I love the movie for that.

Look at that trauma response. He's so tired of having to put up with bullshit. They all are.

(The second best thing was the introduction of eye colors into the franchise. 2007 Mikey was given baby blue eyes to set him apart as innocent and youthful, while the other three had brown or gold. In the final season of 2003, which aired after the film, the turtles all got green irises specifically inspired by 2007.

Fanfiction writers started giving Raphael golden or amber eyes while making Mikey's eyes blue. That became a kind of unspoken rule for 2003 fanfics. Donnie had coffee brown or chocolate or hazel eyes. Leo was given dark brown or even gray eyes.

When the 2012 cartoon came around, that's when things really ramped up with fanfiction and eye colors.)

Where are the 2007 Mikey fans? I'm working on a fic. It's angsty and bloody and fluffy and full of the whole family apologizing to each other and reflecting on Splinter's canon death. and I want to ask people questions, because every fan has different thoughts that somehow run into each other because we're Mikey fans.

(Splinter would have been dead by that sequel that never happened)

I found what might be one of the last physical copies on Amazon. Can't buy it til next weekend but that's my birthday anyway.

I prefer the book over the movie. Nobody really talks about it. 2007 tmnt had a book to go with the movie. The book is actually really well written. It allows you to read the turtles and splinter and Aprils internal thoughts throughout it all and I find myself actually empathising with Leo and his thoughts. The movie didn’t find a clever way to project Leo and Raph’s thoughts to the audience without internal monologues, so you end up thinking Leo is a complete idiot and Raph is just this angry hooligan. They communicate to each other better in the book too but still are arguing through most of the book. They’re both brain dead in communication in the movie 😂

IDW Splinter is such a Splonter. Batdad is far more pleasant to be around and won't punch his kid for protecting other kids from, well, Splinter.

I want to team up with someone willing to write the Batfam to my Mikey so I can have him ramble to Dick and Barb, so they can melt over him.

Very interesting topic of Splinter not being a perfect father!

Me and my S/O are making a tmnt au we started when we were only kids, and we decided to make Splinter more morally ambiguous such as him not being a great person before he gets humbled and gets mutated into a rat (Au is primarily taken off 2012 with a hint of ROTTMNT)

He's not perfect, but he tries to fix for past mistakes and do right by a second time

Why, thank you. The concept of Splinter as morally ambiguous has fascinated me since, well, the beginning. I always consider that part of Mirage City At War with Splinter being confronted by The Rat King about reaching Nirvana.

IDW Splinter and Mirage Splinter being war generals first and fathers second is something I think about often.

In one of my 2003 AUs I am exploring Splinter's imperfections and mistakes out loud. I would love to learn more about your AU. I love grim AUs.

2012 Splinter being a Splonter is Very Controversial but very worth thinking about within the context of the show. Rise Splinter is probably still controversial just by himself.
