How to get into top B schools in India
Tumblr media
The proverb ‘where there’s a will, there is a way’ applies perfectly on your MBA aspirations. By putting in long hours and burning the midnight oil, you are striving hard in your MBA entrance exam preparations. The goal is to secure an admission in one of the top B schools in India. It could be one of the coveted IIMs or the highly sought-after MBA from Symbiosis. However, there is more to it than just preparing for the entrance exam. Here are five tips that will help you join your dream college.
 1. Start the process early
There is little to gain from scrambling towards the end and half-heartedly giving your exams. Instead, start the process early by researching well about the various B-schools and entrance exams in India. It will provide you with more time to analyze every bit of information and help you make a decision diligently. After all, you will be spending the next two years at one of the B-schools you applied in. You will study a programme that will propel your professional career to a higher level. Hence, start early and give yourself time to make an informed decision.
 2. Select your colleges
Often, students decide on colleges after giving their MBA entrance exams. Since the window between the exam day and the results day isn’t big, they don’t get enough time to research about MBA colleges. As a result, they end up joining colleges against their wishes. Make sure you avoid that mistake. For example, if you are attempting SNAP test 2019, do thorough research on the MBA programmes B-schools under Symbiosis International University (SIU) offer. It will help you select the programme and college that best suits your profile and qualities.
 3. Start preparing early for your MBA entrance exams
After selecting your college, start preparing early for the entrance exams whose score respective B-schools accept. The earlier you start, the more time you get for revision. You can also spend more time on understanding the paper pattern and syllabus of an entrance exam. It will help you identify which entrance exams have a similar paper pattern. Thus, you can prepare for multiple exams by concentrating on a single effort to ace them. Moreover, you get to know topics that carry more weightage over others. As a result, you can prioritize them and work smartly.
 4. Speak to current or former MBA students
The best way to gain relevant information about a college or a programme is by speaking to current or former MBA students. They can best describe the pros and cons of pursuing a particular programme from a specific college. Their experiences will act as a guiding light on your path towards getting selected in a top B-school. Moreover, you can develop a personal connection with these students and build yourself a strong professional network.
 5. Research about MBA specializations
There are several MBA specializations, such as Operations, Marketing, Finance, IT, etc. Each specialization offers a unique career path. It is up to you to decide which specialization suits you best. If you are good with numbers from a business perspective, you can pursue Finance. If you have a creative mindset and have an inclination in creating new ideas, you can opt for Marketing. If you’re good at managing and motivating people, a career in Human Resources suits you best. Therefore, choose a specialization that aligns with your personality and comes naturally to you. You can seek a career counsellor that can guide you with this process.
By applying these tips, you stand a chance to convert your life-long B-school dream into reality. All the best with your preparations!
