Shae is the smuggler, but she also definitely is NOT the smuggler. The female smuggler voice is 100% what Shae sounds like! But, the more I play through the smuggler story the more Shae is informing me that she actually does not want to do any of this. She wants to go on a fun lil road trip with her hippie friends to prove that Space Elvis Presley isn't dead (I am dead serious here) which is GREAT girl but I don't have the story writing skills to just make up that story for you..

Young Masriel au [part 7: making up]: in which Asriel has a hard time slipping away from the dinner table unnoticed to meet with Marisa alone. During their time together, Marisa is caught off guard by an unexpected confession and lies awake for hours after, thinking about what this means for them. It's obvious she's still angry about their sparring match at the dinner table, but he knows her well enough to see most of it is just show. She enjoys fighting with him just as much as he does, though it's a fine line they're walking. Carefully avoiding the topic of daemon separation or witches, they easily fall back into their usual banter, which soon evolves into more interesting activities. When she of course brings it up again, the word slips out of him without hesitation. Judging by the look on her face, it was the last thing she expected to come out of his mouth. The confession might've irrevocably changed something between them but he can't bring himself to care at this point.

Perilous Times by Thomas D. Lee was a fun take on a modern version of the Arthurian legends with the main theme being Sir Kay vs climate change

It has some passages like: "Hard to flee from sorrow in a country that’s haunted by the past. Ground waterlogged with memories at every step. Riding towards Manchester is riding towards guilt, the kind of guilt that he doesn’t have space for, alongside his grief."

But then it also has a lot of: "The first sign says, SECURE FRACKING FACILITY. Some kind of fortified brothel?" "I'm not taking life advice from a squirel who used to be racist." "Harsh but fair."

10/10, would recommend

🛝Did they get along with their sibling(s) in childhood? Do they now?

As far as I know, they all have and still do get along fairly well. Though Aisha and Ella have always been prone to petty fights over small things and often getting jealous of one another (usually over parental attention, or who gets what, or what belongs to who, etc).

🫴Did they have trouble with being asked to share their friends with their sibling(s) growing up? Vice versa?

IDK about Luna and Daniyal, but Aisha and Ella definitely had trouble with it (of course, lol). If they make a friend but the friend seems to spend more time with one of them than the other, there's definitely going to be some jealousy.

💗Do they prefer one side of the family more?

Haven't really thought about this yet, especially since both Evie's and Aiden's extended families need more work. At the very least, I know they get mega-excited whenever they visit (or get a visit from) Grandpa Scott because he's the embodiment of Superfun Granddad.

🙏Are there things about their family they wish were different?

It's entirely possible that there are kids in school who tease them when they talk about Daddy being the one who carries the babies. Even though in my hc the womb transplant process becomes very well-known and normalized, there are of course still people who think it's "wrong" or "unusual" or whatever.

So it's entirely possible one of them (probably Luna or Daniyal) experiences bullying/teasing/stigmas about it, leading to them wishing at one point (as a spontaneous in-the-moment thing) that all of the kids were adopted or that they just had Mommy be the one to get pregnant "like in a normal family".

😢Have they ever disappointed any member of their family? 😔Have any of their family members disappointed them?

Somewhat yes. I haven't thought of any specific scenarios, but I feel like it's bound to happen one way or another.

I definitely think both Aiden and Evie, having their own experiences with being unsure of themselves and being afraid of disappointing their loved ones, repeatedly learning that life and love are imperfect and require effort, learning to judge the severity of disappointments and figure out which hills are worth dying on... they both would be prepared for those sorts of scenarios, finding a way to properly communicate it to their kids when it happens (and not beat themselves up over it in the case of the latter). Of course they would feel the usual heartbreak or being upset when those kinds of things happen, just that they'd be more confident in their ability to manage the situations.
