Genshin Impact - Wrath of a God
The Tsaritsa tried to change the terms of their contract and thous awakened the wrath of the one god she absolutly shouldn't have angered....
. - . - . - . - . - . - . - . - . -
This was possibly the first time that Childe felt truly cold.
Not even kneeling at his Archons feet, on the freezing floor of the palace ever made him feel like this. `I was deceived. Used.´ It played like a broken record in his already messy mind and just wouldn’t leave.  He watched apathetic as Signoria took the Gnosis from Zhongli’s hand, watched her smirk and then laugh. Looked at the consultant that had played him like a fiddle, met those cor lapis eyes and wanted to fight something. It didn’t matter that the traveler had just beaten his sorry ass to celestia and back again, he wanted to hurt something, SOMEONE. He wanted to see and draw blood, needed the thrill of the battle to forget what had just happened.
Gloved hands clenched and he chuckled dryly Of course he was used. He, Tartaglia, was nothing more than a weapon, a tool, to be used on the wimps of the gods that ruled over them. That his own Archon, his beloved Tsaritsa would do this, he could live with. But Zhongli? The man he foolishly started to fall for? That hurt way more than it should and more than he was willing to admit. His eyes started to sting and he wanted out. Out of this building, out of this country, out of this goddamned nation!
He listened as Zhongli, no. As Morax explained his contract and what it entailed. Childe heard the words but they just wouldn’t register in his head. That’s when he’s had enough.
“What about me? Doesn’t anyone feel the least bit of remorse for deceiving me?!”
The ginger didn’t care about the adapti or even the Qixing. All he cared about was the man, no, the GOD that had befriended him with gentle smiles and pretty words only to betray him and all but trample all over his feelings.
Out of the two involved people, Signora took it upon herself to answer him. But as the first words left her devilish lips, he wished she hadn't. “A thanks would be more appropriate, wouldn’t you agree?” Then she looked straight at the, now former, archon. “You’ve played your part perfectly. Wrecking havoc and turning the city upside down.” Just to be an asshole she raised the small chess piece up to eye level, right in front of him. “The Lord of Geo ought to thank you for your performance.” He was seriously thinking about punching her, or firing a dozen arrows at her, or just take his blades and slice her up. Before he could decide tho, La Signora cut it short. “With the Gnosis in my possession, I have no need for this idle chatter. We should return to Zapolyarny Palace for an audience with her majesty.”
There was already an answer ready in his head, a last act of rebellion, before he could open his mouth though, Zhongli stepped in. “Haven’t you forgotten something, La Signora? There is still one part of the contract that needs to be fulfilled.”
The gods' words followed silence and the other harbinger suddenly looked a bit troubled. Glowing eyes slowly narrowed and his pale lips formed a firm line. As Tartaglia watched he just knew that something….wasn’t quite right? “Your Archon has already forgone one part of our contract. Are you really willing to risk another? Or……Has your dear Tsaritsa changed her mind?” Signora looked more and more troubled and clenched the fist that held the Geo Gnosis. With the former Archon in front of her she took a step back before answering him.
“Her majesty is…..not ready to give up on one of her own.”
Wait, what?
Dull ocean blue eyes snapped to his fellow harbinger and right after to the consultant that was clearly displeased. Cor Lapis' eyes started to glow, as well as the tips of his dark hair and Zhongli straightened his back even further. Like this, he was the picture of Liyue’s Archon. Regal, elegant and dominant without a match. Even with what happened Childe was transfixed. If he had to leave, and he did without a doubt, he wanted to take this image with him. But what the other male said next irked him somehow.
“You do realize that this means that our contract is broken. First: she withheld the information for the one she sent to me, misleading him and pushing all the guilt onto myself. Second: she refuses to hand over the prize for my Gnosis.”  Right at this moment the ginger was totally lost and yet had an inkling who the other was talking about. He must have made some kind of sound, for these glowing eyes landed on him, softening for a mere second before returning to the blonde woman.
At the time Zhongli told them all this La Signora started to retreat further. Her mission was to retrieve the Gnosis of Rex Lapis, nothing more. Of course she knew about her Majesty's contract with the mentioned Archon, but it was not in her place to ask for clarification or something similar. Her mission was complete. Now she just needed to grab her dumb coworker and get the hell out of here. She gripped the little chess piece tighter and tried her best to stand her ground against the oldest of the Seven. “It is on our Queen’s orders that we, her harbingers, are to return to her side. We’ve put your precious Liyue to the test and in exchange get your Gnosis. That is the contract that our Tsaritsa had with you-”
The more she spoke, the angrier Zhongli seemed to get. And when he finally took a single step forward, the whole ground shook, as if sensing its master's displeasure. And in one foolish moment Signora thought she could run only to be stopped by a geo steele that rose at Zhongli’s command. Childe, still on the sidelines, could only watch. This was a show of raw power, a reminder who exactly they were talking to. And the ginger was so damned turned on by this display of strength that it was almost embarrassing. Almost.
The female harbinger tried to attack the former Archon, another foolish decision on her part, only to watch her pyro attack get deflected by the others polearm. What followed was nothing but pure humiliation on the Fatui’s part. None of her moves hit, not the physical ones nor the elemental ones. And with every failed try, Zhongli closed in on her, right to the moment he stood right in front of her. His blazing eyes bore into her frightened one even if she tried to hide that fact. A sudden coldness licked at Tartaglia's gloved fingers and he knew that the 8th Harbinger was about to activate her very own Delusion only to be stopped in one swift movement.
Another steele stood behind La Signora and she herself was held by her throat against its smooth surface. Morax’ speed was more than her eye could handle and before she could call upon her cryo powers she was at this god's mercy.
Liquid heat surged through Childe’s body. He knew that Signora was strong. And to see this usually proud and arrogant woman put in her place? By none other than Zhongli, Morax, Rex Lapis? It did THINGS to him. Especially since the mentioned male only needed one hand to do so. When the god spoke again his voice echoed from all around them and the ginger haired male was glad he was already kneeling.
“It seems that you have forgotten just who I am, mortal. Just like your Queen.”
The hand around her throat tightened just a little fraction and the woman clawed helplessly at the unmoving limp.
“You may have my Gnosis. But I am still the God of contracts and the God of war and yet you think you have a chance against me in a fight? Insolence!”
He let go of her, only to kick her inside the wall on the left as if she was his polearm and not a grown adult. It made Childe itch for a fight of his own but knowing he would be denied.
Like this he was no longer the gentle and knowledgeable consultant of the Funeral Parlor, at this moment he was Morax, Rex Lapis, the oldest and the strongest of the Seven. Now he was the god that fought a bloody and cruel war and came out on top. The god that was as much revered as he was feared.
Emotionless as the element he controls he calls for his weapon, the polearm manifesting in his outstretched hand once again. The blade of the spear gleamed in the low light and Tartaglia could only shudder. “Whoever breaks a contract, no matter if mortal, Adapti or even an Archon, will face the wrath of the rock! And since you, La Signora, are here at your Queen’s behest, you shall be the one to receive the punishment.”
Without warning he thrust his weapon forward, impaling the still raging harbinger, making her scream and beg. “I’m only doing my Archons bidding! It was her decision to keep the boy in the dark! And it was also her decision to not hand him over!” Her voice was raw from pain and raspy from screaming, yet somehow still venomous.
At this the part of Childe’s brain that checked out came back online. And if he had any doubts at the beginning of this shitshow, he was now pretty sure they were talking about him. The Tsaritsa had sent him after all. And he had known that there was something that his Queen was not telling him. Just what exactly was this contract about? Other than the Gnosis of course. A low growl was heard and the ginger's heart sped up and he had to suppress a needy whine. If the other kept this shit up, Childe knew he would embarrass himself even further. “And yet, here you are. Trying to take my Gnosis, without my prize.”
He pulled his polearm back, letting the injured woman slumb to the still shaking ground. Said woman was glaring daggers at the god that stood before her, while clutching at her bloody wound. But she froze when Zhongli knelt on one knee and made to grab for his Gnosis. She tried, in vain, to pull her hand away only to feel something solid encircling her wrist. Looking down a cuff made of geo greeted her and she was powerless to stop the former Archon. While her hand was tied to the ground the dark haired male pried her gloved fingers open and took back his Gnosis. In a flash of orange light and a strong pulse of Geo energy the chess piece was gone from their sight and cold glowing eyes looked down at the fallen harbinger. “Run girl. Return to your Archon and fall at her feet. Tell her of your failure, with every little detail. And tell your Queen, the Tsaritsa, that our contract is null and void. If she tries to seek revenge, she can try. I will gladly remind her why I am the oldest of the Seven.”
And run she did.
Even as heavenly wounded as she was, Signora still had her pride. She may stumble along the way but she left with whatever dignity that survived. Watching her retreating back Childe was not sure what to think anymore. While still thinking about his next steps he didn’t notice the exchange between Zhongli and the absolutely floored traveler, only registering a change when dark shoes came into view. Looking up dull blue was met by concerned gold, the furrowed brows indicating that the other was worried and the twitching hands showing his uncertainty if his touch was welcome or not.
Deciding to spare the Archon in front of him and himself he just sighed, bending his head and slumping his shoulders. Before him stood a god and he was taught to bow before divinity. Before he could do just that, gentle fingers gripped his chin and pulled his face back up. “None of that now.” With the same gentleness he was pulled into a hug and then lifted up on strong arms. He wanted to protest, to fight, but he was exhausted and just rested his head on the other’s solid shoulder. He was pulled closer and a soothing voice whispered to him. “Rest. I will explain when you are awake again.”
It was absurd, but Childe closed his eyes. His aching body slowly fading into the background, just listening to the older ones breathing. Feeling safe for the first time in years the ginger let go and fell asleep in the arms of an Archon, that was not his own.

Cryptid of the Day: Wog
Description: Recounted in the 1914 book, “The Early History of Jackson County, Georgia”, GJN Wilson told of a wolf-like creature called the Wog. Described to be horse-sized, with a whip-like tail, an 8-inch forked tongue, and red eyes, it only came out at night to hunt its prey. It was also seen near a “mud volcano” in Winder, which is said to be a gateway to Hell.

Greek-Italian Aussie comedian. My comment: Maybe just call us "wog" instead when all the difference you see is "a big/crooked nose" or "hair", at least it's less pretentious 🤣
