Hi why are people so toxic about shiping.
Hi, good question, short, and to the point, I like it. Wish my answers were like that. There are a lot of reasons, and the first reason is that this is the internet, and you're not looking each other in the face. Lets be honest here, almost all disagreements online turn toxic if they go on long enough, it's just the result of poor communication. When there is poor communication, people get tired, then they get snippy. Then when people get snippy against them, people get snippy back and you have escalation. Normally when there is a human face infront of you that serves as a mirror reflecting back the consequences of your words. You're constantly reminded of the humanity of the person you're talking to and the impact your words have. There is nothing like that online, every voice becomes just a representative of the whole, so you're not talking to a single person anymore, you're talking to a representative of all the people you've talked to about this before, who didn't listen, or who were dismissive, who, in short, were as tired about the whole thing as you were. Talking online is like talking in a hurricane, no one hears you anyway so you might as well scream.
This is why I am generally more inclined towards civil conversations here than on other platforms, because it's not a hurricane. The comments aren't lost, there are not a dozen other people who can interrupt and ensure the conversation goes nowhere. When people respond with toxically worded questions, you just don't post them, and the cycle is broken. I guarentee you that arguments about shipping very rarely turn toxic when the debate is happening in real life. People would be more inclined to adhere to the charity principle, just the very fact that you'd be talking to an actual person would make you feel heard, and therefore more careful not to break this fragile productive discussion. But online it really doesn't matter, you can say whatever and it doesn't matter, people wouldn't listen anyway and there is always a sea of other people to feel ignored by. In real life, mainly important topics get heated, not so online. It's death by a thousand cuts, every single back and forth makes people slightly more annoyed, instead of de-escalating every subsequent back and forth pours a bit more fuel on the fire. And since it doesn't matter how civil you are, you're not inclined to stay civil. You can write a very reasonable respectable 10.000 word reply and have it be dismissed by someone saying "you're just a cloti". Well, that doesn't really incentivize people making civil 10.000 word replies does it? You waste your time an achieve nothing, but you call someone a name and at the very least they get annoyed, at the very least you get something, so you might as well, get some revenge for all the time you've wasted. Besides, throwing crap around is a lot easier than cleaning it up. Someone can make 10 low effort troll replies designed to disuade people from having a discussion in the time it takes to create one well thought out good faith reply. As for why shipping debates in particular get so heated? I could say something cynical about it, but I prefer a more wholesome theory. I think people just love love. Toxic disagreement ultimately is the result of some form of passion, and love is a matter of the heart. If people aren't passionate about it, I think you've probably failed as an author. Great stories speak to people, they influence them and sometimes the events that happen to characters become as real as those that have happened to us ourselves. Every experience is precious, even if it just happened in our heads. In the words of Dumbledore "ofcourse it's happening inside your head, but why on earth would that mean it's not real?", a sentiment that should be extra poignant to fans of FFVII. The ability to empathize is one of mankinds most beautiful traits, and it allows us to not only understand and experience the feelings of other people, but even those of fictional characters, allowing us to learn and grow by experiencing things we could not experience in a thousand lifetimes, and yet, the very non-fictional concept of love is the one that's perhaps still closest to our hearts. So when we empathize with a character, and experience love through their journey, and then are told that that's not what happened, I think people feel a genuine sense of loss. Which is rather touching, regardless of the toxicity of the conversations it spawns.

not love
My opinion about this girlfriend thing is that J doesn’t love anyone bottom line, his interest and happiness is money and fame, he doesn’t even seem to respect or care about himself. Just using logic how can anyone be happy and ok in a relationship with people like Trashly and Fakery always around, being shamed that way, being ok being a secret at the time J wants everyone to believe he’s sleeping with other girls, having your guy related in public with these types, and walking at night after a party not with her but holding arms with trolls and 19yo trainwreck PJ, talking to randoms at the park, having all his fans believing she doesn’t exist and J being so ok with them believing fuckery, never setting the record straight, having their friends and family witnessing her being belittled and swapped, taking her guy saying he’s single with no personal life, private jets and vacations for trolls, posing sexy with reporters, what kind of relationship this would be? imo no one can take this much and honestly no one should, what’s the reason anyone would accept a deal like this? Just to be sometimes with a guy that prefers the world to believe he’s with some else and that she doesn’t exist? That kind of selfish onesided relationship is useless that’s not love, J is hot, rich, cute, famous, no denying he can be charming, but unless you’re a major gold digger with no self respect and no heart, I don’t see how this can work. When it comes to J anything is possible because as it seems he’s got no morals, no self control, and he’s lost sense of reality a long time ago, he could cut a fucked up deal with someone for his personal high and take advantage of that person’s love or gold digger ways, if he really has someone, I don’t believe it will last or come to anything because he obviously doesn’t want anything serious with anyone just to keep playing the field, but this would be a deal of fun for J, not love, just drop the love part anons, nothing in J’s life looks like love, I don’t believe J is capable of commitment or that he values love, if he’s got someone now, he’ll get someone else when he gets bored, that’s basically it, so it doesn’t make any difference who this so called girlfriend might be, she’s one of many that will be gone. And the loonies on social just ignore them, they’ll go on believing J loves them and shiping themselves, these fans are too fargone to be reasoned with, these cases are nothing new and won’t go away, this happens to every celebrity out there. You never know with JL, just my take. Thanks K have a good day, sorry you had problems the other day, hope everything turns out alright. 🙋 *** Maybe love is something he just does not crave in any other form other than one-sided blind and un-questioned adoration. Thanks, anon! I hope this shit I'm dealing with has a positive ending too! Hope you have a nice weekend! 😘 (http://kmp78.tumblr.com/post/147887250529/disclaimer-and-rules)

Homestuck, Misc
Okay, I’ve got a lot of ground to cover, so let’s go.
Aspect: Breath. I’ve been considering what this one means, and one part of it I haven’t seen much about: friendship. And I mean this in the My Little Pony/Steven Universe senses, where friendship and non-violent interaction becomes an alternative to violence. As for some examples: John first banishing the imps from his room, then later joining them to watch Con Air. Tavros uses his communion powers to turn foes into friends, doing very little fighting as he traverses his land. Later on, he uses his friendship powers to assemble the Massive Ghost Troll Army. Rufioh? Well, it seems everyone wants a piece of that ass, but I’ll grant that we didn’t see much of what he wound up doing.
Shipping. Gotta have some good shiping. I’d just like to bring to mind just a few lines that Roxy says to Callie, before her brother kills him.
TG: im worried 4 you TG: but optimistic TG: i will call ur name like a million times TG: and shout it in 2 the void every chance i get TG: til u come back :3
Which strikes me as being one of the most romantic statements in Homestuck. I totes HC them in the flushed quadrant.
Big news! Hiveswap has a launch date! Now, I haven’t been digging for information about this game, mostly because I want to go in as cleanly and spoiler-free as possible. Basically, I know what I got from the trailers. I do expect to enjoy Hussie’s humor some more. This also could mean we’d get some more people liveblogging Homestuck itself. But what I’m REALLY hoping for? To see the wiggler caverns. Mostly because I find the fanart of the wigglers to wind up being really enjoyable/funny.
