Okay, so, The Boys show’s biggest fake-to-real export is in-universe websites.
Here’s an overview:
There’s a real website with a trailer for the fake movie Dawn Of The Seven: https://www.dawnoftheseven.com/
The mega-company Vought has its own website, (doesn’t seem to work well on a phone) Instagram account, and YouTube channel. Their site is a surprisingly informative, pandering, multi-faceted website. It sure is a shame all of their links to the Times aren’t leading to articles right now. Hmm. Their fake, superhero-endorsed promotion of Grubhub however, does actually lead you to a Grubhub sign-up, which is hilarious. The same is true of the article about registering to vote. There’s also a promotion of some sort of Vought-affiliated browser? So, if you want to click that ‘download’ link and get to the bottom of that, that’s your prerogative.
The Instagram has in-character updates on Vought’s influences on the The Boys world, including insistence that there is a Vought+ Day (article, article) (which just so happens to coincide with Disney+ day) and the YouTube channel includes the Vought News Network.
The webpage for Godolkin University (a school founded by Vought) offers virtual tours and sells school merch.

It's clear to me that the writers did not really put much thought into the AU beyond ~vibes~, but if I had to square it with Am*nda Ov*rton's godawful headcanon about Vi's death changing things, it might be something vaguely like:
Everything plays out pretty much the way it already did up until S1E1.
Vi dies in the heist; the rest of the kids are arrested.
Silco, who already has his cannery full of Shimmer & goons, sees the opportunity and jumps on it.
He makes the same pitch to Vander: "Join me and fight. I don't need to beat them. I just need to scare them." As in: rattle Piltover badly enough that it brings them to the negotiating table.
Crucially, Vander's motivations have now changed. In the main timeline, he rejects Silco's offer in order to protect his children; in good timeline, he now has a reason to accept: to save his children.
Together, he and Silco reach a compromise that takes advantage of the high-profile nature of Vi's death.
Between Silco's network and Vander's community-building, they organise city-wide labour strikes to bring Piltover's economy to a standstill. Mines, factories, docks, everything. These strikes are backed up by Shimmer - enforcers and strike-breakers sent to intervene get to FAFO.
After the first round of successful strikes, Vander's remaining children are released without charges, but now that Zaun has successfully mobilised and achieved something, and has Shimmer as a line of defence, the strikes continue. Demands may or may not include any combination of: reparations, workers' rights, profit shares, environmental protections, legal protections, self-determination (council representation? devolved government? full independence?), etc. etc. etc.
Unable to break the Shimmer-backed strikes and with a significant portion of their economy knee-capped, public sentiment in Piltover starts to turn against those Councillors unwilling to negotiate.
Eventually, the public and economic pressure wins out, and Piltover enters into negotiations with Zaun.
Without the yoke of Piltover's exploitation around their neck, this begins the process of kick-starting Zaun's own development towards what we see in episode 7 (with an assist from Heimerdinger who pops in approximately 4 years into this timeline).
Shimmer is still around in a limited capacity (you can see it here and there in some of the chemtech lanterns), but primarily used for chemtech and medical purposes (likely still a valuable export in this regard, boosting Zaun's economy independently of Piltover).
The notion that, "Silco just went and got his eye fixed in Piltover!" is... lol. Like it isn't a whole plot point in S1 that even with all the trade & knowledge exchange in the world, Piltover can't do shit for the kinds of chronic/degenerative conditions caused by toxic waste in Zaun, and that even in S2, an actual Piltover Councillor needs to use Shimmer for his pain management. BUT SURE, let's just say that because this is an 'everything worked out' AU, bodyswap Heimerdinger reconciled with Singed and they made super-mega-turbo medical advancements or some shit, why not.
TL;DR I resent the idea that Vi's death just made Piltover decide to ✨stop oppressing✨ Zaun, and instead prefer to attribute it to her death being the catalyst for mass direct action, backed up by real force, in order to force concessions from Piltover.
Edited to add: I think this slots in well with S2, mess that it is, for a couple of reasons:
Going back to S1, it dovetails in extremely neatly with characters and their motivations as they exist in S1 Act 1, and how those characters' actions and choices exist in a web of cause-and-effect with other characters and the setting. Vi's death & the kids' imprisonment changes Vander's motivations (the lynchpin) -> Vander allied with Silco is able to moderate his plans -> both of them, as former miners-turned-revolutionaries, likely have a history of labour organising -> the domino effect begins to fan out.
Likewise, topside, it puts the Kiramman family under pressure because someone died on their property -> they have a history of philanthropy (sponsoring Jayce) and doing at least one (1) charitable thing for the undercity, so Cassandra is likely to lead the side of the Councillors arguing for negotiating with Zaun -> etc.
Good Timeline Vander is wearing a very similar fit to the exact outfit we see Silco wearing on the Day of Ash, has stolen his revolutionary manbun look, and has a Hound of the Underground tattoo (amongst others) where he used to wear his brace. To me, this visual language is intended to suggest that he set aside the guilt and fear that immobilised him (the bracer) and took up the cause of Zaunite liberation once more.
It allows for a parallel where Vi becomes the face of this movement, even though she never intended to be, just as main timeline Jinx becomes a symbol of the revolution without ever meaning to.
After making that essay about all my gripes with act three, I wanna delve into what rubbed me the wrong way about episode seven. Now, don’t get me wrong, it is my second favorite episode of the season (right behind episode four) but everything just felt off, and now I’m able to explain why.
It felt fake. Artificial. Too good to be true. Too polished. Everyone in Zaun was basically a Piltie lite and I hated to see it. I know Zaun doesn’t even technically exist, as it never did officially get its freedom, but Piltover and Zaun are known as twin cities for a reason. They are intertwined, yes, but also completely different. Zaun has its own vibe. It’s punk, patchwork, unpolished, mismatched. But also vibrant, brilliant, thoughtfully crafted and beautiful in its own way. It’s unique. It feels so real, and for the au to strip all that away and make Zaun feel like a shell of its former self was not it.
Zaun has such a rich culture. Not without its own host of flaws ofc, but what culture is perfect? And obviously there are political reasons for why Zaunites do things the way they do (it’s because Piltover’s oppressions forces them to get creative). While I resent the reasons as to why Zaunites have to be so resourceful and creative, I adore the things they were able to build in spite of their hardships. Makes me identify with Zaun even more. The au took all that away. Everything that made Zaun what it is wasn’t there, and I didn’t care for it.
Furthermore, the whole au falls apart if you stop and think about it. Why would Vi’s death be anything more than a drop in the bucket to Piltover? They had been oppressing Zaun for centuries? Vi is not only a Zaunite, but she was also a teenager. There’s a lot to be said about how teenagers aren’t really seen as kids by a lot of folks, and are “less innocent” and their lives are seen as “less important” (though ofc no one would admit that have that kind of bias). Plus when you consider that by virtue of being a Zaunite, Vi would already be considered “less than”, her life would not matter to Piltover WHATSOEVER. Best case, and I do mean best case scenario, they give Vander some financial compensation so he could afford to give Vi the proper funeral she deserves. But I’d bet money they never would’ve even considered doing that if I’m being realistic.
Also, that’s just a horrible message to send. Vi, the parentified child, who spent her whole life fighting like hell to protect her loved ones, had to die in order for not just her family, but her city to flourish. HUH??? That’s an awful thing to imply! Vi dying would NOT have lead to everyone else being fine. It would not have led Vander and Silco to forgive each other. It would NOT led to Zaun prospering economically. It would not have led to Zaun becoming just like Piltover in the worst of ways. That doesn’t even make any sense! Correlation does not equal causation, but those two things have no correlation to begin with! Obviously I know that’s not the message the writers meant to convey, but that’s what they ended up doing imo, and I don’t like that.
Lastly, why are we acting like Hextech is the problem? The oppressive system of Piltover existed way before Hextech came along, so why would its lack of being there affect things that much? Cause if not Hextech, some other revolutionary technology would’ve been invented that somehow only benefits some and hurts everyone else who isn’t as privileged. And yes, ofc I know Hextech only exists precisely BECAUSE of the systemic inequalities between Piltover and Zaun, but it is by no means wholly responsible for these inequalities. Responsible for widening the gap between Piltover and Zaun? Yes! Responsible for the existence of the gap in the first place? Hell no! And it felt like it was framed that way.
Anyways TL;DR I wasn’t a fan of the au episode because I felt like it unintentionally sent a horrible message and didn’t stay true to what makes Zaun, Zaun. It ripped out all its best parts and functionally turned it into Piltover Jr. and a fan of that I am NOT

I require only the barest prompting to talk about engine designs and their tradeoffs.
In the beginning was the turbojet engine, and it was good, but only if you were willing to fly extremely high and incredibly fast. With appropriate intake geometry to break the shockwave ahead of the turbines, a turbojet can go well into supersonic territory.
Turbojets really want to be way up at the supersonic end of travel, because they're pure jet engines. This means that 100% of their thrust is derived from a stream of extremely fast moving exhaust gas coming out the back. The hot-section turbines tap off a tiny amount of energy to run the compressors up front, but otherwise this is basically just a rocket: expanding hot gas out the back, go forward really fast.

The problem with pure turbojets is that they're kind of garbage at anything other than those extremely high speeds. Just, they burn a ton of fuel and they don't extract energy from that fuel very well. This is all good and well if you're running a military, where fuel cost is only slightly important, but if you're trying to run a commercial airline, fuel costs add up fast. Plus, carrying enough fuel for long distance flights becomes a concern.
Hence, you may invent the low-bypass turbine engine. In this mode, you tap off a little more energy from the hot exhaust, which you use to drive an oversized intake fan and push on the air like a more normal prop plane. This lowers the exhaust velocity, which means you can't possibly go as fast as the hot jet exhaust of a pure turbojet, but produces the same lower thrust for much less fuel at lower speeds.
In this design, the front fans also duct air right around the turbine, driven by those turbines in the exhaust. This more efficiently extracts energy from the hot exhaust, but you get an overall slower exhasut stream due to a combination of effects, namely that you stole energy from the exhaust, and the mixing of the bypass air and the exhaust.
What this design is pretty good at is reasonably fast craft that are far more fuel efficient. You're usually looking at something like 1-3× as much air going around the engine as through it in these low-bypass designs, so your exhaust is still pretty fast. Indeed, most modern military jets use these, and when they want to go supersonic they dump fuel into the exhaust to get a kick of speed.

However really most instructive for our comparison here is the venerable Boeing 737, a plane that is probably older than almost everyone reading this, having been first used over 50 years ago, and it has been refreshed to use modern high-bypass engines later in life. The first 737's were all low-bypass turbofan.

Now, for a while low-bypass turbofan was what was in vogue for commercial airlines. Barring a few special cases like the Comet's turbojets, it hit the right balance of being cheap to make, not too fuel inefficient, and easy to build.
Now, we briefly detour to history: the 1973 oil crisis, when the Organization of Arab Petroleum Exporting Countries (OAPEC) decided to embargo the US, UK, Canada and Japan for their support of Israel in the Yom Kippur War. I'm not going to go into the politics of the post-1973 oil economy right now, but let's say this had a notable impact on the economy and the world of engineering.
Oil has never held a price as low as it was in 1973 for more than a scant few moments since. The price of oil climbed overnight and kept going. Suddenly, fuel cost became a very important factor in transport technologies. If you ever wonder why so many shitty cars came out of the USA in the 70's, this is why: a bunch of manufacturers who were used to cheap oil suddenly had to move from big block, seven liter V8's to compact cars with almost zero warning.
Prior to this, it was profitable to run planes pretty fast and do lots of flights. After this, running that fast ate the profit of frequent flights in fuel costs, so planes went slower, and fleet purchasers put out requests for more efficient planes. As a result, the previously quite limited High Bypass Turbofan became the name of the game.
In this design, far more air is ducted around the engine, with only a small amount going to feed the turbine. Anywhere from 5 to 20× as much air goes around as through. This dramatically reduces peak thrust, but also fuel efficiency goes way up. Historically high bypass engines were only found in limited use for a handful of heavy-lift cargo craft. Now, all major jet airliners ran these, and it's why modern jets have these enormous engine pods. Here's a modern 737

If you, like me, grew up on a diet of aeroplane books from the 80's, this plane looks weird a hell, those engines are stubby and massive, because they're mostly just empty space. If you're not weird about it, this is just a jet. The modern high-bypass engine is tricky because making ultra-light but huge engines that don't just melt requires some advanced engineering witchcraft. Stuff like perfectly cast turbine blades that are perfect single metal crystals.
With these gains in efficiency, modern airlines can just barely break even, because as anyone knows, the fastest way to become a millionaire is to be a billionaire and buy an airline.

Even for its most dedicated fans, the Need for Speed video game franchise’s legacy exists on shaky footing. Since Need for Speed Carbon’s release in 2006, successive new titles in have struggled to live up to the earlier games’ appeal. Recent offerings such as Rivals and Most Wanted left fans looking back and wanting more. The latest NFS installment, Need for Speed: Heat, is a much-needed return to form.
Now, let’s back up for a second. I know what you’re thinking. Doesn’t MotorTrend review real cars? Yes, we do. But, when we wrap up those super-hard duties—hey, someone‘s gotta put Ferraris and stuff through their paces—we go home, flick on our game consoles, and kill time just like the rest of you. Given how we’re car nuts, you can probably guess the types of games we get into. And besides, we review plenty of car stuff that isn’t strictly, well, cars.
With a little extra time on hand lately, I downloaded the latest NFS installment for $59.99 on Playstation 4 and got to playing. The title is also available for Xbox One and PC. Having been playing NFS titles since the Nintendo GameCube was a thing, I’m happy to report that with Need For Speed: Heat, the series has, at long last, satisfied this life-long fan once more.
Set in Palm City, a fictionalized version of Miami, the world of Need For Speed: Heat includes a proper downtown area, a sprawling port, and even a NASA-like base with a rocket ready for take-off. The in-game story revolves around you, a wannabe hardcore racer, the Rivera family, and your fight to get to the top of Palm City’s racing scene. Lucas, a former racer himself, acts as your mechanic while Ana is your proverbial partner in crime. She ropes you into races and drives the story, all in an effort to get into “The League,” a group of Palm City’s most elite racers.
The League has access to the sweetest rides and have the baddest reputation. But where The League sits on one side of the law, Lt. Frank Mercer, a crooked cop who runs a specialized task force to hunt down street races, resides on the other. Heat’s story sees your character push Mercer to take ever more drastic action to thwart your efforts until he goes a step too far. Eventually, his chop shop and car exporting side businesses are exposed, and it’s up to you to take him down.
The story itself is a little plain, and the game’s campaign mode is pretty standard arcade racing stuff and takes around 10 hours to complete from start to finish. Even so, it’s fantastic compared to the aimless nonsense of NFS: Rivals, and finds a way to keep its players wondering what’ll happen next. Enjoyable as the campaign mode is, I wished it were both longer and filled with more races and surprises. That said, the storyline isn’t really why you buy Need for Speed: Heat. At the end of the day, it’s all about the cars, and this is where Heat truly shines.
The roster of vehicles available to you is, in a word, expansive and includes everything from the Lamborghini Diablo to the Ferrari 458 Italia, and from the 1969 Camaro SS to the Volvo Amazon P130(!). The level of customization is diverse without being overbearing. The body kits are based off of what’s available in the aftermarket—meaning if you want a widebody kit for your Nissan GTR, there’s nothing stopping you. You can even turn your 488 GTB into a 488 GT race car, if you’re so inclined.
You can also modify your cars’ performance, dropping in clutches, engines, brakes, new wheels, tires, crankshafts, turbos, suspension bits, and more. You also can adjust and tune several chassis and powertrain aspects. If you like drift races, modify your ride to suit the twistys. If you prefer the straight and narrow, make your car as fast as you can for the normal street races. Race during the day to earn cash and race at night to earn rep—just make sure you can get away from the cops.
The controls are easy to master, and as with every other Need for Speed game, they take little time to get truly comfortable with. You can also fine tune your car by adjusting how much downforce it has and how sensitive it is to turn-in. The developers even bothered to get the displacements for every in-game cars’ engines correct. That’s a level of attention to detail we’ve never seen before in a Need for Speed game, and the car nerd in me genuinely appreciated those little touches.
Heat has something for everyone. It’s not as edgy or gritty as NFS: Underground 2, and it doesn’t offer as much customization as Carbon did—which, looking back, hasn’t been matched by any game since then. That said, it is a move in the right direction for the NFS franchise as it finally steps out from under the shadow of the ho-hum versions that came before it. Heat can finally live up to the greats. All publisher Electronic Arts has to do now is not screw up the next one. Then we’d really be getting somewhere.
