idk what got into me but just thought about Jacob playing a ‘hunting game’ with little Bruce… like he tells Bruce to run and he’ll count to 5 and starts the ‘hunt’ imagine little Bruce running around in the forest while Jacob trails behind him with a hunting rifle ready to shoot at any moment it’s a way to train him with his stealth, is he fast enough to hide from a gunshot? Is good at sneaking around? Well the only way they could find out is if he returns at night without any bullets in his body. + he doesn’t let Bruce wear shoes and has to walk bare foot in the snow until his legs bleed

Here’s the thing— this? Would very much happen. We've seen Bruce’s mentors break him more for way less. There’s no childhood when you want to change the world. Especially when you keep failing at it.

But I don't think Jacob would present it as a game, or trick Bruce into thinking it is. Because his teachers didn't either.

Bruce couldn't be a child after what he went through, and they couldn't treat him like it.

One aspect of their dynamic I love is how ruthless it is in it’s transparency, how streamlined, how cruelly deliberate.

Bruce chose his road and Jacob walked him down on it. Was that the right choice? No. But it’s Bruce's choice all the same.

There's something extremely bitter in feeling understood by the worst man you know. When he's freezing in Russian woods, barefoot and bleeding and a little too tired to be human.

He's still the worst man when he patches his wounds and takes bullets out like Thomas would’ve. He's still the worst man when he makes soup for him, golden and hot and horribly good.

He's still a bad man, and Bruce wished he cared about that more.

who finds something that should be considered dangerous and

only for them to become friends with it

then get attacked so because of their bond it attacks to protect
