Umar Farooq Zahoor Supports UAE’s Policy on SIM & Emirates ID Expiry
Tumblr media
As a responsible resident and businessman, Umar Farooq Zahoor believes that linking SIM cards to Emirates ID is a necessary step to prevent fraud and unauthorized use. This regulation helps authorities track ownership, avoid illegal activities, and ensure that mobile services are used responsibly.
What Happens When Your Emirates ID Expires?
If your Emirates ID expires, your mobile network provider (Etisalat, Du, or Virgin Mobile) will take steps to notify you in advance. Here’s what happens:
✅ 30-Day Warning Message: You will receive an SMS alert at least 30 days before your Emirates ID expires, reminding you to renew it.
✅ Gradual Restrictions: If you fail to renew your ID before the deadline, your SIM may first face limited services, such as the inability to make calls, send messages, or use data.
✅ Full Deactivation: If your Emirates ID is not renewed in time, your SIM card will be blocked completely. You will not be able to use the number until you update your Emirates ID with your telecom provider.
Why Is This Policy Important?
Umar Farooq Zahoor emphasizes the importance of this policy as it helps in:
🔹 Preventing SIM Misuse: Stolen or expired SIMs cannot be used illegally. 🔹 Ensuring Security: Every mobile number is registered to a valid ID, reducing identity theft. 🔹 Encouraging Compliance: It ensures that all residents keep their official documents up to date.
How to Avoid SIM Deactivation?
To prevent any inconvenience, follow these steps:
✔ Renew your Emirates ID on time through the ICP website or government service centres. ✔ Update your telecom provider (Etisalat, Du, or Virgin Mobile) with your new ID details. ✔ Check for Grace Periods: Some networks may allow a short grace period before full deactivation. ✔ Reactivate If Needed: If your SIM is blocked, visit your provider with your renewed Emirates ID for reactivation.
Final Thoughts
Umar Farooq Zahoor strongly advocates for responsible SIM card usage and compliance with UAE regulations. Ensuring that every SIM is linked to a valid Emirates ID helps maintain national security, prevents fraud, and protects users from identity misuse.
Stay responsible, renew on time, and keep your mobile services active!

Implementation of Stringent Standards for Electronic Products: A Technical and Environmental Necessity
The exponential growth of the electronics industry has brought with it a range of benefits in terms of connectivity and efficiency, but has also raised concerns about quality, safety, and sustainability. In this context, the imposition of stringent standards for electronic products has become an undeniable technical and environmental requirement for importing countries, aiming to protect the environment, public health, and economic interests.
Environmental Protection: Electronic products often contain a range of hazardous substances, such as heavy metals and toxic chemicals, which pose a threat to the environment when improperly disposed of. The imposition of quality standards during importation reduces the influx of defective or obsolete devices, consequently minimizing the volume of electronic waste and associated risks of environmental pollution.
Electronic Waste Management:
Effective electronic waste management is crucial to avoid environmental damage and preserve natural resources. Importing low-quality or disposable electronic products can overwhelm recycling and waste treatment systems in importing countries, leading to environmental contamination and additional costs for managing these materials. The enforcement of quality standards contributes to the adoption of more responsible production and consumption practices.
Public Health and Consumer Safety: Defective or low-quality electronic products pose significant risks to public health and consumer safety. Damaged or poorly designed components can result in safety failures, causing fires, explosions, or other forms of harm. The imposition of quality standards during importation ensures the integrity and reliability of products available in the market, protecting citizens from these potential risks.
Sustainable Development: Importing low-quality or disposable electronic products contradicts the efforts of importing countries to promote sustainable development. These products often have a short lifespan and contribute to a culture of excessive consumption and rapid disposal. The requirement for standards that promote the production and consumption of durable, repairable, and resource-efficient products is essential to achieve a greener and more circular economy.
Conclusion: In summary, the implementation of stringent standards for electronic products during importation is crucial to ensure the quality, safety, and sustainability of these products. In addition to protecting the environment, public health, and economic interests of importing countries, this measure contributes to the promotion of more responsible production and consumption practices. Through the adoption of higher technical and environmental standards, we can build a more sustainable and prosperous future for all involved in the international trade of electronic products.

Apple’s Strategy for European Tech Regulations Revealed: Sideloading with Fees
Tumblr media
As Europe gears up for enforcing new tech regulations, Apple is strategizing for a future where sideloading, allowing users to download apps from sources outside the App Store, will be required. While Apple has not disclosed the specifics of its sideloading process, recent reports from The Wall Street Journal suggest that the tech giant intends to collect fees from developers offering downloads outside the App Store. This move aligns with Apple’s recent adjustment to its US App Store policies, which now permit in-app purchases bypassing the App Store’s billing system.
Sideloading Limited to EU iOS Users
According to the reports, sideloading will be limited to iOS users within the European Union to comply with the Digital Markets Act set to take effect on March 7. Despite Apple’s plan not being finalized, this approach mirrors the recent changes in the US App Store, where developers are now allowed to incorporate in-app purchases outside the App Store’s billing system but are subject to a significant 27% commission on such transactions (with smaller developers facing a 12% commission).
Potential Criticism and App Developer Reactions
Apple’s move to charge developers for sideloading may trigger criticism similar to the backlash faced after the US App Store policy changes. The updated tech regulations also grant Apple the authority to audit developers’ records to ensure compliance. This development has drawn criticism from major players like Epic Games and Spotify, both vocal opponents of the App Store’s restrictive rules and fees.
Big Tech Braces for New EU Tech Regulations
youtube
Digital Markets Act Enforcement and Industry Readiness
The Digital Markets Act is poised to be enforced soon, and Apple, despite not revealing its full compliance plan, is already under scrutiny from companies that have previously clashed with Cupertino over its app store policies. Spotify, a longstanding critic of the App Store’s commission structure, has provided a glimpse of the European version of its app, showcasing how users can pay for subscriptions and audiobooks directly within the app.
Meta’s Response and “Project Neon”
In response to Apple’s policies, Meta, another prominent critic, is reportedly working on “Project Neon.” This internal initiative aims to distribute developers’ apps via Facebook ads, presenting a potential avenue for Meta to compete more directly with the App Store, especially in the European market.
As the tech landscape undergoes regulatory transformations, Apple’s strategies, including potential fees for sideloading, will undoubtedly impact app developers and draw reactions from industry players critical of the company’s policies. Stakeholders in the tech and app development sectors will closely monitor the unfolding developments surrounding the Digital Markets Act enforcement.

https://bit.ly/47IJ9HQ - 🏛️ In Ohio, a new bill targeting "deepfakes" has been introduced by state lawmakers. House Bill 367 seeks to combat the growing use of AI-generated media that impersonates individuals without their consent. This legislation defines "deepfakes" as any visual or audio media manipulated to falsely appear authentic, raising concerns over potential fraud and misuse. #DeepfakeLegislation #AIRegulation #OhioStateLaw 👥 The bill, supported by State Representative Adam Mathews, responds to the increasing number of online videos using AI to mimic anyone from celebrities to public officials. These deepfakes have been criticized for their potential to damage reputations and spread misinformation. The bill aims to offer legal recourse against the creation and distribution of such deceptive content. #DigitalEthics #Misinformation #OnlineSafety 📜 Under HB 367, the use of another person's name, image, or likeness in deepfakes for fraud or unauthorized endorsements would be prohibited. Violators could face fines up to $15,000. This move aligns with existing laws against misusing personal information and seeks to maintain digital dignity and authenticity.

An open letter to the U.S. Senate
The Senate must not pass the TikTok “ban” bill!
2,544 so far! Help us get to 3,000 signers!
I strongly oppose the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act, a bill that could ban TikTok in the US. First, it violates our free speech. Second, it targets one social media company over others that have the exact same issues. A better way to safeguard our data would be to create comprehensive consumer-privacy laws that would require apps like TikTok, as well as American companies like Facebook, to face more restrictions on how they handle user data. If the Senator supports this bill they will lose my vote. Thanks.
