NASA and ESA's Solar Orbiter has captured the first-ever detailed images of the Sun’s polar regions, revealing complex magnetic structures as solar activity nears its 11-year peak. These insights may transform our understanding of solar winds and space weather. Meanwhile, NOAA has issued a G2-level geomagnetic storm watch through June 14, 2025, potentially allowing auroras to be seen in parts of North America and Europe.New Scientists Awards 4th Edition of New Scientists Awards | 25-26 June 2025 | Dubai, United Arab EmiratesNomination Link: https://newscientists.net/award-nomination/?ecategory=Awards&rcategory=Awardee Web Visitors: https://newscientists.net/ For Enquiry: [email protected] #sciencefather #scientist #scienceinnovation #researchexcellence #scientificbreakthrough #NewScientistsAwards #SolarOrbiter #NASA #ESA #SunPoles #SpaceWeather #SolarStorm #AuroraBorealis #GeomagneticStorm #SunActivity #Astrophysics #AuroraAlert #SolarCycle25 #NorthernLights Get Connected Here: ================= You Tube: https://www.youtube.com/@scienceawards-i6o Twitter: https://x.com/awards67811 Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/afreen202564/ blogger: https://www.blogger.com/blog/posts/8014336030053733629?hl=en&tab=jjPinterest: https://in.pinterest.com/scienceawards/

The Suns Secret | Next Solar Cycle Detected Early
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-WJPSHBs2vY The Sun's current solar cycle, Cycle 25, is at its peak, but scientists have already detected the first signs of the next cycle, Cycle 26, using sound waves deep within the Sun. In this video, we explore how researchers from the University of Birmingham identified these early rumblings and what this means for our understanding of solar activity. Discover how this breakthrough could impact our predictions of sunspots, solar flares, and coronal mass ejections, which have direct effects on Earth. Just about an hour ago, [sunspot group 5390 ](https://www.spaceweatherlive.com/en/solar-activity/sunspot-regions.html) blasted off an [X6.3 class sokar flare](https://www.spaceweatherlive.com/en/news/view/524/20240222-x6-3-solar-flare.html), shortly after [two smaller, but still X-class flares (X1.7 and X1.38)](https://blogs.nasa.gov/solarcycle25/2024/02/22/sun-releases-two-strong-flares/)!

Hopefully this latest, and largest X-class flare triggers a decent [coronal mass ejection](https://www.spaceweatherlive.com/en/help.html#cme) that triggers aurora here on Earth! We haven’t had that many great auroral displays yet from our sun compared with past solar maximums, but the sun is really ramping it up, with sunspot groups that are really huge (hundreds of Earths could fit inside) and complicated, and therefore blasting off more and more X-class flares! BREAKING NEWS: NASA Predicts Solar Cycle 25 Weakest in Last 200 Years
The forecast for the next solar cycle says it will be the weakest of the last 200 years. Research now underway has found a more reliable new method to predict this space weather. The maximum of this next cycle - measured in terms of sunspot numbers, could be 30 to 50% lower than the most recent one - Cycle 24. The results show the next cycle will start in 2020 and reach its maximum in 2025.
The new research was led by Irina Kitiashvili, a researcher with the Bay Area Environmental Research Institute at NASA's Ames Research Center, in California's Silicon Valley. It combined observations from two NASA space missions; Solar and Heliospheric Observatory and the Solar Dynamics Observatory with data collected since 1976 from the ground-based National Solar Observatory.
One challenge for researchers working to predict the Sun's activities is that scientists do not yet completely understand the inner workings of our star. Some factors that play out deep inside the Sun cannot be measured directly. They have to be estimated from measurements of related phenomena on the solar surface like sunspots, coronal holes and filaments. Kitiashvili's method differs from other prediction tools in terms of the raw material for its forecast. Previously, researchers used the number of sunspots to represent indirectly the activity of the solar magnetic field. The new approach takes advantage of direct observations of magnetic fields emerging on the surface of the Sun.
NASA has been assigned to procure American astronauts to the Moon in the next five years with a landing on the lunar South Pole. With a calm and quiet space weather forecast for the coming decade, it is a great time to explore. _______________ Science Of Cycles keeps you tuned-in and knowledgeable of what we are discovering, and how some of these changes will affect our communities and ways of living.

In the most intense solar activity of 2025, the Sun released a powerful X2.7-class flare from sunspot AR4087 on May 14, following an X1.2 flare from AR4086. These flares caused widespread radio blackouts across multiple continents by overionizing the Earth's ionosphere. A coronal mass ejection (CME) linked to the X2.7 flare is headed toward Mars, potentially creating rare auroras on May 18. Although Earth avoided a direct hit this time, NOAA warns of continued solar activity and possible future impacts.
