Day 17: What's your most returned-to / comfort BL show?

Love In The Air is probably my most returned to show. Specifically episodes 10 and 11. What can I say. I love my boys. I love Prapai and I love Sky and I love their love story. While they don’t start off in the best of places, the devotion they have to each other by the end is amazing and I love it so much.

Cherry Blossoms After Winter is another show I rewatch often. I do not talk about how much I love this show enough. It’s story is simple and doesn’t waste your time with unnecessary drama or characters. It’s just two boys falling in love and wanting to be happy while navigating their last year of high school and into university.

HIStory 1 is another I rewatch entirely too much. Is their relationship toxic and fucked up? Yes, yes it is. Do I care? Not particularly. I love the idea of their love being inevitable. Something Shao Yi Chen can’t run away from and ultimately isn’t sure he even wants to. So instead he decides to dive back in head first, this time with his eyes open and the knowledge he has from his past life.

103. 04/05/2024 day, yall Shu Rongbo and Zhu Hanbin duo is here(shortest-shortest duo lol), my two favorite voices and theyre good together plss I want more of them. theres also sulky SRB refusing to get up on the table after getting pushed off by ZHB aaaand disastrous clap lol.

(also, it's srb lg completion day. congrats on being the first cxs who has played with all lg) (nvm, not anymore! theres 2 new lg actors lmao, srb is still the closest to completion though)

104. 05/05/2024 day, back to back Zhu Hanbin clip but most importantly, it's LG UPPIESS CLIP PLSSS Wang Yifei lifting up ZHB is perfection, they cute. also, chaotic bow lmao, ZHB just wanted to fix WYF's sprout.

105. 05/05/2024 day, same performance as above, have WYF getting bullied by ZHB into announcing his lost in basketball today (15:1 lmao)

106. 05/05/2024 night, right after ZHB bullied WYF 15:1, Teng Chunpeng came out with 101 points. What the actual fuck man. So have this rare encore of him being tired and less energetic than usual.

107. Basketball highlights week 1, simba Shu Rongbo, mad Jing Yanqiao, Du Guangyi scored with one hand, Ding Xingchen lost his shoe too. and many many others.

108. Basketball highlights week 2, 110 points Teng Chunpeng, summersault Du Guangyi, cheating Wang Minhui. Zhu Hanbin continues to ignore his opponent, he only got goals on his mind.

109. Extra behind the scenes, bcs i wanna point out, on 00:45 Du Guangyi talked about how tempted he was to score a goal during the slow part of the song. On the week 2 highlight (#108, 1:50) he gives in to temptation, and fails to score a single goal lol.

Du Guangyi is the true basketball god btw. he makes the best shots and whomever he picks to win, win.

113. 18/05/2024 night, I think Shu Rongbo was particularly salty about losing(6:8) to Guo Hongxu this day lol.

116. 24/05/2024, This!!! The most tender hug, head cradle by Teng Chunpeng and Wu Yihan. WYH in general is very giggly this performance its so nice to see. TCP, ofc brags abt his basketball skills at the end and WYH just pushes him out lol. There's Zhang Jiahao sneak pillow attack too.

117. 01/06/2024 night, Wang Minhui and Cai Qi fighting on the table again? nothing new. Wu Hanglu (half successful attempt at) pushing them both off the table though? That's new.

118. 02/06/2024, Wu Hanglu rightfully hunts down Guo Hongxu after he introduces her as Deng Xianling lmao. it's the LG curse to struggle with names.

119. 03/06/2024, "rock, paper, scissors is boring. we should spice it up, whoever lose gets slapped"- probably Guo Hongxu and Ji Xiaokun backstage. Twice, during People Pursuing Light and the RPS song.

120. Basketball highlights week 4, Ding Xingchen scoring with his shoes?? what's with him and shoes. Sulky Ji Xiaokun. Zhu Hanbin's basketball skill is like Du Guangyi without the nonchalance and effortless look. Wang Yifei and Guo Hongxu 0:0 gameplay.

Closing this list with (the last?) basketball highlight we're gonna get. And at 120, pretty number. Next list, we're starting with Guo Hongxu in orange, 3 new actor debuts (theyre really good btw), the return of hug pioneers WYH-SRB duo, and maybe (based on how long the list gets) the debut of TCP-ZHB duo (aka tallest-shortest). So look forward to that!

A few actors for supporting cast don't have a tag bc they seem to be newbie actors and/or have very small online presence

Tips: 1) Without a weibo account you can scroll through the actor's tag only up to abt 45 most recent posts. The actors perform in multiple plays (duh) so non-LC photos will show up too.

2) Imo the most optimal method, so the limits won't stop you is: go to the main 'LC musical' tag and see what's new. Check schedule for the cast lineup in a recent performance. Go to the actors' tags to see what's new.

3) Sometimes there are 2 performances on a same day, with different actors. So don't be surprised if you find mixed lineups under one date.

4) Mostly QL and Lin Zhen's actresses post behind the scenes photos on their personal profiles. Don't bother looking up the guys accounts, unless it's a holiday or their b-day >< From what I remember, only Wu Yihan posts abt his cat. Zhang Jiahao and Zhou Bobo post selfies sometimes. Ji Xiaokun posts his own photography (he's good!).

5) Google translate, however broken, is enough to translate the captions, so use it for context✨Ppl sometimes give their reviews titled 'repos' from the stage they've seen 🙏

6) You'll find more musical related clips under the actor's tag, than in 'LC musical' main tag. It's usually in an actor's fancam, but not always. Useful when you like an actor or there was a particular moment you want to see from a different angle🌟👌

7) The clips tab (one in the middle) under the actor's tag has no time limited access. You can browse and watch the videos without issues!

Spotlight on Acting:

Luo Yunxi as Tantai Jin / Ming Ye / Cang Jiumin in Till the End of the Moon

In 2023, Luo Yunxi (罗云熙) starred in the Chinese fantasy (xianxia) drama Till the End of the Moon (长月烬明), where he played the following roles:

- Tantai Jin (澹台烬) / Cang Jiumin (沧九旻), hostage prince, King of Jing, and eventually an immortal disciple

- Ming Ye (冥夜), the War God of Shangqing Divine Realm

- Chu Mo (初魔), the Ancient Devil God 

Luo Yunxi also sang covers of "Black Moonlight" (黑月光) and “Let’s Be Like This for 10,000 years” (要不然我们就这样一万年) on the soundtrack. 

This drama has had huge international reach and has put Luo Yunxi on the world stage. (More about this below)

Drama Summary:

The drama is based on the novel Black Moonlight Holds the BE Script by Teng Luo Weizhi. It tells the story of the demon fetus Tantai Jin, who was born to become the new Devil God, and the immortal Li Susu, who travels back in time to stop him. Tantai Jin is caught between good and evil, his journey taking him from a hostage prince to a king, to the disciple of an immortal sect.

Success:

The drama has been released in more than 30 countries and regions, including North America, Europe, and Australia, and on 13 broadcast platforms. 

It has broken many records and won several awards including the Most Commercially Valuable Film & TV IP at the 7th Global Licensing Expo in Shanghai, and 2023 Drama of the Year Award at Weibo Night.

Till the End of the Moon has been praised for its innovative storyline that emphasises the hero's understanding of his existence and the strength of the hero's internal locus of control. Its exquisite costumes, depictions of Dunhuang culture and Chinese mythology have been credited with promoting classic Chinese culture.

It was included as the third most popular Chinese cultural intellectual property of the year, wholly representing the keyword gufeng xianxia in the 2023 CSIC Annual Report on the Chinese Cultural Symbols & International Communication Index released at the World Internet Conference.

Blade is beautiful. 

It’s not a sentiment many would agree with, particularly by the standards of the Xianzhou – he is no plum blossom, is not soft and fragrant and sweet; nor does he hold the shimmering delicacy of a slender strand of silk. His eyes would strike fear in the hearts of most others just from their color alone. He lacks the subtle, sensual coyness of Foxian women hiding behind their fans, and the serene distance of the Vidyadhara composing their mournful elegies. But his is a severe beauty – like the windswept crags of a mountainous wasteland. Like the lethal, expert curve of a knife, so sharp one can scarcely see its edge. Like the breath of silence the world takes before a storm crashes overhead, tumultuous and devastating and strong. 

Perhaps it is an acquired taste warped by an ancient sentiment, or perhaps even Jing Yuan has become jaded, and bewitched by the allure only centuries of war and bloodshed can bring. Or perhaps Blade really is just devastatingly beautiful. His eyes are closed, his breathing slow, but he’s not asleep – he’s far too poised to move at a moment’s notice to convincingly be asleep. Jing Yuan considers himself quite lucky to have managed to coax Blade to stay and rest, even if only for a little while. Blade’s eyes open before Jing Yuan even realizes what he’s done, likely alerted by the rustle of fabric as Jing Yuan moves his hand. Jing Yuan’s fingers linger over Blade’s cheek. Red-gold eyes bore into his own. They freeze like that, staring each other down, before Blade relaxes enough that Jing Yuan deems it safe to indulge in his curiosity. Here and here is where the harshness lies most prominent, but sometimes Yingxing’s old expressions make their way through, made more dangerous by the set of Blade’s jaw and the furrow of his brow and ten times more haunting for it, but enthralling all the same. He runs a knuckle down Blade’s nose. This, at least, has stayed the same. The shell of Blade’s ear, too, and his pierced earlobe. His hair, like ink, is another story. No longer done up as meticulously as it once was (and Jing Yuan wonders if it’s because of Blade’s newfound lack of dexterity, his wandering nature, if it’s because his old hairstyle simply hurts too much to look at, or all three), the Stellaron Hunter’s hair is no longer quite as soft and as silky as he remembers. In this, there’s a thread of mourning. Yingxing had taken such pride in his hair. Jing Yuan combs it back from Blade’s eyes with his fingers, lets it fall back into place. Blade stays unmoving through it all. Jing Yuan touches his forehead. His chin. His lips, only brushed with the lightest fingertips. Blade lets him. This was a part of Yingxing that Jing Yuan had never truly known. Not in the way he’d wanted to. It is a part of Blade that Jing Yuan barely knows now.

It is quiet in his beautiful, too-big garden. Blade is calm. Wistfulness grips Jing Yuan’s chest momentarily, threatening to steal the air from his lungs. “I missed this,” he admits quietly. The confession is left ambiguous, but there’s no need for explanation. He’d never touched Yingxing in this way, too tender and full of longing he’d been too foolish to dare express when they had been whole, too young and afraid of changing what he’d known. He missed this, the quiet, the precious, ephemeral peace between them, the comfort they had once found in each other’s company and the way the weight of all their sorrows and responsibilities would vanish for a time. It never lasted. It will certainly not last long now, but it is within his grasp and Jing Yuan allows himself, selfishly, to cling to it for as long as it will stay. He shifts, propping himself up on one elbow to cup Blade’s cheek properly, allowing his thumb to drift gently over the swordsman’s lower lip.

It's supposed to for an angst au with one of the major chars being one of my frnd's oc! (I have ¼ custody of him as well)

The jy over there is actually my frnd @kaviolli 's oc hyeon, who's a nekomata and a butler to the jy household (he was gifted to the hcq by teng xiao). So uhh the plot takes place quite a few centuries later with hyeon have stolen jy's skin (it was on jy's order though when he got mara struck). So now hyeon lives away in a faraway place, living as jy because it was an order, and it's definitely not out of pity and love (there's a lot of psychological horror conflict themes attached to it)

So this scene takes place around the end of the story, where jl being the only one to discover him (she raised jy after all, she knows) ends up granting him the peace he was seeking for so long

"When she was about delivers the final blow, she stares down at the body of her son apprentice's copycat. Hesitating, questioning, begging herself to snap out of it. That this is just an illusion made up in her mind. Lies that the mara spread so she has the heart to kill her own student.

Cat like eyes stares into her blood red one. This is not Jing Yuan. Her Jing Yuan never have those eyes. Her heart and soul howl over how wrong those eyes looks in his face. That's the only reassurance she needs to end this abomination, yet..

For just a second, she thought she saw Jing Yuan staring up at her with a soft smile gracing his tired face. He looks at her like she has hung the moon and back. Full of adoration and reassurance.

Silent tears path their way down her cheeks as she closes her eyes. Her sword plunging down right at the heart of the nekomata. Not daring to see her own sword penetrating his body.

A silent thank you can be heard from beneath her as Hyeon takes his last breath and Jingliu mourns."

A character from The Untamed has now one a bracket 6 times (Poorest Little Meow Meow - Season 1 & 2, Most Whipped, Autistic Swag, Best Siblings, and Most Unhinged).

There were 17 actors who had another character they played now be in a bracket. Of those 17, 8 had already had at least 2 characters in the brackets, while the other 9 only had one character prior.

Amongst these is a very special, Wayne Song, the first non-Thai actor to have multiple characters in the bracket (Xiang Haoting - HIStory 3: Make Our Days Count, Zhang Teng - Kiseki: Dear to Me).

Curious about the lc musical cast heights? No? Well here's a very questionable ranking of the CXS and LG actor from tol to avereg to shmol.

(I swear it was a joke, but then @sgdlr-asdfghjkl took it seriously, and then I took it even more seriously, and now here we are)

Disclaimer! I have no ill intent in making this ranking, all the actors are great. I was just presented with a challenge I can't deny. Also, once again reiterating that these are very QUESTIONABLE.

Take note that most of these were done before February 16, so it's mostly using information/clips prior to the new year's break.

So the first thing I did was made this bipartite graph to show which actors have been paired with who. (Ignore the color-coding, it was for an abandoned plan. Also, pre 16/02)

Cheng Xiaoshi actors on the left and Lu Guang actors on the right.

One thing you might notice, is that some actors have been paired with more actors than others. Such as SRB who have been paired with 4 LG actors, thus I will use him as my initial point of reference.

(If anyone asks, why not DGY with 5 pairs? That's only 56% of the CXS actors, meanwhile SRB got 80% of the LG actors. Also, I have a lot of easy to access SRB clips.)

Then I carefully overlay multiple screenshots of SRB with LG actors to rank them, adding both a DGY-DXC duo and a ZHB-DXC duo so I can finish ranking the LG actors.

Here's an example, comparison of WMH and DGY referenced to SRB.

Next is probably the most accurate and logical part. You know those old math puzzles where you go: A<B, and B<C, that means A<C? Yeah, I did that but with 14 variables (the actors) and 18 conditional statements (the pairings).

With these, I can roughly guess most of their ranking. Then I use more overlaying photos on top of another to complete and get the ranking you see up top.

That said, let me highlight some problems I faced.

I tried my best, but keep in mind camera angles, video quality, actors' postures, shoes/sole thickness, fluffy hair. This is why the overlaying method is unreliable and this ranking is questionable.

I considered using the photo wall (the one with the donghua shiguang scene, that separated the back and the front studio set) as a point of reference, but I can't determined how far away each actor stood from it.

So i mostly took reference from the final part of 'Guiding Light' where they stood in a line or when theyre standing on the table (rock paper scissors and that song's ending)

Contrary to what it might seem, I didn't use much effort doing this legit (Could've literally asked any Chinese fan for help finding their height but I didn't). So yeah another reminder. THIS IS QUESTIONABLE AND UNRELIABLE.

That said, WMH is apparently 188cm tall (lol he's so tall and cool, he intimidates me)

CMZ, WYF, and JYQ is a problem because they've only been paired with the shortest LGs and they're all taller than that LG. Without overlaying, literally could be anywhere from rank 11 up. Even then I only have 1 reference point, ZHB.

Thank god for 16/02/2024 (very fun, they mix well) performance between WYF and DGY.

CQ originally have this problem too but he performed with WYH on 17/02/2024 (very good perf, will be on my next list) so that helped a lot.

JXK too have only ever performed with GHX which means when I have to compare him to WMH and TCP, the shortest path is 3/4 long, which makes the overlaying even more unreliable.

So yeah, it was really unreliable compared to me ranking all the LG to SRB, who's shortest path is only 2 (3 for ZHB)

ZHB and DGY is really close in height, I have to compare both of them to both DXC and CMZ to find who's shorter.

DXC and WYH have the same problem too, so I watched a lot of their clips from multiple angles to find who's taller.

I can't believe you argued DXC is shmoler than SRB, even BZM is smoller.

That said; WYH, DXC, BZM, CMZ are all so close in height it could very much be interchangeable.

Same with WMH and JXK.

For the love of god, JYQ is a PROBLEM. There's barely any performances much less clips of him so it's hard to find one that fits my requirements (Which is a shame, I like his voice and he's cute. Thank god he post on weibo often). In the end, I have to eyeball it so feel free to question his ranking even more so than the others.

The top 4 (top 6 even) is really easy though, they really are just that tall and easy to rank.

There's a very clear, undeniable, drop in height between rank 3-5, JXK and GHX, as well as between rank 6-7, CQ and WYH.

I know there's a lot of CXS actors in the bottom half but I think if you average them, LG is still shorter bcs WMH is a frickin outlier and the others are average.

Anyway, that concludes this (I swear, I'm very sane) post.

For the Home Ask Game:

This is a fun moment to explain a little bit about the Luofu. It was common for the new Arbiter-General to move into the home of the newly retired Arbiter-General, and I moved into Teng Xiao's home. It was an emotional moment for, since it happened shortly after the Sedition and Trials, but it was also refreshing.

I was able to redesign the home to my personal tastes. I was particularly fond of flower gardens, but I needed to make sure Snowmoon had a large enough area to play in. Did she still take some oppurtunities to ruin my gardens?

After graduating from Jingliu’s tutelage, Jing Yuan has become a bit… lazy. And much, much more mischievous. That’s why the man sneaks into Baiheng’s place, certain that the other members of the Quintet aren’t nearby anymore. Dan Feng has a meeting with Teng Xiao, Yingxing is forging something (he checked the forge, and it was on), and Jingliu is training more soldiers. Even then, being cautious is necessary, because who knows if someone seeing him won’t end up breaking his plans?

Alas, the lieutenant brings with himself a small bag, and with that he slips inside Baiheng’s place much like a criminal. “Heng-jie,” calls the young man when he’s safe behind the door, and as soon he sees the foxian, Jing Yuan grins. “Say, Heng-jie, would you like to go swimming?” Now, where they are going to swim is another story… one that Dan Feng won’t like any bit when he learns about it.
