Arab-American Voters in Michigan Waver Over Kamala Harris's Stance on Gaza
At the Sahara Restaurant in Dearborn, Michigan, the atmosphere contrasts starkly with the grim images of war and devastation in Gaza on the Arabic-language news channels. Patrons enjoy cardamom-infused coffee, shawarma, and falafel, but their conversations are shadowed by the conflict in the Middle East.
Dearborn, the first Arab-majority city in the U.S., is a critical hub of political activity, particularly among the "uncommitted" voters who have grown increasingly dissatisfied with the Biden administration’s Middle East policies. Michigan, a swing state that President Joe Biden narrowly won in 2020, could once again play a pivotal role in the upcoming election, and Arab-American voters in Dearborn may hold the key to Kamala Harris’s political future.
Tumblr media
Sam Hammoud, who has run the Sahara Restaurant with his family for 30 years, voiced his concerns. Although rising taxes and inflation have impacted his business, they are not what drive his indecision as a voter. "It’s about the situation in our homelands," he explained. "We need a ceasefire. There is no ceasefire."
Hammoud's frustration is shared by many Arab-Americans in Michigan, who have been warning Democrats that their support can no longer be taken for granted. The "Uncommitted Movement," comprised of traditionally Democratic voters, announced it would not endorse Harris, criticizing her refusal to shift on U.S. weapons policy or to take a clear stance on human rights issues in the region.
Soujoud Hamade, a lawyer and president of the Michigan Chapter of the Arab American Bar Association, campaigned for Biden in 2020 but now plans to vote for Green Party candidate Jill Stein. A recent poll by the Council on American-Islamic Relations found that 40% of Muslim voters in Michigan support Stein, while Harris garnered just 12%. Hamade stated that many traditionally Democratic voters “cannot stomach the thought of voting for someone who's directly contributing to the death and destruction of our home country and relatives overseas.”
The endorsement Harris received from former Vice-President Dick Cheney, a key figure in the 2003 Iraq invasion, has only deepened the unease within the community. "It's disheartening," said Hamade. "These aren't the values we stood for as Democrats."
Dr. Maisa Hider-Beidoun, a business owner and lifelong Democrat, finds herself in a moral dilemma. "We are good Americans, but our money is being funneled overseas, killing people related to us," she said.
During the Michigan Democratic primary, over 100,000 voters in the Arab-American community registered as "uncommitted" in protest of the Biden-Harris stance on Gaza. Although they oppose Trump, they also remain wary of Harris, believing her words of empathy lack meaningful action.
The broader regional conflict, including recent explosions in Lebanon, has intensified the community's concerns. For people like Faye Nemer, who fled Lebanon as a child, the situation hits close to home. She struggles to focus on daily life while worrying about family members still living in Lebanon. Nemer, a lifelong Democrat, is also undecided on how she will vote.
Arab-American voters, who number 3.5 million in the U.S., hold significant sway in battleground states like Michigan and Wisconsin. Dr. Mona Mawari, a community organizer, emphasized the importance of casting a vote, saying, “Sitting this one out is not an option.” The 2024 election may hinge on whether Democrats can address the concerns of these voters.

Müttersterblichkeit in USA steigt

Obama Campaigns for Harris in Critical Pennsylvania to Boost Support
Tumblr media
Obama Campaigns for Harris in Critical Pennsylvania to Boost Support Former President Barack Obama held a get-out-the-vote rally for Kamala Harris on Thursday night, aiming to energize Democratic supporters as the party battles Republican Donald Trump in the closing weeks of the campaign. As voting commenced in the crucial battleground state of Pennsylvania, Obama adapted his iconic rallying cry from his presidency, transforming “Yes, We Can” into “Yes, She Can,” prominently displayed on a screen above the crowd. Obama acknowledged the challenges Americans have faced in recent years, particularly due to the pandemic and rising costs affecting working families. “I get why people are looking to shake things up,” he stated, emphasizing his understanding of the public’s frustration and desire for better leadership. He characterized Trump as disconnected from the American people, labeling him a “bumbling” billionaire who has been “whining about his problems” since he announced his first campaign in 2015. The rally at the University of Pittsburgh marked Obama’s first campaign appearance for Harris as he embarks on a tour of swing states on her behalf. Last month, he attended a Harris fundraiser in California and previously spoke at the Democratic National Convention in August. Now eight years out of office, Obama remains a key figure for the Democratic Party, effectively mobilizing voters. While Joe Biden, his former vice president, historically played this role, he has refrained from campaigning since stepping back to allow Harris to lead the ticket. As the nation’s first Black president, Biden’s support for Harris highlights the historic significance of her candidacy. If elected, Harris would be the first woman, Black person, or individual of South Asian descent to serve as president. Glenda Ellison, a 71-year-old retired schoolteacher and Democrat from Pittsburgh, expressed her nervousness about the election but remains hopeful. She views Obama as a powerful spokesperson who can sway undecided voters in favor of Harris. “As a former president, especially a Black president, I think that connection with the African American community is important,” said Ellison. Obama has also played a role in encouraging Biden to withdraw from the 2024 race, as he and Harris have maintained a friendship for over two decades, dating back to her Senate campaign in Illinois. Pennsylvania is a significant state for Democrats, having been won by Obama in 2008 and 2012, but flipped to Trump in 2016. Biden narrowly secured it in 2020, making it a focal point in this year’s election. Trump campaigned in eastern Pennsylvania recently, holding rallies in Scranton and Reading, and returning to Butler, where he faced an assassination attempt in July. Obama’s appearance also aimed to support Pennsylvania Senator Bob Casey, who is facing a challenge from Trump-endorsed Republican David McCormick. Earlier, Obama visited a campaign office in Pittsburgh, where he brought pastries for volunteers and expressed gratitude for their efforts. “I’m excited because Allegheny County needs him to promote Harris and Walz, to build momentum and get those blue votes out,” said Sherry Werner, a 60-year-old University of Pittsburgh Medical Center employee. Wearing a Harris button, Werner noted the increased enthusiasm among supporters compared to previous years, highlighted by the long lines of people eager to attend the event. “Who doesn’t love Obama?” she remarked. Keywords: Obama, Kamala Harris, Pennsylvania, get-out-the-vote rally, Democratic Party, Donald Trump, swing states, 2024 election, voter mobilization, African American community, Bob Casey, campaign support. I can't believe I'm seeing multiple videos using the No Kings protests as proof to back up conspiracy theories that Trump didn't win certain swingstates/didn't win as a whole
Do I have to spell it out that the 2024 election was in 2024? That it's not 2024 anymore, guess what, it's 2025. That, I dunno, time has fucking passed?? Trump wasn't in office during that election, it hadn't been months of his approval TANKING and him becoming underwater in every issue!
Let me introduce to you: ✨The Passage Of Time!✨ Where Anything Can Happen! Including Trump pissing off more and more people since his inauguration!
The No Kings Protests are an amazing demonstration from millions of people showing we are fed up with this administration and Trump's actions. It is NOT proof of election results that happened Before his inauguration this year.
To suggest so is not only frankly stupid, but encourages ignoring the very real reasons why we didn't win in 2024. Which includes the fact that the amount of people who didn't vote were a REAL NAIL IN THE COFFIN! THAT PEOPLE WHO COULD HAVE BUT DIDNT MADE UP MORE PEOPLE THAN BOTH PARTIES IIRC
He won in 2024 because of racism, sexism, gerrymandering, the fact he hadn't been in office for 4 years and many just forgot his harm, a shift to conservatism seen everywhere in the US reflected in the swing states especially, because Biden's economy was not perfect making Harris look bad too, because PEOPLE DIDNT VOTE, etc etc etc

"Harris would have gained at least another 3,565,000 votes"
People of Color wahlentscheidend waren.
