor lights for home, Tijaria LED offers a wide range of intelligent LED lighting products that combine technology, design, and efficiency.
What are Motion Sensor Lights?
Motion sensor lights are automated lighting systems equipped with sensors—typically PIR (Passive Infrared), microwave, or dual-technology sensors—that detect motion in a defined area. When someone enters the sensor’s field, the light automatically illuminates. After a set duration with no movement, it switches off, saving power.
Core Features:
Detects human movement instantly
Turns on/off automatically
Adjustable timer, range, and sensitivity
Ideal for indoor and outdoor home use
Low power consumption
Why Motion Sensor Lights Are Perfect for Homes
Motion sensor LED lights offer more than just automation—they elevate your home’s functionality, security, and energy efficiency.
Benefits of Using Motion Sensor Lights at Home:
Energy Saving Motion-activated lights reduce electricity waste by operating only when needed. Perfect for homes with kids or forgetful members who often leave lights on.
Enhanced Security Lights that turn on with movement act as a deterrent for intruders and increase outdoor visibility during night hours.
Convenience No need to fumble for switches in dark areas like hallways, garages, or bathrooms. These lights operate hands-free.
Smart Home Integration Modern motion sensor lights can be integrated with home automation systems for voice, remote, or app-based control.
Long Lifespan Since the lights turn on only when required, they enjoy extended operational life, reducing replacement frequency.
Common Areas Where Motion Sensor Lights Are Used in Homes
Tijaria Led offers motion sensor lighting solutions suitable for multiple locations within your home:

How Secure Is Your Garage Door? Tips to Keep Intruders Out
When most homeowners think about home security, they focus on doors, windows, and alarm systems—but often forget one of the most vulnerable entry points: the garage door. Whether attached or detached, your garage can be a target for thieves looking for easy access to your home or valuables.
If you’re wondering how secure your garage door really is, here are practical tips to tighten security and keep intruders out.
1. Keep Your Garage Door Opener Out of Sight
Never leave your remote clipped to your car visor. It’s like leaving a house key in plain sight. Instead, keep it on your keychain or use a smart garage door opener that connects to your smartphone.
2. Upgrade to a Smart Garage Door Opener
Smart garage door systems allow you to monitor, open, or close your garage from anywhere using an app. Many also send real-time alerts if your door is opened unexpectedly. If your opener is over 10 years old, upgrading may be a smart (and secure) move.
3. Reinforce the Emergency Release
Thieves know how to exploit the emergency release cord to manually open the door from the outside—especially on older models. A simple solution is to secure the release with a zip tie or install a shield to block access, without disabling the safety function.
4. Install Motion-Activated Lighting
A well-lit garage is a great deterrent. Install motion-sensor lights near your garage entrance or driveway. Intruders hate being seen and will likely move on if they feel exposed.
5. Always Lock the Interior Door
If your garage is attached to your home, don’t forget to lock the door that connects them. Use a deadbolt or smart lock, just like you would on your front door.
6. Schedule Regular Inspections
Even the strongest door won’t keep intruders out if the parts are failing. Loose tracks, broken locks, or malfunctioning openers can all compromise your security. That’s why homeowners should schedule regular maintenance with a trusted professional. If you’re local, a garage door repair West Palm Beach service can inspect and reinforce your system for peace of mind.
Final Thoughts
Your garage door is more than just a convenience—it’s a security barrier. Taking a few simple precautions can make a big difference in keeping your home and family safe. From tech upgrades to routine checks, every step helps.
If you’re unsure about the condition or safety of your garage door, contact a certified garage door repair West Palm Beach technician to assess your setup and recommend improvements. Don’t wait until something goes wrong to take action.

Motion Sensor Bulb
What is a Motion Sensor Bulb?
A motion sensor bulb is a special type of lighting that uses motion-detection technology to automatically turn on and off. When movement is detected within a specific range, the bulb lights up, and after a set period of inactivity, it turns off by itself. This feature is particularly useful in places like hallways, stairwells, garages, basements, and even outdoor spaces where you may need light temporarily.
How Does a Motion Sensor Bulb Work?
Motion sensor bulbs contain small sensors that detect movement within a certain range, usually about 10 to 15 feet. When the sensor detects motion, it signals the bulb to turn on. After a set period with no detected movement, the bulb turns off automatically. This feature is especially handy in areas like garages, basements, hallways, and patios where you don’t want the light on all the time.
Different Types of ESYSENSE Motion Sensor Bulbs
1. ESYSENSE 7W Motion Sensor Bulb
The 7W motion sensor bulb by ESYSENSE is energy-efficient, using only 7 watts to provide bright light. It’s ideal for smaller spaces like bathrooms, closets, or hallways, where you need quick lighting that doesn’t consume much energy. This bulb also features the motion sensor auto on/off function, meaning it lights up when it detects motion and shuts off automatically when it’s no longer needed. This feature helps save energy and makes it perfect for spaces where lights are often left on accidentally.
2. Radar Motion Sensor Bulb
The radar motion sensor bulb is one of the most advanced bulbs in the ESYSENSE range. Unlike standard motion sensors, radar sensors can detect movement through thin walls or glass, which makes them perfect for larger spaces like garages, driveways, or outdoor areas. Radar technology is also more sensitive, so it can even pick up small movements, ensuring that the light comes on as soon as you need it.
3. LED Motion Sensor Bulb
If you’re looking for an energy-efficient and long-lasting option, the LED motion sensor bulb is a fantastic choice. LED lights use less electricity than traditional bulbs and can last up to 25,000 hours. With this type of bulb, you get bright light and energy savings without needing frequent replacements. Combining LED technology with motion sensing makes these bulbs eco-friendly and cost-effective.
Why Choose a Smart Motion Sensor Bulb?
ESYSENSE's smart motion sensor bulb is ideal for people who desire simple, contemporary lighting control. You have more control over when and how the light turns on thanks to this bulb's smart settings, which let you change the motion sensor's sensitivity, timing, and brightness. In areas like garages or entryways where you desire more specialised lighting options, this easy fix can have a significant impact.
Auto On/Off Bulb by ESYSENSE: Making Life Easier
The auto on/off bulb feature in ESYSENSE’s motion sensor bulbs means that you never have to think about turning the lights on or off. Whether it’s nighttime or a rainy day, these bulbs turn on as soon as you step into the room or space and turn off automatically when you leave. This feature not only saves energy but also adds security to your home by keeping dark areas lit when needed.
Benefits of Using ESYSENSE Motion Sensor Bulbs
Using motion sensor bulbs has many benefits:
Convenience: No more fumbling in the dark looking for a light switch. Motion sensor bulbs turn on instantly when they detect movement, making it easy to enter and exit rooms without hassle.
Energy Savings: Your electricity expenses will go down because the light only turns on when it's needed. Considering how energy-efficient LED motion sensor lamps are, this is particularly true.
Tumblr media
Safety and Security: By providing quick lighting in places like driveways, entryways, and staircases, motion sensor bulbs help reduce the risk of accidents. Additionally, by lighting up as someone approaches, they can serve as a deterrent to invaders.
Long Lifespan: You won't need to change ESYSENSE's LED motion sensor bulbs very frequently because they last a long time. Over time, this lowers waste and saves money.
Eco-Friendly: These bulbs are a more environmentally friendly option for lighting because they consume less energy and last longer.
Ideal Places for Motion Sensor Bulbs
Motion sensor bulbs are incredibly versatile and can be used in a variety of indoor and outdoor locations:
Hallways and Stairways: Perfect for lighting up as you pass through, making nighttime navigation safer.
Garages and Driveways: Motion sensor bulbs automatically light up as soon as you arrive, whether by car or on foot.
Bathrooms and Closets: Ideal for areas where lights are often left on by accident.
Front and Back Doors: Provides immediate light when you approach, making it easier to see your way at night.
Storage Areas and Basements: Ensures you have light when you need it, without requiring you to remember to turn it off.
Tumblr media
How to Set Up a Motion Sensor Bulb
Setting up a motion sensor bulb is straightforward. Simply screw the bulb into any standard socket, and it’s ready to work. If it’s a smart bulb, follow the instructions to connect it to any apps or smart home devices. Once installed, the bulb will start detecting motion and turning on automatically.
Some bulbs, especially smart models, allow you to adjust settings such as motion sensitivity and how long the light stays on after detecting movement. Customizing these options lets you tailor the bulb’s performance to your preferences.
Why Pick a Bulb with Motion Sensors?
Selecting a motion sensor light bulb combines cost savings, security, and comfort. They're a fantastic option for any home for the following reasons:
Automatic Lighting: The ease of having lights that operate without the need for switches.
Cost and Energy Savings: These bulbs assist the environment and reduce energy costs with features like motion sensing and LED technology.
Long-Lasting Performance: LED motion sensor lights require fewer replacements because they last for years.
Extra Security: By unexpectedly lighting up and offering visibility in dimly lit locations, this is perfect for discouraging burglars.
In conclusion
Motion sensor bulbs are a better and more energy-efficient option for lighting your house. There is a motion sensor bulb to meet any demand, including the long-lasting LED motion sensor bulb, the radar motion sensor bulb for vast spaces, and the 7W motion sensor bulb for energy savings. Your house can become safer, more efficient, and brighter with the extra flexibility of a smart motion sensor bulb or the ease of a motion sensor auto on/off bulb.
Why wait, then? Take advantage of lighting that works for you rather than the other way around by switching to auto-on/off bulbs now! Whether you want to improve security with outside sensors, add convenient lighting to your home's entryways, or just take advantage of the hands-free convenience of motion-detected lights, motion sensor bulbs provide a solution for every room and outdoor space.

Preventing Break-Ins: Essential Security Measures for Homeowners
Tumblr media
Home security is a top priority for homeowners, and with good reason. Break-ins can be traumatic experiences, resulting in loss of valuables, damage to property, and a sense of violation. However, with the right security measures in place, homeowners can significantly reduce the risk of break-ins. In this article, we will explore essential security measures that homeowners can implement to protect their property and loved ones from burglaries.
Assess Vulnerabilities:
The first step in preventing break-ins is to assess the vulnerabilities of your home. Walk around your property and identify potential entry points such as doors, windows, and garage doors. Pay attention to areas that are hidden from view, poorly lit, or easily accessible. By understanding your home’s weak points, you can take targeted action to reinforce security where it’s needed most.
Install High-Quality Locks:
Strong, durable locks are a homeowner’s first line of defense against break-ins. Invest in high-quality deadbolt locks for exterior doors, as they provide superior resistance to forced entry. Consider upgrading to smart locks, which offer advanced security features such as keyless entry, remote access, and activity logs. Don’t forget to secure windows with locks or secondary locking devices to prevent intruders from gaining access through them.
Illuminate Your Property:
A well-lit home is less attractive to burglars, as they prefer to operate under the cover of darkness. Install motion-sensor lights around the perimeter of your property to deter intruders and illuminate dark areas. Consider adding timer-controlled lights indoors to give the impression that someone is home, even when you’re away. Lighting not only enhances security but also increases visibility, making it easier to spot suspicious activity. Read more at: Preventing Break-Ins: Essential Security Measures for Homeowners

Part One: Stalker!Anakin Skywalker x femme reader series
Warnings: stalking, weirdo behavior, psychotic/delusional behavior, possessive/protective, sexism/misogyny, one-sided relationship [eventual warning for smut; be sure to pay attention to future warnings in the series]
Info: Anakin loves you so much it hurts, he just really wants to make sure your silly little girl brain doesn’t get in the way of your safety, you have a cat, Anakin is a bartender [diary entries from Ani’s perspective] MDNI 18+
Tumblr media
Diary Entry: May 2nd
The Cerulean was filled with loud music, flashing lights, and the stench of sweaty guys and spilt beer. Over-kill perfume on the girls who so desperately wanted my attention, writing their numbers on their drink coasters after finishing their stupid little cocktail. The occasional ‘break it up guys, c’mon’ yelled out at a pair of ‘roided up college boys. Peanut shells stuck to my sneakers at the end of the night, going home and washing off the stickiness from working behind the bar.
All things I was used to.
But you… not you. Every time I caught a glimpse of you tonight it was like the first time all over again.
Pink, skirt, sneakers, crop top. Such a cute little outfit; it made you easy to spot, easy to track, easy to watch over.
I have your drink order memorized. I so hoped you’d come back for another so I could hear your voice, to see your pretty little lips move just for me again. But you didn’t. Because you’re a smart girl. You knew that without a man around to look out for you, you’d be pretty hopeless if you got too tipsy. It only made me want to protect you more. You’re too soft, too sweet, too innocent to worry about the big nasty world around you.
That’s my job now.
I’ll always keep you safe, but I also want to keep you happy. You deserve the world and more, and I’ll give it to you.
I’d destroy the earth to build it up again in your design. I’d live for you, serve you, die for you, at any moment you might ask. Just say the word and I will. I promise I will.

Date:
May 23rd
Anakin walked a safe distance behind you, his hands in his hoodie pocket, his hood up and head down. It was dark out, the only light was from the street lamps.
Sometimes when he walked you home he just wanted to run up and grab you by the shoulders and shake you; ask you to please for once just pay attention to your surroundings.
You walked around with your headphones in, ignoring everything and everyone. Yeah it was a straight shot to your apartment from the bar. Only having to cross the road once during the mile long journey down the sidewalk. But a mile was a good stretch of space and there were plenty of people who passed you. A handful of creepy, unlit alleyways you could be dragged into.
You were practically asking for it.
He just had to remind himself that this was just another reason you were so lucky to have him. He’d watch over you, so you didn’t have to worry your pretty little head about nothin’.
Anakin stood by the corner store dumpster and watched as you trotted up the steps and tapped the door code into the keypad of your apartment building. After the door shut behind you and he saw the keypad flash red, he knew you were safely locked inside.
It took approximately one minute and 14 seconds for you to jog up the steps to your door, depending on how tired you were he could add a few seconds and not worry. But anything over 20 seconds had him sweating in a panic.
Tonight though you were right on time, his phone pinged with an alert that your door had been opened, and successfully shut behind you. Now he could breathe a sigh of relief and make his way back to work.
His boss was kind enough to never question why he skipped out for about 20 minutes a night or two a week. Anakin smoked, it wasn’t unlikely to assume he just got a little distracted scrolling on his phone during his smoke break or maybe just needed a few minutes of peace.
Now all he had to do was suffer through three more hours of monotonous work and try not get a head start on his hearing loss from the shitty music.
Then he could go home to you.
The cloak of stress he wore when you were out of sight vanished quickly when he perched on the fire escape and peered into your living room. Poor thing. You’d fallen asleep on the couch again.
Not that he minded. It made his night that much better when he could sit closer to you. It was a pain to climb the ladder of the building next door and sit on the rooftop so he could see into your bedroom window. Very inconvenient, but worth it everytime.
He sat quietly, observing you and the way your lips twitched while you slept, as though you were having a conversation with someone in your dreams. Probably him, he thought.
“Oh, your blanket… you’re gonna be cold if you keep squirming around like that, your blanket is gonna end up in the floor.”
His fingers itched to pry open the window and tuck you back in, but he didn’t. He promised himself he wouldn’t do that. No breaking and entering.
He decided it was time to head back to his own home after that, he couldn’t stay much longer without: a) falling asleep b) forcing his way into your apartment for the sake of keeping you warm.
So he trekked to the sidewalk, wiping off the rust stains on his palms from the old metal fire escape. Shoving his hands back into his hoodie pocket after blowing you a goodnight kiss.
Tumblr media
Diary Entry: June 6th
You owe me big time young lady.
You left your door unlocked and your window cracked open. It is 3:00am, what if someone snuck in? Then what would I do?
Die probably. I’d probably die if something happened to you.
Therefore, I bit the bullet and helped you out. I’m lucky you’re a heavy sleeper and I’m not easy to startle or else we both would’ve had a big scare tonight.
I cracked open your window, slipped in quietly, lowered it behind me, locked it. Double checked it and then triple checked it just in case.
When I turned around- christ that fucking cat. I swear I saw my life flash before my eyes. Guard dog? Who needs a guard dog when you’ve got that monster running around?
A quick blur of orange and a loud *reeeareow* was the only warning before it- sorry, Boogie, climbed up my leg with her little pitchfork claws. I handled it well, you’d be proud. I picked her up by the scruff and gave her a light bop on the noggin’ just like you do when she’s in trouble; except I didn’t kiss it better afterwards, I think she would’ve eaten me if I tried that.
Any-who, I carried her with me to the kitchen and got her a little treat from the cutesy kitten jar on the countertop. Then she decided we could be friends or well… maybe or maybe not I don’t really know, I guess we’ll see.
I plucked your spare key from the top of the fridge and quietly left your apartment. I locked the door and checked it several times, just in case.
As I walked down the steps I saw that the super was kind enough to leave a reminder that the keypad code had been changed, how nice of him! You are awfully forgetful sometimes. No worries princess I took a picture for safe keeping.
I need to change the batteries on or door sensors soon anyway, those little button batteries don’t last very long you know.
It was only when I got home that I realized I still had your spare key… tsk tsk Anakin. Ah well, that just means it won’t fall into the hands of someone it shouldn’t. I’ll keep it safe.
I love you 🖤

Diary Entry: June 7th
You know, come to think of it. Now that I have a key I should get a few new items for your apartment, that way I can keep an eye on things for you while you’re away.

cw: stalking, obsessive behavior, voyeurism, hector generally being a freak Reed's life is charmed by the wonders of modern technology. Automated smart functions seem to learn their every move, schedule, and desire. It’s almost as if a guardian angel is looking out for them. A superstitious, but not unwelcome, thought.
The only complaint they have are the security cameras, and the countless clips of themself they don't remember saving...
Reed regards the rainbow welcome mat under their feet impassively. Welcome! It screams in a riot of cheerful, optimistic color. It could stay, they suppose. It was a little friendlier than they really felt, though. They wave the key fob over the apartment door and it unlocks with a commercialized jingle, a sound designed to be pleasant but which will surely become grating within a week. The apartment itself is exactly what they were imagining. Lovely, at first glance, but painfully artificial under any real scrutiny. The air smells like new carpet, a faint, lemony cleaning solution, and new paint. The universal scent of uninhabited.
A large, brandless tv sits in the middle of the living room, a pristine popcorn bowl for decoration only on the coffee table. A sanitized staging of the concept of living. The mattress is thin, the plates and bowls are all an atrocious lime green that pops in the cabinet the way an interior designer would love, but will make any real food look anemic. Generic, abstract wall art keeps the place from feeling like a prison, at least. A large floor-length mirrored closet door in the bedroom feels a little suggestive for a clean, corporate unit, but there it is, reflecting the empty room back at them.
The closet has a couple generic white button ups hanging on two of the five total provided hangers. The bathroom mirror is defaced with a small decal in the corner “Hello, gorgeous!”. Reed snorts, their reflection unimpressed. The couch is stiff and angled down, as if it can't wait for you to go.
And then there’s the smart features. Reed was given the spiel about Validivia’s top-of-the-line housing: premier security features and an expansive internet of things. Sensors, monitors, and bluetooth connections on anything and everything you could think of. Even the tub could be turned on and the water temperature maintained from halfway around the globe. There was a camera in every room except the bathrooms, including one built into the fridge itself that looked in on its contents. Sensors on every window and door notified them if they were open or not and motion sensors and timers in every room controlled the lights. Even just walking around and taking in the surroundings, their tv automatically switched on, showing a muted, high-saturation slide show of the property.
It certainly felt expensive, but there were spots that rubbed like a pair of designer shoes. Fine to show off, but could they bear to be here for long? They didn’t have much of a choice, and it beat having to search for an apartment and living on an air mattress until they could afford anything else. Reed has a bad habit of making impulsive cross country moves when things get boring, but after the third time they hopped into their mid-size SUV and took to the road with nothing but their bags, it lost its appeal. This last trip stopped feeling spontaneous and free spirited about halfway through. No, this most recent move felt freeing only on the late night drives. Once the sun had come back up and they were here, well, it turned out to still be the same life in a different apartment.
For practicality’s sake though, Reed is grateful, really. And so is their bank account. Which is also why they still have to clock in for the better part of their move-in day. Their suitcase is deposited in the bedroom and their laptop perched in its spot of honor on their desk. A small framed photo of a pug that looks suspiciously AI generated is promptly shoved into a drawer.
Reed is greeted by a flood of messages from the new guy. He had been hired at nearly the same time, but where Reed could easily figure out the honestly simple functions of a middle management position, their subordinate, Martin, always seems to be lost and in distress. Sometimes he sends streams of barely comprehensible IM’s. This time, as Reed sinks back into their flimsy office chair, it seems that he has ranted himself all the way to a solution all on his own. They huff a life and a smile,
Great job! It looks like you’ve really got a handle on it.
Office speak. It’s easy. Boring. Safe. About as interesting as the AI pug hidden in their desk. Reed is very good at it. It makes the person that drove overnight to get here with the windows down and the air whipping their hair around cringe, but hey, that’s life.
After a few hours of following up, circling back, and scheduling a power hour for next week, the clock rolled over to 4:30 pm and they pushed back from the desk with a groan. The chair was hell. Reed twists themselves left and right and stretches when they stand, their spine popping in protest. It would just have to be an adjustment because they can’t afford to upgrade it anytime soon.
It only takes a few weeks for Reed’s furnished life to work itself into a comfortable, numbing groove. They even begin to find things about the apartment that they enjoy. The AC is incredibly consistent, for one. They knew that there are thermostats out there now that could change on a clock or learn your schedule, but this one has picked up on their habits scarily fast. It also seems to automatically adjust to the odd scorcher of a day without them even having to lift a finger. Their window sensors also learned that they like to open them in the afternoon, just to keep the place from getting too stuffy, and if they don’t get to it in time the home app rings its little bell at them.
The list of niceties goes on. When they run low on coffee creamer, the screen on the fridge populates a virtual sticky note with the warning. Holidays would approach and the sticky notes’ little AI personality would recommend turkey, calling their mother, and taking time to rest. It feels strangely personal for corporate attempts at familiarity, but the reminders are helpful. Maintenance always seems to show up just on time to change air filters, check the fire extinguishers, and clean the windows. The automatic vacuum robot has stopped running first thing in the morning, when Reed is hosting their team meetings, after just one cancelled run. After that, it started to wake itself up at noon, when they take their lunch break, instead. For someone who works at home, these little tasks being automated and lifted from their mental load is, as dramatic as it sounds, freeing. It’s almost as if a guardian angel is looking out for them. A superstitious, but not unwelcome, thought.
The only complaint they have are the security cameras. Every now and then they’d send phantom notifications. Their app will light up, but when they open it, it’s gone. The streams are always low quality to the point of pixelation, if they don’t just freeze and jump completely. Tapping into the settings reveals the likely culprit. The cloud storage seems to have countless clips. None more than 15 minutes or so, and none that are too embarrassing, thank goodness. Just scrolling through the thumbnails reveals that they go back to when Reed first moved in and were likely an auto clipping feature that bugged. A couple catches their eye, and after patiently sitting through the lag, they’re able to watch a few.
3 minutes long, in the evening: Reed is dusting the apartment with music blasting over the sound system. They’re singing along where they know the words, making up the lyrics where they didn’t, and sounding awful the entire time.
5 minutes, morning. Reed doesn’t see anything at all. When they turn their volume up, they realize they must be in the bathroom and getting ready for the day. A place none of the cameras can see. They hear their own voice echoing down the hall. “No, mom - I know. I know. I don’t know what I’m waiting on either. If you’re so worried about it, why don’t you just pick someone out for me, hm? I’m sure they’ll be perfect. No, really. Go ahead.”
They cringe at this memory, snapping at their mom for asking why they were still single. It wasn’t fair to ask, but it wasn’t fair for them to talk to her like this, either. They move, unable to bear the rest of that conversation, but wonder they wonder why this one was clipped. The rest look like they may have been triggered by motion, but this one only features a perfectly still room. Perhaps the windows were being blown around?
15 minutes, also in the evening, just the day after: They’re making pancakes for dinner, leaning close to the edge of the pan to pick the edge of the pancake up just enough to check if it was done on the underside before flipping it. They’re mumbling to themselves.
“Just one date, ya know? You could do it. It’s been ages, but you’re not old tech. Dating is dating. They didn’t come up with new rules while you’ve been out, and if they did, you’ll just have to find somebody that’s outdated, too…”
Also Embarrassing, but could be worse. Odd that it happens to be the perfect continuation from the last clip, too.
The rest seem to be other innocuous moments in their life. Crying during a movie. Reading a book with the windows open, leaning their head back when the clouds parted and the sun landed on them. That night they started and abandoned learning origami. They’re… sweet. Oddly. Like the most mundane and boring scrapbook. Each video seems so intentional. The more they look at the ends and beginnings of each they feel a flicker of something uncomfortable, a sense of being perceived pricks at them. They glance up to their living room camera, feeling another chill before dismissing the feeling.
They chastise themselves for being paranoid and tell themselves to be thankful for this. It would be a shame to delete them all. They compromise on finding a way to offload them onto another hard drive or something. Not like they need to watch the cameras when they are home all the time, anyway.
Another surprise of their new life: in all of its supercorp moral complexity, a gift from Valdivia. They had never worked for a company that even pretended to be concerned about their employees before. After a visit to the office, Reed complains off-handedly about how awful their desk chair is at home, adding, “and the damn cameras. They’re basically useless.” Their team sympathizes with the chair, saying many of the ones in the office itself are similar. While they discuss the adrenaline pumping hoys of corporate furniture, their manager, Celia, passes them a sticky note with a phone number that just says “Security”.
“It’s been on my desk since I started oh, I don’t know, five years ago or so?” she explains with a shrug. “I don’t even know if that number goes anywhere anymore, but it’s worth checking. Maybe they can help you out with your cameras. I’ve never had an issue with mine, but you know, those have been in that building for god knows how long. Oh, and about that chair. You know how Validivia is, sometimes things just... show up. Good luck with it.” She gives a warm, if quick, smile and wishes the team a good evening.
True enough, within the next couple of weeks Reed’s doorbell chimes and their phone lights up with the stream from the front door’s camera. The view was completely obscured by a box with a scuffed black and white photo of a high backed office chair printed on the exterior. It was heavy, and takes some time to put together, but is worth every stripped screw and pinched finger. The high back and leather held them as if apologizing for how that other, awful, low down mesh chair had treated them. Maintenance even comes by the very next morning to pick up the old one.
And things are, more or less, fine. A year went by. Two. The rainbow welcome mat out front had faded to a grungy sort of pastel with time and dust. They stop texting the friends from the last town they had lived in. They barely start texting new ones in this town. Their ex finally stops calling them, and their mom has given up on her matchmaking efforts. They consider getting a cat, but feel that staying cramped in this apartment all day for the rest of its life would be cruel. No, better they get adopted by a family with a yard, or a fancy catio. Reed worries for nothing, but they don’t get excited for anything, either. Work never has any complications outside of the minorly irritating, and even those always seem to simply fix themselves without much added effort.
And that’s exactly what grates them. This quiet, lonely little routine they felt married to. It was always hard to make friends in a new town, but Reed struggles to even want to try. A couple outings with coworkers, sure. They’re always so controlled and stiff. Tongue in cheek jokes about getting soooo out of control off of the standard 1.5 drinks. Hobby groups could be a solution, but that’s not really who they are, is it? Someone who plays boardgames willingly or wakes up at 6:00 am on the weekday to fit int he perfect hike. No, none of that tempts them at all.
That itch is coming back. It tells them to send out resumes, to throw caution to the wind, to pick up and just… leave. They could take to the road again and… then what? Fourth time’s the charm? They make good money here, their apartment is affordable for what it is and has amazing features, and no matter where they go, there they would be. Bored and alone. Again. Weekends come and go and they realize they never once left their apartment. They only have themselves to blame when they are eating dinner alone, again.
It doesn’t seem right to muss the table settings just for themselves. They stand at the kitchen counter, only the quiet clink of their fork on the plate and the hum of the AC making noise. They scroll through their phone, mindlessly clearing out old photos. For the past two years they had been painfully practical. Log in, photos of their license and insurance cards. Their license plate. A screenshot of a plate set that wasn’t lime green that they considered buying, and then forgot to. They came by one of a sticky note. “Security.” And a phone number. Oh yeah. Two years ago? No telling how bad that cloud storage is now. Oh well. No better time than the present. They bite their fork between their teeth to free their other hand and plug the number into their phone and type.
Hey, you got a minute?
They switch apps, finish their dinner, and while drying the same plate they use everyday hear their phone vibrate.
How did you get this number?
From my sup, Celia. She said I should reach out about issues with my security cameras?
Do you have any idea what you're doing?
The words feel sharp and accusatory. Reed’s stomach tightened, but they know how to be professional.
My apologies! Is this the emergency line? If you give me your main office number and hours I’ll follow up with them tomorrow.
The typing bubble appears, disappears, then appears again. It moves for a long, long time. Reed puts their phone down, annoyed and ready to forget the whole thing. Just as they turn to walk away, it vibrates again.
Wait.
Okay, fine. Reed stops, sends another brief message, and waits.
Standing by.
Another long pause.
You can message this number. But not tonight. Not like this. We will talk tomorrow, I’ll be ready then.
Reed reads the last text, then reads it again. Not like this? Must be an after hours thing. Would the same person still be working tomorrow morning? That’s a hell of a shift. Then again, maybe it was just some weirdo and the number had been changed long ago.
By the time Reed makes it to bed, they notice the lights in the bathroom and kitchen are still on. Weird, they normally turn themselves off by now. Right as they were planning to ask about their cameras, too. Reed gets back up and walks barefoot across the apartment to shut them off themselves, trying to not feel terribly spoiled by the inconvenience.
When they finally laid down again, they reread the strange message one last time, the words glowing pallid and blue in the dark. A feeling they didn’t want to name, not fear really, but a deep and unsettling curiosity settles over them. Before they can follow this, the first interesting thing to happen in their life in two years, a chill overtakes them as the temperature begins to drop. They set their phone on its wireless charger and pull their blankets higher up to their chin, putting it out of their mind for the evening.
