Thank you my dove <3 no it’s literally the most ruthless thing ever. People don’t understand the mental stamina it takes to fulfill all facets of the application med schools expect. It’s more than a full time job—sometimes it doesn’t feel like there are enough hours in the day tbh, between doing research and volunteering and shadowing and gaining hands on experience. And don’t get me started on the mcat lmao, preparing for it feels like I’m training for the Olympics. I’m into it most days, it’s fun to be consumed by something you’re truly passionate about, but I also completely get how it predisposes all of us to frequent burnouts. Add to that the stress of meeting the still more extraordinary, still more impossible standards of elite med schools…

Vanilla Chai Latte : Are you in love?

Yes, wholeheartedly and unapologetically, I am. 

My girlfriend and I have only been together for two months, but it’s one of those things where when you know, you know. I’ve been in relationships lasting upwards of a year where I still didn’t know at the end of them whether or not I was in love. Early on in the year, I was actually even having conversations with my mom about how I wasn’t sure I’d ever been in love; I had no concept of what that felt like. I didn’t feel like I was feeling what I was supposed to be in relationships. I wondered if I was aromantic and if I wasn’t meant to experience romantic love.

With her, I’ve realized everything love IS supposed to feel like, and I’ve realized I AM capable of feeling those feelings - I just hadn’t met the right person yet. My heart was waiting for her. 

We daydream of the life we intend to build together, and it delights me to be able to wake up every day and choose her, again and again, as we run boldly and breathlessly into the future we now share. We totally u-hauled but we’re both so committed to blooming and becoming together; it’s unlike anything I’ve ever experienced before despite having quite a bit of experience in relationships. 

Flat White : Coffee or Tea?

Coffee. It feels more substantial to me with more ways to customize it exactly how you like it. I also just have a lot of really positive memories being in coffee shops! I’m currently obsessing over Starbucks’s seasonal salted caramel mocha. 

Cappuccino : What’s your middle name?

Elizabeth! I was named after my mother and grandmother, so it’s the only part of my birth name I kept when I changed my name. 

Mocha : Dream Job?

A famous professional organizer on the same level as Marie Kondo and Dorothy Breininger! They’re my inspiration and the reason I went into this kind of work. Also, the executive director of my own LGBT-focused nonprofit (which I have been, and I intend to be again!).

The super fancy bike I’ll use the day I ride in the AIDS LifeCycle? Haha, I don’t drive and I don’t intend to! 

Jasmine Tea : If you could go anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?

Ugh, if I could visit any place in the world right this moment, I’d choose to go back to Toronto in a heartbeat. I went there in 2015 for the Inside Out LGBT Film Festival and I LOVED that city. It was so fun and the people were so welcoming. Other than that? Moscow, because it’s where @googoogojob lives, or New York City, because I just learned Hook & Ladder 8 (the Ghostbusters firehouse) is a real place and I want to see it! 

Old English : You’re stranded on an island, who do you bring with you?

Do I have a limit?? If I have a choice, I’m definitely bringing my mom, brother, maternal grandparents, best friend, best friend’s family, cat, and girlfriend! That’s like the minimum amount of people in my life I couldn’t go without. 

Iced Chocolate : Do you have a crush on someone?

My girlfriend, who I continually redevelop a big gay crush on every day! But I feel like that’s not quite the spirit of what this question is asking, so - I also have a big gay crush on Kristen Wiig, which my girlfriend endlessly makes fun of me for! Like, to the point I named my cat Erin Gilbert. 

Caramel Frappe : Favorite video game?

It’s a tie between Minecraft and Undertale. I swing wildly between playing Minecraft daily to not playing for months, but it never gets old. The sandbox nature of the game enables infinite creativity, and the low stakes make it both accessible to me (not a gamer) and relaxing. And Undertale with its story and unique mechanics remains to this day the game to inspire the biggest emotional response in me. I’ve thought about having, “Despite everything, it’s still you” tattooed. 

Iced Lemon Tea : Favorite song/band?

My favorite songs of all time are “The Greatest” by Sia and “I Know a Place” by MUNA, both of which were written in the aftermath of the Pulse shooting and can be interpreted as the process of rediscovering queer joy at the same time your community is constantly faced with tragedy and pain. They hit hard in a beautiful way as a hate crime survivor. 

Iced Cafe Mocha : Favorite thing to do on rainy days?

I like to go out as soon as the storm passes and just walk downtown in the rain. The air always smells and feels so good; it clarifies me and I feel renewed. Walking in the light rain or before / after the storm always feels like breathing, really breathing, for the first time. It reminds me I exist and it reminds me that’s neat. 

Hot Chocolate : Are you an affectionate person?

Yessssss oh my god. I live and breathe being affectionate and not even in a strictly romantic sense. I’m naturally an exuberant person and I delight in making people happy. My girlfriend would also say I engage in “cat behavior” with my demands to be held or touching constantly. XD 

Caramel Macchiato : You’re travelling the entire world but you can only take one person with you. Who do you take?

My girlfriend @sweetmckinnon. Not only would we have the unprecedented opportunity to be gay in every country and continent, but we’re both writers, and we’d write an excellent book about these adventures!

I’m rounding up everyone I care about and taking us to the nearest commune of marginalized people. We’ll be avoiding those uber-macho survivalist types like the plague, because their arrogance will 100% get everyone killed. At least marginalized communities would be more likely to understand working together and looking out for the community, not just yourself. 

Mint Tea : How do you relax?

Indoor cycling is my drug of choice. It’s HARD to be mad or stressed when you’re exerting that intensely. I might also write self-indulgent fanfics or indulge in a little controlled chaos (I’m an acrylic pour and collage artist). And talking to my girlfriend, best friend, or mom always makes me feel better, too. 

Vanilla Latte : Board games or drinking games?

I genuinely love board games and wish I had more people to play them with. 

Iced Coffee : Do you like reading? If so, what’s your favorite book?

I like reading, but having ADHD has made it extremely hard to read entire books in recent years. My favorite book is probably The Radium Girls by Kate Moore. The author takes what’s already a horrific story and a dark chapter in American history and with her devastating writing style, humanizes each woman involved to the point it makes you ache to read knowing the inevitability of their fate. Anytime anyone asks me for a book recommendation, this is the book I suggest. 

Italian Soda : Describe your dream date

My dream date would be after we’ve been together for a while - maybe on a date that’s special to us, like our anniversary, or maybe just on a random night because we feel like it, we have one of those super romantic dates like you see in the movies. We dress up super cute, go out to dinner and come home to a bedroom full of candles and rose petals on the floor, and every moment is spent just enjoying each other and what we have together in every way we can. <3 

Sparkling Water : Describe what qualities you look for in a person

Passion - I’m an activist who became the executive director of their own nonprofit at the age of 16. I’m not going to mesh with someone who’s just going through the motions of life without any aspirations. 

Flexibility - It’s a turnoff for me when someone is EXTREMELY committed to a very specific view of how their life is going to be. It tells me right away I’m going to have to continually contort myself to fit into their unbending path, because I accept I can’t predict the direction of my life with any degree of precision and I’m not rigid about it as a result. 

Creative - I’m currently dating another writer and it’s the most fun I’ve ever had in a relationship. The quickest way to get us to pop off into a spirited debate is to get us started about story structure and characterization. We. Go. OFF. And could go off for days. Our shared creative passion gives us endless ground to connect and bond on. 

Those are just a few, but definitely a few important ones for me! 

Orange Juice : Have you ever had a valentine?

My first girlfriend, who I dated from 12-17, is the only valentine I’ve ever had. The timing of my relationships as an adult has never worked out for me to be partnered on Valentine’s Day. We weren’t super out about our relationship at the time and didn’t spend Valentine’s Day together, but I still have the love letters she sent me copied into my 7th grade diary, and I still have the antique gold heart necklace with enamel roses she gave me one year, too! Lots of lovely memories from that relationship. 

Rose Hip Tea : Describe your first kiss

My first girlfriend and I were 12-13, cutting class in the bathroom because she was often bullied for her sexuality. She was having an especially rough day that day and I knew exactly where to find her. She kissed me out of the blue while I was comforting her and in all of my baby gay naivety, I hadn’t fully realized I was gay or that she liked me that way prior to that. Turns out I was and she did. We dated for five years. 

Herbal Tea : You’re at a candle shop, what scented candle do you buy?

Oh, I’m going right to the bakery scent section. I’m not a huge fan of chocolate-scented candles, but vanilla? Christmas cookies? Gingerbread? Sign me the FUCK up. 

Sandalwood is also one of my favorite scents, but depending on what it’s blended with, it can be hit or miss for me in candles.

- what I mean is that Jihoon doesn’t want to go out looking for his soulmate in every corner and alley

- he’d often hear other members talking about you when you aren’t around

- they like to mention how amazing your taste in music is and how comforting/supportive you are when they feel down or stressed

- the beagle line, booseoksoon, would obviously be the biggest chatterboxes

- their conversations about you might as well be fights over you

- “hey guys, y/n likes this song I was practicing my vocals with today,” Soonyoung smiles widely and tries hard not to squeal

- “hmm, is that so,” Seokmin say, pretending to be unbothered

- “yeah, and she says she wants to hear me sing more often.”

- “I don’t know about you guys but I was dancing in the practice room the other day when y/n walked in and said I’m pretty good. She wants me to teach her a few dances sometime,” Seokmin grins in pride

- “WHAT THE HELL? THAT’S MY JOB,” Soonyoung would yell

- “oH weLL,” Seungkwan clears his throat. “yesterday I was cracking jokes all over the place for her and she was practically dying of laughter.”

- “I’m the jokester around here,” Seokmin points to himself. “What are you talking about?”

- “HEY MAN, do you remember who she laughed at the most when we showed her that clip of us on that variety show?” Soonyoung would ask

- “Me,” all three of them answer in unison

- “BACK OFF ALL OF YOU,” Seungkwan says in response. “We all know that comic relief in this group is my responsibility.” the three then engage in an argument

- “Oh my God, we get it. You all like her,” Jihoon says before retreating back to his studio. He’s had enough of this conversation

- before hearing all these “fights” over you

- he would’ve considered initiating dialogue between you and him

- but because Jihoon’s already pretty convinced the three of them are crushing on you already

- he decides to not get involved and leaves you to them

- besides, he doesn’t think a girl that those three would crush on would be his type

- W R O N G

- one day, you’d be hanging out with beagle line, who has been dying to hear more of your music playlists

- you’ve given them a few song recommendations before, but ofc they wanted moRE

- so your playlist session pretty much turns into a karaoke/dance party in the practice room with three of the loudest boys in pledis

- after all of the fun, the boys make a playlist on their laptop with all the songs you just played for them

- so when you can’t hang out with them, they could just play those songs and think of you awww

- however, the laptop they saved the playlist on just so happens to be one of the laptops the entire group shares

- one of these users is none other than the great Lee Jihoon

- he takes the laptop to his studio one day and magically finds the playlist left on pause from the last time booseoksoon listened to it altogether and cried over you lmao

- and recognizing a few songs on the list, he decides to give it a listen

- he has no idea whose playlist it is

- but he falls in love with it

- it just happens to be the perfect mix of old songs from his predebut days and more modern songs from today

- you defined his music taste perfectly with this very playlist

- so he begins to use it more frequently

- one day, he was blasting the playlist in the practice room when all of a sudden:

- “ah, I’m not surprised... booseoksoon is blasting my playlist once agai-”

- you stop your tracks upon spotting no one else but Jihoon with the laptop, playing your playlist

- Jihoon freezes and lets what you just said sink in

- “Oh, uh... this is your playlist?” he asks anxiously

- “Yeah, it- it is,” you stutter. “Seungkwan, Seokmin, and Soonyoung asked me for it, so they saved it onto that... laptop.”

- “well, it’s... pretty good,” Jihoon compliments awkwardly

- “oh really? I- um, thank you??” a nervous laughter comes out of you

- “yeah, uh, I’m sorry if I’m not supposed to be listening to it. I want to respect your priv-”

- “no no, please. If you like it, feel free to use it whenever,” you wave your hands in defense

- Jihoon stifles a tiny laugh. “okay thank you, y/n.”

- “anytime, Jihoon,” you smile kindly. “This is actually the playlist I use when I work on my assignments. Do you mind if I uh... work here while you play it?” You clarify your point by holding up the unfinished files you have to work on for your internship

- “yeah, of course,” Jihoon keeps his cool. “I was just gonna.. uh...”

- “If you’re working on something privately here, I can leave you alone. It’s no big deal,” you say. The last thing you want to do is bother him

- “Ah no, I was just gonna work on my dancing, that’s all,” he manages to answer without stuttering. Jihoon was honestly ready to break out in nervous laughter, but he held it back. “You can stay, don’t worry.”

- you thank Jihoon and settle into a chair and table to get started on work

- it takes you a little while to realize that Jihoon is actually dancing to songs on your playlist

- you decide to give him a compliment, because goddamn this boy is really good

- “I didn’t think that song was all that danceable, but you managed to make it work.”

- Jihoon smiles. “Oh thanks. A lot of the songs on your playlist are dance songs though. That’s what I like about it.”

- “to be honest, I expected you to be more of a composer than a dancer, but it looks like you can do both pretty well,” you smile

- “oh really,” he accepts the compliment shyly. “I spend more time composing, but dancing definitely relieves a lot of stress for me.”

- “... how about you? What do you like to do?” he asks

- he isn’t sure if he asked that out of a need to beat out the awkward aura or if he was genuinely curious about you

- but he’s glad he did because it definitely brought up a pretty interesting conversation between you and him

- and BAM you’re finally friends with Jihoon !!

- I’m not tryna to exaggerate buuuut

- becoming friends with this genius is absolutely life-changing

- your old, awkward hellos in the hallways turn into full-on conversations and it’s amazinG

- and he has so much knowledge about music and dancing and entertainment and he just loves sharing all of that with you

- hearing and seeing how passionate he is about what he does as an artist is the best part about being a good friend of his

- (he wouldn’t share any of this kind of stuff with people he isn’t close to)

- his hardworking nature is also super inspiring

- but oftentimes, you’ll find him stressing a little too much about his work

- although he does take breaks from time to time, there are days when all he wants to do is work nonstop

- and as a caring friend, you do your best to help Jihoon out in these stressful times

- “c’mon dude, just take a short break to have dinner with the members. You can always come back to composing a little later,” you’d nag him

- “no, I’m fine, really,” he replies, eyes still glued to his composition displayed on the computer screen. “I’m not feeling dinner right now.”

- “that’s what you said at lunchtime when I checked on you,” you complain. “I know you keep snacks in here, but the members probably haven’t seen you since this morning. And real meals will help you recharge better than any of these tiny snacks.”

- “y/n this is due in two days, I can’t just-”

- “Jihoon,” you get his full attention at the mention of his name. “I get it. Due dates are due dates. But you need to think: is working straight and only having half of your energy in writing this song really worth it? Or do you think it’s better to take breaks and make a with a song with all of your energy put into it?”

- you sigh. “It’s all up to you. I’m just giving you suggestions here.”

- although you’re still concerned about your friend, you decide it’s best to leave the composer alone for now. You head over to the practice room to join the other members eat dinner. The guys greet you with a warm welcome

- you also inform the boys that you invited Jihoon over for dinner with them if he wanted to come

- but a few moments after your arrival

- Jihoon steps into the practice room as well

- “HOLY SHIT, JIHOON’S ALIVE?” Soonyoung screams

- the rest of the members rush on over to Jihoon to engulf him in a gigantic group hug

- “was I really out for that long?” the composer laughs

- “UHHM YEAH, JIHOON,” Seungkwan exclaims. “I’m pretty sure I haven’t seen your face in two days.”

- “Seriously,” Seungcheol smiles and ruffles Jihoon’s hair. “It’s about time you took a legitimate break.”

- Seungcheol would then walk over to you. You were admiring the adorable group bonding from afar:

- “Damn, y/n, how did you do it?” he pats your shoulder

- you shrug your shoulder and laugh it off

- because you honestly don’t know how you got Jihoon to get out of his studio

- and now he’s eating a complete dinner???

- the members were very impressed by you

- what kind of potion or sorcery did you use to resurrect Jihoon??1?///?

- after he realizes he’s got a pretty huge crush on you, Jihoon will most likely change the way he acts around you in a few ways:

- 1. he’ll be 10x more nervous whenever you come over to hang out

- you’ll ask him a simple question like “hey, Jihoon, how are you today?”

- and he’ll have to stutter around when replying:

- “uhhh... go-good I guess?”

- 2. before his crush, he could easily slip you a little compliment here and there. But when he’s crushing, Jihoon would keep all these compliments to himself 

- this is because he’d constantly overthink his compliments

- he doesn’t wanna sound too desperate or flirty. He’ll do anything to make his crush on you not obvious

- so whenever Jihoon would want to compliment you, he’d probably just smile really cutely and say the compliment in his head

- 3. Jihoon would want to be the one to invite you over to hang out, because he needs time to think out your conversations

- the last thing he wants is an awkward time with you

- he’d like everything to flow perfectly so he can feel a little less tense around you

- and whenever you accidentally bump into Jihoon around the company building, oh boy

- he wouldn’t know what to say in these encounters, so you’d have to be the one to start off the conversation

- overall, this guy is just a nervous wreck around you

- and he can’t exactly tell people he’s feeling this attacked every time he sees you because

- Jihoon wouldn’t tell anyone about his crush

- LIKE NO ONE

- okay maybe Seungcheol, but only if he asks Jihoon about you and doesn’t stop until his dongsaeng admits that he likes you:

- “Jihoon, come on. I know you. Just admit it already.”

- “For the last time, Seungcheol, I don’t like y/n like that,” Jihoon would huff. The two are prepping for bed in their shared dorm room

- “Mmm,” the leader thinks for a moment and then grins. “I’m not buying it.”

- Jihoon is irritated. “You’ve asked me so many times already and I’ve always said no. Why can’t you believe me?”

- Seungcheol inhales deeply before looking at Jihoon squarely in the face. “Look, she’s the only person who can successfully pull you out of the studio to rest or do anything other than work.”

- “Even I can’t do that, and I’ve known you for years now.”

- Jihoon stares at his hyung before covering his face with a hand

- “Jeez, is it that obvious?”

- At the sound of Jihoon’s response, Seungcheol grins, rises to his feet, and starts an awkward but cute happy dance

- “Okay okay, I get it, Cheol. You win,” Jihoon smiles in embarrassment

- with this new information, Seungcheol would be one to make fun of Jihoon a lot when you’re around

- like you could simply pass by and say hi to Jihoon, and Seungcheol would punch him on the shoulder cutely while squealing

- and it’ll become so frequent to the point that the other members would pick up on it too

- and when booseoksoon finds out, Jihoon is in for another headache

- “whOA, I didn’t know Jihoon likes y/n,” Soonyoung would tease

- “I don’t???” Jihoon lies

- “but every single time y/n comes by, Seungcheol automatically smiles and giggles at you specifically,” Seungkwan would justify

- “then maybe Seungcheol likes her,” Jihoon retaliates

- “naw dude, he isn’t like that,” Seokmin replies. “The leader is just making your crush too obvious.”

- Jihoon won’t know how to come back at that comment

- “... whatever,” he sighs in defeat

- “AEYYYYY-” the trio squeals but Jihoon cuts them:

- “I’m out. Go be loud and dumb somewhere else.”

- “WELCOME TO THE CLUB, JIHOON,” the trio shouts

- and since the three beagles hang out with you a lot too

- they’re bound to spill the beans within the first few days of knowing:

- you’d be hanging out with the three of them like usual when the boys suddenly decide to pull out your playlist for another mini practice room party

- the first song that Jihoon danced to on your playlist comes up and you can’t help but mention him out of nowhere

- “guys, did I ever tell you that Jihoon listens to my playlist?”

- “oOhHoH, Jihoon,” Soonyoung wiggles his eyebrows at the other boys

- “uh yeah?? He found it on the laptop we saved it on, and I caught him listening to it. Strange huh,” you smile off to the side at the thought of that day

- “mMhHm, very strange indeed,” Seokmin looks at Seungkwan and Soonyoung and gives them a suspicious look similar to Soonyoung’s

- “yo wtf? What’s going on with all of you?” you’d ask

- “OH NOTHING NOTHING,” Seungkwan would giggle

- you’re not convinced

- “you guys are hiding something. Spill it.”

- the boys would hold their breaths and keep quiet, until...

- “JIHOON LIKES YOU,” Seungkwan would burst and then immediately cover his mouth in regret

- “WhAaAaT??1? ‘JIHOON LIKES FOOD?’ PFF ISN’T THAT ALREADY OBVIOUS?? HAHAHAHHEHAHHA NiCe oNe, Bo0 ” seoksoon scream in an attempt to cover up the accident

- meanwhile, the fact sinks in and you break out into a huge smile. A pink blush spreads across your face, and the boys notice

- “WHOA WAIT,” Seungkwan finally breaks. “YOU LIKE HIM TOO?”

- “... maybe.”

- “are you gonna confess to him?” they all ask

- “hmmm... I don’t know, should I?” *GEULSE JAL MOLLA*

- m e a n w h i l e 

- the mere thought of confessing to you is terrifying to Jihoon

- it would take him a lot of line-rehearsing and sleepless nights before he could tell you how he feels

- but that would take a century

- a lot of times, he’ll come close to having enough guts for it

- but then he’d back out, thinking that the conversation could wait a little longer

- so if anything, you’d have to be the one to ask him if he likes you

- “hey Jihoon, can I ask you something?” you twiddle your fingers atop Jihoon’s desk. The two of you are hanging out in his studio like you usually do

- “yeah, what’s up?”

- he’s busy. Only half of his attention is on the conversation

- “do you... like me?”

- Jihoon freezes. Instead of looking directly at you, he stares at your fidgeting hands

- “who told you that?”

- “I can’t say because you’ll-”

- Jihoon thinks for a moment. “Fine, just tell me who.”

- you can’t help but laugh as you respond

- “Seungkwan.”

- Jihoon immediately gets up from his seat and starts heading for the studio door

- “OH MY GOD WAIT, JIHOON,” you can’t stop laughing, but you follow him to the door and grab his wrist

- he stops again, and an electric feeling rushes through his body upon sensing your touch

- “Jihoon, you promised me you wouldn’t kill him. Now keep your promise.”

-  He puffs out a breath before turning to you. “I’m sorry y/n, but Seungkwan needs to learn his less-”

- “I like you too,” you interrupt his sentence

- his entire body stills, and it’s as if time decided to take a moment to pause at this very moment

- “if anything, we should be thanking Seungkwan for spitting it all out because, if it weren’t for him, we wouldn’t have known we both like each other.”

- Jihoon thinks, and a smile slowly forms on his lips

- “can I punch him in the face at least?”

- “JIHOON.”

- “alright, but I’ll need something else in return then,” he takes a hold of you with one hand on your arm

- “like what?”

- he finally looks you in the eye 

- you notice his face blushing pink

- “nevermind, I really want to beat him up.”

- “JIHOO-”

- he quickly pecks you on the cheek before leaving the studio to start his manhunt for Seungkwan

- as he runs away from your chasing, he smiles to himself

Are there any sdr2 characters that you don’t like or just aren’t very interested in?

BIG SPOILER WARNING FOR SDR2 BELOW! DO NOT READ THIS POST IF YOU HAVEN'T FINISHED THE GAME!

It's actually neat getting this question because I can see where some characters I used to dislike/find annoying in the beginning have worked their way up. For example, I initially despised Te/ruTeru, but after his backstory reveal I ended up feeling some sympathy for him and realized despite some traits, he wasn't entirely a bad guy (and I'm assuming his social link will endear him to me a little once I get around to it in island mode).

In fact, I can only really think of two I actively dislike/hate now: Nag/ito and Hiy/oko.

Real quick: Obviously these are all solely my opinions! I have no problem with my followers viewing characters differently, so even if you're the biggest fan of these chars I hope y'all know you're always welcome on my blog! 💛 Feel free to ramble in my inbox about them or chatter about omo, I genuinely enjoy discussing things or seeing different hcs even if I don't share them and I love seeing people be passionate about whatever makes them happy! Heck, sometimes fan ideas even end up changing my mind or at least make fun aus!

Now back to the question:

Hiy/oko's behavior in many instances was just appalling, and the way she cared about Mah/iru, while sad/sweet, still couldn't make up for all of her other bullshit. I can't stand little snots and I don't like 'loli' characters, so she's basically a 2-for-1 special on tropes I find irritating. Also high pitched voices are grating on my ears. After finishing the game I still stand by my original sentiment: Good Riddance Bitch. She will not be missed. As a note, I haven't done her FTEs yet so maybe it'll change, but I think it's pretty unlikely.

Na/gito is just. Idk where to start with him tbh. He definitely serves his role in the plot well, has great interactions with the rest of the cast, and really made me feel like I was struggling and he was so smugly one step ahead. I appreciate him as part of the story and it wouldn't be the same without him (Some of the memes about him are also really funny lmao). That being said, as far as his character and my personal tastes go, I fucking hate him lmao. Not 'villain I love to hate'. I just can't stand him and am lowkey annoyed at how popular/'woobified' he is in some parts of the fandom. My feelings on him are pretty similar to Ak/echi from p/5, except at least Ake/chi was understandable, whereas every time Nag/ito goes on a long spiel I'm just braindead and confused lmao. That or annoyed because he repeats himself like 30 times. I really thought doing his FTE's would endear him to me a little but it actually just made me dislike him more. He's just... he goes 120% ALL THE TIME and he's all over the place, it was overwhelming and gave me whiplash. Also while I do feel bad for him and the clear issues he had, the CONSTANT 'I'm worthless trash please kill me haha I don't deserve your kindness' talk really got on my nerves. Maybe it wouldn't have bothered me so much if I played the game back in the year it came out? But in this day and age all it reminded me of was certain 'Crabs in a Bucket' people I've known or witnessed who formed their entire identity around self-hatred and desperately tried to drag others down with them. (Note: I'm not talking about the general struggles with depression, etc. here. But I don't want to go into a lecture on exactly what I mean so I'll just leave it at that.) Nag/ito's not entirely the same thing and I get that, but it just rubbed me the wrong way because of that association.

Overall I just find him obnoxious and tend to avoid stuff that focuses on him. I might try writing a short omo thing about him being tied up because, like, how could I not? But besides that don't expect much from me. All of that said, I don't mind other people talking about him and y'all are free to send me asks with your own opinions or hcs, I might give my own occasionally. And I do like seeing art sometimes.

Also though, I ship him hard with Ju/nko (and in a poly with her and Mik/an). I'm also interested in him x Chi/aki since they're yin/yang parallels and have some similarities in design and the art of them together is neat. Not sure how much I ship them as far as actual canon or writing goes, but aesthetically it's pretty neat.

I think it's also worth mentioning that Ka/zuichi So/da toes a real weird line for me. Not in the sense that I actually hate him (his design is neat and he can be likeable at times), but that I hate what the game did with him. Which was not doing ANYTHING with him. His character had a lot of potential to be interesting, but they never let him break past the two running gags: Being confused about EVERYTHING, and obsessing over So/nia (to the point about making multiple sex jokes/getting flustered over her during the middle of the most serious trial in the game (Na/gito's death), which makes no sense even for him and completely ruined the mood). Every other survivor had important spotlight moments in the plot, developed their character as they went, and formed meaningful relationships with at least one other character to drive them forwards/give them angst. Kaz/uichi had none of that and I can't think of a single instance where he ACTUALLY had bearing on the plot, positively or negatively. He's basically the Fortune Teller Guy of this game: completely useless and ignored unless he needs to question something for exposition or drag the protag somewhere, scraping by only because he isn't hated or liked enough by anyone to get murdered and is too scared to kill. He didn't survive because he was genuinely fighting/had the ability to, but because everyone just forgot about him and left him alone.

A lot of his issues could have been fixed by just having a point in the game where he learns to treat So/nia as a person instead of being so obnoxious about following her around (he dislikes Ter/uTeru but then pretty much is just as annoying, only difference is he's a little less immoral and more just unable to take hints). Haj/ime even pointed this out in the last chapter with his thoughts of 'Dude just take a hint already'. If the game put them on more equal footing and he like, actually got to know her, it would've been way easier to believe he was fighting FOR So/nia in the same way all the others were fighting for someone they loved, and he might have actually done more throughout the game. He might have had some actual development and maturity, but instead he's pretty much the exact same person he was at the start of the game (I don't remember them even really touching on how he felt about the final chapter's Big Reveal). Because his obsession and cluelessness was one of his defining traits, they never let him do anything besides that. I spent most of the game convinced he was going to get a case in a trial or big moment eventually since they kept giving him so much screentime and let him make it so far, but there was just nothing. He's just a giant mass of wasted potential and for that reason I struggle to enjoy him without getting irritated.

Quick note to clarify: I'm not hating on him because of the ship with So/nia or because he 'gets in the way' of Gun/dham. I honestly don't mind that, the problem is just the lack of development I mentioned above. I could def enjoy the ship or a love triangle if they gave him smth. (And I realize part of that was the point, that G/undham 'gets the girl' bc he actually respected and talked to her, but still. The chapters after that point would have been the perfect time to let So/da have some viewpoint shifts and make efforts to change but they didn't).

Actually tbh even if they wanted to keep his obsession, I would've been fine with that, IF they had given him some other plot/character besides that. Like if he had some important tasks to do and was pretty good at them, but they also turned it into a flaw where he would prioritize helping/following her sometimes over what he was supposed to do and caused problems as a result, that could have been interesting. Creating tension within the surviving group or having her get mad at him over it, just SOMETHING.
