SAD NEWS
Hey folks, I have really sad news. I mentioned some post ago that there were some issues in the webtoon world. Well, one is resolved but now another one is following T.T
There are right now some rights issues in the foxtoon platform going on. Therefore a lot of changes are taking place, like (some may have noticed) some webtoons are now only available by buying the chapters.
And here comes the problem, for QsS this was also decided and I do not own a credit/debit card to buy them. Also I find it a bit pointless for me to translate the chapters when the most of you guys can read them along side the pictures. I was researching  a whole week how I may solve this but sadly I didn’t find a satisfying solution.
So the my conclusion is that I will be from this moment On-Hold. I will try my best to stay updated on the matter with foxtoon and also news of QsS.

Golang Development
Tumblr media
What is Golang development?
To begin, Golang development is now officially referred to as Go. Google was unable to get a domain name for their website and was forced to settle for golang.org. This became the more common label by accident. Since it proved rather helpful as a tag, particularly on Twitter, the words are now used interchangeably.
 So, what exactly is Go?
Go is a simple, effective, and reliable software application. It was released as an open-source project in 2012, making it new in contrast to other languages. It was designed at a time when Google’s database and infrastructure were rapidly expanding. And they were all straining to keep up with the intricacies of growth.
What exactly is a Golang development firm?
The Golang framework is well-known as the Golang programming language, which has a structure comparable to C. As the top Golang development firm, WebFocus provides full-stack Golang development services to create cloud-based infrastructure apps, micro-service oriented architectures, and web-based high-performance applications. Make the most complicated software concepts a reality by leveraging the knowledge of our highly experienced Golang engineers.
As a Golang web development company, we can assist you in developing best-in-class enterprise apps and ideal online solutions regardless of your company’s size. Our professional Go web development team can provide Go web development skills in fields such as Golang unit testing, big database building, Golang AI/ML app development, web-based music players, online games, Golang integration services, distributed or grid computing, and so on.
What are the services of a Golang development company?
Golang was designed to address performance issues. It is particularly beneficial for projects involving dispersed networks, IoT, cloud services, and other complicated back-end technologies where lightweight alternative web frameworks might be used.
   Golang AI/ML App Development
Our Golang app developers have years of expertise working with AI and machine learning. They may now utilize the Golang programming language to create customizable services that pass parameters obtained in service requests to AI/machine learning techniques and then return the required result to consumers.
   Synchronized Apps Development
We can assist you in the construction of synchronized apps and make multi-threading a breeze for you. This is feasible due to Golang’s built-in concurrency functionality, which can be implemented by creating Goroutines and channels. This synchronizes application implementation and prevents locking.
   Multifaceted Cloud App Development
We can create cloud-hosted applications using Google’s Go programming language. By leveraging Go Cloud, which comprises common cloud APIs as open source, Go is powerful in building code for cloud portability for multi-cloud and hybrid cloud applications.
   Development of Golang Web Apps
Our Golang engineers can create next-generation enterprise-grade web apps for companies looking to expand. We rely on scalable API-led integration implementation since it is concurrent, object-oriented, and so on.
 Support and upkeep for Golang
Because of the increasing demand, it is critical to maintain your Golang web apps on a regular basis. Our skilled tech support staff at QSS Technosoft will be available to you around the clock to offer you ongoing assistance for your mission-critical applications.
How to choose the right company for my Golang development project?
If you are seeking for the best and most cost-effective Golang outsourcing company in the United States and Europe, it is recommended to go with a mid-sized Golang development business situated in the United States and Europe.
   The organization should have:
At least 5-8 years of industry experience is required.
50+ project development experience
Have dealt with clients from at least 5-10 different countries.
You may select WebFocus, a firm with years of industry expertise that provides the best Golang development services.
What are the benefits of utilizing Golang for web development?
Go is a newer open-source scripting language. It was created by Google to satisfy the demands of developers working on large-scale projects. Although Go combines elements from other languages such as C, Go has its own set of capabilities for application development. It is mostly used to build servers and backend systems, although being a general-purpose programming language, Go can accomplish anything. Let’s look at the benefits of utilizing Golang for software development.
 Outstanding Results
Designed to work with multi-core CPUs
Methodology based on open source
Exceptionally Simple to Master
Clear, Exact Code
A Broadly Used Language
Integrated Package Manager
What are the advantages of outsourcing golang development services?
The Go code provides quick execution and excellent performance due to its support for concurrency and high speed. It has a direct impact not just on development and launch times, but also on development costs. Do you have a suggestion for a new application? Perhaps you want assistance with changing an existing application? Outsourcing to the correct Go development team is critical whether you need assistance creating or scaling your application.
   Versatile
Secure
Compilability
The rate of operation
Parallelism
There are only a few programmers
Backend and frontend
Blockchain implementation simplicity

Quality Standards System (QSS) For Maritime Training Institutions
Maritime training institutions (MTIs) play a key role in the overall safety of the maritime industry by ensuring only competent seafarers are certified. Quality Standard Systems (QSS) enable MTIs to deliver competent seafarers using a process approach to designing and delivering courses. Since the sinking of the Titanic, the world community has been concerned with the competencies of mariners on board internationally trading vessels. SOLAS (Safety of Life at Sea) followed by the ISM Code streamlined a lot of the requirements and expectations to ensure safe and clean seas with reduction in marine causalities. However, the ISM Code could not be designed for every type of vessel, nationalities, company and Flag State. The correct implementation is based on the interpretation by the Flag State Administrations. Very often, however, interpretation leaves loopholes which let incompetent mariners in through the cracks and consequently result in disasters sometimes. Thus the need for QSS for MTIs so seafarers from around the globe can be trusted at par for the certificates that they hold as evidence of their competence. Nothing can be a 100% but a good attempt is the STCW (Standards of Training, Certification and Watch keeping for Seafarers) convention.
In 1993 together with wider acceptance and implementation of the ISM Code by IMO for internationally trading vessels, IMO embarked on a comprehensive revision of the STCW to reduce human error; a major cause of marine causalities. The 1995 conference on STCW amended the STCW convention and adopted the February 1997 amendments. Flag States including the US Coast Guard introduced requirements for maritime training institutes to be monitored. The STCW training provided is to be delivered per a Flag State accepted quality standards system (QSS). USCG NAVIC 901 of November 30, 2001 provides guidelines. Similarly other Flag States also came up with their requirements for QSS.
The STCW training required for Masters, Officers and ratings as also those activities that directly impact this training were covered. The convention recognizes that both OJT (On Job Training) and the formal training traditionally conducted for mariners needed to be monitored. Requirements for keeping a training record book or other record of training established responsibility for companies operating seagoing vessels and accepting trainees on board. Criticality of all training requires training establishments and entities to define criteria, within their QSS, and have it approved by Flag State. Systematization of this training including mandatory simulator training and the establishment of the competence requirement for the trainers became a positive development.
Implementing a QSS using a process based management system approach to the STCW training did not require re-inventing the wheel. STCW Code B-1/8 describes the requirement for a quality management system (QSS) based on ISO 9000 guidelines. To further ensure these requirements are met, IMO also introduced the IMSAS (IMO Member State Audit Scheme) audits of Flag States. The Flag States aligned their management systems to ISO 9001 including the Liberian Ship Registry and others. The USCG developed the MMS (Mission Management System) based on ISO 9001. The QSS is essentially a quality management system.
Maritime Training Institutions falling under the STCW convention are progressively aligning their training and the management systems (QSS) at the training institutes to ISO 9001. QMII as a SME (Subject Matter Expert) and a global leader in the process based management system approach and with 30 plus years of working with the maritime industry understands this. We have worked with training institutes to align their systems with ISO 9001. The Ethiopian Maritime Academy, in Bahir Dar, Ethiopia is an example. We also work with USCG on their MMS and have assisted the Trinidad and Tobago CG and many other companies.

Noritsu Koki Co. announced its original Quick Service System (QSS-1) photofinishing platform in 1976. That was just three years before Noritsu America released the QSS-2, the digital minilab that kickstarted one-hour photo processing. The QSS-2 incorporated a microprocessor capable of controlling the photofinishing operation—from film development through color printing—in 45 minutes.
... Eastman Kodak Company introduced its first American-made photofinishing minilab in July 1987. The landmark product, the Minilab System 20, was intended for a low-volume photofinishing market. This included college bookstores, food and drugstores, video stores, amusement parks as well as hotels. The system could handle 20 orders an hour; it also provided the same photofinishing quality as Kodak’s high-speed 3510 color printer, introduced in October 1986.
...Fuji Photo Film introduced its first chemical minilab system in 1984 and the first Frontier digital minilab, the Fuji Frontier 1000, in 1996. The Frontier 1000 was the first minilab to scan analog color negatives and output them on photographic paper using a laser printer. Among its most significant features was the ability to scan and digitally correct individual film frames, thereby enhancing print quality.

While survival food packages have actually been a staple for severe campers and outdoor adventurers for years, there's now an increasing interest across the basic population, thanks to issues over possible food lacks.
What to Try to find in a Survival Food Package Serving Size One of the most important things to try to find in a survival food package is the serving size, given that you require to make sure you have enough food on your own and anybody else you're attempting to feed. Elizabeth Andress, Ph.
D., professors and extension food safety specialists at The University of Georgia, say that a three-day survival package will be enough for a lot of catastrophes, but if you remain in a location where you know power gets cut off for a prolonged period of time, a two-week supply is more reasonable. Whichever you choose, "plan food products so at least one well-balanced meal might be consumed every day," they state.
A three-day kit that's meant for one individual may have 18 servings, but just nine meals. This is deliberate, as you typically have higher calorie and protein needs in survival circumstances. Rack Life Another thing to consider is service life. Most food packages that are designated for survival have a 20- to 30-year life span, but make certain you're double checking.
You can still stockpile on these products separately, but you'll have to keep an eye Discover more on expiration dates and swap them out with new food when appropriate. Preparation Method Preparation method is of utmost importance, as well, considering that you need to be able to in fact eat the food if you have no power or water supply.

I had a good first week back. A mix of bug fixes and little improvements.
couple of highlights, otherwise all misc this week
Thanks for the quick issue reports over the holiday. The scanbar had an annoying thing where the new single pixel border was making it awkward to drag when in borderless fullscreen--you'd move your mouse to the bottom of the screen, but then you'd click the border and not the scanbar, and the whole video would move--this I have now fixed. Also an issue with new imports' 'pixel duplicates' data not being saved correctly--I have fixed the problem and scheduled all affected files to regen their pixel duplicate data.
I also put some time into multiple local file services. It was more background work, this time to do with system predicate fetching, so there isn't much neat stuff to show off unless you are an advanced user. Almost all the background work is done now, though, so I hope to start spinning up more complex search UI and actually adding new file services pretty soon. One neat thing, now that I have new file filtering tools, I was able to expand 'system:file service' to search for deleted and petitioned files.
full list
misc:
fixed an issue where the one pixel border on the new 'control bar' on the media viewer was annoyingly catching mouse events at the bottom of the screen when in borderless fullscreen mode (and hence dragging the video, not scanning video position). the animation scanbar now owns its own border and processes mouse events on it properly
fixed a typo bug in the new pixel hash system that meant new imports were not being added to the system correctly. on update, all files affected will be fixed of bad data and scheduled for a pixel hash regen. sorry for the trouble, and thank you for the quick reports here
added a 'fixed font size example' qss file to the install. I have passed this file to others as an example of a quick way to make the font (and essentially ui scale) larger. it has some help comments inside and is now always available. the default example font size is lmao
fixed another type checking problem for (mostly Arch/AUR) PyQt5 users (issue #1033)
wrote a new display mappings maintenance routine for the database menu that repopulates the display mappings cache for missing rows. this task will be radically faster than a full regen for some problems, but it only solves those problems
on boot, the program now explicitly checks if any of the database files are set as read-only and if so will dump out with an appropriate error
rewrote my various 'file size problem' exception hierarchy to clearly split 'the file import options disallow this big gif' vs 'this file is zero size/this file is malformed'. we've had several problems here recently, but file import options rule-breaking should set 'ignore' again, and import objects should be better about ignore vs fail state from now on
added more error handling for broken image files. some will report cleaner errors, some will now import
the new parsing system that discards source urls if they share a domain with a primary import url is now stricter--now discarding only if they share the same url class. the domain check was messing up saving post urls when they were parsed from an api url (issue #1036)
the network engine no longer sends a Range header if it is expecting to pull html/json, just files. this fixes fetching pages from nijie.info (and several other server engines, it seems), which has some unusual access rules regarding Range and Accept-Encoding
fixed a problem with no_daemons and the docker package server scripts (issue #1039)
if the server engine (serverside or client api) is running a request during program shutdown, it now politely says 'Application is shutting down!' with a 503 rather than going bananas and dumping to log with an uncaught 500
fixed some bad client db update error handling code
.
multiple local file services (system predicate edition):
system:file service now supports 'deleted' and 'petitioned' status
advanced 'all known files' search pages now show more system predicates
when inbox and archive are hidden because one has 0 count, and the search space is simple, system everything now says what they are, e.g. "system:everything (24) (all in inbox)"
file repos' 'system:local/not local' now sort at the top of the system predicate list, like inbox/archive
.
client api:
the GET /get_files/file_metadata call now returns the file modified date and imported/deleted timestamps for each file service the file is currently in or deleted from. check the help for an example!
fixed client api file search with random sort (file_sort_type = 4)
client api version is now 24
.
boring multiple local file services work:
the system predicates listed in a search page dropdown now support the new 'multiple location search context' object, which means in future I will be able to switch over to 'file domain is union of (A, deleted from B, and C)' and all the numbers will add up appropriately with ranged 'x-y' counts and deal with combinations of file repo and local service and current/deleted neatly
when fetching system preds in 'all known files', the system:everything 'num files' count will be stated if available in the cache
for the new system:file service search, refactored db level file filtering to support all status types
cleaned up how system preds are generated
.
boring refactoring work:
moved GUGs from network domain code to their own file
moved URL Class from network domain code to its own file
moved the pure functions from network domain code to their own file
cleared up some file maintenance enum variable names
sped up random file sort for large result sets
misc client network code cleanup and type hints, and rejiggered cleaner imports after the refactoring
next week
More multiple local file services work. I'll convert autocomplete tag results to the new system like I did system predicates fetching this week, and then we should be pretty close to allowing real file searches across multiple and deleted file domains.

I had a great few days mostly cleaning and fixing things. If you sync with the PTR, update will take a minute this week.
macos release polish
I cleaned up the new macOS release. It seems to have launched and otherwise generally worked last week, but there was a bug in finding the specific database location macOS users are used to. Without the '--d' launch parameter, it was creating an empty new db inside the app, in the 'db' dir hydrus would normally use (and the really old App used to use, if you remember that), and hence would say 'hey, this looks like the first time you are running the program...' on boot. I have fixed the 'I am running in an app' detection and the ~/Library/Hydrus database path calculation routine, so everything should be back to normal.
It also has the old readme and Applications shortcut in the dmg, and the filename should be fixed too. I expect this to be the only macOS release I put out from now on. Let me know if you have any more trouble!
miscount fix
Last week, I made the number in the 'pending (1,234)' menu title add up in a more efficient way. Rather than counting raw mapping rows every time, it uses a table of pre-computed numbers, the same used for autocomplete results. It turns out there were some legacy (from a long time ago) miscount bugs in there for some users. This resulted in a 'sticky' number that would not go away even after committing. A maintenance routine exists to fix this, but it is a sledgehammer when we need a scalpel.
So, I have written a maintenance routine to regen this pending data efficiently and correct these old bugs. It is basically the same as I did a few months ago with the 'display' caches during the siblings and parents work, but for a deeper level of tags. It will be run on update, along with a new thing that forces the menu's count to regen, both of which can now be accessed from database->regenerate menu in case we need them again in future. If you sync with the PTR, it may take a minute or so to finish.
I hope this will fix the issue completely, but if you still have a bad count, or if your count drifts off zero again over time, please let me know!
underscores
After discussion with some users, I have added an experimental setting to options->tag presentation that replaces all underscore characters in tags with space characters, as long as you are in 'front-facing' UI like regular search pages or the media viewer. It works on the same system as the 'hide namespace' option--and siblings--in that you still see the raw truth in manage tags and other edit locations.
This setting is experimental since it will add a bit of CPU lag to tag presentation and may result in some seemingly duplicate rows. I have long planned to fix the underscore issue with a really nice system, but I was convinced that adding a hacky system in the meantime would be a good thing to play with. If you care about this issue, give it a go and let me know if you run into any problems.
full list
macOS:
I fixed an issue with last week's Big Sur compatible release where it wasn't finding your old database correctly--it was defaulting to a different location, so without a specific launch command otherwise, it started a fresh db and said 'hey, looks like first time you ran the program'. if you are a long-time user of hydrus, please install and run 436 as usual, it should figure out your old db location correctly as ~/Library/Hydrus without any launch command override needed
If you never ran any of the old macOS builds, and you started using hydrus for the first time on macOS last week with the experimental Big Sur compatible build, your brand new database is in a funky location! don't update yet, or you will delete it! You will want to copy your .db files and the client_files folder from inside_the_435_app/Contents/MacOS/db to ~/Library/Hydrus, which should for most people be /Users/(YOU)/Library/Hydrus. feel free to ask for help if you can't figure this out
fixed a 'this is macOS' platform check for newer macOS releases, which ensures the 'userpath' fallback is correctly initialised to ~/Library/Hydrus
fixed the new macOS github workflow build script to tell hydrus that it is running from inside an App, so it knows to default to the userpath fallback correctly
the macOS build now has the old filename
it also has the ReadMeFirst.rtf file and Applications shortcut
collected the new build-related files in static/build_files, which will likely see more files in future
.
pending tag cache regen:
two new maintenance tasks are added to the database->regenerate menu--one that forces a recalc of your total 'pending' count as used in the pending menu, and one that recalculates the cached pending tag mappings for storage tags (just like the display one added some time ago, but one layer deeper). the menu entries are relabelled appropriately
these routines will be run on database update, and should correct the bad pending menu counts many users discovered last week (the new efficient way that the pending count is calculated exposed some legacy bad cached pending storage mappings entries. we'll see if they come back, or if this is just clearing up bad counts hanging around from ages ago)
the quick pending mapping cache regen routines take a little longer to initialise now, but they now clear out surplus tag data, rather than just regenerating the 'correct' tags
.
misc:
added an experimental setting to _options->tag presentation_ to replace all underscores in tags with spaces. this is just a render rule, so it will only apply in front-facing 'display' contexts (a bit like how siblings work in search pages, but you see the truth in _manage tags_), will consume a little more CPU with big lists, and may result in some duplicate rows, but let's see how it goes. this is basically a quick hardcoded hack until there is a more beautiful solution here
in the two 'Duck' dark QSS styles, removed fixed font size on button labels that wasn't scaling on high DPI screens
the filename tagging panel now shows parents and siblings correctly on the 'tags for all' and 'tags for selected' taglists. I'd like to show siblings and parents in the file list above in future, but it'll be a bit more tricky to do neatly and without megalag
GUGs and NGUGs now report their reasons for not being functional in the downloader selector list and subscription errors. typically this will be a missing url class or an url class missing a matching parser, but more complicated example-url-parsing errors will also be outlined
fixed a bug in the client api in the set-cookies call when no cookies are set, and ensured all cookies added this way are saved permanently (before, some could be lost if that domain was not used in network traffic before the next client shutdown)
the 'refresh account' button in _review services_ now works on the new async system. it presents errors nicely
a repository's current update period is now stated in its review services panel
review services now says 'checking for updates in...' rather than 'next update due...', which is more accurate and will matter more with small update times
fixed some false positive instances of 'this server was not a tag repo' error in the network engine.
the hydrus server now also outputs hydrus specific 'Server' header (rather than some twisted default) on 'unsupported request' 404s and any other unusual 'infrastructure' 4XX or 5XX
if the repository updates in the filesystem are lacking some required file information when calculating what to process, the client now queues those files for a metadata regen maintenance job and raises a cleaner error
just as a safety measure, if a repository ever happens to deliver a metadata update slice with a 'next update due' time that has already passed, the client now adds a buffer and checks tomorrow instead
a new program launch argument, db_transaction_commit_time, lets you change how often the database's changes are committed to disk. default is 30 (seconds) for client, 120 for server
altering the repository update period now prints a summary of the change to the log
updated the ipfs links in the help
updated the main help index.html and the github readme.md with the user-run repo and wiki at https://github.com/CuddleBear92/Hydrus-Presets-and-Scripts
next week
I may or may not be tied up with IRL stuff for a bit. Once I am back to things, I will keep working on smaller issues and get started on the pre-work for multiple local file services. There are several hundred locations where the 'my files' service is hardcoded as the local file reference, so a decent part of this work, before I get to file service migration and new location import options, will just be putting some time into ancient code.

Capture & Output
Tumblr media
Introduction & Brief
Overview
It is important for a photographer to understand some of the ways in which
photographic images maybe captured and their impact on image quality. It
is equally beneficial to have an appreciation and recognition of a range of
image printing presentation methods and their impact on the ‘look’ of the
final images.
All of which will aid and inform professional practice and decision making.
Create
An illustrated report comparing two methods of Capture:
Your current Camera v Your dream Professional camera?
& at least two methods of Output from either:
• C-Type, Inkjet or Giclee?
Produce
A formal illustrated report with a minimum of 1000 of your own words.
Add a bibliography to list all the sources that you have consulted in your
research.
Submit either in word(.docx) or PDF format to the MyCity > Submissions >
Capture & Output area.
Capture
In this part of the report, I would like to demonstrate the differences of two methods of capture. The first method is using my current camera, a Nikon D5600 and the second, a much higher specification model called a Nikon D850.
Nikon D5600
Tumblr media
“The Nikon D5600 is an F-mount DSLR announced by Nikon on November 10, 2016. The successor of the D5500.
D5600 offers only small changes over the predecessor, among them is Bluetooth connection. With SnapBridge application on smart device, the camera can be remote controlled. SnapBridge also allows automated updating of camera's clock and GPS.”
Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nikon_D5600
Nikon D850
Tumblr media
“The Nikon D850 is a professional-grade full-frame digital single-lens reflex camera (DSLR) produced by Nikon. The camera was officially announced on July 25, 2017 (the 100th anniversary of Nikon's founding), launched on August 24, 2017, and first shipped on September 08, 2017. Nikon announced it could not fill the preorders on August 28, 2017 and filled less than 10% of preorders on the first shipping day. It is the successor to the Nikon D810.
The D850 is the first Nikon DSLR featuring a back-illuminated image sensor claiming overall a one-stop image quality (image noise) improvement. This camera was the first full frame DSLR achieving 100 points at Dxomark. The D850 also won Camera of the Year for 2017 at Imaging Resource.”
Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nikon_D850
From our group research questions, we identified there are three main types of camera sensors, CCD, Foveon and CMOS.
CCD stands for Couple Charged Device. It is an integrated circuit etched onto a silicon surface forming light sensitive elements called pixels. Photons fall on this surface and generate a charge that can be read by electronics and turned into a digital copy of the light patterns falling on the device.
Foveon The Foveon X3 sensor is an image sensor for digital cameras, designed by Foveon, Inc. and manufactured by Dongbu Electronics. It uses an array of photosites, each of which consists of three vertically stacked photodiodes, organized in a two-dimensional grid. This could be described as the “Betamax” of camera sensors as although (arguably) it is a better method of capturing the light using RGB for each photosite, it was never widely adopted.
CMOS stands for Complimentary Metal-Oxide Semiconductor. A solid state circuit is present at each photosite and manipulates the date for each individual pixel on the sensor. Essentially it is a more refined process where each photosite can be uniquely accessed. It responds to lighting conditions in ways that a CCD cannot.
The D5600 has a 25MP CMOS sensor with a physical size of 23.5 x 15.6mm whereas the D850 has a 45.7MP CMOS sensor measuring 35.9 x 23.9mm, giving it a much more accurate and detailed image capture.
The chart below shows the difference in size between the two sensors with the D850 shown as the “Full Frame” size on the top left and the D5600 as the “APS-C” on the top line second from the right.
Tumblr media
Dynamic range is also very important in selecting your camera as it dictates the difference between the darkest and lightest tones of an image and the higher the dynamic range, the more detail in both the highlights and the shadows. The image below shows the differences in dynamic range from poor (far left) to good (far right)
Tumblr media
The D5600 has a 14EV while the D850 has a 14.8EV
Bit depth is also important when selecting a camera as it measures how many colours are available in an images colour palate. The higher the number, the more refined detail and truer depth of colours.
The D5600 has a bit depth of 14 bit while the D850 is almost double that at 24.6 bit.
Another consideration is the range of ISO. Digital noise can be introduced at high levels of ISO as when high levels of amplification are required in extremely low light level situations, this can cause the sensor to produce heat which manifests as grain and distortion on the image. The D5600 has a range of 100-256000 while the D850’s range is 64-256000 (even higher possible with step increments).
Additional factors to consider between the models are: Processor (the D5600 uses a Nikon EXPEED engine whereas the D850 uses the higher specification EXPEED 5) Focus points are also important in allowing greater accuracy of focus across the image and the D850 boasts 153 versus the D5600’s 39. The build quality and weatherproofing of the camera is also important and the D5600 has a polycarbonate (plastic) body while the D850 uses magnesium alloy and carbon fibre which is more durable and lighter. The D5600 is weather resistant, however the D850 is full weather sealed meaning it can be used in much wetter conditions than the D5600 without the possibility od water or other types of damage. Both cameras have a wide selection of accessories available and can use most Nikon F mount lenses manufactured over the last 50-60 years.
Output
From our group questions, we ascertained there are two main outputs that photographers use. The first one is print, via CMYK and this can take the form of photographic prints via C-Type, which uses RGB lasers, exposing onto light sensitive paper then developed and washed (as seen on our visit to Loxley, where we were shown their mini wet labs that can complete the process in around four minutes) The maximum size of print Loxely can achieve using this process is 50” x 100”
Kodak and Fuji are two of the most popular manufacturers of the paper used in C-Type printing and their archival stability is around 50 years (dependant on the environment they are kept in and not in direct sunlight).
Tumblr media
A Noritsu QSS-3301 digital minilab
Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minilab
Dry lab methods include dye sublimation (for printing on metal and plastics), inkjet for fine art prints, press printing for cheaper, low volume runs (such as books), UV printing for certain surfaces like leather and fabric and laser printing for low quality black and white or colour prints.
Main paper types used for printing are: gloss, lustre, metallic and velvet. The main surfaces used are acrylic, leather, aluminium, wood, fabric and glass.
Fine Art prints (or Giclee) are achieved by spraying microscopic dots of pigment based inks onto high quality fine art papers. Loxley’s system uses ten inks per print (nine used at the one time with the black changing between glossy and matt depending on the paper). DP2 software is used as a bridge to speak to the printers from the submission portal on the website. The dot size on the printer head is 3.5PL (picolitres) and an A3 print takes approximately five minutes. Archival stability using this method is around 100 years – again depending on the environment the print is located in. The maximum output size for this format is 60” x 40” and turnaround time is three working days.
Tumblr media
Source: https://www.artsyshark.com/2018/10/10/what-artists-need-to-know-about-fine-art-printing/
Another type of output that photographers use is via digital, using RGB. As CMYK is used for print, this method is concerned with absorption and reflection of colour using light whereas, the opposite is true of RGB as it achieves this by emitting light from pixels for the viewer to see the image. Examples of this kind of output include monitors, projectors, smart phones and indeed, anything that has a screen that generates an image the viewer can see.
Conclusion
This has been a very interesting brief as it has really helped me gain a much greater understanding of the importance of the quality (and size) of various components in the capture devices (cameras) and also taught me some really important aspects of the output methods and what the benefits are of each one.
