Inspired by a artifact weapon in the Wildermyth (amazing Indie game, go look it up!) that had a Swiftcast feature that let you interfuse with an object for free. I wondered what a swift cast might look like in D&D. Sorcerer can speed up a spell from an action to a bonus action. But, what about getting a free spell cast in there somewhere?
Swiftcast Scepter
Wondrous Item, very rare
“This magic wand looks like it could be the horn of a unicorn, but is made of a coral material. It’s rough and coarse to the touch. The bottom of it has been rounded out and smoothed down for an easy and comfortable grip.”
This scepter is imbued with magic that affects the way arcane energies interact with time. If you're a spellcaster, you can use this as a spellcasting focus.
While holding this scepter, you gain a +2 bonus to spell attack rolls.
Swiftcast. You can use the magic of this scepter to swiftly cast a spell a few seconds into the future. On your turn, you can cast one additional spell that has a casting time of one action, on top of your regular action. You can do this even if you’ve already cast another leveled spell.
The spell goes into effect at the start of your next turn, and does not prevent you from casting another leveled spell on that turn. Once you use this property, you must finish a long rest before you can use it again.

We had extremely clean runs of M5-M8 this morning, and I was worried everyone was good at the fights now that a week had passed, but this afternoon proved that the raids remain as Exciting as ever

considering reworking m'seyli to be a scholar but like horse girl edition. she's got a special bond with her chocobo she raised from a chick and instead of a fairy she's supplementing her own healing ability with hashbrown's chococure and Powerful Horsebird Kicks To Enemy Groins. everything she tries to summon inexplicably is shaped like a chocobo. it's so silly but that's her whole thing babey and it matches pictomancer krile's level of silly too. and comes with the bonus of her not looking like shit in her job gear anymore.

It *really* depends on the skill and the text itself (I play with UI sound effects off, so that doesn't come into it). Incomprehensible uwu speak that's only tangentially related to the skill on your entire DPS rotation? Please just stop pressing buttons, it's not worth it, I'd rather just carry you. An insulting raise macro about how you're a waste of their mana? Yeah, I'm blocking them and considering a report if it's really bad. A joke I don't think is funny that informs me that an actually relevant thing, like an invuln or a raise, is happening? It's your hydaelyn-given right to make unfunny jokes!
Basically a macro needs to do three things: 1.) Inform the group of something that at least one person might benefit from knowing (raise and invuln definitely, dragooon eyeball tether maybe, your 123 rotation absolutely not). 2.) Be comprehensible. Ideally it should use the actual name of the skill. It MUST use a commonly understood term for the skill. If it can only be understood by people who have seen a certain anime or who can translate uwuspeak on the fly, it's a bad macro. Much of the incomprehensibility can be remedied by simply including the skill name in autotext somewhere in there. (autotext makes it comprehensible to players who speak a different language, too) 3.) Not be insulting, meanspirited, or otherwise inappropriate to say to a complete stranger
My rez macros (I have a collection of them) are things like "meow meow! <raising> <target>". If someone thinks my meowing is cringy, they can cringe. But the macro clearly tells people that I've got that raise handled, and does so without insulting anyone.
Poll for fellow FFXIV players:
What are your thoughts on people who have macro texts with their actions in battle? Things like a WHM having a Raise macro like "Now raising <target name>!"
If I miss an option, feel free to speak your piece in the post's comments.
(Ay it's my first poll!)

[Time-wise, occurs shortly after the end of 7.0.]
"A moment if you would, Ahru. I… actually have a gift for you."
They were just preparing to leave his apartment when he called to her, retreating back into his room. She blinked slowly before following after him, watching as he reached into the high shelf in his closet.
A small fragment of her mind wondered briefly when he would have had the time to get her a present - but she caught herself before she foolishly let those words slip out.
"It's been collecting dust up here for a while now, but when I saw it at the auction, I couldn't stop myself. I simply knew it had to be yours."
Her ears twitched, detecting the somber hint of far deeper sentiments behind his words. No matter how much time passed, no matter what he had to do to get it to her, 'it had to be hers'. In that way, the gift was then, perhaps, just as much a lodestone by which he charted his course forward.
"You were attending auctions?" A smile tugged at her lips and she tilted her head curiously, watching as he pulled down a long, thin box. By the shape of it alone, her mind raced to eager conclusions.
The look he gave her was strangely more guarded than she would have expected, and it hurt a little. A knowing smirk, a glint in his eyes - and the slightest furrow of his brow, betraying secret exploits and adventures he had yet to share with her. Perhaps he never would.
"It was… a charity event. I also walked away with valuable intel." His explanation was a touch stiff, and it was clear he didn't intend to speak further on it as he held the box out towards her. "Go ahead."
Her worries about all the things he'd done and endured would take as much time to work through as unveiling those things in the first place. For the moment, she let herself be distracted by his gift, a thrill of excitement buzzing through her as she moved to lift the lid.
Within laid a sword of ancient Alexandrian make, or so she presumed - though it looked to be made from electrope, it obviously wasn't anything like their modern weapons. Her eyes widened as she took in it's features, unceremoniously dropping the lid (to which Alphinaud snorted) as her fingers twitched towards the blade and its hilt.
"Twas the weapon of a vaunted knight of Alexandria, said to have quelled countless threats in her time. Though, as you might imagine given the current state of their society, few of the finer details survived to this day and age."
Taking it into her hands, the weight of it felt superb. For however ancient it must have been, it had been brilliantly preserved, no doubt in part to it's own materials, and the technologies Alexandria now possessed. She grinned as she watched the way the light moved over the black blade, lines of color gleaming when it moved just so, shifting from deep purples to reds and blues. Turning, she gave it a tight, sharp sweep up to shoulder level, before giving it a twirl.
"How do you like it?" He watched as her eyes sparkled, betraying the answer, but greedily he wanted to hear it all the same.
"It's amazing." She beamed at him, barely able to restrain her enthusiasm. She ran a finger along the blades edge, feeling the ever-so-slight, not-yet-unpleasant thrum of an electric current buzzing against her skin. "You can tell it was made with a lot of care. Gorgeous, but not at the cost of it's utility."
Tumblr media
After I made the comment "He knows what she likes" one thought led to another and I laughed to myself like "yeah, and he gets her the best gifts. shiny new weapons with no expense spared." and you see where this led. 😂 Purposefully kind of vague on weapon description/whose it was to possibly leave myself some wiggle room with it in the future. 🤔
