Have you watched TCND? I've just started and thought he did an amazing job. Very organic/natural way to play a dad for a childless guy. However I truly hope he will manage to get roles without playing the eternal beautiful/sexy/naked dude in every movie he does.
Dear TCND Anon,
Yes, I did. I even wrote a short overview, here: https://www.tumblr.com/sgiandubh/735886516470022144/the-couple-next-door-a-very-very-short-overview?source=share
I completely agree, as far as 'playing dad' goes. Totally organic/natural. Funny thing, that, for a fatherless guy, overall (you can hardly call an irresponsible father a father, don't you?).
I still stick to every single word I wrote almost one year ago.

The couple next door
Here's my review of TCND. I will keep it spoiler free!
Let's first say: I absolutely loved it!
And I didn't expect to. I'm not at all a fan of "sexy thrillers", but this one actually turned out to be so surprising and unexpected, that I really loved it.
Also I started the show expecting to want Evie and Danny to become a couple and that I also expected that I wouldn't really like Danny that much. I expected him to be flawed and problematic.
But let's just say I was wrong. I won't say who I rooted for in the end, but I shipped them hard!
The acting is fantastic all around. I think it's Sam's best work except for Outlander. There were two scenes in it where he made me cry. I didn't see neither Sam nor Jamie in any of the scenes. He's absolutely gorgeous in it, but also so so good.
But all the other actors are fantastic, too. I was just glued to my TV for all six episodes and couldn't stop watching. I didn't forward, I didn't flinch or scroll my phone in-between. I was actually afraid to start the last episode so emotionally involved was I at that point.
Great, unusual TV show. Five stars by me
I have to add though: I can't imagine a second season. How would this possibly work? I can't see this repeated.

I'm sure people will comment "but I saw pics of Sam and Eleanor taking pics with fans!" My source does say that Sam and Eleanor stopped for fan pics at the beginning, I'm assuming by the time they got to her specific area, they weren't able to stop anymore. Anyhoo, here are pics she took that she shared with me. Please don't remove my tag if you repost. Thanks.

Let’s just throw it down here. Sam has chosen the continuous loop of booze appearances and the chase for whisky success over future proofing his acting longevity.
Sam could have established a production company while still filming and earning his very generous salary from OL and associated enterprises. He could have secured books and scripts that appeal to his adventurous nature and worked to get projects underway in his haitus and also taken on smaller character roles to add to his body of work. Instead he chose MIK and a ghost written semi memoir.
Coulda should’ve.
Instead he is hooked on the adulation and income from SS. He will never reach a whisky audience outside of the OL SS community because his rusted on OL fans make it near impossible for anyone who isn’t an obsessive fan to get into the tastings and the promo roadshow.
Sam has always been a Starz TPTB pleaser. Caitriona has always held back and at times shown her scorn for Starz/Lionsgate and fans. Sam allowed himself to be the poster boy heartthrob with regular appearances especially to his 🇺🇸 fans. To his career detriment he failed to build a bigger 🇬🇧 film/series portfolio because he spent so much time in the 🇺🇸 promoting his booze in the last two seasons of OL.
So when you look at the roles Lauren and Rik have played and of course Caitriona’s 3 film roles it’s bleak. TCND was not a linchpin to more UK /EU work and it wasn’t a commercial or critical success.
Tobias and Sam are different men and different actors. One lives a life off SM and works continuously in diverse roles. The other needs SM for business and the adulation that feeds from his booze cons and appearances.
Macbeth has sold out for its season. Sadly for Sam it’s all the same OL fans who have once again made it impossible for the ordinary RSC members to secure tickets to see him in his return to theatre work.
So will he be at SDCC to promote 💣 absolutely.

The Couple Next Door - a very, very short overview and my 50 cents, in the process
With as little spoilers as possible. My first plan was to make a post per episode, but I quickly realized that would be useless (so much talking, already, plus a very plethoric press ) and risky (the more you write about it, the less able you are to avoid spoiling it and no, that is not this page's editorial line). You will have to do with this short review, instead.
This is the story of a botched swinger coupling experiment, somewhere in the middle of a non-descript, Truman Show-esque Midlands suburbia. Where nothing is what it seems to be and curtains always flutter for a reason. Adjacent storylines complement this sexy & risqué core, which I personally found more interesting than S puffing and panting on top of Tomlinson. Corruption, life crisis situations, lost late pregnancies, a hidden child, bigot parents looking not unlike Grant Wood's American Gothic odd couple (especially the mother, enough spoiling it), voyeurism and privacy violations - this is a LOT to take in. With a bit more tact when it comes to script writing (sometimes things are really in your face and almost didactic: never a good thing), it could have been BAFTA material. It is not, and no, Disgruntled Tumblrettes - not because of S, but because of numerous plot holes, useless plot devices that could have been gags but totally miss the mark (walking little old lady, anyone?) and an overall superficial approach. It's like trying to cram half a dressing into a carry on: burst at the seams it will or you will end up with odd bits and pieces that do not necessarily make sense.
So if you set your bar very high or are poised to watch it in contempt, this is not going to be fun at all. If you have no expectations and also no idea about the rest of the cast, you will find it interesting and enjoyable. I personally think Enoch is a perfect cast, as is the very intelligent Jessica de Gouw: she knows how it's done and she knows where and especially when to stop. Tomlinson, eh - not so much. I have zero idea about how she fared in Poldark, but here I found her inattentive, formulaic and totally cliché. She has some good intuitions, but she fails to deliver, especially at the end. So, that's a 4/10 for me.
Now for S, as I am sure you are all interested to know. After all, this is why I even bothered watching and getting a paid VPN for it. I will say only this: there is a before Episode 3 and an after Episode 3, by far superior. You'll get my point when you watch it. It's not OL, but thank Heavens, it's not Where the Starlight Ends, either. With all the indulgence in the world, I'd say 8,5/10 - not his fault, the script was brutal to Danny ('Take a good look' is a major, MAJOR eyeroll and it did make me spit my Coke). Also, that intergalactic arse makes it on screen for about 5 minutes, which is nothing- so long for Mordor's honest reviews. Last but not least: he tried, bless his heart, to help Eleanor, but to no avail. Sorry.
The most interesting secondary storyline is Alan's, by far. The press shite - meh, that was there just to give Enoch's character a job, I suppose. And the child - it left me completely hungry and there was definitely room for more.
Rewatch? Christ, no.
Overall? a solid 7/10.
Recommend? not to my mum, but to my best -offline shipper- friend, for sure. She'll watch for S and we'll cackle over the phone.
Potential springboard? I hope so, but he still needs a real, well written role. This is decently good, but still not good enough to showcase what I know he is perfectly able to deliver.
Home eye candy takeaway? Oh, come on, the one involving this item:

I mean, what is more sexy than a bear of a man carrying a washing machine like I would carry my purse?

Hiii!
If you’re up for it, I have a question — I am quite new to the fandom, so where do you think Sam and Caitríona are with each other right now? Do you think they’re together and just waiting for the right moment to announce it, or what do you think is going on? And apart from the obvious, do you have any material that points toward a relationship between them?
P.S. Happy holidays if you celebrate!!! ❤️
Hello Nonnie!
I think that Sam and Caitriona have been together since early in their Outlander adventure, and married since 2015. Will they announce it after Outlander has ended? I don't know. That said, Caitriona has recently acted as though she's ready for the Narrative to end. She's had her hands all over Sam during promo. Sam, on the other hand, has acted much more reserved, perhaps since he still has ties to Starz through TCND. I've read he even has a handler watching him at events. That alone would make me nervous.
I would love for the Narrative to end sooner than later, but that's not up to me. I dislike how it's negatively affected Outlander (think Season 4 and Sam and Cait's obvious discomfort touching each other) and outwardly tarnished what used to be such a beautiful love.
As far as material with clues as to their relationship, I'll immediately post one of my most popular posts from the past for you to peruse. It's titled "This is my SamCait love story, and I'm sticking to it!" (I don't know how to attach it to this post.)
Thanks for the question, Anon. Buckle your seatbelt, as the SS SamCait has been known to hit rocky waters! For me, I have faith in what I've always seen and simply ignore the nonsense.
Happy holidays to you and yours.
