In a 2020 demo reel from Hong Kong based company Simage Animation and Media Ltd, a mysterious animation has surfaced featuring Astro Boy and Tezuka Star System characters, including Atom, Pluto, Son Goku (My Songoku, not the Dragon Ball character), Rock Holmes, Hosuke Sharaku, Hyakkimaru, Unico, Ambassador Magma, Shunsaku Ban, Siddhartha (Tezuka's Buddha), Triton, Big X, and Princess Sapphire.

The animation depicts Atom and other Tezuka Star System protagonists battling Pluto in a fictional Japanese city.

The purpose of the animation is unknown. It does not appear to have any connection to Astro Boy Reboot or Team Phoenix (which was released after this animation was made).

Amazing,even! Eepsically related to memory loss struggles.

If you're unaware, Unico's backstory is that he is a silly unicorn who can help spread joy to those who need it, however the gods did not like this. And as a result, everytime he does something good and completes the task he was sent to a place for, he forgets his memories via magic to keep him safe from those gods and to bring him to a new place to help others.

Doesn't this feel familiar? Not being able to remember your good deeds and randomly forgetting them? Of course, Unico doesn't regain his memory back, unlike the all to common "forget and remember it later" we deal with in real life, but he really resingiates with us due to his extreme memory loss and the gods constantly nagging after him.

Oh... my sweet Unico. :(

Summary:

UNICO tells the incredible story of a young unicorn who, after enraging the evil goddess Venus, is banished from the heavens and forgets all he once was. Saved from oblivion by the kindhearted West Wind, Unico continues to help others, before having to escape Venus again and begin a new adventure.

I finished reading this on December 17th, but since it was a free copy send out before official publishing to bookshops I had to keep quiet about it.

My thoughts:

I enjoyed reading Unico a lot. It was a sweet but sad story with strong characters (good and evil) and a coherent plot.

Unico is a really sweet little Unicorn, Chloe is a little mischievous but also really enjoyable as a character. I liked Toast the most, though. This little cat without any powers or magical friends did his very best to protect the whole forest from Byron, who shoots animals just for sport.

When I read "Tezuka" as one of the authors, it didn't click for me that this was the Tezuka - the one who also made Black Jack, Astro Boy and Kimba. Only when I finished this Comic (Manga?) and read the about the authors pages I recognized him. To be fair on me, I did think about him at first, but I am only familiar with him through Black Jack (which I didn't even really watch or read), so eh.

I will absolutely get the second Volume upon release!

The 2025 Osamu Tezuka calendar is listed with it's cover art on the website for the Japanese company, Rakuten.

The cover art follows a snake theme with 2025 being the Year of the Snake in the Chinese zodiac.

This calendar is set to release in September 2024.

My stuff just arrived today.

Got more stuff from Buyee and now I'm broke lol. The person from Mercari who send me the Black Jack Bicycle cards as kind to send me the poster from the expo, thank you, I will hang this on my wall.

Initially I was just going to get the Bicycle cards but I saw the Rock statue with a low price and I had to get it.

I'm going to scan what I can later/another day, I have to find a way to clean my scanner, there is some annoying dust on it that don't go away when I can my stuff.
