Robert 'Bob' Reynolds x Fem!Witch!Reader
Idk bro id kiss him on the mouth fr, even if he has thin lips he can still get a kith!!
It was supposed to be a joke, something light hearted! Today was already stressful enough, you hadn’t meant to make things awkward or tense!
Typically the New Avengers base wasn’t that bad, sure everyone had their quirks, and you honestly couldn’t stand John Walker, but over the past year or so, things had been going relatively well.
Everyone had found a sense of purpose, something that most of the anti-heroes lacked prior to deciding to become the ‘Thunderbolts’. Of course there were still bad days at the tower, everyone had bad days, especially a ragtag group of ex-criminals that had initially been sent on a mission to kill one another.
But, the more missions everyone went on, the stronger their bonds became.
That wasn’t enough to distract from the elephant in the room, being the fact that Valentina’s introduction of you all as the New Avengers spiked a multitude of controversy and bad press. Yes, you’d done good things together, but you weren’t exactly good people, not going into this at least.
Then there was the ongoing lawsuit between the ‘New Avengers’ and the team of Avengers that Sam Wilson had been creating. Those were the people that were deemed as real heroes, they were loved and adored, meanwhile you all were questionable at best.
The newest Space threat had been stressing Yelena out for a few months now, and considering most of the people in the room were juiced up super soldiers, science experiments gone wrong, and former assassins, it wasn’t exactly easy to get the U.S. Air Force and NASA to agree to provide you all with adequate ships that would transport you into space.
So all everyone could do was continue to monitor the situation.
You didn’t necessarily agree with being forced into the New Avengers, not when the only reason that you’d been there for the entire Void fiasco was because Sam had sent you to Washington D.C. to help with Bucky’s political agendas. More specifically his lackluster ability to speak on camera and in interviews.
“He’s a dumb, litigious man” you scoffed at Alexei, throwing the water bottle in hand at him, the bottle hitting him right in the abdomen earning a loud groan as the older man winced while grabbing the right side of his body. “Seriously? Why are you attacking me! I am right, Sam Wilson does not know anything”
You rolled your eyes from your seat beside Bob, now standing and walking over towards everyone while shaking your head.
“No, Sam Wilson is right, we were never supposed to be the Avengers, and I’m sorry but I don’t ever recall the Avengers working under the government. It makes sense that everyone ever is literally on his side, not ours”
Yelena sighed, now slumping over in her seat while looking down at the digital satellite report.
“If you were ugly and didn’t have super cool witchy magic, it would be so much easier to dislike you, you know?” you laughed at her, smiling as you took a seat on the large sectional beside her, glancing at the report, brows knit together in confusion.
“Your diagnostic scan is off, somethings interfering with the feed” Yelena looked from you to the tablet screen, then across the room at Bucky who looked miserable.
Everyone knew he wasn’t handling his ongoing fight with Sam well, and the fact that he was no longer a congressman as he didn’t get re-elected really damaged his ego.
You always told him he’d be fine, it’s not like he was turning into a full fledged brainwashed murderer anymore! A marital dispute wasn’t that bad. They weren’t even married, but the way they’d been bickering over the phone for the past six months, it sounded as if Sam and Bucky were in the middle of a heated divorce.
Then Alexei started on one of his rants about team, and unity, and the very eccentric jumpsuit he had on. He looked like a mediocre NASCAR driver, and the suit was way too colorful for you. Plus the velcro patched on ‘z’ at the end of Avenger was making it look even worse.
“I’ve got one for all of you!”
You shook your head, then glanced back towards Bob who was already looking in your direction, you smiled at him before focusing back on Alexei. It was easy to drown everyone out, you’d gotten used to their presence, most days it was like Walker and Ava weren’t even there.
Although, Ava liked to keep to herself, so that part made sense. But Walker? He was constantly flirting with you, especially after practically announcing to the team that he and his wife were splitting for a while, but he did get to visit his kid often. He was like a feral dog trying to chase whatever bitch in heat he could find.
Except you were not a bitch in heat, and you did not like that man whatsoever.
“If only we had the Sentry who could fly!” you sighed again but before you had the chance to give Alexei shit for talking about Bob, he’d already responded.
“Sorry guys, I can’t be the Sentry without, well y’know” you nodded at him, he’d spent countless nights telling you about it, his fear of becoming the Void again, his fear of hurting everyone, of hurting you.
Before Alexei could respond you waved a hand, now the man couldn’t speak, frustration evident in his expression while he shook his head, hands waving in the air as he glared at you.
“I did the dishes though” you laughed a bit, smiling while looking back at Bob, shooting him a quick wink. Then you waved your hand again, Alexei now being able to speak.
“Woman! I have told you to stop doing that to me!” he shook his head, hands on his hips like a disappointed father while you shrugged, exchanging a look with Yelena before the both of you laughed again.
Then John spoke up “What are we just gonna ride Bob into space?” you responded before fully thinking about it. It was just a joke afterall.
“I’m the only one riding Bob.”
The tablet Bucky was holding was now on the floor, having slipped and fallen face-first against the concrete floors, while Bucky looked utterly shocked and disturbed at the comment.
Yelena simply laughed, nodding her head while high-fiving you.
Alexei’s neck cranked back as he held a disgusted look “you are like daughter to me! Don’t speak like that in front of me! I do not need to know what you and Bob do!”
Ava’s eyes widened, looking from you to Bob, back and forth over and over again “Oh my god! Is that what you two are always doing?! Having sex?! I thought you two just like really liked to read and stuff oh my god!”
Then John scoffed, arms crossed in front of his chest, rolling his eyes at the comment. “Yeah right, we all know Bobby over there isn’t getting laid” your brows knit together at that, slowly turning to face John, who now held eye contact with you.
You were debating on smiting him, it wasn’t the first time either. Bucky had stopped you from fighting John Walker on several occasions, he was always a pompous asshole, sure he’d gotten a bit better, but it was like he never recovered from getting the shield and his military honors revoked.
Then Bob spoke up “Sounds like you’re just jealous man”
Your jaw practically hit the floor.
Yelena nodded her head a few times, a proud look on her face while she observed everyone’s reactions. “The Bob I met fourteen months ago would’ve never said that, I’m proud of you-” she then glanced back at you “-and you, keep doing your thing with him” then she winked.
Before you knew it you were on your feet, rushing over to him and practically dragging him away with you while the room was full of shouts and cheers. Yelena had even been clapping.
Once you were fully out of earshot you turned to face him, lightly slapping his chest, your face and neck were on fire, your skin felt flushed and you were a definitive mixture between embarrassed and turned on.
“Dude! What the hell!” he laughed, the same shy smile that you’d fallen in love with on his face while he shrugged.
“Baby he had it coming” you nodded at that, shaking your head again with another groan “we’re never living that down! Did you hear what Ava said! Geez, mister confident over here” he smiled again, nodding at you before shrugging.
“He’s just kind of an asshole, I had to defend you-or us I guess…wait is there an us?”
It wasn’t a secret that you’d both grown rather close, it initially began when everyone had settled into the tower, the team getting more and more missions, and because you believed in free will, anytime they’d try to make you join them, you would decline. This wasn’t something that you’d wanted, your job was supposed to be one of Bucky’s political advisors pertaining to public relations.
You’d moved past using any form of magic to fight evil, especially after what had happened to Peter, but the only people who remembered him were at peak stages of insanity, or from other universes. Then there was you, the both of you had practically grown up together at one point, but he Blipped and you didn’t.
But after nearly breaking the fabric of the universe to combat the idiotic spells that Stephen Strange had cast to prove a point, you swore off of sorcery. It had it’s helpful moments, small tasks here and there, but fighting crime or being a hero wasn’t something you wanted for yourself.
So you opted to stay at the tower on ‘Bob duty’, and at first it was awkward, a lot of silent exchanges, a few accidents pertaining to dropping things or jump-scaring one another, but then something changed one day.
He asked you to brush his hair, it was so soft and subtle, he said he’d tried, but he just couldn’t, that he was too tired, he’d even explained how difficult it was to leave his room. So you invited him into your space, had him sit between your legs, and you brushed his hair for longer than necessary, running your fingers along his scalp to offer some form of comfort.
Then you both started warming up to one another, you’d ask him for help with the dishes, he’d ask if you wanted to read with him, and the more time spent together, the more you’d both started opening up to one another. Hell, you’d even dragged him plant shopping with you several times under the guise that ‘Bucky said I can’t leave you alone’.
It wasn’t difficult to fall for Bob, he made it really, really easy.
Sure, he had his bad days, but so did you.
He was one of the few people to ask you about your childhood for genuine reasons, most just wanted to know where the whole ‘magic’ thing came from. He asked you about the good and bad times, it was comforting in a way that you hadn’t expected.
You’d both sit together for hours when the tower was relatively empty, some days all you would do was read, others you’d talk through the sunset, into the sunrise. He’d shared bits and pieces of his past with you, gradually giving you more and more details.
Bob had even told you why he hated when Walker called him Bobby, you weren’t there in the void with them at that point, they had to find you in your own shame room. It wasn’t exactly horrible for you though, by the time they’d found you, you were repeatedly punching your own father in the face.
Everything had felt so real that day, when Bucky dragged you away, you’d thrown him off of you at first.
It wasn’t until a few months ago though, that you’d both finally crossed the line between being just friends and something more. You’d been watching the sunset on the rooftop of the building, your head leaned against his shoulder while you both sat in a comfortable silence when he finally asked why you constantly rejected Walker.
At first all you said was ‘cause he’s an asshole’, but when you finally moved to make eye contact with him, he was already looking down at you, and when you caught him, he didn’t blush and look away like he usually did.
He did blush though, but then you’d made the first move, slowly leaning into his space more and more until your lips were on his.
That night pushed you two past just being friends, and since then, he’d been wrapped around your finger. But to be fair, you were wrapped around his as well.
Things had gotten heated relatively fast, a few nights of built up tension led to you falling into his sheets easily, of course the first few nights did involve a few shattered glasses, one broken plant pot, and a cracked window, but once he figured out how to fully control the overwhelming rush of emotions that went hand-in-hand with genuine intimacy, things got easier.
He blinked a few times, brows knit together while he stared at you, you weren’t fully focused on him, a distant look in your eye at his question. You were clearly zoned out, thinking about something and at this exact moment he wished he could read minds. He was starting to overthink things, maybe you two were just friends and he’d been thinking too far into it, people that were friends hooked up all the time.
But he wasn’t sure if they stayed together for hours after, holding one another while speaking in hushed voices about anything and everything.
“Uh it’s okay if we’re not y’know-a thing, uh” you shushed him, blinking a few times, then your smile was back on your face. You were quick to lean in and kiss him, it was a fast kiss, if anything, just a light peck.
But your smile was genuine and reassuring “Yes-there is an us”.
Then the door to your left slammed open, smacking the wall while Yelena and Ava fell to the floor.
Without thinking Bob had pulled you towards him so you were now standing a bit behind him, it was instinctive. Meanwhile Yelena and Ava rolled over, now on their backs while they caught their breath.
“You know, you two are so cute! I knew I was right about you guys! Ava didn’t believe me, can you believe that! Also why are the floors so hard here, that really hurt” you shook your head at Yelena, doing your best to fight the laughter bubbling in your chest as you grabbed Bob’s hand.
“Okay nosey rosies, we’re gonna be in my room! See you guys later!” with that you gently pulled him behind you, walking towards the elevators that led to your floor.
The elevator ride was relatively quiet, but it was a comfortable silence between the both of you, and once the elevator had stopped at your designated floor, without zero hesitation you grabbed his hand, dragging him behind you while heading in the direction of your room.
He didn’t protest, instead he walked right behind you, the same dopey smile on his face that he always had when you two were together.
Once you were both inside, you locked the door while he made himself comfortable on your bed, now laying flat against the plush mattress and pillows. Turning around made you laugh at the sight, he was surrounded by your several different pillows and blankets while he leaned his head forward a bit to look at you.
“You’re so pretty” your smile was bright as you approached the bed, easily slotting yourself beside him, pushing a few blankets to the ground in the process of getting comfortable. It wasn’t like the bed was small, but you’ve always been the kind of person to need twenty pillows.
Eventually you ended up on your stomach, one leg tangled between his, meanwhile you held your upper body up with one hand resting against your chin, the other tracing shapes into his chest. He was flat on his back, one hand resting against his abdomen, the other outstretched to make space for you beside him.
“Robert, do you wanna get married and run away?” his eyes shot open, he’d been enjoying your embrace, eyes shut while he relaxed, but the minute you finished your sentence his heart was practically pounding out of his chest.
“W-what?” you couldn’t hold in your laughter.
“Okay I’m sorry, bad time for random jokes, I just wanted to see if you were awake” he nodded his head, eyes still wide, facial expression emulating distress and shock.
“I’m definitely awake now, y-you can’t just say things like that to me” you raised a brow at that “why?” he sighed “because-you know why-what the hell baby?” The nickname made you smile again, now leaning closer to his face, a few inches away from him.
“I don’t think I know why, you think I’m like un-marry-able or somethin? I’d marry you, probably give it a year or so, but I would” the tone shift in your voice was evident as you spoke, starting off in a joking lighthearted manner, then flowing into a seriousness that you only reserved for specific occasions.
“But I think I’m okay with being your annoying girlfriend for now, besides, I love you” his fingers intertwined with yours, offering a gentle squeeze while his brows knit together, eyes studying your features as if he was looking for an ounce of doubt. He’d never heard you sound so sure of something.
“Y-you love me? You sure?” you looked taken aback by the question.
“Did you just ask me if I’m sure I love you?” he nodded at that. So instead of responding you took a second to sit up, then grasped his arm, pulling him forward slightly, using a tinge of magic to help. Now he was sitting up and you were resting on your knees staring at him.
“I mean I’m me, and you’re-well you’re you. I dunno, I just didn’t think you’d like let alone love someone like m-” you shushed him, jaw clenched slightly as you shook your head “don’t even say that. You’re perfect the way you are, and yeah you’ve been through some rough shit, but we all have. It doesn’t make you unloveable or undeserving Bobby”
There it was, the nickname that you’d only ever brought out in moments like these, private moments away from the world, when it was just you and him.
It was the only time that he loved the nickname, if anyone else called him it, it brought forward feelings of distress, anger, and shame, but with you, you said it so softly and lovingly. It was as if all of the bad had been washed away the second the word would slip past your lips.
He bit his bottom lip, glancing down at your hands, now noticing that you’d still been holding his hand, except now you held his larger hand in both of yours, thumbs carefully caressing his skin in back and forth motions. He took a few moments to look at you, the soft golden glow in the room highlighted against your skin, painting you like an angel.
He didn’t know what he did to deserve someone like you in his life, someone who cared so deeply and loved so passionately. Plus you were mean to anyone that was an asshole, so that was always a bonus.
“I love you. I don’t care if we’ve only known each other a year, I don’t give a shit if it makes me crazy, I don’t care- I love you” as you spoke, you straddled his lap, arms wrapping around his shoulders, resting your forehead against his.
“I love you too”
Then your lips were against his again and your hands were in his hair. You took the lead, your body was practically on auto pilot as your lips connected with his. The kiss wasn’t soft, but it was passionate, lips moving in sync, a bit of teeth clashing as you lightly tugged on his hair, then the kiss was filled with heavy breaths, tongue, and smiles.
Naturally your hips started slowly grinding against him, one of his hands on your waist, the other caressing your cheek, pulling you into him even further. The deeper the kiss got, the faster your hips moved against his prominent bulge.
When you pulled away for air you made sure to bite his bottom lip slightly, offering a sultry smile after, eyes moving from his now swollen lips to his hooded eyes, they were glazed over, a hint of gold shining through his pupils.
“I’m the only one riding you right?” he nodded his head, his dopey smile back on his face, then you leaned back into his space, except you were now trailing kisses along his jaw, your teeth lightly nipping at his ear before whispering “can I ride you today?”.
Then your lips were back on his throat, sucking and nipping marks into his skin, prior to his, you did your best not to leave any visible marks on him, but after certain comments today, you had a point to prove.
His breathy moans spurred you on, your hips still grinding against him, moving a bit faster while you focused on his throat, moving from one side to the other before lightly tugging on the collar of his sweater then slowly biting against his pulse point.
You looked at his throat like a piece of art, a satisfied smile on your face at the look of the pink and red marks covering his pale skin. Then your eyes found his and he stared at you with a sea of emotion, the slight golden flicker prominent while he bit his bottom lip, smiling.
“I think you’ve proved your point” you shrugged, laughing a bit “mmm, I dunno Bobby, I haven’t even gotten to take my ride” with that your hands moved to the bottom of his sweater, slowly sliding it up his torso until he’d pulled it off, tossing it aside somewhere, then you were pushing him back onto the bed again, lips back on his skin.
He let you do whatever you wanted to him, one hand behind his head, now watching your movements, his other hand grasping the comforter below.
You moved lower and lower, kissing along his defined abdomen, leaving a trail of wet bruising kisses against his warm skin, then you were staring at him from between his legs, eyes half-hooded, biting your bottom lip, while you dragged your fingers along his waistline, tracing the defined edges of his lower abdomen before slowly unbuttoning his pants.
“You’re gonna kill me baby” you smiled at that, nodding your head “if I wanted to, I would pretty boy” he practically whimpered, the sound made you giggle while unzipping his pants, taking a moment to lightly tug them down his hips a bit, giving yourself more access to him.
“Can I see you?” the question was so sweet and subtle, his mind felt hazy watching as you stared up at him, eyes on his own while you waited on his answer. He nodded his head a few times, letting out a low gasp as you slowly slid his briefs down, fingers grazing over the thick shaft of his cock.
Once you’d pulled his cock out of its constraints you moaned, the sound had him bucking his hips into your hand that was wrapped perfectly around him. Your movements were slow and precise, it was clear that you were teasing him, but before he could protest, you were spitting on his cock, pumping your hand along his cock faster and faster, giggling at his strained moans and whimpers.
You leaned forward, placing a kiss to the tip of his cock before kitten licking it a few times, then wrapping your lips around him, taking him slowly into your mouth, inch by inch until you’d gone as far as you could-gagging on him slightly.
Then you moved away, a string of spit connecting your bottom lip to the head of his cock.
“Have I ever told you how pretty your dick is Bobby? How pretty you are?” he nodded his head again, both hands now on his face while he leaned back into the pillows, muffled moans leaving his parted lips.
Your eyes moved along his cock from its base to the reddened tip, tracing the few prominent veins along his shaft, alongside the swollen head of his cock, all of it with a spit-slick sheen. Then your tongue was back on him, licking along the thickest vein, tracing it like a lollipop.
Beads of precum were leaking from his tip, you switched between using your tongue to gather it, and spreading it with your thumb. You were playing with him, and he was going crazy.
“Baby-please fuck-honey” you looked back up at him, tongue out as you tapped his cock against it, he was now looking at you, desperation evident on his flushed features. His entire upper body had a light red flush, his chest rapidly rising and falling while he moaned above you.
“Okay, I’ll stop teasing you” With one final kiss to the head of his cock you stood up, making a show of taking off your pants, slowly unbuttoning them, bending over and arching your back as you slid them down your body. Once they were off, you reached for your sweatshirt, taking it off and tossing it at him-earning a laugh in response.
You stood in front of him in just your panties and a fitted spaghetti strap tank top.
“You want me to do a little dance for you?” he smiled, shaking his head, now sitting up on his elbows, eyes moving along your figure, very clearly admiring you with a shy smile as if you weren’t just sucking him off. Then you spun around, laughing while jumping a bit, the fat of your ass jiggling at the motion-then you were bending over and his eyes were wide as he watched you slowly slide your panties down your legs.
The evident wet patch in the dark fabric had him biting his lip, but the way they slightly stuck to your slick cunt as you shimmied out of them had him groaning again. Then you were standing up again, facing him while tossing your panties directly at his face.
“Consider it a gift for later” you winked while getting back on the bed, easily slotting yourself above his waist, straddling him yet again, then you were reaching between your thighs, grasping his cock again, slowly sliding it along your cunt before sinking down. You were tired of the teasing, and truthfully, you’d been soaked the entire time.
It was easy to fall into a rhythm with Bob, one of his hands now on your waist, the other intertwined with your own while you did your best to focus on riding him, your hips rising and falling, bouncing against him, enjoying the fullness.
Your moans were getting louder, and your pace was faltering.
While you usually took the lead, you didn’t exactly have the best stamina, not when it came to riding him especially given his size. It wasn’t an easy adjustment the first few times you’d slept together, but now you were used to it, and it drove you mad.
He knew you were already getting tired, offering a love-drunk laugh as you leaned down, forehead resting against his shoulder while you bounced on his cock. He slowly started meeting your movements, hips lightly rising into you, the new movement made you whimper, teeth grazing against his skin.
“You’re doing so good baby” you nodded at his praise, moving to place open mouthed kisses along his jaw. “Just like that, ‘s okay, keep going honey” you whimpered, doing your best to keep going, but your thighs were burning and the pleasure was overwhelming.
Then he wrapped his arm around you, and in seconds you were on your back and he was above you, the sudden movement making you laugh while looking up at him, you squeezed his hand, smiling at the sight of your intertwined fingers.
“Figured you needed a break” you giggled again, rolling your eyes, voice a bit raspy as you mumbled “was it that obvious?” he nodded his head at that, now laughing with you.
Then he was using his other hand to push one of your thighs back slightly, adjusting the angle of his hips before he started slowly thrusting into you, both of your moans blending into one another while he built his own rhythm.
It wasn’t too fast or too slow, the perfect inbetween that had your nails scratching along his back, while you moaned his name, over and over again-enjoying every second of this.
Once he had the perfect angle, he used his free hand to gently pull your tank top down, your tits bouncing with every thrust, the sight had his mouth watering. He was quick to lean into your space, lips on your chest, kissing along your breasts, tongue trailing your hardened nipples one at a time, earning several moans.
While he nipped marks into your skin, he moved his hand to hold your thigh in place, using it to better leverage himself.
Your hand was in his hair now, tugging at the chestnut locks while you moaned his name. The coil in your abdomen was tightening, pleasure overwhelming your senses.
“I’m gonna cum” he nodded his head, now moving his hand from your thigh to between your legs, fingers quickly finding your clit, rubbing half-moons into the sensitive bundle of nerves, as he listened to your high-pitched gasp, your walls fluttering around him at the added pleasure.
You started rolling your hips into him, using your free hand to pull him closer to you, lips back on his, struggling to kiss him as you whimpered against his lips. Your nails dug into his back while you held him close, feeling the coil in your abdomen getting even tighter to the point that you were practically panting against his lips.
Your words were clear as you moaned “I fuckin love you-oh shit”, your back arching into him, hand pulling him closer as your orgasm washed over your entire body, legs shaking slightly at the feeling of him fucking you through it, cock still rocking into you, prolonging your orgasm.
Then as you slowly started coming down, you felt his hips tense slightly, then he was pulling out of you with a low moan, and in seconds he was coating your stomach with thick ropes of cum, the sensation making you giggle.
“Y’know, you could just cum inside of me” he groaned, head now resting in the crook of your neck as he caught his breath, then he slowly moved back, resting on his haunches while you lifted yourself with your elbows, glancing down at the edge of your now ruined tank top, and the evident strings of cum coating the soft pudge of your stomach.
“I don’t think I’m ready for a kid” you were laughing again, hazy smile on your face as you shook your head at him.
“Seriously pretty boy? I’m on the pill y’know” he shrugged at that, slowly tucking himself back into his briefs as he stood up, adjusting his pants for a second before walking towards your en suite bathroom. He was back within a few minutes, now holding two small towels, one wet, the other dry.
He took his time cleaning you up, he always did. “Even if you’re on the pill, we uh-gotta work up to that. I think I might shatter a window the first time I do that” you smiled, shaking your head, now glancing over at the window on the opposite side of the room, eyes tracing the glass to check for any cracks.
“Don’t worry, I didn’t break anything-I already looked around” he spoke as he walked towards one of your dressers, opening the second drawer from the top, pulling out a pair of pajama shorts and a tank top for you, he then threw them at you, smiling while you caught them, tossing your ruined shirt on the ground beside your shared pile of clothes before pulling the new top on.
After freshening up in the bathroom, and putting the new shorts on, you joined him in bed once again, except this time he was in pajama pants without a shirt on, clearly waiting for you to join him.
“Y’know maybe John’s always an asshole cause he’s totally jealous of your abs” you wiggled your brows while you spoke, climbing into the bed beside him, easily propping yourself up beside him, fingers back on his chest and abdomen while he wrapped an arm around your shoulders knowing that it would most likely be numb within ten minutes.
“Or he’s an asshole cause he’s just as asshole” you nodded at that “yeah, probably huh?”
Then you kissed him again, a light peck “I love you Robert” he laughed at your serious tone, followed by you wiggling your brows at the mention of his full name.
He said your full name, winking “-and I love you too”.
The two of you had fallen asleep shortly after that, you were nuzzled into his side and he was flat on his back, embracing you and your warmth.
It wasn’t until several hours later that the hushed commotion in the room had woken the both of you up, well that combined with the large overhead lights that you hated turning on, being on.
“See! I told you it was real! I mean look at Bob! He looks like he was attacked by a vampire! And look how close they are! Plus the pile of clothes! They’re clearly dating and having sex!” Yelena’s whisper was more like a hushed shout as she motioned around the room, then at the two of you in bed together.
“Yel, invading their privacy isn’t being good team members or found family members or whatever your dad calls it!” Ava groaned, her hands on her hips while she looked from Yelena to you and Bob’s resting figures. Her eyes widened slightly as she noticed you shifting around, and in turn, Bob moving as well.
“God damnit, here Yelena” John was clearly irritated as he handed Yelena two twenty dollar bills, shaking his head at the sight of Bob’s hickey-covered skin, and you nuzzled against his skin. It didn’t help that you were both also sharing a blanket, and you looked so calm and comfortable, the exact opposite of how you typically looked.
“Can you all shut the fuck up and get out?” your voice was raspy and hoarse as you squinted your eyes, sitting up slightly at the sight of them. Then Yelena shushed everyone else, mumbling out ‘sorry to interrupt! Please go back to sleep and being in love and stuff!’ then the lights were off and the door slammed shut.
Bob laughed, leading to you lightly slapping his chest.
“Don’t encourage them before they try to ride you into space” he snorted at your joke, shaking his head, a sleepy smile on his face.
“I thought you were the only one riding me?”

Women have always played a significant role at NASA and its predecessor NACA, although for much of the agency’s history, they received neither the praise nor recognition that their contributions deserved. To celebrate Women’s History Month – and properly highlight some of the little-known women-led accomplishments of NASA’s early history – our archivists gathered the stories of four women whose work was critical to NASA’s success and paved the way for future generations.
LaRue Burbank: One of the Women Who Helped Land a Man on the Moon
LaRue Burbank was a trailblazing mathematician at NASA. Hired in 1954 at Langley Memorial Aeronautical Laboratory (now NASA’s Langley Research Center), she, like many other young women at NACA, the predecessor to NASA, had a bachelor's degree in mathematics. But unlike most, she also had a physics degree. For the next four years, she worked as a "human computer," conducting complex data analyses for engineers using calculators, slide rules, and other instruments. After NASA's founding, she continued this vital work for Project Mercury.
In 1962, she transferred to the newly established Manned Spacecraft Center (now NASA’s Johnson Space Center) in Houston, becoming one of the few female professionals and managers there. Her expertise in electronics engineering led her to develop critical display systems used by flight controllers in Mission Control to monitor spacecraft during missions. Her work on the Apollo missions was vital to achieving President Kennedy's goal of landing a man on the Moon.
Eilene Galloway: How NASA became… NASA

Eilene Galloway wasn't a NASA employee, but she played a huge role in its very creation. In 1957, after the Soviet Union launched Sputnik, Senator Richard Russell Jr. called on Galloway, an expert on the Atomic Energy Act, to write a report on the U.S. response to the space race. Initially, legislators aimed to essentially re-write the Atomic Energy Act to handle the U.S. space goals. However, Galloway argued that the existing military framework wouldn't suffice – a new agency was needed to oversee both military and civilian aspects of space exploration. This included not just defense, but also meteorology, communications, and international cooperation.
Her work on the National Aeronautics and Space Act ensured NASA had the power to accomplish all these goals, without limitations from the Department of Defense or restrictions on international agreements. Galloway is even to thank for the name "National Aeronautics and Space Administration", as initially NASA was to be called “National Aeronautics and Space Agency” which was deemed to not carry enough weight and status for the wide-ranging role that NASA was to fill.
Barbara Scott: The “Star Trek Nerd” Who Led Our Understanding of the Stars

A self-described "Star Trek nerd," Barbara Scott's passion for space wasn't steered toward engineering by her guidance counselor. But that didn't stop her! Fueled by her love of math and computer science, she landed at Goddard Spaceflight Center in 1977. One of the first women working on flight software, Barbara's coding skills became instrumental on missions like the International Ultraviolet Explorer (IUE) and the Thermal Canister Experiment on the Space Shuttle's STS-3. For the final decade of her impressive career, Scott managed the flight software for the iconic Hubble Space Telescope, a testament to her dedication to space exploration.
Dr. Claire Parkinson: An Early Pioneer in Climate Science Whose Work is Still Saving Lives

Dr. Claire Parkinson's love of math blossomed into a passion for climate science. Inspired by the Moon landing, and the fight for civil rights, she pursued a graduate degree in climatology. In 1978, her talents landed her at Goddard, where she continued her research on sea ice modeling. But Parkinson's impact goes beyond theory. She began analyzing satellite data, leading to a groundbreaking discovery: a decline in Arctic sea ice coverage between 1973 and 1987. This critical finding caught the attention of Senator Al Gore, highlighting the urgency of climate change.
Parkinson's leadership extended beyond research. As Project Scientist for the Aqua satellite, she championed making its data freely available. This real-time information has benefitted countless projects, from wildfire management to weather forecasting, even aiding in monitoring the COVID-19 pandemic. Parkinson's dedication to understanding sea ice patterns and the impact of climate change continues to be a valuable resource for our planet.

the ethics of belief — [p.sh].
SYNOPSIS. you’ve been noticing some signs that park sunghoon seems to have a problem with you, and you’re resolute to getting a straight confirmation or denial from him rather than taking the signs as they are and believing in the worst. it’s less troublesome that way. you’d much rather believe what he’d say than spend the remaining two and half-years mulling over something that doesn’t even matter.
meanwhile, park sunghoon also harbors his own unvoiced beliefs about you and your person. the issue arises when that belief starts to fester under the seams of certainty and doubt— a firm credence denied from the opportunity of validation.
and that’s when the belief of oneself usually starts to fall apart.
PAIRING. park sunghoon x female! reader. GENRE. college! au, classmates! au, strangers to one-sided enemies/academic rivals to friends to lovers to exes to [redacted], romance, angst, hurt/comfort, humor, drama, inspired by my nth reread of the manhwa “cheese in the trap.” WARNINGS. swearing, an initial unhealthy dynamic that gets better with time, misogyny, daddy issues LMAO, dishonesty, ulterior motives HUAHA, self-sabotage, talks of insecurities, so much academic dumps and word vomits, the mc’s are political science students that enough deserves a warning, more tba. WORD COUNT. est. 15-20k. preview 2.5k.
TAGLIST. i will be completely transparent and say that i may or may not even get to finish this HAHAHAH nevertheless, if you’re interested, just shoot an ask/dm/reply!
NOTE. i am.....up to something yet again HHAHAHHAHA. was really inspired to write something like this after rereading cheese in the trap!!! it took me while to decide which kpop boy i should subject to my whims this time, and idk why i even bothered mulling it over when hoon was literally the perfect fit for this perfectionist, passionate, paranoid male lead 😔😔. quite different tone than the fics i usually write (quarter life crisis time). anyhow, i hope this piques your interest! enjoy!
preview under the cut.
“YOU’RE SITTING ON THE COUCH, WHEN YOU HEAR A KNOCK. The police have arrived to arrest your spouse— for murder. This accusation comes as a total shock, but their fingerprints were found on the murder weapon. Your spouse insists they’re innocent. Should you believe your spouse, even though the evidence against them looks damning? This, class, is a classic example of an ethical dilemma.”
There is a guy from your major that you’ve recently come to notice.
“Discussed by Alex Worsnip, this question covers the ethics of belief through various lenses, including evidentialism and pragmatism—”
Well. It’s not as if you’ve never noticed him before.
“It was W.K. Clifford who coined the term the ethics of belief in his 1876 book under the same name. He forwarded the evidentialist view of belief in determining the correct, or moral, way of viewing a situation or problem— that is, by believing things based on the evidence at hand. However, this is not the only perspective we can use to anchor our respective belief systems.”
It’s just that for the past two months you’ve known him, you’ve noticed that his behavior around you has been quite…odd, in comparison to the rest of your peers.
“Now, let us go back to the problem I’ve presented earlier. Hmm. Let’s see the attendance list—”
He was the first person you were introduced to during the pre-academic-year-get-together when you came back after spending the previous semester in a government sponsored exchange program to the U.S. In fact, it was very hard not to notice him, considering that the moment you arrived at the event— late, because you had to spend the entire day unpacking your studio the hours prior— he was a new face surrounded by a notable amount of people from your year.
And your first impression of him was simple.
“—is Park Sunghoon present?
(“This is Sunghoon! Park Sunghoon! C’mon, say hi!”
A tall, good-looking, well-off, popular guy who apparently also has a great personality. Sim Jaehyun’s introduction of Park Sunghoon seems to have maxed out on adjectives. He apparently also transferred to this program— Bachelor of Arts in Political Science— at the same time you left for your exchange program. He, after one once-over amidst the crowded scene, is someone you’ve concluded that you’re better off simply retaining as an acquaintance and a classmate because of the very adjectives Jaeyun described him with.
Popular, after only a semester of being here. Carries with him a crowd of people. That’s far too troublesome for you to voluntarily deal with.
So, for your own benefit, the smart decision is simply to never go further beyond being on polite terms with Park Sunghoon.
“Nice to meet you.”
“Ah. Yes, hi.”
“Now, don’t be awkward! Everyone already knows each other except for the both of you. You two should put in the effort to get closer.”
There’s a slight lag to Park Sunghoon’s smile. You smile back, scanning the rented venue for Kim Yeondu— closest friend since first semester and is trying to recruit you into the Strava cult— else you’d be a few minutes, few tequila shots too late from saving her from embarrassing herself on the first unofficial day of the semester. Nam Deokhwan seems to have already gotten the ball rolling and passing around drinks. Choi Nari is yelling at you three to come join for a group photo.
An exhale from you, you tighten your smile and flicker your gaze back to your new acquaintance, who looks like he’s also ready to get this awkward introduction over with. Jaeyun is the only soul in this three-person liminal space that’s even somewhat enthusiastic.
At last, Park Sunghoon extends out a hand for a shake. “Let’s get along,” he says.
“Sure,” you politely reply.)
“Present, sir.”
Your eyes trail off from your notes, all the way to the other side of the lecture hall, several seats away from you to look at the only individual standing amidst the sea of seated students. “Your spouse has been accused of murder with damning evidence.” Prof Yoon flickers the slide back to the previous one, the question printed on the projector screen. “Should you believe them or not?”
There’s a polite smile on his face— an easygoing yet comfortable air. His posture is as straight as it can get. His profile is something artists would want to transfer onto canvas. “I would believe the evidence presented against my spouse’s testimony, Professor Yoon.”
You click the end of your pen, pointing the inked tip towards the paper with a hum.
“Care to expound?”
Sitting next to you in the hall is Yeondu, who has her eyes locked straight onto Park Sunghoon as he begins his answer. “The phrasing of ‘should you believe’ them rather than would implies a moral obligation of belief. In this scenario, what I’d want to believe does not matter. Even if my spouse had been, for example, loving and kind throughout the course of our relationship, the existence of police-discovered evidence that they had committed the crime of murder would overpower any emotionally-driven feelings of belief that I’d have.” You hear her sigh a little. Dreamily even, with her elbows propped up on the table and palms cupping her cheeks. “Evidence points us towards the direction of the truth, therefore there is no question but to believe in it.”
“Jesus, I have not registered a single word he said, but fuck, he sure sounds hot as hell when he talks smart.”
You laugh a little. You’re not one to deny that Park Sunghoon is indeed smart, handsome, and has the voice of an angel. But none of those are the sources of his difference in his behavior towards you. At least, you don’t think it is.
“Very good, Sunghoon. Your take is a clear evidentialist perspective towards the dilemma.”
A prompt from your professor, Park Sunghoon nods and returns to his seat, eliciting some murmurs from everyone else around. You set down your pen. You straighten your back.
“I’d like to hear if anyone has a different answer.”
You raise a hand.
“Yes?”
All eyes are on you—
“Thank you, sir. While the evidentialist point of view might seem the most rational, I’d like to argue otherwise.”
—including Park Sunghoon’s
“I do not disagree with the moral burden of who I should believe. And in this case, I should believe my spouse. Not because of love or the fact that we are in a relationship. Regardless of the individual, the principle that everyone is presumed to be innocent until proven guilty beyond rest still stands.” You begin. You direct your attention towards Professor Yoon as you continue speaking. However, your peripheral notices something interesting. “Given that the situation is provided that the evidence is simply presented in testimony by a police officer outside the court, it is still yet to be verified and judged by the court of law. The same goes with my spouse. Therefore, until the law declares them guilty or otherwise for the crime of murder, I would choose to believe my spouse over anything.”
Park Sunghoon had been preparing to raise his hand. And he does. “May I ask her a question?” he asks. Professor Yoon nods at him to go ahead, and— when Park Sunghoon turns his head to direct his attention towards you— it fails to slip under your notice.
That annoyed look in his eyes. Bothered. Discomforted.
“Do you argue that we have the ability to choose what we believe?”
That’s the very reason why you can’t help but notice him more than you’d like.
“We have no control over the beliefs we carry. If we have that ability, then the concept of doubt would not exist, and this dilemma would not exist, either.”
Another round of murmurs arise. You nod and smile. “That’s a good point. However, I still stand with my argument.” What is up with that look of irritation? What is his problem? “We may not be able to control our beliefs at will, but our belief systems are shaped by our principles, morals, and experiences, are they not? My principles of justice alongside the experiences of a healthy and loving relationship would lead me towards believing him above anything else. This is not an argument based on emotion. Upon marriage, a moral obligation towards your spouse is conceived.”
You see him flinch. His brows furrow, a counter-argument already brewing in his mind.
“Should the time come that your spouse is indeed proven innocent, and your belief stood against them, then I’d say that you have failed your moral obligation.”
Unfortunately, the opportunity to fire it is stripped away the moment he opens his mouth. “That is a very good argument. I believe Mr Park Sunghoon has more to say, but unfortunately, we don’t have enough time to discuss things further. You two may take your seats.”
It seems like both you and Park Sunghoon get the similar idea to give each other one last glance before sitting back down. You, offering a smile and a nod of acknowledgement after sharing a fruitful discussion. Him, masking that previous expression of annoyance by mirroring yours, followed by an immediate turn around— head snapping back in front as if he couldn’t bear to look at you any longer.
Seriously. What’s up with him?
Yeondu scratches something onto your abandoned sheet of paper the moment you release a breath and sink back into your seat. Whoa, that was an intense exchange, she wrote. Pay attention, you scribble back with a soft hum. Though, you’re not exactly one to talk because although you’re looking at Professor Yoon and trying your best to listen to her talk, the recently concluded exchange with the man in front has gotten your mind wandering.
“As much as I’d like to hear discussions of other common ethical dilemmas such as the trolley problem, it seems like we only have around five minutes left for today’s class. However, this isn’t our only opportunity for discourse.”
All evidence points towards the idea that Park Sunghoon has a problem with you.
“Next week is the College Field Day, so we won’t be meeting. The week after that, we will be having a debate.”
But you’re not one to jump to conclusions. So until you get a confirmation from Park Sunghoon personally—
“Please see the screen for your groups. I will be posting the guidelines and propositions on our MIS immediately after this class, so please be guided. Once you’ve checked your groups, you may be dismissed. Thank you.”
—you’d much rather hold your suspicions at bay for the time being.
“Ah, fuck me, I’m with Deokhwan! What about you, where’s your— oh! There you are. You’re grouped with Jaeyun and—” It seems like there’s a magnet constantly pulling your vision towards one side of the lecture hall today. Park Sunghoon seems to have read the list at the same time as you did, registered the names listed, and looked over to you at the same time as you did. “Sunghoon! God damn, did Prof Yoon even randomize this? This is crazy. Thank god we’re not fighting against your group.”
At the same time as Professor Yoon takes her leave, the rest of your classmates also slowly trickle out of the lecture hall, while some have opted to remain inside. Park Sunghoon and the rest of the people surrounding him seem to have opted to leave. He already has his bag slung over his shoulder, chatting alongside Jaeyun and Nari and Jongseong and a few others.
You’re still unsure if you’re simply being sensitive, or if he does indeed have an issue with you. Quickly, you gather your things as well. Yeondu shoves her ethics book into her tote bag and locks arms with you. “Anyway, where should we eat? Jiyeon said there’s pork cutlet on the menu today.”
Uncertainties are troublesome. It gets your brain churning more often than you’d like, expending energy more inefficiently than you’d like.
“Do you mind waiting for a second?”
And you’re not very fond of troublesome things.
“I’ll go meet with my group mates first.”
So wouldn’t it make the most sense to just ask him directly?
Yeondu tells you to take it easy, but lets you off with a wave. You march up to the group moving towards the middle aisle dividing two sides of the lecture hall seating. They walk down the pitched flooring, on the way to the bottom of the hall. You cut off that opening. Park Sunghoon’s steps stutter mid-speech at your sudden appearance. Jaeyun releases a surprised whoa. “Park Sunghoon,” you greet. He blinks his widened eyes in response. “Jaeyun, too. Sorry for the interruption. Are you guys heading out for lunch? I was hoping to schedule a meeting time for us first so we could start researching for the debate.”
The initial surprise subsides in the air. Jaeyun breaks the awkward silence with a laugh. “Whoa. You’re way too diligent, dude! Prof Yoon hasn’t even posted the propositions yet.” He nudges his friend for some backup. However, Sunghoon— seeming to only have shaken off his stupor a few moments ago— agrees with you, instead.
“She’s right, Jake,” he says, nudging back his friend, and Park Sunghoon’s eyes trail away from his friend to you, a practiced, polite smile covering his face. “How about we meet later after class at the campus cafe? That way, we’d have more time to sit down for a discussion.”
“Hey, you guys can talk this out later! I’m starving!”
You notice Sunghoon’s smile stiffening for a second. Only for a brief second and you look over to the scene behind his shoulder— a group of evidently impatient and irritated friends, mostly emanating from Nari, who’s leering right at you. You ignore them. You respond to Sunghoon with an expression mirroring his own. “Sure, that’s fine with me,” you say. “My classes end at four.”
“We both finish by four-thirty!” Jayun shutters in, throwing an arm around Sunghoon’s neck, grinning widely with the conversation finally coming to an end. His gaze is already glued to the door. “Alright, we’ll see you later. C’mon, guys. Lunch, lunch, lunch!”
Jaeyun passes you by with a friendly pat on the shoulder. Jongseong nods at you and walks ahead. Among the rest of the group walking past you, you feel one of them bumping into your shoulder, by accident or otherwise, yet even that falls far under your notice in comparison to the first person that passed you by.
It was from the corner of your eye, but you’re sure that Park Sunghoon’s smile disappeared with the roll of his eyes the moment he took the step down and walked past your sight-line.
You caught that. Without a doubt.
“You done? C’mon, let’s go eat!”
Yeondu skips over to you after your mini-meeting, tugging you by the arm out the door, but your mind remains on the two levels of the lecture floor aisle. In spite of the evidence pointing towards Park Sunghoon’s masked distaste towards your person, your personality, your existence— whatever, it’s not the time to ask him about it yet.
Until then, you’ll have to table your judgements and how you intend on dealing with him.

President Trump’s relationship with climate change policy has been highly controversial and has drawn a significant amount of attention from politicians, environmentalists, and global leaders. While it is true that Trump has been a vocal skeptic of climate change science and has historically supported policies that many believe undermine global climate efforts, the assertion that he would "stop" the progress on climate change entirely is more complicated. There are several factors to consider that illustrate why it is unlikely that Donald Trump will be able to halt the progress on climate change entirely, even with policies that prioritize fossil fuel industries, deregulation, and skepticism towards international climate accords.
1. Global Movements and Public Opinion
One of the primary forces that will prevent Trump from halting climate progress is the widespread global movement in other nations in favor of addressing climate change. Over the past few decades, public awareness and concern over environmental degradation, the rise of extreme weather events, and the growing scientific consensus on climate change have catalyzed action at various levels. Even during Trump's tenure as president, the shift towards climate activism grew, with international agreements such as the Paris Agreement, corporate initiatives, and grassroots environmental movements gaining momentum.
Public opinion, especially in democracies, plays a significant role in shaping policy. In the United States, the majority of Americans support climate action, including a strong preference for clean energy and renewable resources. Despite Trump’s rhetoric, various cities, states, and businesses in the U.S. have continued to prioritize climate goals. For instance, states like California have implemented ambitious climate policies, such as transitioning to 100% renewable energy by 2045. Furthermore, a growing number of corporations have pledged to achieve net-zero emissions. The private sector’s movement towards sustainability, driven by consumer demand, investor pressure, and increasing environmental risks, represents a substantial force for climate action that extends beyond the federal government.
Even if Trump were to reverse or dismantle federal climate policies, the local and private sector commitments would likely remain largely unaffected. These bottom-up efforts represent a powerful counterbalance to federal inaction and are likely to continue advancing the fight against climate change regardless of the administration in power.
2. Economic Shift Toward Clean Energy
While Trump has been a staunch advocate for coal, oil, and gas, the global economic shift toward renewable energy is undeniable. The cost of renewable technologies, such as solar and wind power, has drastically decreased over the last decade. This economic shift makes clean energy an increasingly competitive and attractive option for both developed and developing countries. By 2025, it is estimated that the cost of solar energy will continue to fall, making it even more affordable and mainstream.
The renewable energy sector has seen significant growth in its employment. According to the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), more than 11 million people worldwide were employed in the renewable energy industry by 2021, a figure that is expected to continue rising as nations transition away from fossil fuels. The growth of renewable energy markets is increasingly detached from political agendas, driven by technological innovation and economic pragmatism. Regardless of Trump’s policies, these forces are already in motion and will likely continue to expand, creating jobs, boosting economies, and driving global progress on climate change.
Additionally, as the consequences of climate change, such as extreme weather events, wildfires, and rising sea levels, continue to threaten communities and industries, the push for sustainable infrastructure and resilient urban planning grows. The cost of inaction will continue to drive investments in climate adaptation and mitigation technologies, further fueling the global transition to cleaner energy systems.
3. International Cooperation and Climate Diplomacy
Even during Trump’s presidency, when the United States withdrew from the Paris Agreement in 2017, international cooperation on climate change continued unabated. While the U.S. decision to exit the accord was a blow, it did not signal the end of global climate diplomacy. Many world leaders and climate organizations pushed forward with ambitious plans for carbon reduction, renewable energy investments, and international collaboration. The European Union, China, and India, as well as other nations, have made strides in combating climate change through national policies and international agreements.
Trump’s reluctance to engage with the Paris Agreement, as well as his opposition to climate-focused international cooperation, did not isolate the U.S. from the global conversation on climate change. The U.S. remained a key player in many climate-related issues at the local, corporate, and state levels, even if the federal government under Trump was less cooperative.
4. Technological Innovation and Climate Solutions
The energy sector, which has traditionally relied on fossil fuels, is undergoing a profound transformation. Advances in battery technology, electric vehicles, and green hydrogen are already making renewable energy more feasible for widespread use. As technology continues to develop, renewable energy solutions will become more efficient, less expensive, and more scalable.
Furthermore, the global push for climate action will continue to stimulate innovation. Even if Trump were to curtail government funding for green technology, private investment in clean energy and sustainability is projected to increase. Major companies are making significant strides to reduce their carbon footprints, from Google’s goal of running on 100% renewable energy to Tesla’s push for mass adoption of electric vehicles. Corporate pressure and consumer demand will continue to drive innovation and reduce reliance on fossil fuels, limiting the potential for any one individual, including Trump, to stop the progress on climate change.
5. The Resilience of Local and State-Level Action
Despite the Trump administration’s rollback of federal climate policies, local and state governments in the U.S. have continued to push forward with their climate initiatives. States like California, New York, and Washington have continued to prioritize climate action, passing laws that mandate emission reductions, promote renewable energy development, and require climate adaptation strategies.
This decentralized approach to climate action ensures that the United States remains a significant actor in the global effort to combat climate change. Even if Trump were to reintroduce policies that weaken federal regulations, states and cities would likely continue their push for climate policies in line with the global scientific consensus. This “bottom-up” approach is a vital counterbalance to the federal government’s actions and is indicative of a broader commitment to addressing climate change that transcends individual political figures.

American academics are actively being dismantled. I've already talked about the shitshow at the NiH but anything with the slightest mention of diversity is being frozen, links taken down, and likely going to be eliminated permanently. It seems like this even includes things that aren't DEI focused, but mention diversity as a value or goal. So much is changing so rapidly, though, so the full scope of this is really anyone's guess.
This is devastating. I've never benefited from a DEI program myself, but NIH MARC and RISE, as well as similar programs, were necessary to create the research environment I was trained in. The most brilliant scientists I've ever met, lifelong professional contacts and friends, would have been financially shut out from science if these programs didn't exist.
There's no recourse for this. This isn't something that can be fought in the courts. The best that can be done is granting more shields to these programs in the legislature, which is unlikely to happen.
I'm not a reliable source here, and I know I'm spouting doom and gloom. This is a vent, I can't vouch for my accuracy. But I just... fuck.

Dazzling Starlet [S. Snyder x Reader]
CHAPTER 2: STORM SURGE
''I don't know who he is.''
[name] was stuck in a weird situation in general. With what happened last night, Ryusui knew that she is hiding something and it could be the main reason why she seemed to be spacing out more than usual.
''He?'' Ryusui asked, quickly pointing out what she had said, ''You mean that a man was the one who shot us last night?''
The team had begun to brainstorm on their next possible move. Now that they had confirm that the American lands have residents who managed to survive on their own and is years ahead in terms of weapons, as great as the news is, it's not great for them. Senku had made it clear that their goal for this travel is to find the specific species of corn that is native to the U.S. which they did but someone is there and guarding the lands.
Everyone is on the edge about who the mysterious person could be and if the place has more in store for them. [name] is still stuck on the same conversation with Ryusui, in which he was very adamant that she is hiding something from him. He wasn't one to be suspicious or meddle with her life but it's not just her life is on the line, it's along with everyone else.
And if she does know something, it's better for her to tell them before things escalate beyond their control.
''Look, that person is well-trained, we saw that last night.'' [name] began, her brows furrowed as she explains her case, ''They were camouflaged and had set a trap -''
''And I saw it." Ryusui said, interrupting her sentence. He was certain with what he saw with his own eyes, and that is [name] hesitating to do something she was trained for. "Do you know them or not?"
"I don't know."
[name] isn't exactly sure what Ryusui wanted her to say or admit it to everyone else. She doesn't know who it was and has her own suspicions about who it could possibly be but since she's in the dark along with everybody else, that means there's nothing else they could do.
The rest of the team who is on the lab was quiet as they try to maneuver the tension between the two. Senku knew that they are close but Gen recognized the way that Ryusui is leaning towards [name] he wanted her to take initiative about something, or probably because she is older than him.
He's pushing her too far... Gen thought to himself.
He knows the danger that lies within pushing the boundary of people and with [name], her loyalty may lie with the team but she's not exactly agreeing with their plan about reviving the world.
For now, they don't know what the reason is but [name] may commit treason sooner than later.
"So there's another science-user." Senku stated as he stared at the damage caused by the machine gun.
The scientist was quick to change the subject into something else, which is something that won't cause Ryusui and [name] to have a conflict since it's not the right time for such thing.
"Just like Senku, on the other side of the world? Someone who revived their own?" Taiju asked.
"Heh heh heh. It's not like I put a patent on that." Senku replied with a pinky finger on his ear. "And scientific knowledge is free for everyone around the world. Anyone can learn, if they want to."
"And like dear Senku, did this person start from square one with a dinky stone axe all the way up to the machine guns?" Gen asked in disbelief. "That's hardly simple enough for everybody."
They turned to the h/c nette, who is still on the lookout for anything that could attack them at any moment.
Ukyo, who is a sonar technician for the SDF Navy, added, "This is all conjecture until we make contact but what I know for sure is, this is a scientist who managed to revive on their own, plus...."
"Their science is a teeny bit more advanced than ours." Senku continued which made the others shocked. "At least in terms of weaponry."
"Teeny bit?" [name] asks, a little harsher than it should have been. She looked at Senku who was looking more tired than usual, probably from last night's attack "Senku, the gap is immaculate! I work with those types of guns before and that one had been innovated and —"
"There's one more refutable fact." Ryusui announced. "This person is eager to see us dead!"
The archer gasps in surprise upon hearing a very familiar sound. "That's..... The sound of an engine."
"They're pursuing us?" Kinro asked.
"No." Kohaku said sternly. "I've been vigilant and even with my eyesight I haven't spotted a thing."
[name]'s e/c colored orbs scanned the entire area they are in until she looked up. She froze upon seeing what it is, and not only that, the armor of the person who is operating the plane is wearing is something she found somewhat familiar.
"Wait.... That sound..." Ukyo mumbled.
"No freaking way...!" Yo said.
Everyone looks at where the sound was coming from, the people in the modern era knew exactly what it was, a plane.
Senku's eyes widened upon seeing the aircraft, Taiju's voice managed to somehow snap him out of his trance.
"Senku! What now? Should we try to greet them and make contact?" Taiju asked as he shook Senku.
"Or perhaps waving the white flag is our best option for now. This is our only chance to talk it out and make friends...." Gen suggested.
"Hah? With an enemy who shot us in sight?"
"Unfortunately... They wouldn't be flying so dangerously low if they don't intend to attack!" Ukyo stated, his eyes not leaving the plane.
"Ryusui!" [name] yelled as the blonde smirks.
"Of course! Just grabbed onto something cause we'll be getting out of here full speed ahead!"
The person aim for everyone who is onboard, and Matsukaze got shot on his shoulder while saving Ginro.
"Ouch!!! Owwww!!" Ginro wailed.
"Never fear-tis but a scratch." Matsukaze reassures them.
"Protect me, Matsukaze!"
"You're not even hurt." Kinro commented.
The door of the lab opened as [name] jumped on the waters to where the others are and grabbed the gun from Yo's hand, who is shooting but missing the target all together.
"You're just gonna keep missing. So stop wasting ammo." Hyoga said.
"What other options do we have? There's nowhere to run!"
The h/c nette grabbed the gun from Yo's hands and pulled the trigger but it's already out of bullets. She then reached out to her belt where she kept her sword attached, but realized that she left it in the lab. With no weapon, [name] think of another plan they could do and get one in mind.
"Kirisame! If Senku throws you something, aim for the engine." She whispered as the woman nodded, following [name]'s orders as she swam to where the rest are.
The boat was destroyed and all the warriors are on the waters and if anything, they are right out in the open. [name] aimed on the engine but it hit the frame instead and the bullet was deflected, "Shit. There's no ammo left."
"Up on the front!" Kohaku yelled.
"They'll keep coming back... until we're sleeping with the fishes!"
Senku then mixed something in the bottle and threw it in the Kirisame's direction as she easily caught it, "You've got one heck of a throwing arm! Whaddya needs to put in good use!"
"I need stable footing." Kirisame answers. "And some rope..."
Chrome gave her a rope with a loop and with the help of Kohaku, Taiju and Kinro, she was able to throw the bottle in the engine of the plan, successfully knocking it down.
"We did it!!" They cheered as Kirisame looked at the water bashfully.
"But how exactly?"
.
.
.
They managed to knock out the engine with a little move. Stanley had no choice but to jump out of the aircraft as it got stuck between the branches of the trees. Xeno then proceeded to explain that they used acetylene gas, harmless to people but it can stall an engine in a mere one percent concentration. The scientist mentioned how this is an elegant way to bring down an aircraft.
"So it's made with pyro-whatever weapons? I feel like I've learned about this."
"Pyrophoric, yes."
"Looks like being petrified for thousands of years is gonna cause some memory lapses."
"It can be compounded from a simple mixture of water and carbon carbide. And carbon carbide can be obtained by burning charcoal and seashells and....."
A sigh escaped his lips as he reached out on his pocket, "Sure, got it. It was a good lesson." The man said as he lit up a cigarette. "Now we know that our enemy has a sharp-witted science pro just like you."
.
.
.
"What if they decided to come back with their friends? We better skedaddle while we can!" Ginro tried to reason with them though Ryusui, Senku and [name] already made up their mind.
"Run away?" Ryusui asks with a weird smile on his face.
"What're you saying?" Senku said with the same smile. "We're gonna do the opposite of that."
"I'm not letting the opportunity of owning a plane slip by." [name] added. "Besides, we gotta thank them for this little gift that they left for us!"
The blonde sailor nodded in agreement. This is a chance they shouldn't waste. Actually, he just wanted the aircraft.
"Nobody is here." Kohaku stated as she checked the plane which is stuck on a tree. "Do you think whoever it was ran away? We could've interrogated them for some information..."
"Oh well... Looks like they left something behind." Senku said, not caring if it once belonged to the enemy.
"Indeed. Finders keepers!"
[name] watches as they bought back the aircraft aboard the Perseus. To her, it seems like a normal plane that she would usually see back in the modern world except there's one thing that stood out like a sore thumb. And that is the glass skis on the plane. America is a continent that is vast and does have a lot of resources that is only found in this area. But why would they use glass instead of rubber? Could it be possible that they couldn't find that material anywhere here? Or is it because they didn't search anywhere beyond their territory.
''[name]!!! Look! Look! This is the exact replica of the ones back in the modern world!'' Ryusui excitedly entered the plane and began assessing what they have. It is difficult for him to contain his emotions and these are the type of things that get him working up, ''Damn. They really are more advanced than us.'' He asked the h/c haired woman who only nodded at him in response before cleaning up the engine that they deliberately destroyed.
She took one look at what she's supposed to fix before turning to Senku, ''Just replace this. It's destroyed.''
''Oh yeah. We meant to do that.''
''And you want me to fix this?'' [name] asked, realizing that Senku thought that she could provide all the solutions in every problem that they have. ''No. Besides I have other things to worry about like - Ryusui!'' She yelled at him before catching him right as he was about to lose his footing, ''Told you not to get distracted.''
Gen could only let out a tired chuckle as the group loaded the plane back to the Perseus ship. Just moments before the attack, Ryusui and [name] are arguing and now, they seemed to be fine together.
This must be hereditary...? Gen thought to himself, referring to the fact that their mood goes an entirely 180 degrees when it comes to things that they see eye to eye.
''Like I said, I won't do it.'' You argued with Senku who paid no attention to your concern.
''Nope. Not like you have a choice.'' Senku said, waving his hand dismissively, ''Either you fix the engine or pilot the aircraft.''
With what Senku had learned, [name] despise operating aircrafts. She hated how fast it moves and whenever it travelled on high altitudes, it always made her even more lightheaded than usual. And with the choices being presented to her, the choice was obvious. Create a new engine and replace it.
"Standard practice calls for a tactical retreat immediately after a sneak attack." Tsukasa stated. "But the alternative does involved risks choosing to pursue carries it's own advantage."
Gen was suspicious about Tsukasa's words, "Pursue who?"
"Isn't it obvious? Our new friend, the pilot of that plane." Senku replied calmly. "A whole corn field would be a lucky find that'd save us years of cultivation and propagation. Don't forget why we came all the way-the corn."
"Ahem. I meant...." Gen said then titled his head sideways. "Who will be doing... the pursuing?"
He knew that he shouldn't ask that question, but he still did. Gen was hoping his haunch is wrong, but as per usual, it was spot on.
A knowing smirk makes its way on Senku's face as he thought about who should pursue the unknown enemy... And one of them had happened to present himself before the decision is made.

kara danvers :)
ok well you and i have discussed this at length so this will not be new to you but imco (in my correct opinion) kara danvers [as portrayed by the cw's supergirl, not necessarily in other versions] is actually pretty lazy, and i would argue this is one of her most central and consistent character traits. and i don't just mean physically lazy, although i should note that per 3.17 "trinity" she canonically Hates Walking and doesn't understand why humans exercise. i mostly mean on an intellectual & moral level.
kara wants to be a reporter, but when she figures this out (because......a pretty lady told her she should do it? ig?), she does not apply to journalism school, or take online classes. instead she is handed a reporter job by her boss (who scrawled 'reporter' on her hilariously terrible resume when they met for reasons known only to her) and from then on proceeds to basically just do whatever she wants and get offended when more seasoned reporters who have gone to journalism school ask her to do basic functions of the job like Acquire Sources and Report On The Facts And Not Just Your Personal Opinions. at no point do we really see her ask her colleagues, even friendly ones like james, for advice or help; instead, advice is something that's imposed upon her by the wicked snapper, who dares to be unimpressed by her uneducated slay. throughout the show, on multiple occasions, the idea of actually Doing Her Job seems to offend her -- lena even calls her out for this explicitly in 3.02 "triggers," but she continues to display this behavior with andrea in s5 & s6. in the finale, when she is promoted to editor-in-chief in an act of blatant cronyism that truthfully should prompt the entire catco staff to quit in protest, it is not on her initiative, nor due to her efforts, nor is it because anything about the position has piqued her interest; it is, again, simply handed to her, and she just accepts.
additionally, we rarely see her express meaningful curiosity about, well, any subject, really -- we know she learned calculus young, but her interest in math and science seems nil; she is deeply naive about the u.s. justice system in s6 in a way that suggests she has never looked into it, though her own mother was a judge on krypton; and a lot of her interests seem very Basic (pizza, potstickers [? why girl.], nsync, the wizard of oz, harry potter), which to be clear is not inherently a sign of intellectual laziness or incuriosity, but it also does nothing to suggest that she is someone with a wide knowledge of food, literature, music, or film.
she also demonstrates what i would argue is a kind of moral laziness, though you could call it an offshoot of her intellectual laziness, in her general lack of real self-reflection about, like, any of her actions. although some of the other characters sometimes bring up how messed-up the DEO is (e.g. james in s1 with the gitmo comparison -- which, CRAZY line to put in your show and then never address, btw), kara herself does not question it (until the Wrong People take over, of course). her rhetoric in early s2 about daxamites suggests that she is quite comfortable believing sweeping generalizations she was taught as a child and has never really sat down to interrogate them, but while mon-el being.....pretty bad but i guess not as bad as his mom? yay? inspires her to stop being bigoted against daxamites specifically, we will later still hear her say that certain species tend to be peaceful or aggressive, etc., with no self-reflection. in 3.05 "damage," when morgan edge tries to make it seem like lena's lead dispersal device that kara activated poisoned children, kara does not take the opportunity to self-reflect on the choice she made and whether it was worth it; instead, her arc for the episode is reacting emotionally to her best buddy feeling guilty (about the thing kara also did. i cannot emphasize that part enough).
i would argue the conclusion she draws in 5.13, too, smacks of this moral laziness; she spends the episode looking for a magic shortcut to not having to feel bad anymore, and when she can't find one, she decides that actually, meh, there was never a perfect way for things to go down, so all that lying wasn't such a big deal and lena should just get over it. kara is dripping with a lot of guilt in 5A, but throughout both 5A and 5B there's very little actual, thoughtful self-reflection on what she did wrong and why, and that carries over into S6 when, after like ten episodes of lena (and also william ig) repeatedly trying to tell her not to play god, she decides in the very penultimate episode to solve her problems by eating the sun, and then when she decides against it partway through doing it, there's again very little self-reflection on her part of why the hell she thought that was a good thing to do. kara's morality, on the whole, seems largely based on (a) alex and (b) vibes, and not so much on any actual thought she's dedicated to the moral questions at hand.
and similarly to when kara is asked to Do Her Damn Job at her place of work -- when kara is challenged on her morality (like when lena challenges her on the kryptonite in s3, or on myriad in 5.17), she acts annoyed at the very idea of having to do the hard work of thinking about the morals she espouses as a superhero. and it doesn't read as someone who has thought very hard about her moral choices and is offended because she believes so strongly that she's right, because we never actually see her thinking hard about these moral choices she makes at all. it reads as someone who hasn't thought about it beyond a very cursory level and is frustrated that she's being asked to. because, again, she's just fundamentally kind of lazy.
and the thing is this might sound like i am dunking on her but actually i think this is a trait that is incredibly funny. my favorite portrayal of supergirl/kara danvers is the one from the children's cartoon dc super hero girls 2019, whose version of kara is ALSO lazy, on top of being an aggressive, quick-to-anger, rude, irresponsible, selfish brat. and she's hilarious in that show, she's one of my favorite characters. another favorite character of mine, also a children's cartoon character, is anne boonchuy from amphibia, whose entire character journey is about learning not to be physically, intellectually, or morally lazy and learning to [school principal voice] Apply Herself instead. it can be incredibly fun to watch characters be lazy and incurious and self-centered, whether they change for the better or not. but it is a bit strange that some people act like kara is this super disciplined person who loves working out and loves learning and reads widely and is curious about everything and self-reflects on her own decisions and how she affects others to the point of obsession. i wonder if part of it is 'femslash same-character syndrome,' where people slap other characters' traits from other popular femslash ships onto each other. because the character i just described is adora from she-ra. who a lot of people think is similar to kara. except no. she's not at all. as evidenced by this whole write-up ☝️ lol. they're just both blonde and for some reason (#blondephobia?) femslash fandoms wanna act like all blonde girlies are the same. but they are not. #wakeupamerica.....
#so anyway that's my extremely correct yet mysteriously unpopular opinion 😁 read it and weep.....#up up and away#sideguitars

Nasal COVID-19 vaccine halts transmission - Published July 31, 2024
Study in hamsters indicates vaccines targeting nose, mouth may be key to controlling spread of respiratory infections
A nasal COVID-19 vaccine blocks transmission of the virus, according to an animal study by researchers at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. The findings suggest that vaccines delivered directly to the nose or mouth could play a critical role in containing the spread of respiratory infections.
The lightning-fast development of COVID-19 vaccines just months after the virus appeared was a triumph of modern science and saved millions of lives. But for all the good they did in reducing illnesses and deaths, the shots were unable to end the pandemic because of one notable weakness: They couldn’t stop the spread of the virus.
A new study by researchers at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis indicates that next-generation vaccines that target the virus’s points of entry — the nose and mouth — may be able to do what traditional shots cannot: contain the spread of respiratory infections and prevent transmission. Using a nasal COVID-19 vaccine based on Washington University technology, approved for use in India and licensed to Ocugen for further development in the U.S., the researchers showed that vaccinated hamsters that developed infections did not pass the virus on to others, breaking the cycle of transmission. In contrast, an approved COVID-19 vaccine that is injected failed to prevent the spread of the virus.
The findings, published July 31 in Science Advances, provide further evidence that so-called mucosal vaccines sprayed into the nose or dropped into the mouth may be the key to controlling respiratory infections such as influenza and COVID-19 that continue to circulate and cause significant illness and death.
“To prevent transmission, you need to keep the amount of virus in the upper airways low,” said senior author Jacco Boon, PhD, a professor of medicine, of molecular microbiology and of pathology & immunology. “The less virus that is there to begin with, the less likely you are to infect someone else if you cough or sneeze or even just breathe on them. This study shows that mucosal vaccines are superior to injected vaccines in terms of limiting viral replication in the upper airways and preventing spread to the next individual. In an epidemic or pandemic situation, this is the kind of vaccine you’re going to want.”
Developing vaccines that can control virus levels in the nose has proven challenging. Viruses such as influenza virus, SARS-CoV-2 (the virus that causes COVID-19) and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) multiply rapidly in the nose and spread from person to person within a few days of initial exposure. Traditional injectable vaccines generate immune responses that can take a week to build to full strength and are much less potent in the nose than in the bloodstream, leaving the nose relatively unprotected against a fast-multiplying, fast-spreading virus.
In principle, a vaccine sprayed or dropped directly into the nose or mouth could limit viral reproduction and thereby reduce transmission by eliciting an immune response right where it’s needed most. But gathering evidence that mucosal vaccines actually do reduce transmission has proven tricky. Animal models of transmission are not well-established, and tracking person-to-person transmission is fiendishly complicated, given the number and variety of encounters a typical person has on any given day.
For this study, Boon and colleagues developed and validated a model for community transmission using hamsters and then used it to assess the effect of mucosal vaccination on the spread of SARS-CoV-2. (Unlike mice, hamsters are naturally susceptible to infection with SARS-CoV-2, making them the ideal laboratory animals for a transmission study.)
The researchers immunized groups of hamsters with laboratory versions of approved COVID-19 vaccines: the nasal iNCOVACC used in India or the injected Pfizer vaccine. For comparison, some hamsters were not immunized. After giving the vaccinated hamsters a few weeks for their immune responses to fully mature, the researchers infected other hamsters with SARS-CoV-2 and then placed the immunized hamsters with the infected hamsters for eight hours. This first step of the experiment mimics the experience of vaccinated people who are exposed to a person with COVID-19.
After spending eight hours rubbing shoulders with infected hamsters, most of the vaccinated animals became infected. Virus was found in the noses and lungs of 12 of 14 (86%) hamsters that had received the nasal vaccine, and 15 of 16 (94%) hamsters that had received the injected vaccine. Importantly, while most animals in both groups were infected, they weren’t infected to the same degree. Hamsters that had been nasally immunized had virus levels in the airways 100 to 100,000 times lower than those that had received the shot or had not been vaccinated. The study did not assess the animals’ health, but previous studies have shown that both vaccines reduce the likelihood of severe illness and death from COVID-19.
The second step of the experiment yielded even more striking results. The researchers took vaccinated hamsters that subsequently developed infections and placed them with healthy vaccinated and unvaccinated hamsters for eight hours to model transmission of virus from a vaccinated person to others.
None of the hamsters that were exposed to nasally vaccinated hamsters became infected, regardless of whether the recipient hamster had been vaccinated or not. In contrast, roughly half of the hamsters that were exposed to hamsters vaccinated by injection became infected — again, regardless of the recipient’s immunization status. In other words, vaccination through the nose — but not by injection — broke the cycle of transmission.
These data, Boon said, could be important as the world prepares for the possibility that avian influenza, currently causing an outbreak in dairy cows, might adapt to humans and trigger a flu epidemic. An injectable vaccine for avian influenza already exists, and a team of researchers at Washington University is working toward a nasal vaccine for avian influenza. That team includes Boon and co-author Michael S. Diamond, MD, PhD, the Herbert S. Gasser Professor of Medicine and one of the inventors of the nasal vaccine technology used in this paper.
“Mucosal vaccines are the future of vaccines for respiratory infections,” Boon said. “Historically, developing such vaccines has been challenging. There’s still so much we don’t know about the kind of immune response we need and how to elicit it. I think we’re going to see a lot of very exciting research in the next few years that could lead to big improvements in vaccines for respiratory infections.”

Excerpt from this Chicago Tribune story:
Thirty million acres of unprotected wetlands across the Upper Midwest, including 1 million acres in Illinois, are at risk of being destroyed largely by industrial agriculture — wetlands that provide nearly $23 billion in annual flood mitigation benefits, according to new research. In the long term, these wetlands could prevent hundreds of billions of dollars of flood damage in the region.
“Wetlands can help mitigate flooding and save our homes. They can help clean our water. They can capture and store carbon. They support hunting and recreation, and they support the commercial fishing industry by providing habitats for the majority of commercially harvested fish and shellfish,” said study author Stacy Woods, research director for the Food and Environment program at the Union of Concerned Scientists, a nationwide nonprofit science advocacy organization.
Last year, the U.S. Supreme Court stripped protections from freshwater and inland wetlands in its Sackett v. EPA ruling, allowing private property development in wetland areas that don’t have a “continuous surface connection” to permanent bodies of water.
But environmentalists say wetlands are rarely truly “isolated” from a watershed, no matter how inland they may be. Some experts worry that after President-elect Donald Trump takes office, he might roll back President Joe Biden’s effort to counter the Supreme Court ruling by expanding federal regulations of small bodies of water and wetlands under the Clean Water Act. Undoing those protections would leave control of wetlands up to the states, some of which — like Illinois — have no strong safeguards in place.
Half of the nation’s wetlands have disappeared since the 1780s, and urban development and agriculture in Illinois have destroyed as much as 90% of its original marshy, swampy land. Nowadays, its wetlands are vastly outnumbered by the 26.3 million acres of farmland that cover almost three-fourths of the state.
While urban and rural development and climate change disturbances contribute to the problem, the expansion of large-scale agriculture poses the biggest threat to wetlands, according to the study. Advocates see an opportunity in the next farm bill in Congress to support and encourage farmers to protect wetlands on their property.
A wetland is a natural sponge, said Paul Botts, president and executive director of The Wetlands Initiative, a Chicago-based nonprofit that designs, restores and creates wetlands.
By absorbing water from storms and flooding, wetlands can effectively reduce the risks and destructive effects of these disasters, which are intensifying and becoming more frequent because of a changing climate. Previous research estimated that 1 acre of lost wetland can cost $745 in annual flood damage to residential properties, an amount that taxpayers fund through local, state or federal assistance programs.

Why Black People Are Not a Serious People: A Garveyite Perspective
Introduction: The Crisis of Black Priorities
Marcus Garvey believed that Black people must take their destiny into their own hands to achieve true liberation. He famously stated:
“If you have no confidence in self, you are twice defeated in the race of life.”
Yet today, Black communities around the world remain politically weak, economically dependent, and socially disorganized. Despite having the talent, numbers, and resources to be a dominant global force, Black people:
Prioritize entertainment over education.
Focus on social integration rather than self-determination.
Spend wealth on consumer goods instead of wealth-building assets.
React emotionally to oppression rather than plan strategically for power.
From a Garveyite perspective, this lack of seriousness is not just an accident—it is the result of centuries of mental conditioning, systemic sabotage, and poor leadership. Until Black people take their future as seriously as other racial groups do, they will continue to be at the bottom of the global power structure.
1. Lack of Long-Term Vision and Strategic Thinking
A. Failure to Build Multi-Generational Wealth & Power
Black people often focus on short-term survival rather than long-term economic independence.
Other groups—Jews, Chinese, Indians—prioritize generational wealth, business ownership, and financial education, while Black people largely remain consumers.
Instead of buying land, businesses, and industries, Black communities spend billions on fashion, entertainment, and temporary luxuries.
If Black people were serious, they would invest in economic infrastructure rather than fueling white-owned corporations.
B. Emotional Reactions vs. Strategic Action
Black people often react to oppression with anger, protests, and hashtags rather than economic and political strategy.
Instead of organizing systematic boycotts, building independent political movements, or funding Pan-African initiatives, Black people wait for white approval and corporate sympathy.
Other groups use political lobbies, financial power, and institutional control to influence policies—Black people rely on moral arguments and symbolic victories.
Serious people understand that power is taken, not begged for.
2. Prioritization of Entertainment Over Education
A. Worship of Athletes & Entertainers Over Intellectuals & Business Leaders
Black people idolize rappers, athletes, and comedians while ignoring scientists, engineers, and economists.
Young Black children aspire to be entertainers rather than business owners or industrialists.
When entertainers do speak on serious issues, they are often uninformed and controlled by corporate sponsors.
If Black people were serious, they would celebrate intellectuals, inventors, and nation-builders as much as they do celebrities.
B. Disregard for Intellectual Development & Self-Improvement
Reading, studying, and research are not prioritized in many Black communities.
Schools in Black neighbourhoods are chronically underfunded, yet there is little organized effort to build independent schools.
Instead of spending time learning wealth strategies, global economics, or political science, Black people spend countless hours on gossip, social media debates, and entertainment.
Serious people master knowledge, control education, and build institutions.
3. Economic Irresponsibility & Consumer Mentality
A. Black Dollars Do Not Circulate in Black Communities
Black buying power exceeds $1.7 trillion in the U.S. alone, yet less than 5% of that money stays in Black businesses.
Many Black businesses struggle because Black people would rather shop at white-owned luxury brands than support their own.
Other groups—Asians, Jews, Arabs—spend money within their own communities before going outside.
If Black people were serious, they would circulate wealth among themselves rather than enriching other races.
B. Focus on Materialism Instead of Wealth-Building
Black people spend billions on designer clothing, jewellery, and foreign-owned liquor brands but fail to invest in stocks, real estate, or technology.
The hip-hop culture promotes flashy spending rather than financial discipline.
Many Black people believe that “looking rich” is more important than actually being rich.
Serious people build financial power before displaying wealth.
4. Political Naivety & Dependency on White Validation
A. Waiting for White Approval Instead of Building Independent Power
Black people rely on white politicians, celebrities, and corporations to fix their problems instead of organizing their own solutions.
Many believe that voting alone will solve oppression, despite history showing that political independence requires economic and institutional backing.
Black people celebrate token representation (Black faces in white spaces) rather than demanding systemic change.
If Black people were serious, they would fund their own political movements and demand real power, not just symbolic inclusion.
B. Divided by Ideology Instead of United by Common Interests
Black people remain divided by religion, nationality, skin tone, and political affiliations, while other races unite around shared interests.
African Americans, Afro-Caribbeans, and Africans often fail to collaborate for collective progress.
The media encourages gender wars, generational conflicts, and social divisions that prevent Black people from forming a united front.
Serious people put their differences aside and work toward collective empowerment.
5. Cultural and Spiritual Disconnection from African Roots
A. Worship of White Religious Imagery & Submission to Foreign Beliefs
Many Black churches still display white Jesus, reinforcing subconscious racial inferiority.
Black Muslims often prioritize Arab culture over African identity.
Traditional African spiritual systems, which empowered revolutions like the Haitian Revolution, are demonized as "pagan" or "evil."
Serious people embrace their own cultural and spiritual heritage, not that of their oppressors.
B. Lack of Pan-African Unity & Cooperation
Instead of building economic and political alliances between Africa and the diaspora, Black people remain disconnected.
Many Africans look down on Black Americans, while many Black Americans see Africa as irrelevant.
Other racial groups—such as the Chinese and Indians—build global economic networks, while Black people remain scattered and isolated.
Serious people unite globally and control their own destiny.
The Garveyite Solution: How Black People Can Become a Serious Race
1. Develop Long-Term Vision & Strategy
Shift from short-term gratification to long-term wealth-building.
Build institutions that will last generations.
Teach children about business, politics, and global strategy.
2. Prioritize Education & Intellectual Development
Fund independent Black schools and universities.
Encourage STEM fields, economics, and entrepreneurship.
Read, study, and master global power structures.
3. Control Black Wealth & Economic Power
Stop unnecessary spending on non-Black businesses.
Invest in land, technology, and industrial production.
Establish global trade networks between Africa and the diaspora.
4. Build Independent Political & Military Power
Create Black-funded political parties and candidates.
Support Pan-African leadership over Western-backed politicians.
Establish Black-controlled security forces to protect Black communities.
5. Reconnect with African Culture & Spirituality
Reject white supremacist religious imagery.
Restore African-centered faith systems that promote self-reliance.
Strengthen cultural pride and identity.
Conclusion: It’s Time to Get Serious or Stay Enslaved
Garvey warned us that Black liberation requires discipline, organization, and self-reliance. If Black people continue to:
Ignore financial responsibility.
Prioritize entertainment over education.
Wait for white approval.

Flashback (1992)
Commodore Amiga
Flashback, released as Flashback: The Quest for Identity in the United States, is a 1992 science fiction cinematic platform game developed by Delphine Software of France. It was published by U.S. Gold in the United States and Europe and by Sunsoft in Japan.
A successor of sorts to the equally brilliant Another World, Flashback might look at first glance to be your typical 2D platformer. Still, it skillfully blends cinematic scenes with reflex-testing action to create one of the most memorable pixel graphics games of all time.
While it would find global fame on consoles (and director Paul Cuisset has been quoted as saying the Mega Drive version is the best), the Amiga version is where Flashback made its initial impact; this is effortlessly one of the finest games on Commodore Amiga.

^ Early Life and Education
Elara Carson was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on April 08, 2001. She has an older brother. She is fluent in English and Malay, and has conversational proficiency in Korean, Mandarin, Arabic and Portuguese. At the age of 18, she moved to China to attend Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT) through a transfer program affiliated with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where she was previously enrolled as a Computer Science and Engineering major. In early 2020, following the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, she temporarily relocated to South Korea due to her acquaintance with members of the South Korean boy group Seventeen.
She later resumed her education, graduating with a CSE degree from MIT and enrolling in Seoul National University for graduate studies in computer engineering.
-
^ Career
Pre-Debut and SEVENTEEN
Elara became acquainted with Seventeen in mid to late 2019 while still a non-celebrity. Her musical talents and creative vision were accidentally recognized by the group and their team, leading to off camera performances. After a period of informal involvement and initially appearing in behind the scenes of web content like Going Seventeen, performances and special digital collaborations, in 2020, Elara officially debuted as a member of the South Korean boy group Seventeen with the extended play Semicolon on October 19, under the stage name Lee Eunseo, a Korean name given to her by the group, after excessive support/demand from fans for her to join the group.
As Seventeen’s 14th member, she contributed to songwriting, vocal arrangements, and storytelling aspects of the group's releases. Her presence brought a unique dimension to the group’s dynamics, noted for her warm but sharp stage presence, vocal tone, lyricism, and contributions to the group's conceptual direction.
2023–present: Solo Projects and Public Recognition
In 2023, Elara released her first solo single "Too Nice." Elara participated in the overall production process of the song, including lyrics and performance.
In 2023, Elara and her bandmates Joshua and Hoshi were cast in TVING's reality show Bro and Marble in Dubai alongside Yoo Yeon-seok, Lee Dong-hwi, Kyuhyun, Jee Seok-jin, Jo Se-ho and Lee Seung-gi. ^ Public image
Elara Carson has been praised for her versatility, intellect, and relatability as both a performer and public figure. Known for balancing her career in the entertainment industry with her academic background, she is often cited as a role model for young women navigating STEM and creative fields simultaneously. Media outlets in South Korea and internationally have referred to her as a "new-generation icon" for her ability to shift seamlessly between idol schedules and solo projects, including academic presentations and panels.
Her interest in global issues, such as mental health, sustainability, and education, have furthered her appeal among older and younger fans alike. She is frequently noted for her humility, introspection and wits during interviews, as well as her fluency in multiple languages, which enables her to connect with a wide global audience.
She is admired for her position as both a former fan and now an idol herself. Having been an avid K-pop fan before debuting, she frequently references fan culture in interviews and variety shows, often joking that she can predict fan behavior because she ‘knows both sides now.’ Her playful remarks have led fans to joke that “nothing escapes” her, prompting memes and edits warning fellow fans to stay alert around her. This relatable yet elusive duality has become a defining part of her public image.
Despite her relatively low social media presence compared to other idols, Elara is known for engaging in interactions during live broadcasts and fan meets. Her close bond with the members of Seventeen has also gained public attention, with fans appreciating the mutual respect and care displayed among them.
She is often affectionately compared to Seventeen’s so-called “evil twins,” Jeonghan and Joshua, known for their mischievousness and unexpected teamworks, making them the, “evil trio.” While publicly soft-spoken and sweet, she has shown flashes of humor and sarcasm, especially in behind-the-scenes content and variety appearances, leading fans to dub her the “silent trickster” of the group. Much like Seventeen’s Jeonghan, whom she’s often grouped with as an unofficial “menace duo.” This dynamic has become a fan-favorite trope, further cementing her as an entertaining and unpredictable presence in Seventeen. Elara is also fondly called “Mini Moon” and “Bunny Angel.”
Elara is widely recognized for her unwavering admiration for BTS, whom she has cited as her "emotional compass" and artistic inspiration since her early teens. Her genuine, long-standing support for the group has endeared her to ARMYs and Carats alike. This has led to the hybrid fan nickname “ARMY’s Princess”, for her loyalty and dedication to BTS.
-
^ Personal Life
Though private by nature, Elara has shared her struggles with sleep anxiety, academic pressure, and cultural identity. She speaks openly about mental health, and the balance between fame and self-worth. Known for her strong bond with Seventeen members, she often credits them for giving her the Korean name "Lee Eunseo" and helping her find a sense of family and belonging.

The New Yorker :: @NewYorker [An advance look at Barry Blitt’s “Left to Their Own Devices,” the cover for next week’s issue.]

LETTERS FROM AN AMERICAN
March 28, 2025
Heather Cox Richardson
Mar 29, 2025
“Another wipeout walloped Wall Street Friday,” Stan Choe of the Associated Press wrote today. The S&P 500 had one of its worst days in two years, dropping 2%. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 715 points, losing 1.7% of its value. The Nasdaq Composite fell 2.7%. On Tuesday, news dropped that the administration’s blanket firings and wildly shifting tariff policies have dropped consumer confidence to a low it has not hit since January 2021. Today’s stock market tumble started after the Commerce Department released data showing that consumer prices are rising faster than economists expected.
AIG chief international economist James Knightley said: “We are moving in the wrong direction and the concern is that tariffs threaten higher prices, which means the inflation prints are going to remain hot.” Business leaders like lower interest rates, which reduce borrowing costs and make it cheaper to finance business initiatives, but with rising inflation, the Federal Reserve will be less likely to cut interest rates.
Makena Kelly of Wired reported today that billionaire Elon Musk’s “Department of Government Efficiency” (DOGE) is planning to move the computer system of the Social Security Administration (SSA) off the old programming language it uses, COBOL, to a new system. In 2017, the SSA estimated that such a migration would take about five years. DOGE is planning for the migration to take just a few months, using artificial intelligence to complete the change.
Experts have expressed concern. Dan Hon, who runs a technology strategy company that helps the government modernize its services, told Kelly: “If you weren’t worried about a whole bunch of people not getting benefits or getting the wrong benefits, or getting the wrong entitlements, or having to wait ages, then sure go ahead.” More than 65 million Americans currently receive Social Security benefits. Today Representative Don Beyer (D-VA) recorded himself calling the SSA and being told by a recording that the wait times were more than two hours and that he should call back. And then the system hung up on him.
Musk told the Fox News Channel today that he plans to step down from DOGE in May, apparently at the end of the 130-day cap for the “special government employee” designation that enables him to avoid financial disclosures. In February, White House staffers suggested Musk would stay despite the limit.
Today the State Department told Congress it is shutting down the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) altogether by July 1. Whatever agency functions the administration approves will move into the State Department. Founded by President John F. Kennedy and enjoying bipartisan support, USAID administers programs for global health, disaster relief, long-term economic development, education, environmental protection, and democracy. It is widely perceived to be a key element of U.S. “soft power.”
USAID was created by Congress, and its funds are appropriated by Congress. Congress and the courts have established that the executive branch—the branch of government overseen by the president—cannot kill an agency Congress has created and cannot withhold appropriations Congress has made. The authors of Project 2025 want to challenge that principle and consolidate government power in the hands of the president. It appears they have chosen USAID as the test case.
As Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy Jr. shatters science and health agencies, the nation’s top vaccine regulator, Dr. Peter Marks, submitted his resignation today after being given the choice to resign or be fired. Dan Diamond of the Washington Post noted that Marks has been at the Food and Drug Administration since 2012 and has been at the head of the Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research since 2016.
In his resignation letter, Diamond says, Marks expressed his deep concern over the ongoing measles outbreak in the Southwest—now more than 450 cases—and warned that the outbreak “reminds us of what happens when confidence in well-established science underlying public health and well-being is undermined.” Marks said that although he was willing to work with Kennedy on his plan to review vaccine safety, “it has become clear that truth and transparency are not desired by the Secretary, but rather he wishes subservient confirmation of his misinformation and lies.”
On Tuesday, news broke that Kennedy has tapped anti-vaccine activist David Geier to lead a study looking to link autism to vaccines, although that alleged link has been heavily studied and thoroughly debunked. Infectious disease journalist Helen Branswell notes that Geier does not have a medical degree and was disciplined in Maryland for practicing medicine without a license.
British investigative journalist Brian Deer, who has written about the hoax that vaccines cause autism, told Branswell: “If you want an independent source,… [you] wouldn’t go to somebody with no qualifications and a long track record of impropriety and incompetence.” But, he said, “[i]f you wanted to get in anybody off the street who would come up with the result that Kennedy would like to see, this would be your man.”
Tara Copp of the Associated Press reported today that Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth has done some targeted staffing, too. His younger brother Phil Hegseth is traveling to the Indo-Pacific with the secretary in his role at the Pentagon as a liaison and senior advisor to the Department of Homeland Security. Hegseth also employed his brother when he ran the nonprofit Concerned Veterans for America, where the younger Hegseth’s salary was $108,000 for his media work. Copp notes that a 1967 law “prohibits government officials from hiring, promoting or recommending relatives to any civilian position over which they exercise control.”
Hegseth and his colleagues are still in the hot seat for uploading the military’s attack plans against the Houthis in Yemen to Signal, an unsecure commercially available messaging app. Yesterday, Nancy A. Youssef, Alexander Ward, and Michael R. Gordon of the Wall Street Journal reported that National Security Advisor Mike Waltz identified a Houthi missile expert whose identity Israel had provided from a human source in Yemen, angering Israeli officials.
Americans, especially those with ties to the military, aren’t happy either. Military, the leading news website for service members, veterans, and their families, titled a story about the scandal “‘Different spanks for different ranks’: Hegseth’s Signal scandal would put regular troops in the brig.” Helene Cooper and Eric Schmitt of the New York Times reported that the story had “angered and bewildered” fighter pilots, who say “they can no longer be certain that the Pentagon is focused on their safety when they strap into cockpits.”
At a raucous town hall held today by Republican representative Victoria Spartz (R-IN), the crowd booed Spartz loudly when she said she would not call for the resignations of Waltz, Hegseth, and the rest of the people on the group chat.
All the mayhem created by the administration has created enough backlash that the White House appears concerned about upcoming special elections on April 1. One is for the seat in Florida’s District 6 that Waltz vacated when he became national security advisor. In 2024, Trump won that district by 30 points, and Republicans considered their candidate, state senator Randy Fine, whom Trump has strongly endorsed, to be such a shoo-in that he barely campaigned. His website features pictures of him with Trump but has only bullet points to explain his stand on issues.
Democrat Josh Weil, a middle-school math teacher who has outraised Fine by almost 10 to one, is polling within the margin of error for a victory in a contest where even a 10- to 15-point loss would show a dramatic collapse in Republican support. Weil has tied Fine to Musk’s unpopular DOGE and to the president, as well as to cuts to Social Security and Medicaid.
Trump is now personally campaigning for Fine and for the Republican candidate to fill the seat vacated by former representative Matt Gaetz in Florida District 1. There, Democratic candidate Gay Valimont is running against Republican Jimmy Patronis in a district that elected Trump with about 68% of the vote. Like Fine, Patronis is strongly backed by Trump and wants more cuts to the federal government; Gay is a former state leader for Moms Demand Action and focuses on healthcare and veterans’ services. She has criticized DOGE’s cuts to VA hospitals. Like Weil, she has significantly outraised her opponent.
Republicans are concerned enough about holding the seats that billionaire Elon Musk, who poured more than $291 million into the 2024 election to help Republicans, has begun to contribute to Republicans in Florida. On Tuesday he spent more than $10,000 apiece for texting services for the Florida candidates.
Musk has contributed far more than that—more than $20 million—to the April 1 election for a ten-year seat on the Wisconsin Supreme Court. Trump loyalist Brad Schimel is running against circuit court judge Susan Crawford in a contest that has national significance. Wisconsin is evenly split between the parties, but when Republicans control the legislature and the supreme court, they suppress voting and heavily gerrymander the state in their favor. When liberals hold the majority on the court, they ease election rules and uphold fair maps. Currently, the state gerrymander gives Republicans 75% of the state’s seats in the U.S. House of Representatives although voting in 2024 was virtually dead even. The makeup of the court could well determine the congressional districts of Wisconsin through 2041, through the redistricting that will take place after the 2030 census.
Musk has told voters that if Crawford wins, “then the Democrats will attempt to redraw the districts and cause Wisconsin to lose two Republican seats.” Not only has Musk said he is going to Wisconsin to speak before the election, but also he is handing out checks to voters who sign a petition against “activist judges,” a suggestion that it would not be fair to unskew the Republican gerrymander. Last night, Musk advertised a contest that would award two voters a million dollars each, with the condition that the winners had to have already voted.
This morning, Wisconsin Democrats issued a press release noting that Musk had “committed a blatant felony,” directly violating the Wisconsin law that prohibits offering anyone anything worth more than $1 to get them to “vote or refrain from voting.” Wisconsin Democratic Party chair Ben Wikler said that if Schimel “does not immediately call on Musk to end this criminal activity, we can only assume he is complicit.”
Musk deleted the tweet and then, eliminating the language that said people had to have voted, posted that he would give the checks to spokespeople for his petition. Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul sued to stop Musk “from any further promotion of the million-dollar gifts” and “from making any payments to Wisconsin electors to vote.” “The Wisconsin Department of Justice is committed to ensuring that elections in Wisconsin are safe, secure, free, and fair,” Kaul said in a statement. “We are aware of the offer recently posted by Elon Musk to award a million dollars to two people at an event in Wisconsin this weekend. Based on our understanding of applicable Wisconsin law, we intend to take legal action today to seek a court order to stop this from happening.”
MeidasTouch reposted Musk’s offer to “personally hand over two checks for a million dollars each in appreciation for you taking the time to vote” and noted: “No matter what side of the aisle you are on, you should be appalled that a billionaire thinks he has the right to buy elections like this.” Former chair of the Ohio Democratic Party David Pepper posted: “Have some pride, America. We are so much better than this guy thinks we are.”

President Trump has switched up his pick for U.S. Surgeon General tapping best-selling author and wellness influencer Dr. Casey Means in place of his initial pick, former Fox News contributor Dr. Janette Nesheiwat.
Nesheiwat withdrew her nomination following scrutiny over how she had represented her medical credentials.
In an announcement on Truth Social, Trump said that Means "will work closely with our wonderful Secretary of Health and Human Services, Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., to ensure a successful implementation of our Agenda in order to reverse the Chronic Disease Epidemic, and ensure Great Health, in the future, for ALL Americans."
Dr. Means has catapulted into the MAHA sphere over the past year, alongside her brother Calley Means, a prominent advisor to Sec. Kennedy following the publication of their book Good Energy.
Shots - Health News
In 'Good Energy,' a doctor lays out how to measure and boost your metabolic health
Both siblings often rail against the influence of the pharmaceutical and food industries in their many appearances on podcasts and other platforms.
In their book, Casey Means describes how she became disillusioned with medicine's failure to adequately address the most pressing causes of chronic illness in the country, including diet and lack of movement.
After attending Stanford Medical School, Means pursued a surgical residency at Oregon Health & Science University but dropped out before completing the program. She went on to start a functional medicine practice and founded the company Levels, which offers consumers continuous glucose monitors and an app to track their blood sugar.
Her website also markets various supplements and personal products.
