#Twin Star-Commencement Chapter 1

to just get something out of my system, I need to jot down 'scenes' I have in my head, for the school festival arc. I'm thinking a lot about past Tsukasa, the play, time travel... head spinning over the possibilities.
(These aren't really predictions, they're more like. Visions. Anyways...)
I really love how Tsukasa words this — that the irregular time flow winds up feeling like a daydream...
It makes me dwell on how Nene and Mitsuba weren't even entirely sure what was happening, as they set foot in the past version of the festival. Of course, your mind leaps to 'logical' conclusions, so it is sooner assumed that, somehow, the festival had just... started... as opposed to being launched back in time! It all transpires so quickly — it really must feel like a daydream, stars in your eyes as you rub them. Did you really see that...?
So, with that in mind, and the likelihood that Tsukasa's class was putting on a production of The Wizard of Oz, since Tsukasa was humming "Over the Rainbow" in Ch 101... I feel like that means there will eventually be an overlap of Nene's class play / and Tsukasa's class play...? Time's unstable flow and it being the same production feels like too much of an opportunity.
It feels like we could watch an innocent Nene-chan rehearsing for her role, then enter the auditorium... but, wait, things aren't quite right — it's The Wizard of Oz, but the props aren't the ones she helped make..! The outfits are wrong, the students are different...! She's in the past-!! (I wonder if it could even be as extreme as, she's in the present until she exits onto the stage, and then she's launched into the past, and has to just act natural, haha.)
But amidst the disorientation, spotting Tsukasa in a corner... clearly looking towards her, smiling. Beckoning her towards the back...? With no other options, Nene is magnetized towards him. He leads her towards the entrance to the clock room Amane worked in. It'd be kind of atmospheric to be trailing after Tsukasa, the distant sounds of the play becoming muffled... entering this more cramped, lonely space. I'd like it to feel ominous, but for Tsukasa to be smiling warmly, pleased and leading her to where she needs to be. Calmly unlocking the door, letting her in.
9.9 It'd be a dream for them to talk alone, in somewhere like this... Explained or alluded to key elements about the clock, No. 1, the twins' history. Though no matter what, I typically feel like the most cinematic 'closing out' would be that Nene cuts back to the present day, while in this place, suddenly granted access to somewhere she wouldn't normally know where it is or how to get to it. Shuffled to her next 'goal', where she needs to be.
If the clock IS the entrance to No. 1's boundary, it'd be interesting for Nene to commence that little 'quest'... ? Running into Hanako there, as well, considering — he might be hiding his memories and intentions for this clock. Maybe he would have presumed Nene to be busy with her play... Well, and now factoring in the most recent chapter, she could also just converge with Natsuhiko ww, how unexpected... Seeing the currently ? decaying? form of the large clock. Exciting stuff...
Whatever the case, I'm curious what'll wind up happening! I can never meaningfully predict exact events. These are really my own little daydreams~ ( ̄▽ ̄)

Darth Vader A+ Parenting.
While Darth Vader in canon ain’t exactly the nicest fellow, this is a Vader or Anakin who has no qualms getting what he wants and using any methods to do so.
Or otherwise known as Darth Vader A+ Parenting.
1. to gain a son Russy
After falling into a trap laid by the Empire and being captured by two Inquisitors, Luke Skywalker wakes up in an unfamiliar room with an unfamiliar man watching over him.
https://archiveofourown.org/works/25019218/chapters/60586045
2. No Time Like The Present PinkEasterEggs
In a Galaxy where Princess Leia Organa and Luke Vader have always known they were twins, a deadly discovery by their biggest enemy throws their entire lives upside down. Yet again.
Now on the run from the Empire, the Skywalker twins find it their mission to bring peace back to the Galaxy once more. And with Darth Vader on their trail, that mission is far more complicated than they originally believed.

(Note* Part 3 of the Back To The Future series. Can be read as standalone)
3. The Heir - SpellCleaver
Darth Vader just killed his master and learned a galaxy-changing truth: the child Palpatine adopted, the Imperial prince and heir, is actually Vader’s son, raised by Palpatine to torment him.
Meanwhile, Luke Palpatine just woke up from severe injuries he sustained in a Rebel attack to a galaxy where his father is dead, he is the Emperor, and the figure from all his childhood nightmares is acting suspiciously nice.
They figure it out from there.

4. Eclipse - SpellCleaver
Luke and Leia, the twin children of Darth Vader and heirs to the Emperor himself, defect. When they do, it's naturally a dream come true for the Rebellion and the mother they never knew, one that's been a long time in the making.
But they have to get to that point first.
Or: Darth Vader unwittingly sends his children down the merry path of treason... and the ugly, painful fallout.

5. Walking the Line Between - aradian_nights

( How the Other Half Lives - aradian_nights)
(Note* the entire series is this but more in particular the recent additions, I’ve already discussed this story multiple times before so you know the drill )
6. The kidnappings of a Sith Lord - maedre13
How a certain Sith Lord may or may not kidnap his rebel son. One-shots. Strongly inspired by sparklight´s “Where Our Intrepid Hero Doesn´t Get Away”.

(Note* not all these chapters are Vader at his worst but he isn’t exactly a top notch parent in them either)
7. How to Save the World from its Heroes - stardustgirl
Being the Avatar’s—and Fire Lord’s—non-bending heir isn’t what Luke signed up for. He also didn’t sign up for an Agni Kai he can’t possibly win, or for getting dragged into a search for someone who can kill his own dad. Then again, someone has to bring the world back into balance, and if his dad won’t, then Luke might as well give it his best shot. After all, how much worse can things get?

(Note* Only started and already you can see Vader A+ Parenting in all its glory)
8. your heart is full of stars and your hands full of shattered glass -victoriousscarf
Nineteen years ago, Vader took his children off Mustafar, and Palpatine raised them to be Sith, the perfect weapons he had been looking for.
Except the very eve of his greatest victory, the fully functional Death Star, Luke Skywalker defects to the floundering but growing Rebel Alliance. His sister follows because someone needs to watch out for that fool.

9. Love of a daughter. - youngjusticewriter
"and yet, so far at least we have yet to figure out what you gain from this." It's a question as well as statement. A chance to explain, to come clean on why she - a unknown Sith- had assassinated they're precious, beloved Chancellor (what fools). But how could you come clean when there is so much blood on her hands? Never-mind the sins and blood on Vader and Luke's when her family had been alive.
When she answers it's not because she's announcing her transgressions in hope that her heavy, dirty soul might be saved. One couldn't repent when they didn't feel guilt in their sin.
"For the love of a daughter." Leia pauses and looks back at Anakin and thinks: I did this to avenge you. After thinking that Leia says one more thing - the last thing actually because she nothing else to say after this.
"And you should have been more careful electing your Chancellor. You never know who is Sith." This has double meaning but she's the only person who knows it.
And she's fine with that (no, she isn't).
Leia wonders if her younger self and Luke will ever become the monsters like her Luke had been and the monster she is.
https://archiveofourown.org/works/10924239/chapters/24297558
10. Literal Hell - TreeOfTime
Luke Lars is content as a Moisture Farmer with his father and mother... until two people come to find what was lost to them...
Then all hell broke lose
https://archiveofourown.org/works/22579066/chapters/53957833
(Note* oh dear lord Vader A+ Parenting in its full glory, a Sith Leia for flavour and a non force sensitive Luke. )
11. Dynasty - Valerie_Vancollie: Co-authored by Rebecca Thomson aka Zekkers.
Hit in the leg by a stormtrooper's blaster bolt, Luke falls in the Death Star hanger bay and is unable to escape on the Falcon along with Han and Leia. During the subsequent interrogation, his true heritage is revealed and Vader instantly takes him to Coruscant, determined to reclaim the son the Jedi stole from him. But the glory of the Imperial capital belies its true nature, where politics and power are everything and anything is fair game in the never ending game to reach the top. Not lying, not betrayal, assassination, sabotage, blackmail, nor seduction. As he commences his Sith training, Luke must also learn the rules and etiquette of the Imperial Court if he is to survive as most of his enemies fight their battles with words and political maneuverings rather than military force. Yet, even as he struggles to gain his place within the Empire, Luke learns that his best friend has joined the Alliance...
https://archiveofourown.org/works/13111908/chapters/29997507
12. Fractured twists - Annessarose
Timelines are fickle things.
Every line is balanced precariously on the precipice. One shift, one twitch of a finger, one step in the wrong direction, and entire stories change. Lives flicker out, galaxies rise and fall, but the Force is always a constant.
Each moment is carefully balanced. We know how the Siege of Mandalore happened - how the former Jedi padawan Ahsoka Tano led her men into victory. How she defeated Maul in single combat and earned the loyalty of Lady Bo-Katan Kyrze. How she rode her ship too late to meet with Anakin Skywalker, and how the galaxy fell and burned under the hand of the Sith.
This is the way it could have gone if Obi-Wan had followed Ahsoka to Mandalore.
https://archiveofourown.org/works/24158608
13. Runaway- Valerie_Vancollie
Co-authored by Rebecca Thomson aka Zekkers & a contest winner.
What if Luke had runaway from Tatooine and joined the Imperial Academy?
https://archiveofourown.org/works/12976095
14. A Mother's Decision - Valerie_Vancollie
What if Padmé had brought Luke to Vader when Luke was only nine months old?
https://archiveofourown.org/works/12915687
15. Descent into Darkness - Valerie_Vancollie
What if instead of waiting for Luke to come to him on Endor, Vader had gone for Luke and the others, capturing them while with the Ewoks?
https://archiveofourown.org/works/12908223
16. Avenge and Conquer - arikylo
The Alliance has fallen into a very well laid trap and now Luke has no choice but to hand himself over to Vader. But what does the father have in store for the son? Can Luke handle the torture and the ruthless tactics of the Empire or will he be forced to surrender and embrace the dark side?
The struggle between the light and the dark is strenuous, relationships crumble and all is looking bleak for the Alliance.
Dark!AU set after ESB.
https://archiveofourown.org/works/3058115/chapters/6639581
17. The Terrorist - Seasider
High above Bespin in Cloud City, Vader chooses not reveal his identity and instead uses deceit to trick Luke into surrendering. The Dark Lord has a lot on his agenda, so he entrusts the breaking of his son to an Imperial interrogator, unaware that the man has an agenda of his own: revenge.
https://archiveofourown.org/works/24810643/chapters/60006952
(Note* Dead Dove do not eat. Contains some reall fucked up shit)
18. Consequences - treenahasthaal
An intense burst of light and a vicious blow to his left shoulder sent him spinning violently backward and he fell...
What if Luke hadn't made it off the Death Star immediately following Kenobi's death?
https://archiveofourown.org/works/809144/chapters/1527145
(Note* It’s also a boba fett/ luke)
19. Instinct - treenahasthaal
There was something about the blond boy in the crowd of detainees that caught Commander Yarryn's attention. Something that pulled at his gut and told him there was more about this captive than met the eye. It was his duty to find out what it was the boy was hiding - and find it he would, for Yarryn was very good at his job.
12 weeks after the destruction of the Death Star.
https://archiveofourown.org/works/2185854/chapters/4785594
( Part 1 of the Invictus series)
20. Child of Mine - Oneshotshipper
AU. Darth Vader discovers Leia at a young age. Barely managing to escape her father's clutches the first time, young Leia goes into hiding and becomes the Empire's most-wanted fugitive. If the second time comes, fate will not be as kind. Meanwhile, Darth Vader would tear apart the galaxy itself to possess and keep his child. The Dark Side seems to inevitably be the fate of the Skywalkers.
21. To Catch a Daughter, One must... - ftbprotocol
A variety of AU one-shots where in canon Leia stayed a secret, but in these stories did not. Because there needs to be more Leia and Vader fic!
https://archiveofourown.org/works/12173637/chapters/27632673
22. Daughter Over The Son - Keetajet
Work is inspired by ftbprotocol's work "To Catch a Daughter, One must..."
The moment where Darth Vader did not save his son. Instead, he will have his daughter.
Leia's future went downhill the moment she felt her brother die on the second Death Star, leading to their capture on Endor. Only she, Han, and Chewie survived the failed ground assault and they were restrained and being held at gun point.
She has a bad feeling about this.
https://archiveofourown.org/works/25354183/chapters/61476130
23. Before the Emperor - SilverDaye
Luke is defeated and captured at Cloud City by Vader. He is then dragged before the Emperor. However Palpatine is dead. Luke's father is alive. And someone else holds the reigns to Vader and the Empire.

-----------
Kagami and Marinette decided on New Year’s Eve Eve as date night, since the Eve itself was spoken for. While they normally didn’t frequent many Chinese or Japanese restaurants given the quality of what they could have at home, this particular restaurant was a new Asian fusion place, one that mixed Vietnamese, Thai, Cambodian, Korean, Chinese, and Japanese cuisines. It had received glowing reviews.
The fusion theme also appealed to both of them, based on the symbolism of their recent engagement, and they had dressed appropriately. Kagami was wearing a kimono-style tunic Marinette had designed and made for her, red and black with a diagonal half-skirt, over leggings with some very stylish boots. A matching fabric headband finished the look. Marinette was wearing the full-length qipao she had sewn for last year’s Lunar New Year. It was black with pink embroidery, and she’d added an experimental French flair with peeping black lace down the false slit along the shoulder and all the way down the dress. Kagami had confessed it was one of her favorites, so she loved to spoil her by wearing it. She had put her hair in twin buns again, the same style she had worn when Kagami proposed.
Even in a crowded restaurant, Marinette was hyper-aware of Kagami, of the details of every moment. She loved the feeling that they were in their own world, a special intensity to everything. No moment spent with her was boring; she brought life to everything by virtue of her presence.
Some fusion restaurants simply had food from multiple cultures, but this one actually fused different dishes in fascinating ways. Even better: the servings were tapas-style, so smaller portions, enabling them to try an assortment of options. With each dish, they posted pictures to Instagram, tagging the restaurant and working to come up with descriptions of the flavors to describe to people who might want to try it.
They were both fascinated by the menu and its many options. For her drink, Marinette chose a Korean, Chinese, and Taiwanese inspired omija chrysanthemum milk tea with rose jelly, which was unique and delicious. The mix of flavors was heady, hitting the whole tongue at once. Kagami selected a Taiwanese and Vietnamese fusion, orange tamarind boba smoothie; also fantastic, both fruits a mix of sweet and tart that somehow leveled out both in a way that enhanced the drink.
Since soups traditionally started the meal, they decided on seafood chao ga with dashi flavoring and clams, whitefish, and sea urchin—lovely rice porridge for the cold. The texture was thick and the dashi lent a savory flavor that balanced the fish well. Kagami mentioned that one of the flavors was possibly the light earthy-sweet of miso paste, as well as ginger and a touch of rayu chili oil.
Then they decided on an assortment of bāozi stuffed with different things, including Korean bulgogi, Thai coconut curry chicken, Japanese unagi no kabayaki, Cambodian fish amok, and Vietnamese bun cha. Marinette was familiar with all but the last two. The fish amok turned out to be a unique yogurt-thick fish curry made with coconut milk and a mixture of spices that offered a savory quality rather than heat. Bun cha was amazing grilled pork belly that had been marinated in fish sauce and mixed with rice vermicelli and pickled vegetables, all stuffed in a perfectly-steamed bun.
They also tried a couple types of okonomiyaki, one with kimchi and japchae and the other with spicy Sichuan làzǐ jī. The japchae folded into the pancake was sweet potato glass noodles, strips of beef, and a variety of thin-sliced vegetables, and it matched well with the spicy tang of the kimchi spread atop. A sweet umami Korean junganjang cream sauce, a light spiral on the red kimchi, cut the heat a bit and added another layer of flavor. The làzǐ jī was the kind of spicy that would put off those not used to Sichuan peppercorns, a wonderful numbing sort of flavor that was tempered by the okonomiyaki batter, paired well with a Japanese-style sweet ginger mayonnaise drizzled over the top.
By that point, all they could handle was dessert.
Kagami ordered Chinese gāo diǎn stuffed with Thai pumpkin coconut pudding; they were glazed lightly with a spritz of honey-rosewater. Still warm, the pudding and pastry melted together in the mouth. Marinette opted for Cambodian mango sweet sticky rice with a scoop of black sesame ice cream that both of them knew had roots in both China and Japan. They tried each part separately, then mixed, enjoying the texture of the slightly-warm sticky rice against the icy cream of the ice cream, and the way the different varieties of sweet melded.
Marinette had just fed Kagami the last spoon of the ice cream when their table was abruptly surrounded by people with cameras and microphones, startling her into dropping the spoon. The clatter it made sounded louder than the cacophony of competing voices that assailed them.
She only made our pieces of them, words and phrases.
“... that you’re a gold-digger…?”
“...stalked Adrien Agreste…?”
“...settled for…?”
“...Chinese concubine…?”
Though Marinette felt frozen under the deluge of abusive questions, Kagami stood at that last one.
The reporters quieted somewhat, waiting for a response.
“You dare imply the love of my life is the equivalent of ianfu?!” She pinpointed the man who had asked the question and Marinette noted absently that he was, of course, an older white man. “Ah, you work for that rag. My lawyer will be in contact.”
Marinette stood, trying to find courage in the fire in Kagami’s eyes.
“We do not consent to be filmed or photographed. If any footage or photos appear in any of your media, you will hear from our lawyers,” Marinette added, reaching out and taking Kagami’s hand.
She received a reassuring squeeze. This had happened immediately following their announcement, and in preparation for that Tomoe had the Tsurugi family lawyer appraise them of their right to control being photographed and the use of those photographs—one of the lovelier facets of French law.
The cameras lowered, but the questions commenced, their personal space invaded as what she realized were tabloid reporters jockeyed for position.
Marinette felt hemmed in, trapped by the ugly questions.
In the distance someone yelled, “Is that Adrien Agreste?!”
The shift away from them allowed Kagami to pull her toward the kitchen, which they were thankfully seated near.
Marinette nearly jumped out of her skin when someone touched her shoulder, but standing behind her was Wayhem.
He pulled them into the kitchen, where a waiter handed them their coats and whisked them toward a back exit.
“Adrien?” Kagami asked Wayhem, slipping several large bills to the waiter, far more than enough to cover their meal.
The clipped nature of her tone hinted at her stress.
“In the car. One of my buddies in a wig is distracting the morons.”
Marinette let out a breath she hadn’t realized she was holding. Whatever had sparked this, it was big enough for Adrien and Wayhem to mount a rescue—and do it quickly.
The back door of the car opened as they rushed out, and Adrien scooted over to make room for them. Wayhem didn’t bother trying to squeeze in back, instead taking the front passenger seat beside the Gorilla.
Before she could entirely register what happened, the car was pulling out of the alley, the restaurant receding in the background.
Kagami squeezing her hand brought her back to the present.
“I don’t understand,” she murmured. “I thought it had died down.”
“You missed us talking about that, Mari.” Adrien offered her a smile that was tinged with sadness. “It had. Then there were rumors spread by someone to major and minor tabloids. They literally started breaking an hour ago.”
Marinette felt overwhelmed, almost like her skin was too heavy and smothering to bear. “The things they were saying…”
Kagami wrapped her in an embrace, and the feeling started to ease immediately—because they were together, in this. Together in everything.
“My father is coordinating with Tomoe on finding out what happened. But it sounds like different rumors were released to different places, all at once almost.”
“Throwing shit at the wall to see what sticks,” Wayhem added.
Adrien scowled then, a look she almost never saw on him, and she realized he was truly angry on their behalf.
“I would bet anything we know who it was, though these faux journalists might pull the ‘protect their sources’ routine.”
Marinette went cold, her eyes meeting Kagami’s. They were filled with a fire that consumed, rather than that which usually smoldered.
“Lila.” Kagami said the name like it was something disgusting she had to expel.
“H-how… You got here so fast,” Marinette murmured. “Thank you.”
“We were on our way out for date night when the news broke,” Wayhem explained. “We saw you were at that restaurant—sounds amazing, by the way—and had the Gorilla divert.”
“Wayhem called ahead to the restaurant. Then he had a friend who lives nearby and does cosplay at comic conventions play decoy. I called my father, and he’s gotten in touch with Tomoe. Nathalie’s texting me updates.” Adrien’s lips twisted further. “Some of those rumors involve me, which means he’ll actually do something. Because ‘it affects the brand.’ Otherwise he wouldn’t care.”
Oddly, his anger helped ease her distress. Marinette let herself melt into Kagami’s arms, using breathing exercises Fu had taught her so long ago to work on finding her calm. As awful as this was, she couldn’t afford to get Akumatized.
“We aren’t headed to my home,” Kagami noted. “Or to Marinette’s.”
“Paparazzi.” Wayhem turned in his seat. “They’re camped out. It’s a mess.”
“Chloé called. We’re going to the Grand Paris.”
Marinette looked at him incredulously.
“She’s changed.” Adrien shrugged. “She’s probably mad on my behalf, not yours. But she extended the offer. My house is mobbed, too.”
A buzzing sensation registered against Marinette’s leg, and she realized it was Tikki trying to get her attention. She reached her hand in her purse and Tikki pressed her phone into it. She had missed calls and texts from Alya.
Alya: I didn’t know he’d do that.
Alya: he took evrythng out of context
Alya: that bastard i;m sorry
Alya: Mari pick up plz
Another call came in from Alya and Marinette pressed accept.
“Oh thank god! Mari, you got away?” Alya sounded positively frantic. “The feeds cut when you told them off.”
“Yeah. Adrien and Wayhem helped us escape. Putting you on speaker.”
“Thank god for the gays.” Alya’s voice filled the car. “Fucking Alec Cataldi, he… Dammit, I had no idea. He asked about our friendship and I thought it was like for a fluff piece or something.”
Marinette’s heart sank into her gut as she catastrophized over what Alya could have said.
Adrien held out his phone, a video playing.
“Yeah, we’re all awesome friends. For a while Mari had trouble talking to Adrien, had a big crush, bu—”
The clip cut to Alec Cataldi. “And there you have it, folks. An inside source confirms: Marinette Dupain-Cheng, fiancée of Kagami Tsurugi, was involved in a love triangle. An anonymous source revealed a history of stalking and trying to use Adrien Agreste to jump-start her fashion career. So is she a gold-digger…?”
Adrien stopped the clip.
“I’m so sorry!” Alya’s voice was strangled with rage and guilt.
Kagami wiped at her face with the sleeve of her tunic; Marinette hadn’t realized she’d been crying.
“That… You didn’t know,” she managed. “I can’t talk right now, though. I… I just can’t.”
They had ignored Cataldi’s requests for an interview because he did this sort of thing, but Marinette had never expected this. She felt sick, wondering if Nadja had been involved at all. She doubted it, but...
“I understand, girl. I’m gonna do a livestream. Set the record straight. That asshole.”
The call ended. Marinette let Kagami take her phone and tuck it in her purse, likely handing it off to Tikki.
She let Kagami gather her close, pressing her face into her shoulder. Her friends stayed silent the rest of the drive, letting her work to clear her mind, to push through.
By the time she really was able to focus on the world, she and Kagami were ensconced in a plush room at the Grand Paris, and a cup of tea was being pressed in her hands.
“Oh, you’re back.” Chloé’s voice was oddly gentle, the arrogant tone missing. “It’s chamomile. Helps me when I’m stressed.”
It was strange, seeing Chloé almost as though for the first time. The fallout from Miracle Queen back in collège had left her friendless, Sabrina eschewing her, and she’d left to finish her studies through online courses, then attended a different lycée. Marinette hadn’t seen much of her since.
She’d toned down, it seemed. Maybe even gained a little humility. She was wearing much more muted tones of makeup that fit her skin tone and hair. The smirk that had often twisted her features was absent. Even her hair was styled differently, in a loose bun.
“Hi,” Marinette murmured. “Th-thank you.”
Chloé nodded, looking a bit uncomfortable as she backed away. Their previous relationship had been oppositional. This was different for both of them.
Kagami was pressed against her side, offering comfort in her presence. Marinette noted she had her own cup of chamomile, shaking slightly in her hands. She leaned her head against her fiancée’s shoulder.
“I’m okay, mon beignet,” she whispered, and was relieved when Kagami laughed at the endearment and her hand stopped shaking. “We’re in this together. We can do anything.”
A giggle caught her attention, and she was surprised to find it had come from Chloé. Her laugh had always had a haughty quality. It was absent now.
“Those rags are ridiculous, falling for those rumors. You two… just ridiculous how in love you are. Bakery endearments. Geez.”
It was almost strange to hear her say ridiculous as she always had, compared to the rest of her tone.
“It’s like they think collège wasn’t forever ago for us.” Chloé offered a soft smile. “Sorry, I know this is weird.”
Marinette nodded. “You’re… different.”
Chloé shrugged. “I was a complete bitch. But… Well, we’re not in collège anymore. And I didn’t want to be that person who peaked there as nothing but a mean girl.”
A look passed over her face, almost anguished, and she turned away slightly.
“I didn’t want to keep being the stupid entitled brat who willingly worked with a supervillain as part of a fucking temper tantrum.”
The silence that followed was uncomfortable. Chloé offered no attempt at justification, no request for forgiveness.
“I’m glad,” Marinette finally said, at least offering that much, if not absolution. “And I hope you’re happier.”
When Chloé turned back, there were tears on her face. “You know, when you said you thought I could be a hero… I was so awful to you, but still you…” She took a breath. “I just want to let you know it really meant a lot. It was important. So thank you.”
Marinette didn’t know what to say, and just offered a smile.
Chloé fidgeted a bit for a moment. “Um, anyway. This is Jagged and Penny’s suite. They’re getting here later tonight. Already told them what’s going on. Wayhem and Adrien are staying, too, in another suite—you’ll be sharing that one once it’s ready.” She flashed an awkward smile. “I’ll get you guys pajamas and such. We’ll figure this out.”
Then Chloé fled.
Marinette let her; no matter how much she had changed, she knew this was more than a little uncomfortable for both of them—more so for Chloé’s developed conscience.
And Chloé had given her something new to consider, something positive. Something else Marinette could cleave to as she worked through the shock of the awful things she was going to be reading about herself, and that she would have to refute.
She brought the fine china teacup to her lips, the delicate scent of chamomile wafting through her even before she took a sip. The warmth of the tea, of Kagami’s presence, the remnants of their date tattered but still existent, the knowledge that this couldn’t touch the world they had created… all came together to help calm her.
------------
Notes:
I’m big on verisimilitude, and I know if I read a fic that had the kind of restaurant described at the beginning, I’d want to know the fusion aspects. So I did a bunch of research on foods from each culture. All the foods do exist, but I’ve actually melded them in ways that I don’t believe do. With the exception of Thai curry chicken bao, which you can get at Wow Bao. Man do I wish a lot of them did, though!
I didn’t expect the chapter to go the way it did, in some respects. I actually thought I’d get further, to the New Year Tsurugi family event. But there was a lot happening in this chapter and I realized my initial estimation was way off.
I also wasn’t sure if there was going to be Chloé redemption, but then it just… happened.
Oh, and happy Adrien/Wayhem. In Catch a Falling Star-verse after “Never Let It Fade Away,” Adrien will have done some soul-searching and come to the realization he’s bisexual and was just so hung up on Ladybug he didn’t realize it (much like Mari being bi but hung up on Adrien). So when Alya jokingly calls them “the gays,” it’s more a general statement than bi erasure. Wayhem is totes gay though. Also, it’s casually brought in because they’ve been together a bit and is thus a normal thing to all the characters.
Enjoy the Alec Cataldi and Lila salt.

Twin Star-Commencement Chapter 1 Father’s Folly
The carriage rolled at a brisk pace down the forest road. At sporadic intervals, the coach hit bumps in the old dirt roadway, jostling the riders within. “It’s getting dark, Father. How much farther to the outpost?” The young woman of nineteen had tried to keep the fear from her voice, but it crept in, like the night around them.
“We will be there soon; we’re within a mile of the compound. Don’t worry, Rose, The Guard patrols these roads. We will be safe.” William stretched out his tall muscular frame and ran his hand through his silvering golden-blonde hair. He tried to comfort her with his confident façade, letting his aging features relax with exaggerated boredom, but his reassuring words and actions did nothing to calm her fears.
“Angela, can you hand me that blanket?” Elizabeth asked the young woman next to her. Angela was three years older than Elizabeth, but the resemblance was astonishing. Her eyes were the only feature that was a contrast to Elizabeth; Angela’s were a vivid green like their father, while Elizabeth’s were a bright, cool blue. Angela handed the blanket to her with a strained smile.
Elizabeth wrapped it around the dozing child sitting next to her. Brianna was a carbon copy of Elizabeth, long, dark honey-colored hair, soft ivory skin, coral-colored lips, wrapped in the frame of a nine-year-old. She leaned against the carriage wall sleepily, waking with each bump, and then falling quickly back into the rhythmic breathing of a child’s carefree slumber.
“Father, we should’ve stopped at that last village for the night.” Michael leaned his well-toned frame forward, trying unsuccessfully to scan the trees for danger. “It would’ve been safer for the girls.”
Michael was barely a minute older than Elizabeth, and his reference to their safety made her smile despite herself. He was hardly a carbon copy of his twin. He looked like their father, instead of their mother, and he was tall, his hair gleaming a golden-blonde against his bronze skin, his eyes the same vivid green as their older sister and father.
William winced at the reminder of their earlier argument. It was not often that his son openly disputed his decisions, but this time had been the worst. It seemed silly to William for his son to overreact to his insistence on continuing to the outpost. “You kids worry too much. Rose can fight as well as either of us. After ten years, I’m still getting an earful from your Aunt Lucinda for that fact.” He smiled proudly at his middle daughter, but Elizabeth did not share his mirth. Many things stalked in the dark, and a woman with a sword—or a man for that matter—would not so easily intimidate some of them.
“I’m not letting a thrown shoe delay us any more than it has already,” the older man continued, bothered by their lack of confidence in his decision. “Your aunt will be livid with us having to stop at the outpost. If we leave there at dawn, we will be in Exeter before lunch, and I will be able to take leave within the hour with the excuse of making it home before sunset.”
He smiled at the cleverness of his detour, knowing that if he had to stay longer than necessary with that woman, he would go insane. It would be maddening having to listen to her constant bickering about them arriving late, for the hour required to keep up the pretenses of politeness.
“And maybe one of your sisters will find a nice soldier to bring home with them. That would certainly deflate your aunt’s conniving mannerism!” Their father’s teasing remark brought about a chorus of protesting from the older girls and gleeful laughter from Michael.
The bloodcurdling screams of Gregory, the coachman, and Jeffrey, the footman, broke through the night, silencing the entire coach, and sending Brianna scampering into Elizabeth’s lap, blanket forgotten on the floor. Michael was immediately on his feet, drawing his sword carefully in the enclosed space.
As soon as the rapier cleared the scabbard, a delicate white arm—fringed at the forearm in cream-colored lace—reached through the window at the back of the carriage, grabbed the young man by the back of his hair, and snatched him back through the small portal. Michael’s sword thudded to the floor and brought forth screaming from the young girls and cursing from their father. The older man threw open the coach door and jumped from the moving carriage to face the hidden foe attacking his children.
An unseen predator ripped the opposite coach door from the hinges, and a bone-white face appeared with eyes as red as embers. He grinned evilly, as his ghostly hand shot forward, making a grab for Brianna. Elizabeth shrank back from the now visible vampire, shielding her little sister.
With wild panic, Angela threw herself over her two younger sisters to protect them. The older girl’s eyes never left the unnatural orbs staring mockingly at her heroic foolishness. He did not hesitate, as he wrapped his hand around her throat, and snatched her from the slowing carriage.
Elizabeth pulled Brianna up with one hand and grabbed the abandoned sword from the floor of the coach with the other. She waited for a chance to exit the vehicle, fighting a wave of nausea and dizziness at the sudden disappearance of the connection she shared with her twin. She swallowed the lump in her throat, squinted the tears from her eyes, and pushed all thoughts from her mind. She knew if she fell apart now, she and Brianna would die. As the coach crept to a stop, Elizabeth exited with her younger sister fast on her heels. The young girl tugged at her older sister’s skirts as if knowing that breaking this physical connection would suck her into a void of darkness and death.
Across the clearing, a female vampire watched the two remaining girls exit the carriage with a malevolent smile, having just finished draining Michael of his lifeblood. The redhead's pealing laughter echoed off the surrounding trees. She sidled her lean, athletic body forward slowly—giving her fiery spirals a playful bounce with each step—thinking to intimidate the young woman. Her feral, demonic smile vanished, as she realized that it had no effect on her prey. The red-head tilted her head and watched the woman with curious confusion.
Elizabeth slid Brianna against the side of the coach and placed herself in front of her youngest sister. She pressed her back against Brianna and whispered, “Close your eyes, and don’t open them, no matter what.” She turned her attention back to the approaching female.
Elizabeth steeled herself and dropped into a defensive crouch. It was obvious to the red-haired vampire that the young woman was no novice with the sword. She studied the human girl for a moment, but past exploits left her overconfident. She had felled many men three times this girl’s size without a single scratch. She pounced forward with hardly a second thought.
Elizabeth reacted instinctively. She threw her brother’s sword up at the last moment, impaling the female through the chest. She, then, used her foot to push the shocked woman from her blade, and with a quick, clean strike of the rapier’s sharpened edges, she beheaded the vampire. She silently gave thanks that her brother had insisted so vehemently that the blacksmith modify the blade to be a slashing weapon, as well as, a piercing weapon.
Elizabeth, so engrossed with the attacking creature, did not see the second woman crouched to spring less than ten yards away. The blonde female leapt forward, letting a ferocious growl slip through her parted, bloody lips. Had Elizabeth not heard the snarl, she would have been caught unaware. Elizabeth threw the sword up and across her own body using her left hand to stabilize the long blade, protecting her vulnerable neck. She cringed, as the female’s gleaming teeth hit the flat of the blade and the razor edge of the sword bit into her bare palm. Elizabeth pushed forward, with all the strength she had, trying to put a little distance between herself and the second female’s deadly maw.
The blade hitting the vampire in the mouth so unexpectedly, knocked the small blonde woman off balance, otherwise, Elizabeth’s attempt to push her away would never have worked. The vampire stumbled back holding her busted mouth. Elizabeth never hesitated. She swung the sword across with the pure desperation born of survival instinct. The rapier took off the young blonde’s head and the hand that she had been holding to her busted mouth.
* * * * *
Marin tossed the near-lifeless body of the young woman aside. He wanted to take the time to savor the kill but knew that the patrols would arrive too soon. That was the risk of attacking so close to the outpost. He still had not found the scent that had drawn him here. It was as strong as ever on the light evening breeze, nearly intoxicating. He had thought that it was the now dead woman at his feet, but the scent had faded, once he pulled her from the carriage. The frustration boiled in him at the disappointment, and the knowledge that such a succulent bouquet would be wasted on one of the others.
A blood-curdling shriek followed by an angry, feral growl wrenched him from his frustrated thoughts. He whirled around in a blur, in time to see the head of Veronica rolling across the clearing and Sybil spring in for the kill. Somehow the woman spun around in time to fend off Sybil’s ferocious attack. He had never seen a human move so fast. His curiosity peeked, Marin moved toward them, just as the breeze wafted the intoxicating scent he had been searching for into his nostrils. It was far more powerful now, as the fresh blood flowed freely from the wound in the woman’s palm.
Marin watched Sybil stumble backward—thrown off balance from the blow to the mouth and the push from the young woman. He saw the blade turn for the killing strike, and he exploded into action. He could only hope that he would cover the distance in time to save Sybil.
He was too late…
* * * * *
At that moment, an unseen force hit Elizabeth from the side. She felt her left arm shatter from the force of the blow, and the wind deserted her lungs. The young woman let her body roll, as it hit the ground, to absorb much of the impact. She sprang to her feet, sword ready to defend, expecting her opponent to continue attacking to keep her off balance. She gasped, forcing air into her stunned lungs, and cringed—jaw set at the debilitating pain in her injured arm and damaged ribs.
Elizabeth froze, as an ear-piercing scream erupted from behind the tall, dark-haired male vampire that was now standing in front of her. He smiled wickedly, watching with gratification, as Elizabeth reacted to her little sister’s sobs ending abruptly. In that instant, a wave of grief overcame Elizabeth, and she almost dropped her brother’s sword.
As her heart shattered, the rage engulfed her. Her hand tightened on the hilt of her brother’s blade. She charged the vampire, swinging with wild fury, not caring anymore about anything but killing the monster.
The vampire’s barrage came in a blur of movement that Elizabeth barely registered through the red haze of her fury. In one swift movement, the alabaster monster kicked her right leg, launching her into the side of the coach. The rage dulled the pain of her broken limbs. He was on her in seconds, pinning her to the side of the carriage and going for her vulnerable neck. Elizabeth’s sword arm came down with the full force of her rage for the killing blow, but he was ready. The vampire grabbed her arm and pinned it to the side of the carriage. Elizabeth fought his hold with all the strength the fury had lent to her.
She was not strong enough! Elizabeth watched in abject horror, as the vampire leaned in, and his mouth closed on her bare neck.
She gasped, as the pain stole her bloodlust and all ability to scream. Her vision began to clear, no longer tinged with red, before beginning to blur once again, darkness creeping in. She could feel her hand loosen its hold on the hilt of the sword, and she fought to keep her fingers clenched around it. Then, the pain in her body began to ease, and her vision to blacken.
She could hear a female voice somewhere close speaking a language she could not place. At the edges of her consciousness, she could just make out a distant rumbling. She heard the male answer the woman in what sounded like a rebuff. The female pleaded insistently, as the rumbling became louder and more distinct.
Then, Elizabeth was falling, unable to make her limbs work. Her limp body dropped into the damp grass, her head hitting a rock, as it raced unbidden to the ground. The sword bounced from her uncooperative hand, skittering across the damp grass. She reached for the blade and tried to fight off the darkness—to force her eyes to open, but she was too weak from the blood loss. She fell into the void, screaming silently.
* * * * *
Marin saw the rage engulf the young woman just in time to react before Elizabeth could launch fully into the fury that clouded her vision. He kicked her right leg with such force, that it slammed her into the carriage and bent her leg at a sickly, odd angle. He was on her before her feet could firmly touch the ground. He pinned her by her hair to the side of the coach. The young woman swung her sword in a desperate attempt to stave off his attack, but Marin caught her arm and slammed it back against the carriage wall, exposing her soft, ivory neck. She struggled, ripping clumps of hair out by the roots, and almost tearing her head free of his iron grasp, as she screamed with fury.
Marin salivated—the woman’s scent calling to him—as he leaned in and pressed his mouth to her soft, sweet neck. His fangs pierced her flesh. The sweet nectar of her blood rushed into him, and he forgot the world around him. Never, in his hundreds of years on this earth, had a human tasted so delectable. He never wanted it to end, but he knew that it would be over far too soon.
Drawn in by the experience, Marin almost did not feel the grip on his arm. As his senses began to return, Emmaline’s desperate voice finally reached his ears. “Please, love! We must go. The Guard is here.”
Marin withdrew from his prize and reacted instinctively. He snatched his arm from Emmaline’s grasp and yelled, “She is mine, and I will have all of her.” He raised his arm to strike his mate across the face. Without the blood flowing into him, the effects began to wane, and he regained some of his senses—enough to stop himself. He looked at Emmaline with horrified shame, then back at the human woman.
He heard and felt the hoof beats of The Guard, as they rushed toward the scene. Emmaline pleaded again for him to leave, and this time he followed. He let his prize—barely alive—fall limply to the ground, as he ran full speed into the forest.

In this final installment of my ranking of the Friday The 13th franchise, we take a look at what I consider to be the top movies in the series.
Two of the films on the list below do hold a level of nostalgia as they are the only movies I was able to see in theatres. The films that are in the top two don't stray far from common opinions.
Watching all 12 films in the franchise has given me a new appreciation for Friday The 13th and certainly solidified for me Jason's standing as a horror icon.
4. FREDDY VS. JASON
RELEASED: AUGUST 15, 2003
DIRECTOR: RONNY YU
APPROXIMATELY 22 KILLS
The long-awaited battle between Freddy Krueger and Jason Voorhees spent a decade in development hell before finally being released in 2003.
Freddy vs. Jason was one of the most anticipated films in horror history. It had a fantastic marketing campaign that led to the film becoming the highest-grossing film in both the Friday The 13th and A Nightmare on Elm Street franchises.
Admittedly, Freddy vs. Jason is a personal preference of mine since it was the first Friday The 13th/A Nightmare on Elm Street film I was able to see in theaters.
The movie premiere that I attended was filled with horror fanatics dawning all of their favorite Jason and Freddy memorabilia and clothes, leading to a fun movie-going experience where the audience loudly celebrated certain parts of the film.
The plot of the movie finds the people of Springwood, Ohio, unfamiliar with Freddy Krueger due to a pill that suppresses people’s dreams. Krueger manipulates Jason to kill people in Springwood to spread fear back in the community to regain his powers.
Jason, who is played by Ken Kerzinger, does the majority of the killing in the film. One of the kills at the beginning of the movie to a character named Trent sticks out as Jason folds him in half using a mattress.
Krueger isn’t the over-the-top, almost cartoonish character he portrayed in the latter A Nightmare on Elm Street films, specifically in the fifth and sixth entries in the franchise.
Robert Englund plays Krueger, similar to the franchise’s third installment Dream Warriors, a blend of comedic one-liners infused in terrifying nightmare scenarios.
The weakest portions of the film come when the movie focuses on its protagonist characters. Some of these characters are the worst in the franchise, such as Kelly Rowland’s Kia and Jason Ritter’s Will. There is even one character that is a blatant rip off of Jay from the Jay and Silent Bob movies.
There are some plot developments that make little sense, such as Jason being afraid of water as throughout the series Jason is shown going in and out of bodies of water.
The film’s ranking rests primarily with its third act, where Jason and Freddy battle at Crystal Lake. The action scene’s between the two delivers in big fashion, with both characters having their moments.
Surprisingly, there has not been a sequel with the amount of money the movie made. Despite the film's lower-tier characters, Freddy vs. Jason is a fun time for fans of both franchises and delivered in its most crucial act.
3. FRIDAY THE 13TH (2009)
RELEASED: FEBRUARY 13, 2009
DIRECTOR: MARCUS NISPEL
APPROXIMATELY 14 KILLS
The 2009 reboot of Friday The 13th may be the most divisive film in the franchise. Like Freddy vs. Jason, the film suffers from a subpar cast and, for many, one of the worst characters in horror movie history in Trent, played by Travis Van Winkle.
The film followed a reboot renaissance from studio Platinum Dunes that included The Texas Chainsaw Massacre that brought a more modern touch to the horror classics.
The film's best asset falls on its portrayal of Jason, played by Derek Mears. Jason is a hybrid of the zombie Jason that was introduced in Friday The 13th VI: Jason Lives and a survivalist that sets traps and can kill in a variety of ways.
Arguably, Jason is at his most frightening in the 2009 reboot.
The highlight of the film is in the first 25 minutes as it shows a group of friends camping as they look for a field of marijuana. Jason takes out each one brutally, including a sleeping bag kill leaving a victim hung in the bag over a fire for a brutal slow death.
Also, the fan-favorite bag head version of Jason makes an appearance in the film before finding his infamous hockey mask.
The plot of the film is somewhat by the numbers as Jason kidnaps one of the campers from the beginning of the movie, who resembles his mother. The girl’s brother comes looking for his sister and runs into a group of friends staying at a friends’ family cabin.
They run into Jason, and the killing commences.
While for many the characters in Friday The 13th (2009) may make the film hard to digest, Jason and the kills in the movie make it the most accessible Friday The 13th film. This film is the Friday The 13th that you would show to someone who has never seen any of the movies and is unfamiliar with the franchise.
2. FRIDAY THE 13TH IV: THE FINAL CHAPTER
RELEASED: APRIL 13, 1984
DIRECTOR: JOSEPH ZITO
APPROXIMATELY 13 KILLS
The fourth installment in the Friday The 13th franchise is an amalgamation of the previous three films that combines a majority of their best elements.
The Final Chapter is the quintessential Friday The 13th movie.
With the return of Tom Savini as a special makeup effects artist, the kills throughout the film are stellar.
Similar to the Friday The 13th Part 3, The Final Chapter begins immediately after the previous film's events.
Jason is taken to a hospital where he is presumed to be dead. He then awakens and brutally kills his way out of the hospital to head back to his stomping grounds at Crystal Lake.
The Final Chapter follows two groups of people.
The first is a group of friends staying at a friend’s home for the weekend. The second group that is being followed is the Jarvis family, who live next door.
There is also a slight storyline that follows the character Rob played by Erich Anderson, who is seeking revenge for his sister, who died in Friday The 13th Part 2.
The movie is best known for introducing Tommy Jarvis to the franchise who is played by Corey Feldman. Jarvis is a unique character that could be based on Tom Savini, as he is shown to have made horror movie quality masks.
In the age of social media, the standout star in the movie is Crispin Glover, who plays Jimmy. Glover has a scene in the film that would make Elaine from Seinfeld cringe as he shows off his dance moves in one of the most memorable and mocked scenes in the entire franchise.
Ted White, who chose not to be credited, portrays one of the best Jason’s in the franchise. One of the best kills in the film includes a twin character that is thrown out a window in dramatic fashion.
The movie’s final act features Trish Jarvis, played by Kimberly Beck, who runs the final girl circuit of discovering dead bodies one after the other. Trish does put up a fight against Jason, but it is ultimately Tommy Jarvis who puts Jason down for good.
Tommy shaves a majority of his head bald to resemble what Jason looked like as a kid, which puts the killer on hold, allowing for him to be whacked in the head by Trish with a machete.
Tommy follows up with a hit of his own with a machete that kills Jason dramatically.
Jason’s death is arguably the best kill in the film, with his head slowly going down the machete after getting hit.
The Final Chapter, for many, is the best Friday The 13th film. It features a serviceable yet memorable cast, fantastic kills, and one of the most satisfying endings in the franchise.
This film could have easily been at the top of my list, and over the years, it could end up at the number one spot.
1. FRIDAY THE 13TH PART VI: JASON LIVES
RELEASED: AUGUST 1, 1986
DIRECTOR: TOM McLOUGHLIN
APPROXIMATELY 18 KILLS
Written and Directed by Tom McLoughlin, Friday The 13th: Jason Lives is one of the most unique and fun horror movies of the 1980s. The film brings forth the zombie version of Jason that is most well known in pop culture.
The film brings back Tommy Jarvis, who wants to make sure that Jason is dead. He heads to the deceased killer’s grave and digs up the body only to impale it with a metal rod. The metal rod is struck by lightning, and Jason is reborn.
The movie brilliantly inputs Meta elements throughout the film blending a mix of comedy and action that make it stand out to this day.
Jason Lives is the only Friday The 13th film with no nudity and even shows kids at the camp setting. Don’t worry; Jason does not kill any children in the movie.
The kills throughout the movie are well made despite the MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America) editing them down to reduce the gore amount. Even the kills that are done off-screen are well made as the film does a brilliant job of showing the aftermath of the kill.
The chemistry between the Sheriff’s daughter Megan played by Jennifer Cook and Tommy Jarvis, allows the audience to care more about the antagonists instead of viewing them as mere fodder for Jason.
The Friday The 13th franchise is a series that doesn’t have an absolute classic film that transcends the horror genre such as 1978’s Halloween or 1984’s A Nightmare on Elm Street.
Jason Lives and even The Final Chapter are the closest the series comes to having a transcendent horror film. At the very least, these films are about as good as any of the sequels in the Halloween and A Nightmare on Elm Street franchises.
Jason Lives is the film that I think of when I think of Friday The 13th. Undoubtedly, it is the movie in the franchise that has the most replay value and the film that I would choose to show to anyone who hasn’t seen Friday The 13th.

Arbitrary: Chapter 2 Titanic AU
Definition: determined by impulse rather than reason.
Word Count: 1662
Genre: Angst/Fluff (no angst yet)
Pairing: BTS Jimin x Reader
Description: Park Jimin is a wealthy CEO from London who is on Titanic because he is going to meet his arranged fiancee in New York. (Y/N) is an aspiring ballerina from Boston. She traveled to Paris with her brother Jin for an audition, but failed to get the part, and happened to win her tickets in a hustle. Both (Y/N) and Jimin are very impulsive and tend to make rash decisions, this worsens when they meet and get to know each other.
A/N: Holy shit I am so sorry to everyone who has waited for chapter two!!!!! I am an awful writer y’all. But here is finally is. Please enjoy everyone!!!!
Previous Chapters: 1
Day 1:
“Ohhhhhhhh! What was that?” Taehyung wiggles his eyebrows suggestively at his stunned brother as they watch her run off.
“Taehyung, shut up, she just accidentally bumped into me because she wasn’t paying attention.”
“But she was really pretty!”
“Was she? I didn’t get a good look at her face. Anyway, what does it matter? She obviously has a boyfriend, and I’m unfortunately engaged to a creep.”
Taehyung bursts into a fit of laughter, “And whose fault is that? I told you to wait and Yoongi Hyung and I would have found another company, but noooooo you just had to agree to marry Dawn Summers for her dad’s company.”
“It’s a good company and I can make it rise back to the top!”
“You and your damn challenges. You know how bad Yoongi wanted to choke you out after I told him we were merging with them? I’m usually uneasy in his presence, but after I told him that just the look on his face made me want to cry. Why do you have to do everything before thinking first?”
Jimin gasps bringing a dramatic hand to his heart in mock offence, “How dare you?! Are you even my brother? You know that may impulses are my best feature! Besides , if I never thought before I acted I wouldn’t have hired you, so you can kiss my ass.”
“You wouldn’t be nearly as rich without me and you know it.”
Jimin laughs, “you wouldn’t be rich at all.”
“Okay enough you two. You’ve been arguing here for over an hour. Let’s go to our suite before I jump overboard from how annoying your voices are.” Namjoon cut in stopping the two younger men from tackling each other not even a day into the journey.
“Well that was rude…..” Jimin grumbles
“How are you my boss? It really blows my mind.”
“I’m telling Yoongi Hyung you insulted me!”
“Oh God….”
“You’re in for it now Joonie Hyung.” Taehyung chuckles at his friend’s misfortune.
“Bite me Tae”
“Ooooooh, Kinky” Taehyung winks at the older.
“I swear to god Taehyung, one more word from you and I will throw you to the sharks.”
Jimin giggles as he watches the two. “Okay, okay. If you two are just about done with your lover’s quarrel I’d like to go to my cabin,” he extends his hand to Namjoon so he can look at the room number on the tickets.
“Excuse me?! LOVER”S QUARREL?!”
“Wow, where have your manners gone Joon? Speaking so rudely to your superior,” Taehyung giggles.
“I’m a year older than him!”
“I’m still your boss. I still sign your paycheck Namjoon, be careful.”
“Yikes, he’s threatening your bank account now.”
“Shut up and let’s find the damn room. Jesus.”
Upon their arrival to their cabin the three men pause at the door. Everything is just so elaborate and much more beautiful than anything they had ever seen.
Damn, they thought they lived in luxury before, but boy were they wrong. The amount of detail gone into one room was simply astonishing, the three men couldn’t wait to look around the rest of the elegant ship.
“Wow. Can you believe this? It’s so beautiful. I’m almost afraid to touch anything for fear of me breaking it.”
“Yeah, that’s probably a good idea. Don’t let Namjoon Hyung touch anything!”
“Taehyung, can I breathe for a single second without you disrespecting me?”
“Nah, it’s too much fun fucking with you man.”
“Why do I deal with you two”
“Because you love us?” Jimin looks up at him with his best puppy dog eyes.
“No, I really don’t think so, you both disgust me.”
“Hyung, you wound me.”
“Oh whatever, your ego is bigger than this entire fucking ship”
“You’re………that actually pretty accurate.”
“Speaking of your ego, do you really think going along with this deal is going to get you more money?” Namjoon becomes more serious much to the younger twos dismay.
“Well that’s the point of big business Hyung. You gotta take risks or you won’t get anywhere.”
“Yes, I know that. But Tallico Industries? Really Jimin? Your best bet, I’d say, would have been a smaller family owned company you could have bought out and re-built from the ground up. Not a company that was big before this century even started and are starting to go down the shitter. Tallico is full of nothing but money hungry bastards that are going to tear you limb from limb to get what they want. You marrying Dawn Summers is just the beginning. They will take everything you are worth and leave you stranded, bankrupt, and alone with two companies.”
“Well what am I supposed to do now?!”
“That’s exactly my point! You shouldn’t have made the idea in the first place you moron!”
“Listen……. I know my way in and out of business deals. Taehyung and I have done it before countless times.”
“Don’t you think by now they would know all of your tactics? They are going to figure out what you’re doing and try to counter you.”
Taehyung laughs at his older friend, “You know Hyung, for someone who’s been with us since the start, you really know nothing of what Jimin does in business deals.”
“What are you talking about?”
“Listen Namjoon, Everyone knows how Jimin rolls. Everyone knows how he makes deals. Everyone knows what kind of people he works with and who he declines. Everyone back in England was surprised by Jimin’s deal but he’s had a trick up his sleeve this entire time despite how he’s been acting. I figured it out when we were boarding the ship. I’m an idiot for not figuring it out sooner and being so worried.”
“Wait, you both actually thought I was going to marry the BEAST?!?!?!? Oh my GOD! No!!!!” Jimin for a minute laughing at the absurdity. “Damn, I’m a better actor than I thought if I psyched out my own twin brother! Dude what happened to twin telepathy? Where have you been?”
“Whatever Jimin, so what exactly do you have planned?” Namjoon asks now curious of the smaller friends deceitful plans.
“We’ll talk more at dinner. For now we should relax for a bit then freshen up and head to the dining hall”
“Jin! Wait a second! You don’t even know where you’re going you dork! I have the tickets!”
Jin laughs as he slows down waiting for Y/N to catch up the him. “Alright Miss Smarty pants, where are we going?’
“Well our ticket says it’s on the second floor room 215. So I guess we should look for an elevator.,”
Jin straightens his posture and gives a mock salute. “yes ma’am! The search for room 215 commences!”
“Jin……..Shut up.”
“Rude”
After 20 minutes and help from a staff crewman, Y/N and Jin finally arrive to their room. Even coming from a very wealthy family, Y/N and Jin had never seen anything so extravagant. The room may as well have been made with marble walls and floors with nothing but gold decoration, the awe on their faces was so great. Of course, that wasn’t, the case. But the rich mahogany wood with maroon and gold detailed walls brought stars to Seok Jin’s eyes.
“God I can’t believe we’re actually here! This is so amazing. I want to know what you did in your past life to get lucky enough to hustle those idiots at the pub.” jin begins to laugh but slowly quiets when his eye catches the sight of his sister sitting on one of the chairs with her head in her hands. “Oh no. Y/N what’s wrong?!” he runs to Y/N hugging her to his frame rubbing a hand up and down her back trying to calm her down.
“What did i do in my past life to make me fuck up that audition so bad? I don’t understand it. Practice went so well and i wasn’t nervous going in! I just choked last second.”
“Hey it’s okay. Everyone messes up sometimes. That wasn’t your only chance. You just have to continue to grow as a dancer and learn from your mistakes. You’ll have your shining moment. I now you will sis. Now. Let’s go to the deck. I want to watch the sun set.”
“1: you’re such a girl. 2: you will wait. I’m going to wash up and you will not complain because the sun doesn’t set for another hour and a half.”
“Okay Miss Bossy. But hurry up because i want to wash up too.”
“Just for that sarcastic comment, i’m going to take two hours.”
An hour later Y/N and JIn make their way to the deck. The sun is just beginning to set as they both step outside. They walk up to the side rail and lean against it as they look towards the sun setting over the curve of the sea in the distance. Y/N stares in awe as she watches the warm orange, red, pink, and purple hues of the sky seem to blend with the deep sapphire blue of the open sea.
“Jinnie, can you believe we’re actually here? Things are looking up!”
“Sorry to interrupt, but you are the couple staying in room 215 correct?”
Feeling uncomfortable with being called a couple with her brother Y/N shifts uncomfortably while Jin straightens his posture, but they know that they have to agree because the people they got the tickets from were a couple, “uum, yeah. We are staying in room 215. Is there something wrong with our room?”
“Oh, no sir, not at all. I am just here to inform you that dinner for first and second class will be held in the dining hall below the deck in about 30 minutes, it is advised you both head down shortly. You will be escorted to your table when you arrive.”
“Yes, of course thank you.”

The Cutoff - Chapter 1 (Mag7 modern anarchy AU)
A/N: All right, so after watching The Purge and Training Day back to back, I got super inspired to write some sort of gritty, anarchy-ish Mag7 fic, so here goes! Thanks as always to @coachboom for being my beta reader, sounding board, moral support, and amazing friend <3 Also, as I’ve seen other authors do, I’m going to use ‘Manuel’ as Vasquez’s first name.
December 31th, 2023 was the day America shut down.
Families across America turned their lights off to go to sleep and in the cover of darkness, the electricity stopped. Dogs circled restlessly, yipping their oblivious owners awake. Exasperated homeowners wondering why their power was out in the absence of a storm resorted to phones to check outage maps, but they had no coverage whether in cities or in the boondocks. What clocks still worked told their owners it was 4:00 AM on the east coast, 3:00 AM Central, and 1:00 AM in California, where the Cutoff, as it came to be known, abruptly ended countless parties and plunged the thriving clubs into silence.
Then commenced an era of anarchy that no one bothered to record and the history books would fail to tell.
It had been a fairly average day for Joshua Faraday, but so every day seemed to be.
He woke at 7:00 sharp, hit the ‘snooze’ button on his alarm clock four times, and blundered into the shower at 7:30, his left shoulder almost as painful as his head, which was feeling the effects of the previous evening; he’d spent it de-stressing from his job, which for him meant going to the gym (the main reason his old injury had flared up), and then getting mind-numbingly drunk on his couch. He’d known he’d regret it in the morning but the hangovers never stopped him from doing it again.
At the end of work, he could hardly remember anything that he’d achieved; it all seemed the same. Rifling through papers, adding up numbers, calling clients, it never got any better. It paid though, and pay was what he needed.
His coach had advised him not to play in that last bowl game, told him he’d shown everything he needed to before the draft and his team would probably win anyway. But he’d gone ahead and done it, torn a tendon in his shoulder, and said goodbye to his football star future after surgery the next morning.
Aiming high had gotten him nowhere, so he didn’t do it anymore.
That night after work, he ate dinner alone at McDonalds and then headed home. It seemed most of the people Faraday encountered at work (he didn’t count them as friends) smiled multiple times a day, but not him, at least not genuinely. His first real one came when he opened the door to his apartment to be almost knocked back into the hall by the enthusiasm of his two dogs who immediately leaped up at him, trying to lick his face. He laughed, dropping his briefcase, and sat down on the ground. Both dogs clamored for the prime position- his lap- but unsurprisingly the younger one, the pit bull, won, while the elder, the boxer, had to settle for lying down next to Faraday with her chin on his knee and her soulful eyes looking up at him pleadingly. “Next time, Ethel,” he said, scratching her head. “Hey, hey, calm down, Maria,” he added, laughing as the dog in his lap kept enthusiastically licking his chin, the highest part she could reach without standing up. “You two want some dinner?”
He went to bed early that night, Ethel and Maria curled up at both lower corners of his bed. He was tired, and sleep came easily, well before midnight.
It had been just as long a day for Sam Chisolm and he too spent most of it sitting in one place, but that place was the front seat of a beater parked just around the corner of Market and Sixth, his new partner, a younger man who’d introduced himself that morning as Agent Parker, in the passenger’s seat. Sam stretched, sticking out his legs as far as he could it in the limited space before relaxing again. He was a patient man, and this was nothing out of the ordinary; he could have sat in that car all night too if it was necessary. He changed the radio station, not acknowledging how Parker had begun to fan himself with a Chinese restaurant menu that had been in the glovebox. The air conditioning unit in the car had broken and the police station, unfortunately, had not gotten it fixed yet.
“Here we go,” Sam said, his hand dropping from the dial to the gun holstered at his hip, his eyes following the slight figure who had just emerged from a side street. “Let’s go, Parker.”
It was a good collar, a solid, easier-than-expected arrest; the man only made it two blocks before Sam caught up, and the worst part of the event was listening to him whine and make threats in the backseat of the car all the way back to the station.
Sam got home after a steak dinner with several of his fellow detectives and a few beat cops who had assisted in working the case with him. He poured himself a small glass of whiskey and put the non-department backup issue pistol he always carried in an ankle holster back in his gun safe. Glass in hand, he settled down at his dining room table to finish the paperwork for the arrest. He was three pages in when when power went out.
Sam paused and then set down his pen, rising and walking to the window, grabbing the flashlight from the cupboard on his way. He pushed aside the curtains and looked out, thoroughly surveying the dark landscape outside, and then checked his phone, not surprised to find his service was out. Some had said it was only a matter of time until this happened. He supposed they had been right.
He turned on his flashlight and unlocked his gun safe again, strapping on the ankle holster that held his Ruger revolver again, and then the holsters on his belt that held twin .45 caliber Glocks. The shotgun went across his back, and a large stock of ammunition in the pockets of his coat. It was only a matter of time before the looting began, he knew. He was off-duty, but the chaos that was sure to ensue meant that not enough were on.
He grabbed the hefty bowie knife that lay on top of the safe, clipping the sheath onto his belt behind the holster on his left hip, closed and locked the door, and then left the apartment, his lonely footsteps reverberating in the deserted staircase.
It was a typical day for Manuel Vasquez in that he almost got fired and left work in a silent rage, letting it out on the punching bag in his living room. He didn’t have much patience for people who couldn’t make their minds up, so why he ended up taking a job as a car salesman, he didn’t know. But it was thanks to the job that he could keep making the payments for his apartment, so even though late at night sometimes, it seemed like a perfectly rational idea to leave the country and travel the world on his own terms, the mornings never seemed so welcoming to such dreams, which was really all they were, and he kept going to the dealership every weekday to quietly stew as he forced a smile at each new pair of upper middle class customers who all seemed so much the same.
He was sitting on his couch late that night, reading a book, when the the lights suddenly went out, darkness overtaking the apartment and extinguishing the quiet sound of the radio in the kitchen. Vasquez cursed under his breath and set aside his book, rising to look out the window to see how far the outage spread. “Holy…” he trailed off, opening the window and sticking his head out to get a better look. Darkness spread in every direction, the dim outlines of building only visible in shadowy lines and darker stripes of alleys and streets between them.
Something big was happening- that much he was sure of- even if he didn’t know what yet. He lived in far too affluent an area for there to be no emergency generators lighting up parts of the block and when he checked his phone to text a friend who lived on the other side of town to ask if her power was out too, he had no service to text her with.
He had been right. This was big.
Inez, the friend Vasquez had had wanted to text, was out with Gwen, her friend and coworker, eating dinner at a fast-food restaurant when the Cutoff happened. One moment they were talking and laughing, comfortable in the brightly-lit restaurant, and the next they were quietly exclaiming in surprise at the sudden darkness.
“Man, I hope my place isn’t out…” Gwen said. “I got stuff in the fridge I don’t want to go bad.”
“Nice priorities,” Inez teased and Gwen laughed.
“What can I say?”
Inez took the last bite of her burger and then said, “Guess we might as well get going then, you think?”
“Yeah, let’s,” Gwen said, grabbing her purse and standing. The other people who’d been eating in the restaurant were mostly on their way out already and Gwen looked down as she pulled out her phone, following Inez closely, her eyes occasionally glancing up to make sure she wasn’t going to run into anything. She unlocked her phone, clicking on the Uber app to get a ride home as they stepped outside, but the app wouldn’t load; instead a message came up telling her she had no service.
“Uh, Inez? This is really weird, I…” She looked up at her friend, who was just looking around, her brow furrowed.
“Yeah, this is,” Inez said. Something had seemed off when she stepped outside but now she realized what it was- as far as she could see, the city was dark. “Really weird.”
“Can you get a signal?” Gwen asked. “I was gonna call a cab, but I can’t.”
Inez attempted it, to no avail. “Nope. I guess we’ll walk?”
“Yeah…” Gwen agreed, though walking, which would probably take over a half hour, at that time of night in utter darkness made her a bit nervous.
“We’ll be fine,” Inez said reassuringly. “Let’s go.”
