Updated card!

The illustration for our Shroud of Shadows was finally completed by @butturdapple! Let us know what you think! <3
Shroud of Shadows
Armor (leather or hide armor), very rare (requires attunement)
“This leather armor set is made of several layers of dark hides that have shadows and dark mist seeping off of them. There’s a trail of ancient necromancy runes that adorn the arms of the armor. Fashioned into the leathers on the chest and ribs are ancient bones from a once powerful Lich.”
You gain a +2 bonus to AC and resistance to necrotic damage while attuned to this armor. Using a bonus action you can hide in dim light. You can use your movement to teleport through dim light or darkness a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus. This property recharges on a short or a long rest. You have advantage on death saving throws. Undead creatures must succeed on a DC 18 Wisdom (Insight) check or sense you as an undead creature.

Magic Item: Ring of Turn into Muppet
Upon equipping and attuning to this item, you become a Small felt puppet. While a puppet, you have the following attributes:
-Immune to Bludgeoning, Force, and Poison damage (but vulnerable to Fire damage)
-Ability to summon useful items from Hammerspace
-Mechanic similar to Wild Magic Surges, during which you can cause any effect you want as long as you can convince the DM that it would be funny.
#d&d magic items#homebrew magic items#you also have to flail your arms around and go “WHAAAAAAAAAA!!!” a lot

I've been homebrewing SO MANY THINGS lately. Here's the current list of stuff I've made in the past week:
Ring of Greater Protection (general use)
Bracelet of Thorns (made for my thorn-themed melee ranger concept)
Abyssal Grimoire (made for the wizard in my Saturday party.)
Full Moon Shotgun + Magma Drake Shotgun (two items made for the gunslinger in my Saturday party.)
And also some 3-tier scaling magic items based on the structure for the Vestiges from EGW and TCSR.
Caia's Thorn (rapier, made for the same thorn-themed melee ranger as above)
Fyren's Quarry (longbow, made for a gloomstalker ranger.)
Moriata (pepperbox/revolver, made for a gunslinger who also has one or two levels in warlock.)
#some day I will post all the homebrew things I've made.#I'd love to share them and let other people use them.#Since I'll never use most of these myself.#morrigan.text#dnd#morrigan plays dnd#dnd homebrew#homebrew magic items#I wish I had the skills to make pretty item cards like some amazing artists on here do.#cause I have some very clear visions of what some of these items look like.#but I am unfortunately broke as shit#and I can't afford to commission someone for all these item designs.#maybe someday I'll partner with an artist and make some homebrew cards.#that would be the dream tbh.

As usual, Google is failing me, and I sort of get why, but I'm going to ask here anyway.
In one of my D&D games, my character -- a yuan-ti cleric -- is making the party break-in-case-of-emergency tattoos out of her snake scales (or maybe crow feathers, if that doesn't work). I want to draw them, maybe (I'm terrible at drawing) and I know real scales are hard to write on, but I want to see an example of someone having written or carved letters/runes on snake scales, whether real or imaginary, and all I can find is instructing for carving the scales, or drawing them.
I basically want them to say glaoch badb which is maybe a lot, so maybe just badb. It's not necessary, like, it could just be the Glaoch Badb Tattoo and involve no writing at all, but now I'm legitimately curious because surely someone out there has used shed scales in art? I can't even find that! Edit: okay I did find that. Still not helpful.
Help me, tumblr.

Critter Caster – Wondrous item, very rare
This inconspicuous token was in fact created solely for recreational purpose – as a tiny theatre for cheerful plays so to say. However, some cunning adventurers are rumored to use it in rather sinister ways – be it as a distraction or a trap.

Vial of Archfey Blood
Consumable, very rare (requires attunement)
“A crystalline vial containing a dose of golden swirling Archfey blood. This blood was willingly given by the Archfey, and thus, it holds greater magical properties than it would otherwise.”
Consuming this potion grants you a permanent boon, allowing you to cast the Misty Step spell without expending a spell slot. Once you cast this spell, you cannot cast it again until you finish a Long Rest.
Keepsake. A vial of Archfey blood is a powerful item and radiates magic. If you attune to and keep this vial on you, you are Immune to Divination magic such as the Scrying spell. Additionally, if you fail a saving throw against a spell or magical effect, you can choose to succeed instead. Once you have used this property of the vial, you can’t use it again until the next dawn.
Whether you consume, or attune to this vial your creature type registers as Fey to spells and other effects that detect the presence of the Fey creature type.

I made a custom magic item for a DND campaign I'm in! I'm sure there's other similar items but I like how this came out so I'll share it. ^^
The Heart-Set Compass When held, this golden compass will point in the direction of the holder's greatest, truest desire. When placed down, it will continue to point in the same direction until someone else picks it up. Written around the edge of the face is an inscription in Sylvan: "Not all who wander are lost - Let your heart guide your steps - Your deepest wish or hidden dream - May your way forward be revealed"
#dnd#dnd homebrew#magic item#bonus trivia the letters on the compass are written in moontype#it was a precursor to braille to help the visually impaired read

D&D Concept: The Sword in the Tarrasque
Absolute Monarchies can be tricky things, unless you happen to have a One True King, preferably with a magic sword that’s a good judge of character. Fortunately, our kingdom has one of those. Or, well. Had. The King’s Sword turns things to stone. It’ll turn you to stone too, if you try to use it without being the One True King. Most folks let go of it fast enough that it’s reversible. And yes, Wizards have been debating for decades about how exactly it knows, with everything from reincarnation to recessive traits to sentient metal being thrown around. The result is that we’ve had centuries of great kings, with the occasional bad apple when someone hides the sword or drops it in a lake. For the record, we didn’t lose the sword this time, we know exactly where it is.
A stone Tarrasque.
The last One True King used it to fight a Tarrasque that was threatening the capitol, about sixty years ago. See that hill over there? It’s not a hill. We tried all the obvious things to get it back. But it turns out that stone Tarrasques are just as durable as regular ones, so trying to break it up will just break your hammer. And, here’s the thing: the Wizards are pretty sure the Tarrasque is still alive in there.
So yeah, we're going to be stuck with normal rulers for a while.
One more thing, in case you get any bright ideas: the Sword is stabbed into the roof of the Tarrasque’s mouth.

A random homebrew magic item because I just really enjoy eldritch light. As a concept. Light that is a weapon, light that is terrible. Also, bullseye lanterns look really cool?
Homebrew 5e Magic Item: The Baleful Glare
Wonderous Item, Requires Attunement
This battered black bullseye lantern, which has hooks to clip onto a belt, looks completely ordinary, save that its light compartment is sealed shut by a thick rust that no chisel or magic can remove. This is not a problem, however, as the lantern does not appear to require oil to work. Once attuned, the lantern can be lit or unlit by simple mental command, no action required. The lantern casts bright light in a 60ft cone and dim light for an additional 60ft, as do others of its kind.
Unlike others of its kind, this lantern can also be induced to shed a different, more fearsome form of light. As an action, the bearer can touch the lantern and bid it reveal its true, terrible glory. All creatures within the 60ft cone of bright light shed by the lantern are then forced to make a DC 18 Wisdom saving throw. On a failed save, they take 12d4 radiant damage and are frightened of the lantern for 1 minute, convinced that something vast and remorseless and terrible behind the light can see them. On a successful save, they take half as much damage and are not frightened. Any creature who critically fails this save becomes stunned as long as they are within the area of the bright light for 1 minute.
This action can be used by the bearer up to three times before they require a long rest to safely use it again. If the action is used more than three times between long rests, the bearer takes a level of exhaustion for each use, as the terrible light within the lantern begins to wear on them as well as their foes.
What terrible force has been sealed behind the battered metal walls of this vessel? Is there some vast and terrible thing that looks out from it? And if so, what?

Providing an unlimited supply of bandages, slings and gauze, this bag is a godsend for healers looking to explore remote places, far from any source of aid. Just make sure you don't lose any of the vials! They are attuned to their bag at creation, and cannot be replaced by vials from a different bag.
