Suricate - Son nom est dérivé du mot "surikate" attesté en 1765 chez Buffon, qui l'aurait emprunté à une langue d'Afrique du Sud, l'animal étant indigène de cette région.

Meerkats are small mammals from southern Africa, known for their social nature and iconic behavior. Standing at around 12 to 14 inches, they live in tight-knit groups, foraging for insects, small rodents, and fruit. With pointed faces, round ears, and large eyes, they display remarkable cooperative behavior, with designated sentinels keeping watch for predators while others search for food. Their extensive underground burrow systems offer protection, and their vocal communication includes various calls for different situations. Meerkats' endearing habits, such as standing upright to survey their surroundings, have made them beloved symbols of teamwork and resilience in popular culture.
