One of my all time FAVOURITE scenes from The Hobbit films. His expression is just so soft and hopeful with his eyes back on Erebor for the first time in years. I really hope I did this shot justice!

Okay, but like. What of Thorin survived and Bilbo and he lived together, and Thorin was able to help Bilbo shoulder a little more of the weight of the ring because of his own experience with dragon sickness and Bilbo never had to fear becoming a monster because Thorin would never let him, the same way Bilbo did everything he could to help Thorin, and in the end they were able to hand the ring over to Frodo themselves in person alongside Gandalf to give him the most support possible for his quest... I just think there's a lot of hurt/comfort right there just waiting to be mined (ba dum tss).

That being said, if anybody knows a fic like this... 👀
