It’s CHILLY and wet out there. After running around in the wind and rain earlier and getting soaked, I set up my office right here next to the fire this afternoon. As you saw in my post the other day, I was supposed to be in Napa with @sksappliances and @modenus at the #sksedcnapa but the fluke weather no out west meant a no go for this huge group that was traveling from all over the country. So here I am, and now there’s a nor’easter here, for real. Wow, can’t Mother Nature take a nap or a time out or something?! PS If you like my pillows, you can find something similar @unexpecteddesigns. Great stuff over there! #CKdesignninja #sksxdesignhounds (at Little Boars Head, New Hampshire) https://www.instagram.com/p/CVgnO5jMeh0/?utm_medium=tumblr

Something I’m thankful for: social media. Especially in a time of real life isolation, the connections on social media help. It could be business building mastermind groups or networking with vendors, looking at pretty things or political and social activism, laughing with friends or finding new small businesses to support. Just like this super cool shop @unexpecteddesigns that I connected with on Instagram. (One reason I like her is, unlike my kids, she says I’m funny and make her laugh.) But seriously speaking, owner Dawn Robbins sells high quality handmade goods from artisans she’s met in her travels. You can see a lot of global inspiration on her page. Some of her beautiful pieces have made their way into fab design projects like @marydouglasdrysdale’s recent work in the @aspiredesignandhome show house in McLean VA. I got two of these silk velvet ikat pillows recently and they look so good on my velvet swivel chairs, don’t you think? The ikat fabric was made on small looms in Uzbekistan and the pillows were constructed in Turkey. At some point they made their way to her in Tennessee and then on to me in New Hampshire. I think they’re here to stay awhile. Without social media I never would have discovered this shop. I wish more small shop owners could appreciate the power of the internet! Especially in these pandemic times. So yes, remember to shop small, but shop social to support these businesses across the globe. Also, these pillows are so cool, there’s a completely different fabric on the backside but I’ll save that view for another day! #CKdesignninja (at North Hampton, New Hampshire) https://www.instagram.com/p/CH-qtxQJpfA/?igshid=8o5qct4b5ex1
