Emma didn't get out of the jet right away, picking up some of the stuff there with her partner - literal partner, Bryce had been in the CIA longer than she had, and was playing the part of the lowly grunt. Lucky him. Todd, meanwhile, was welcoming the drug dealers he had called for his special orders with the usual enthusiasm, and he was terrifying. The way he skipped from agitated and eager to finish 'his mission' to angry and menacing was already disturbing without adding in the fact that he was working on a bioweapon meant to obliterate the 'impure'. But he had taken a liking on her, even listening to her, trying to please her, and that meant they had a shot at finding all the hiding spots in the city, as long as they slowed down the process. Which also meant somehow making him distrust the drug dealers.

"Anna, come!" he called, Emma's alias, and she got out of the jet, eyes taking in the guys, who looked as uncomfortable as one would expect when in the presence of a fanatic, and then flickering back to the girl she had nearly missed. It had been a few months since she had gone away full time, after a few meetings with Todd that had allowed her to keep in touch with people in the precinct, so this was the first time in months that she saw Lucy. Here, near the bio waste and the crazy guy who couldn't wait to make it bigger. Lucy was here. She controlled her reaction enough not to show surprise, just mild interest, but her heart felt like about to explode out of her chest. What the hell was she doing there? Was she undercover too? Surely it was about the drugs and not about Todd, no way general Beckman had involved the police without warning nor reason. No way they'd send Lucy to Todd. "This is my Anna," Todd introduced her, "Anna, they want the money, take care of it." "Sure, after I see the product and decide if it's good enough or if they are trying to screw us over. You are new," she addressed Lucy, needing to establish some kind of contact, hand resting on her holster. "Who are you? What do you do?"

Utmv modern city au, but it's the normal multi verse with modern things like a public transit for Au hopping and being able to make your own portals is the equivalent of a car and you can deck out your portals like you could decorate a car. The phones are more obvious, but instead of sci there's a legit multi verse hospital and they hate to see the bad sans or stars coming through. More internet focused with Error lurking undernovela forums to immediately pounce on anyone who's clearly wrong about the show. Farm tale is rich as hell because they provide for the multi verse cafes and restaurants. Ink is a food blogger when he remembers to. Blue works part time at a simple little library but half the time the bad sans accidentally reck it, they're incredibly sorry every time and Nightmare uses connections to help rebuild it. Nightmare for some reason knowing the owner of any place ever?? And casual ties to whoever is attempting to govern the multi verse at any given time. They keep trying to form some government but it's like the Avengers keep crashing in every 5 minutes and any government falls apart shortly thereafter. Nightmare ran for government undercover and won until people found out who he was. Killer loves Ren faires for the sword booths. Error is found at every single craft convention ever and is wearing more and more elaborate cosplay to avoid Ink. Ink follows Errors social on a secret account and always knows which con he's at. Horror loves trying out new foods with the gang and has become a good food critic. Literally just their norm lives and universe but with modern city additions.

Okay, so here's a primer I found on how ethnicity works (legally speaking) in China.

I don't know when this system was implemented, but I'm going to use it for the Mosuo!Madam Lan verse, especially modern AUs because I am playing in a mainland Chinese person's sandbox.

So, for that verse:

Madam Lan's name is currently Ghaezzi Yijie (family name first) and she is a rogue cultivator from a Mosuo clan. She is Mosuo and Qingheng-jun is Han. She would have chosen Mosuo ethnicity for her sons because she would want them to be connected to her family and because surnames come from the mother in her culture, why not ethnicity, too? But since they were raised so divorced from Mosuo culture, they would describe themselves as Han, not Mosuo and not mixed.

I am ALSO playing with a version where Madam Lan is Yan Changyu (阎常玉) and it was her father who came from a Mosuo clan and married into her mother's clan, bringing a few friends and cousins with him. In which case, the opposite is true for her. She was raised as Han by her parents, but later self-identified as Mosuo. This doesn't change that she would consider her sons Mosuo and they would later self-identify as Han, but it does change that the surname for their "Mosuo names" would be the Mandarin surname Yan, and she would provide them with her own transcriptions of Erchei and Gesso instead of relying on Qiren's.

So instead of 儿綝 érchēn ("kindhearted son"), Xichen would be 爾綝 ěrchēn ("luxuriant growth of a kindhearted flower"), and he would be Yan Erchen - 阎爾綝.

And Wangji, instead of being 搁走 gézǒu ("endure leaving"), would be 隔俗 gésú ("at a distance from convention/the secular"). And he, too, would be Yan Gesu - 阎隔俗.

And they wouldn't really use these names except in private with each other, to express urgency to each other, or when they need to go undercover (like when Xichen was hiding out with Meng Yao or in AUs of this AU where Madam Lan takes her kids and runs).

My June Reads

Storygraph introduced auto-generated graphics for sharing our reads by the month, which makes it much easier to do a review, and here I am! Sorry it's kinda pixelly, the settings on Storygraph aren't perfect yet but they're planning to add functionality.

I've been posting on the Duck Prints Press Book Lover's Server for a while, so everyone knows there that the answer to "how do you read so much?" is the library, but just to be clear, if it's a graphic novel, I got it from one of three libraries - either my local system, @queerliblib, or the Japan Foundation Library. The last two are both free-throughout-the-US Libby libraries and they've both been awesome.

Busiek was one of the big writers who inspired a LOT of EMH's characterization of hank and is one of the writers who really went in on the idea of treating Yellowjacket like a character with his own agency, wants and fears. It's by far the biggest display of the two personalities and their differences, and its no Secret that any time Busiek writes Yellowjacket he always gives the guy some more nuance; here is no different! It gives very fun insights into how he thinks, and what he thinks of the inevitable 'you must become hank pym' situation which I could write a whole damn essay about and have taken heavy inspiration for on why my hank and yellowjacket remain separate personalities. ]

[ AVENGERS VOLUME 3 ISSUES # 1-55 ;; oh hey its Busi- YES ITS HIM AGAIN SEE THE RAMBLE ABOVE! Jokes aside this run of Avengers deal with Hank as hes trying to find his footing again and rejoining the team as well as his guilt over his past mistakes. There's a lot done with his guilt over Ultron, how he feels about his own mind being his base and later on how he and Yellowjacket see each other because Yet Again these two boyos are separated entities that get to chat with each other showing a good display of Yellowjackets to be expected 'fuck around and find out' personality but also his self awareness of said personality and the damage it does. Lot of good insight into the boys and their perspectives just Dont Read anything Austen adds on when he enters because if you're wondering where 'wife beater angry man yellowjacket' gets a lot of his fire you can thank THIS GUY... ]

[ AVENGERS ACADEMY ERA ( 2010 ) ;; Weird arc with Greer Aside; Avengers Academy was a wonderful End Point to hanks longstanding healing arc over the years and puts him in a position to use his experience from said arc to help his students. Something the comic lets him SUCCEED IN as we're blatantly told that even with the slips and mistakes hank makes his students feel safe and loved, so much so that the joke of him being their dad becomes commonplace even Outside AA comics. He becomes a surrogate father to a lot of these kids which putting aside how funny that is to do with an ant themed character becoming a papa bear to his own little ant hill of kids is genuinely what I consider to be the peek of hanks multi-decade arc. ]

🗣️Talk about your favourite WIP

So truly it is that The Games by Quordle spin-off/continuation I'm writing like a poor girl's GRR Martin. I hit 20000 words and was so proud. Then stuck. I sit in the car and brainstorm scenes and cry to playlists. Then get home and get stuck lol. I get a paragraph or two in. I find something else missing and lose chunks.

I have never ever wrote a long piece of fanfic. I don't know what I'm doing. I love this idea to pieces and want to do justice to the original fic and and and...

This has encompassed my brain, this universe but for Fraser/Vecchio. I am too in love with the idea of them trapped in an alt dynamic, in their lives apart influencing and then meeting and then after original fic resolving if they can even to stay together, why the want and need never fades and is eternally them, and them being still them and still in love, but also warped horribly by having to survive a verse that is founded with rule and law that they still operate under, that they are still law officers in even if secret undercover, that says value of a person is dependant on class or ownership and sexual relationships are about using or tied to that. And then in a verse where they are the goddamn married couple and the unanswered undercurrent of how that works and what is that backstory well my brain is all let's explore them down to who runs the relationship and why and how.

📄What’s a WIP you never finished that you would like to go back and revisit?

It's too late but I once started a multi fic that was gonna cross-over Supernatural and Inuyasha. Or basically in season 3 with Dean on the hell-list, and the brothers hunting and hurting for a fix, they were gonna run into Kikyou. Who was long-story short explanation now in current era because Kagome and Inuyasha fucked up and didn't get rid of Naraku or the jewel with the final wish. Naraku ended up in present day. Inuyasha and team died in the past. Kagome died but not before a piece of her soul stayed so Kikyou could resurrect and come back hunting revenge part 2. Welcome to the modern era my girl. Kagome splintered the jewel again too. Across the world. And so Kikyou is avoiding Naraku and trying to gather it. And she was/is hunting Koga who has teamed up with werewolves in the states to make a pack. Who has lived through the eras miserable right. Who got back his jewel shards.

So she fights Koga. Almost loses. Decides she needs back-up. Bobby, Japanese nerd man, is her in and introduces her to Sam and Dean. Let's help each other. Get rid of my werewolves, I'll give you the secret to surviving death.

But like everyone is guarded. Dean doesn't want to be saved. Certainly not like how Kikyou is in surprise moment revealed to be living by still sucking souls. Don't they hunt monsters, not become them? And like yet her and Dean relate. Two people trying desperately to right things, were all about protecting and failed, and are/were both older siblings. Two people half-done in but can't quit the mission.

So they still finish the job and hunt Koga. Because living past prime or for nothing is Koga's deal and he doesn't get it's hell, he cant remake his pack or say turn Kikyou into Kagome, and it's a yay to put him out of misery end.

And it ends with her and Dean semi-agreeing, though Sam still can't accept, death is a freedom and peace. Hell is preferable to doomed life or loss, even if it's frightening. Mutatis  Mutandis  (Headmaster  Verse):  A  timestamp  verse  that  spans  the  series  of  Wolverine  and  the  X-Men,  where  Logan  is  the  headmaster  of  the  Jean  Grey  Institute  for  Higher  Learning.  In  this  time  period,  he  is  exclusively  dating  Ororo  Munroe. 

On  a  Pale  Horse  (Horseman  of  Death  AU):  A  Timestamp/Alternate  verse  for  the  time  period  where  Logan  was  brainwashed  into  being  one  of  Apocalypse’s  Four  Horsemen,  Death. 

Age  of  Apocalypse  Verse:  What  it  says  on  the  tin.  Logan  in  the  Age  of  Apocalypse  universe.  He’s  missing  one  hand  from  a  fight  (with  Cyclops)  to  free  Jean  Grey  from  Apocalypse’s  citadel.  He  and  Jean  are  in  a  committed  relationship,  both  while  operating  separately  from  the  X-Men  and  later,  once  they  are  reunited  after  Sinister’s  death

Blood  and  Bone  (Fatal  Attractions  Verse):  Timestamp  Verse  that  takes  place  after  the  X-Men  confront  Magneto  on  Asteroid  M  (X-Men  Vol  2,  #25)  and  Magneto  forcibly  rips  the  Adamantium  from  Wolverine’s  bones.  After  Logan  nearly  dies  and  they  return  to  earth,  he  discovers  that  his  claws  are  in  fact  Bone.  Stories  in  this  verse  will  follow  his  difficult  journey  to  manage  his  advancing  mutation  and  the  new  vulnerabilities  of  his  body  without  the  unbreakable  metal.

i really want a post-canon, maybe modern verse plot where an agent petty-like cop or fbi agent is undercover investigating someone that bj works in close contact with so they either hire bj or manipulate him into (what bj thinks is) a "nice" relationship with the purpose of trying to use him as a mole, but when bj inevitably says "fuck you, i'm not doing this", the agent digs up old dirt on him and bends his arm into doing what he says.

this would be more interesting, i think to play against a character like that, because i think writing out the toxicity would be a lot of fun, but it could be fun with innocent muses in bj's orbit too. maybe they get wrapped up in it somehow just by being nearby, maybe something goes wrong and bj has no choice but to manipulate them into helping him too. or maybe their only involvement is knowing something is Wrong and bj isn't willing to talk about it, and that creates friction in their relationship and ends up uprooting something important in their individual social circle.

that's all very first thinking, i'm super sleepy, but as much as i love watching bj heal, and that being, like, almost the entire point of making this blog lol, i also love dipping him back into old habits and old problems, and having the opportunity to play with bj the mole, bj the blackmailer, bj the pawn-in-some-bigger-scheme-he's-found-himself-ensnared-in... idk, there are other facets of his personality that i don't totally come out except in survival situations like that, and i think they're fun.

Personality: Seemingly extroverted, friendly, polite, and charming. Secretly, he is an anxious introvert. Like his sister Natalia, he is also very intelligent but is more cunning due to his life experiences. While bright enough to complete medical training, he decided to pursue other options in secret. He has a keen mind for strategy and thinking outside of the box and likes to play chess to stay sharp. Alex has been described as very slippery and always has an escape route in mind. He has no issues doing what needs to be done, no matter what. He will seduce, intimidate, kill, or bribe whoever he needs to. Like Nat, it is difficult to know what he really thinks of someone or something - this is in part due to his Russian culture.

 He’ll shift like a chameleon to whatever that person likes or dislikes. However, he knows himself better than he’d like to admit.  Despite this, he puts on a face to hide the deep anger, sadness, and pain he holds inside. He has a lot of self-loathing and tends to brood. In addition, he has extreme self-destructive tendencies. He loves his sister but feels very pressured to provide and be a good influence. However, he knows that he can’t be her knight in shining armor. If anything, she is a good influence on him. He can be a very sweet and loving person when he feels safe enough to do so. Secretly, he would like nothing more than to settle down, get married, and have children. -the Doctor, each regeneration brings something new to the table so I'd have threads in separate verses with ALL of them just to see how they interact? He could interact with princess Emma and have the ??? moment because she's a Disney character (parallel worlds blah blah) and a !!!!! moment because, you know, her timeline was rewritten and that's how the universe was born ? OR even with modern Emma who has completely lost her way as a vigilante (okay, not entirely, she's not going out there planning to kill, but still) though there I have less excuses why he would interact with her more than once since there is nothing to solve, unless he's lonely and notices she's messed up but kind? I say he but thirteen is included obviously! Can you tell I love the Doctor?

-you write Winn Schott, also known as mah boy, which I'll love forever, and here's the thing, if you don't find her backstory triggering modern Emma with the DC 'alien blood' twist is perfect for pretty much all modern fantasy/sci-fi shows, so yes, Winn, I love him
