I’m so sick of misogynistic finance bros (like Caleb Hammer, Graham Stephan, and the like) saying that women don’t need to have their hair done, makeup, nails, etc. when trying to save/invest/pay off debt. Women in society are almost exclusively judged based off their looks. In order to make more money as a woman, you have to look good and date well. This is a fact. You can thug it out on your intellect or work ethic alone but it will be a LOT harder and you will get a lot of bad shit thrown your way and you WILL get burnt out. In my opinion, beauty products, skincare, makeup, manicures, pedicures, brows, hair cuts & colors, facials, good healthcare, etc. are MANDATORY for women to get ahead in the society that we currently live in. So not only do we make less than men do on average across industries, we’re spending more than them to be seen as acceptable or favorable by societal standards. It’s a double L for women.
#(part of the reason we make less is because women do not negotiate as much as they should)#but that is a whole other topic

JERUSALEM (AP) — Israel has approved the largest seizure of land in the occupied West Bank in over three decades, a settlement tracking group said Wednesday, a move that is likely to worsen already soaring tensions linked to the war in Gaza.
Israel’s aggressive expansion in the West Bank reflects the settler community’s strong influence in the government of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the most religious and nationalist in the country’s history. Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, a settler himself, has turbocharged the policy of expansion, seizing new authorities over settlement development and saying he aims to solidify Israel’s hold on the territory and prevent the creation of a Palestinian state.
Authorities recently approved the appropriation of 12.7 square kilometers (nearly 5 square miles) of land in the Jordan Valley, according to a copy of the order obtained by The Associated Press. Data from Peace Now, the tracking group, indicate it was the largest single appropriation approved since the 1993 Oslo accords at the start of the peace process.
Settlement monitors said the land grab connects Israeli settlements along a key corridor bordering Jordan, a move they said undermines the prospect of a contiguous Palestinian state.
U.N. spokesperson Stephane Dujarric called it “a step in the wrong direction,” adding that “the direction we want to be heading is to find a negotiated two-state solution.”
The newly seized land is in an area of the West Bank where, even before the outbreak of the Israel-Hamas war, settler violence was displacing communities of Palestinians. That violence has only surged since Hamas’ Oct. 7 attack ignited the war in Gaza. Settlers have carried out more than 1,000 attacks on Palestinians since October in the West Bank, causing deaths and damaging property, according to the U.N.
The land seizure, which was approved late last month but only publicized on Wednesday, comes after the seizure of 8 square kilometers (roughly 3 square miles) of land in the West Bank in March and 2.6 square kilometers (1 square mile) in February.
That makes 2024 by far the peak year for Israeli land seizure in the West Bank, Peace Now said.
By declaring them state lands, the government opens them up to being leased to Israelis and prohibits private Palestinian ownership.

The accession, the Trial, and the Crossroads on the party
Time: 20241117-20241120

Stephane's Steller Week
After weeks of intense negotiations, our guy Sejourne, the former leader of the centrist Renew group in the European Parliament and a close ally of Macron, secured a spot for himself on the European Commission on Wednesday evening. The vote was a resounding success, with a large majority of MEPs confirming Séjourné as one of six executive vice presidents appointed by Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
THE PRICE OF POWER. The S&D group’s anger at von der Leyen’s deal-making led to threats to sink the EPP’s candidate for the powerful competition and climate portfolio, Teresa Ribera. After intense back-and-forth between the Parliament's political groups, the S&D conceded to von der Leyen on Fitto in exchange for the EPP’s backing of Ribera. The EPP’s support for Ribera only came after she endured questioning by the Spanish parliament regarding her ministry’s management of the deadly flooding in Valencia and refused to commit to resigning if indicted by a court.
A BACKROOM DEAL. The deal, which paved the way for the new Commission to start work on December 1, meant that no country’s nominee was rejected — the first time that this has happened since 1999. Although touted by von der Leyen as proof of the EU’s political unity, the deal, struck behind closed doors between a select group of MEPs, has been criticised by some as a backward step for the power of the European Parliament.
A THREAT TO THE CORDON SANITAIRE? Some Renew, Green and Socialist lawmakers opposed Fitto’s confirmation, arguing that his leadership position, along with that of Séjourné, represented a breaking of the cordon sanitaire between mainstream parties and those on the far right1. The EPP’s decision to back Fitto and Séjourné has led to concerns that it will normalise relations with the far right, potentially paving the way for the future inclusion of such parties in government.
BACK HOME IN FRANCE, Séjourné’s political patron, Emmanuel Macron, is no stranger to forging alliances with those on the right. Since winning a second term as French president in 2022, Macron has been forced to rely on the support of the conservative Les Republicains (LR) party to push through his legislative agenda4. The recent appointment of LR heavyweight Michel Barnier as prime minister was seen as a sign that Macron is willing to do whatever it takes to maintain his grip on power, even if it means sacrificing some of his party's core values.
However, Barnier’s premiership has been marked by a series of political crises. A major crisis revolves around the substantial budget deficit, which reached 6.1% of GDP in 2024, significantly exceeding the initial projection of 4.4%. This issue has triggered sharp criticism of the previous governments, including that of Gabriel Attal, from the Senate and opposition parties, back in Paris...

FINANCE FURORE. As I said in my previous newsletter, the news isn't looking good for our guy Gaby. Senate report on France’s budget deficit, which paints a damning picture of the former Prime Minister’s economic stewardship, would not help his already plummeting sondage. The report, spearheaded by Les Republicains (LR), has not only put Attal in the hot seat, but also threatens to torpedo the fragile “common ground” coalition he needs to achieve his political goals.
The Senate report accuses the Attal government of “irresponsibility” and “inaction” in the face of a rapidly deteriorating fiscal situation.
Specifically, the report criticizes Attal’s decision not to introduce a corrective budget in early 2024, despite warnings from his own finance ministry.
Attal and his former ministers have hit back, calling the report “full of lies” and a “politically motivated attack." They argue they took steps to address the deficit and blame the crisis on a global economic slowdown.
The National Assembly is set to conduct its own inquiry into the budget deficit, though the legal implication is minimal, they may lead to further scrutiny of Attal's time in government.
COALITION CONUNDRUM. The deficit debacle has exposed deep fault lines within the “common ground” coalition that brought together Macron’s centrist EPR with the conservative LR. As Attal sets his sights on the mayorship of Paris, this internal strife presents a major obstacle.
Attal’s relationship with his successor, Prime Minister Michel Barnier, has been characterized by tension and disagreement.
The Senate report, spearheaded by LR, is seen by some as an attempt to distance the conservatives from the economic failures of previous Macron-led governments.
Attal and LR leader Laurent Wauquiez have clashed over policy issues like raising employer contributions and the allocation of key parliamentary posts.
Tensions are high between Attal’s EPR group and their LR partners, with Attal accusing Wauquiez of being more interested in personal gain than in supporting the coalition.
MAYORAL PROSPECTS. Despite the current turmoil, Attal remains a strong contender for the mayorship of Paris. However, he faces a complex political landscape and will need to carefully navigate the challenges ahead.
A recent poll found that 42% of Parisians believe Attal would make a good mayor.
He will likely not face competition with the current Minister of Culture and mayor of the 7th arrondissement, Rachida Dati, but he will need to make a concession with the woman who has long laid her eyes on the position. Similar to what he did with Elizabeth Borne...
While being far less popular, Incumbent mayor Anne Hidalgo has not ruled out running for a third term, and the Socialist Party remains a force in Parisian politics.
Two Path, One Party
As Attal prepares to succeed Sejourne as the head of the Renaissance party on 8th Dec. He would point new direction to the party, namely:
ORGANISATION AND ELECTION. Attal is expected to expand the party's executive board to include more representatives from different regions of France. This move suggests a desire to make the party more inclusive and responsive to local concerns, echoing Stéphane Séjourné's broader efforts to decentralise Renaissance.
CONTROL OVER NOMINATIONS. Attal plans to appoint Franck Riester, one of his close allies, as the head of the elections division and the president of the National Investment Commission (CNI). This strategic placement will give Attal a key advantage in shaping the party's electoral landscape and promoting candidates aligned with his vision.
POST-MACRON MOMENTUM. Attal's leadership could also lead to a shift in power dynamics within the Renaissance, potentially diminishing the influence of long-standing Macron loyalists. Sources suggest that Attal aims to "dilute the weight" of figures like Richard Ferrand and Stanislas Guerini who currently hold significant sway within the party as de facto official members, despite barely participating in any party works or burex meetings. This move could signal a desire to assert his own authority and potentially distance the party from its close association with Macron, especially as he prepares for a potential presidential bid in 2027.
No one else was in the room where it happened
Here is what I want to know so badly but have no clue about because well, I, like my dear audience, am but a very ordinary citizen:
Regarding the AN grill on the abuse of power as caretaking government, of which both GA and StS were invited last week and today afternoon respectively, what are asked? What are the results?
Did Stephane play any role in settling this EVP trial?
Most importantly, are Gabriel Attal and Stephane Sejourne, uh-hem, together?
If you happen to be 'the one in knows' and are willing to fill the appetites of curiosity from your servants, welcome to DM me. I am all ears :)
#gabriel attal#stephane sejourne#I am too tired to link each news#But I have all of them#DM me for the link of the package#Including all paywalled content#newsletter#french politics#I think many points are missed#But I tired

Olek Capital - family office with a focus on impact and property investments
In 2024, entrepreneur Thomas Olek reorganised his investments and bundled them in Olek Capital GmbH, which was founded for this purpose. He is expanding his activities internationally with the family office. In addition to an office in Frankfurt am Main, the company is also represented in Monaco and Miami.
Olek Capital - sustainability and returns combined
The acquisition of a property package for nine million euros is the first major transaction with which Olek Capital GmbH has become known to a wider public. Its owner Thomas Olek, however, is no stranger to the world of finance and has built up a reputation as a successful investor over the past decades with property projects for Publity AG and well-known impact investments.
In the past year, Thomas Olek has disposed of further investments and thus built up considerable cash reserves, which are now available for international investments by Olek Capital. With offices in #Frankfurt am Main, #Monaco and #Miami, the aim is to realise promising projects that offer sustainable growth prospects.
Olek Capital is currently examining lucrative investment opportunities at its locations. The current interest rate trend in particular means that the prospects for high-quality property projects are promising again. With its in-depth understanding of the financial sector and a strong international network, Olek Capital always pursues a sustainable approach with lucrative returns and long-term value appreciation.
Real estate is the basis of Olek Capital
One of Olek Capital's largest assets is its majority stake in Publity AG. Founded in 1999, the company specialises in the realisation of high-quality commercial properties in German-speaking countries and has always focused on more ESG-compliant projects in recent years.
Thomas Olek managed the company from 2002 to 2020 before moving on to other projects in the field of impact investing. Since December 2024, he has once again led the company as sole CEO and is focussing on repositioning and transforming the company.
Olek Capital combines many years of expertise in impact and property investing
In addition to the owners of Olek Capital, Thomas Olek and his wife Annah Olek, long-time companion Stephan Kunath is managing the company's fortunes as CEO. The team combines extensive expertise in the realisation of high-quality real estate projects and has gained specific experience in impact investing with Neon Equity AG. This includes successful investments in the electromobility and healthcare sectors.
Harmonising sustainability and returns remains Olek Capital's goal. The company is co-organising the International Impact Forum, which will be held in Monaco for the first time in March 2025. Together with the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation and UNA TERRA, the forum will bring together experts from business, politics, science and finance to discuss current developments in impact investing and further develop this asset class.
Thomas Olek - owner with vision
In the past, Thomas Olek has repeatedly demonstrated his ability to recognise and strategically exploit long-term market opportunities. He has not only made a name for himself in the German property industry. He is fully committed to digital processes that enable properties to be managed more efficiently and transparently. In 2019, he was honoured with the PLATOW Award in the commercial property category.
With Olek Capital GmbH, Thomas Olek now wants to utilise this many years of experience internationally.

German security officials say they are carefully examining possible indications of foreign finance or influence in a series of attacks in German cities in the past year.
However, they have reacted coolly to a German TV report suggesting suspicious internet searches were carried out in Russia before a deadly attack in Mannheim last year.
A 26-year-old Afghan man has admitted a knife attack that targeted anti-Islam activist Michael Stürzenberger and killed a police officer in May last year, days before European elections.
A ZDF TV report has now suggested that Russian Google searches days earlier had included "terror attack in Mannheim" and "Michael Stürzenberger stabbed".
Digital intelligence analyst Steven Broschart told the public broadcaster ZDF's Terra X History programme that the searches were highly unusual: "it's pretty unlikely that we're talking about a coincidence here".
He spoke of Russian internet searches for webcams in Mannheim's market square before the 31 May attack took place.
The broadcaster also highlighted fires inside parcels at a DHL cargo hub in Leipzig which Western security officials blamed on Russia's GRU military intelligence agency.
That attack in August 2024 preceded regional elections in Saxony, and the head of domestic intelligence Stephan Joachim Kramer in neighbouring Thuringia told ZDF that "those who deal with this know we've actually been at war for a long time, even if it's not been declared".
Police officer killed in Mannheim attack
Russian 'test runs' targeted cargo flights to US
The trial of the man accused of carrying out the Mannheim attack, Sulaiman A, has heard how he became fascinated by jihadist group Islamic State and how he had ordered a knife online beforehand.
Other German cities have since been hit by attacks, including this year in Aschaffenburg and Munich, ahead of federal elections. The killings coincided with a spike in support for the far-right anti-immigration party, Alternative for Germany.
Interior ministry officials have not commented on ZDF's report on Russian internet searches four days before the Mannheim attack, other than to say the issue of "possible indications of targeted influence from abroad" was being taken seriously.
There were "no clear indications" so far, the spokesman told AFP news agency.
Meanwhile, a spokesman for Germany's BND intelligence service voiced scepticism over the analysis of internet searches before last year's Mannheim attack.
"The results from Google Trends are unsuitable for presented analysis and evaluation methods and cannot be used with validity either," the spokesman told Reuters.
The spokesman suggested that the the results were based on samples and searches that were too small, and that VPNs (Virtual Private Networks) that disguised the location of a search would not have been taken into account.
Despite the wariness of the intelligence response, former BND employee Gerhard Conrad warned that it would be "naive" not to pursue these leads.
Such violent crimes would certainly fit the "toolbox of what we now called hybrid measures, hybrid warfare", he said.
The domestic intelligence service warned only last week that Russian spies were using "espionage, sabotage and exertion of influence, including disinformation" to target Germany and the rest of Europe.

20241106 Gabriel Attal faces it
Bonjour à toutes et à tous! It's not an exaggeration to say that politics has fallen into chaos. While the left engaged in blame games and the right wing rejoiced over their new transatlantic partner as Trump waltzed back to the White House (this editor almost wanted to skip the update today entirely amid this), Gabriel Attal calmly and methodically welcomed his guests to the organization he established to... combat bullying.
So Let's Face It
As I mentioned yesterday, Attal is launching his anti-bullying foundation “Faire Face”. The event, which took place at the Philanthro-Lab in Paris, brought together tech giants like Meta, alongside Education Minister Anne Genetet. “Faire Face”, which translates to “Face It”, aims to tackle the pervasive issue of school bullying, which affects an estimated two students per classroom in France.

Attal, the former Prime Minister and Minister of Education, co-founded “Faire Face” with Béatrice Le Blay, whose son tragically took his own life due to bullying, and Elian Potier, a former victim himself. They’re determined to use their platform to offer legal and psychological support to families affected by bullying. The foundation also plans to lobby for systemic change, a key concern for Attal, who believes that the current response to bullying is insufficient.
The launch coincided with the National Day Against School Bullying, marked annually on November 7th in France. Attal’s team has been careful to position “Faire Face” as a collaborative force, emphasizing that the foundation will not compete with existing anti-bullying organisations, but rather seeks to consolidate and amplify their work.
More on the party...
But Attal’s busy week doesn’t end there! He’s also making headlines for his political ambitions. We know that he's probably going to inherent the presidential party Renaissance. Regarding this new page, some in his entourage have jokingly remarked that Attal is "off to a good start!”, while others are pointing to his ability to “guarantee the political unity of his political family”. His deft handling of the transition within the EPR group, where he reportedly reached an “arrangement” with Élisabeth Borne (who was also eyeing the leadership role), suggests that he might just pull this off...or so we hope.
And... Future grilling
But let’s not forget, Attal’s political manoeuvring comes at a particularly fraught time for the French government. The public deficit is set to balloon to 6.1% of GDP this year, significantly exceeding initial projections. And who’s being blamed for this budgetary mess? Bruno Le Maire, the former Minister of Economy and Finance, who held the reins at Bercy for a whopping seven years He’s been accused of playing fast and loose with the numbers, particularly by those on the right.
But Le Maire has defended his record, pointing to the massive support packages deployed during the pandemic and subsequent crises, as well as disappointing tax revenues. He'll have a chance to reiterate his defence during a Senate hearing on Thursday, as part of a fact-finding mission investigating the public finance debacle. Attal himself, along with former Prime Minister Élisabeth Borne, will also be grilled by senators in the coming days.
Speaking of grilling, remember that Attal is scheduled to be questioned by the National Assembly on November 12th regarding potential abuse of power during his time as caretaking Prime Minister. Future hearings regarding the topic, if any, could also see the reappearance of his ex, Stephane Sejourne, then Minister of Europe and Foreign Affairs. Get ready for a reunion, and buckle your seatbelt.

State support may also undermine insurgent incentives to treat civilian populations with restraint, because civilians are viewed as dispensable rather than as the main sources of support. As Weinstein argues, for instance, insurgencies that must rely on local populations to finance the insurgency are much likelier to treat such populations with restraint and respect.
