The last thing she can clearly see is her ‘impenetrable’ shield shatter above them. Her grip tightens, closing around her staff as it splinters under the force of the attack against the spell, trying to keep it together, to keep the staff’s light shining bright to protect them. The staff in her hand crumbles into dust, carried away into the sky by the howling winds around them. Her light goes dark.
“NO!” Everything else is a muffled blur, involuntary shriek piercing through the air as the young princess desperately grasps at the specks in the sky. Trembling hands clasp around nothing, the final pieces slipping through her fingers no matter how tightly she holds on. It’s too far now. She can’t reach. It’s gone. The staff she’s had since childhood, the thing she’s built her whole life around, the last piece of a Nohr ruled by the kind father she never got to meet, the last remnant that had been entrusted to her — is gone.
“This is a suuuper special staff, just for you, Elise. It’s very important, so take good care of it, okay?”
Her face feels wet.
She feels something hit her, she thinks. She feels herself get knocked back. She feels someone grab her. Something else hits her. She isn’t sure what’s going on.
Everything hurts.
She’s tired.
She wants to go home.
Everything starts to go dark again. She doesn’t like the dark.
“I’m.. sorry… everyone…”

It really is unsettling just how full circle they’ve come now, finding herself standing once again in the very place this horrible nightmare began for her. She doesn’t know if she’ll ever be able to take this path through the mountains ever again.
She only hopes the similarities start and end with the location, and not the outcome.
Princess flinches even from behind the relative safety of behind the professor, hands shaking once again as they clutch her staff. She can feel it crack within her palms, and she takes a deep breath. It held out for longer than it should’ve. She wonders if her siblings were proud she managed to keep it safe so long. She hopes they won’t be too disappointed in her.
As the enemy steps away to charge another attack, she steps forward, taking the place of the man who once shielded them both to now become the shield herself. It’s the least she can do.
Unit 7 chooses to defend.
Light raises high in the air, a weak shield surrounding the group of strangers she found herself with like a bubble. A spell that’s supposed to be impenetrable, or so she was told. But ‘Impenetrability’ means nothing when her staff is crumbling to dust with every second it remains active. She doesn’t know if she can absorb the full hit like this, but she has a duty to try, right? That’s what royalty’s supposed to do. Help people. “Everyone huddle together, please! I can’t spread this very far!”
