Most people will actually assume that if you "haven't found anyone" it must mean that you're secretly gay

I think people who consider aromanticism as "basically straight" underestimate how noticeable absence can be to those around you.

Whether you're a kid in school with classmates who won't take "no one" as an answer to who you have a crush on or an adult whose coworkers have picked up on the fact that you've never mentioned a romantic partner; after enough time, a lack or insufficient amount of romantic interest will raise the antennae of friends, family, coworkers, etc... They will notice and they will speculate and they will ask.

It is impossible to meet the societal bar for straightness through inaction.

I have a bullshit theory that this is why various Goth subcultures exist. From the earliest memento mori signifiers in Church art to the Victorian era elaborate mourning rituals to Edward Gorey’s entire oeuvre to goth punks, not to mention the continuum of death (Day of the Dead, earlier native cultures embrace of death) from Latin culture that’s creeping its way into this death-adverse gringo culture, society needs death to be acknowledged and dealt with. It’s a basic human need to have to cope with our demise and denying this is yes, traumatizing.

I think that part of the human experience is that we are all part of all. elaborate clowning routine and some people don't know this and feel a general frustration and anxiety and anger about the universe in a way that they cannot pinpoint and thus take it out on everything and everyone around them due to their inability to confront the fact that we exist in a nonconsensual clowning routine at the end of which we shall all die

I don't know how many of my followers are furries but we just lost one of ours.

He died because the medical industry in the US refused to help. He was murdered in a million little ways, with a million automated systems.

He was on bluesky no more than five hours ago, now he's gone.

Dragoneer ran FurAffinity, which is more or less the furry art site. It looks like its' from the early aughts, has no native pdf support, and has zero discoverability or algorithmic function. It's home to me, it's always been home.

No matter how often I moved or how often my life radically changed, there was FA. I met my husband on the forums. Through the majority of its' life, Dragoneer kept it running. He never sold us out, never tried to keep up with trends. It's a community.

And there is something bitter about losing someone who was key to keeping one of the relics of the internet before corporations took over.

We have our home, but it's lost its' keeper.
