Stuffing
Aloha kākou. My favorite side dish at Thanksgiving dinner is the turkey giblet stuffing. The stuffing must be cooked in the bird and not separately. Chefs always give advice on whether to stuff the bird or to cook stuffing separately. I prefer cooking the stuffing in the bird because the natural juices are intermixed with the breading. There’s something about the flavoring that cannot be…

These people vote. These people are very dedicated to turning out the vote in their favor. Their movement is called "My God Votes" for a reason and their goal is to vote in Christofascism.
But if there is one constant among the rotating array of churches, bands, and worshippers, it is a deep and urgent belief that America is in spiritual disrepair, and that Christ is the only remedy. Many worshippers believe they are called to spark a national revival of faith that starts at statehouses and with the lawmakers who work in them. “Jesus said, ‘Go into all the world,’ ” James Buntrock, a Houston pastor and the executive director of My God Votes, told me. “He didn’t neglect or exclude the world of politics or government. And God has a side on every issue. He’s not a Democrat; he’s not a Republican. But he has a side.”
...
Buntrock and Glorious Way’s lead pastor, John Greiner, launched the organization My God Votes, with a mission to “WAKE UP THE CHURCH and steer our nation back to God,” according to the group’s website. The first Pursuit Night was held in 2023, and within a year, the group had the backing of a slate of Republicans in Harris County: Its 2024 gala included table sponsorships by state Senator Paul Bettencourt, state Representative Tom Oliverson, Harris County Commissioner Tom Ramsey, and Toth, whom Buntrock personally credited with the idea for My God Votes. Timothy Barton, whose group, WallBuilders, has been crucial to mainstreaming the idea that church-state separation is a myth, also gave a presentation at the dinner.  “Jesus has delegated his authority to us, the believers, and we’re supposed to operate with his authority on this earth,” Buntrock said that evening, before charging lawmakers to help carry out that aim. “Those who serve in office are called God’s ministers for good. He is a minister to execute wrath on those who practice evil, and so we have a line of defense that we elect and put in office to execute wrath. They call him God’s avenger.” In Texas, the growth of Pursuit Nights has coincided with a slate of bills and reforms that would infuse more Christianity into public life. In 2023, Texas lawmakers, emboldened by a series of recent U.S. Supreme Court decisions, allowed school districts to replace counselors with unlicensed religious chaplains. On the first day of the 2025 legislative session, Christian activists and some lawmakerssaid they had to engage in “spiritual warfare” with their political opponents, opposing the separation of church and state. Those calls continued that evening, at the first Pursuit Night of the session. “Pray for the fear of the Lord to come into this place,” Landon Schott, who pastors Mercy Culture Church, in Fort Worth, said from the auditorium stage that evening. “Let the fear of the Lord return to Austin. In Jesus’s name.”
They recognize just how much power comes from motivating like-minded people to organize and change laws.
These are the people who vote.
Will you?

You cross paths with a devout Wallbuilder brigade from Servia. They are pushing mine carts while building a high wall for the planet. A girl catches your eye. The color of the gravel behind her reflects on her chestnut hair. She is holding a heap of gleaming minerals with wood and gold mixed inside. John Whitehouse at MMFA:
On July 9, Oklahoma’s superintendent of public instruction Ryan Walters announced that a number of people — many of them key figures in right-wing media — would be rewriting the social studies curriculum in the state.
The list includes right-wing hosts with ties to Walters like Steve Deace, Dennis Prager, and Stacy Washington. Also included is Kevin Roberts, the head of The Heritage Foundation, which has organized Project 2025.
Walters announced an “executive review committee” to revise Oklahoma’s social studies curriculum. Members include Dennis Prager, Robert Pondiscio, David Barton, Kevin Roberts, Everett Piper, John Dwyer, David Goodwin, Mark Bauerlein, Steve Deace, and Stacy Washington. [Oklahoma State Department of Education, 7/9/24]
After implementing a mandate that the state’s public schools teach the Bible, Walters claimed that right-wing commentator and pastor Jackson Lahmeyer, who has promised to “embrace Christian nationalism” and previously ran for U.S. Senate in Oklahoma, encouraged him to implement such a policy last year. [Media Matters, 7/8/24]
Walters has approved PragerU Kids — which is widely criticized for pushing right-wing propaganda, such as including distorted histories about slavery in its history lessons — as curriculum for Oklahoma public schools. In one supposedly educational video, for instance, a cartoon version of Fredrick Douglass describes slavery as a “compromise to achieve something great.” [MSNBC, 9/7/23; Media Matters, 9/8/23; NBC, 8/10/23]
Dennis Prager is an anti-LGBTQ pundit who has hosted The Dennis Prager Show since 1999. In 2009, he founded the conservative nonprofit organization PragerU, which publishes short videos on political and international issues.
David Barton is a pseudo-historian and Christian nationalist well-known for spreading the idea that the country was supposed to be a Christian nation. Barton is the founder of WallBuilders.
Kevin Roberts is the president of the Heritage Foundation, the right-wing think tank leading Project 2025.
Steve Deace is a host for BlazeTV who has made many anti-abortion and anti-LGBTQ remarks.
Stacy Washington is a commentator, radio host, and Air Force veteran who has appeared in many right-wing outlets. She was formerly a host of a program aired on American Family Radio, the radio arm of extreme anti-LGBTQ group American Family Association, before the network culled much of its programming and its dedicated Urban Family Communications network.
Right-wing indoctrination artist Oklahoma Superintendent of Public Schools Ryan Walters announced that he is having a team rewrite the state’s social studies curriculum, with many of its names right-wing media figures such as Everett Piper, serial history revisionist David Barton, indoctrination mill head Dennis Prager, and pundit Steve Deace.

As the interregnum without a speaker of the House came to an end last month, people from across the political spectrum came together, in a rare show of unity, to ask a single question: Who in the world is Mike Johnson? But amidst the general bewilderment, one group of conservative evangelicals with a radical cause immediately recognized the new speaker’s name.
For the last 10 years, the “Convention of States” movement has sought to remake the Constitution and force a tea party vision of the framers’ intent upon America. This group wants to wholesale rewrite wide swaths of the U.S. Constitution in one fell swoop. In the process, they hope to do away with regulatory agencies like the FDA and the CDC, virtually eliminate the federal government’s ability to borrow money, and empower state legislatures to override federal law.
As far-fetched as this idea might sound, the movement is gaining traction — and now, it believes, it has a friend in the speaker of the House.
“Speaker Mike Johnson has long been a supporter of Convention of States,” Mark Meckler, co-founder of Convention of States Action (COSA), told me when I asked about Johnson’s ascension. “It shows that the conservative movement in America is united around COS and recognizes the need to rein in an out-of-control federal government which will never restrain itself.”
“I would never have dreamed we would end up with Mike Johnson of Louisiana as speaker of the House,” Rick Green, the founder of evangelical education outfit Patriot Academy, which heavily promotes COS, gushed on his “Wallbuilders” podcast the day after Johnson was elevated to his new role. “It feels like, to me, a potential real turning point.” His co-hosts, Tim and David Barton, agreed. “This is literally the kind of guy that we’ve been praying for to be in that position,” Tim replied. “We’ve known this guy for years. He’s been a friend for years.”
“He’s tough, but he’s nice,” David Barton, Tim’s father, said later in the podcast. The elder Barton is the architect of an alternative, evangelical version of U.S. history that is at the core of the COSA movement, and someone Johnson has cited as a major influence. “[Johnson will] make you smile,” Barton continued, “before he hits you in the mouth so that he won’t bloody your lips when he breaks your teeth.”

Is There a Disconnect Between Church-goers and Their Pastors?
Pastors have seemed to back away from teaching biblical worldviews from the pulpit, primarily because of their perception that their congregants don’t want to hear it. This has resulted in a growing disconnect between Christian conservatives and their pastors.
Interestingly enough, a new survey titled “What God’s People Want to Know,” commissioned by WallBuilders and the American Culture & Faith Institute, shows conservative Christians actually want to hear more about political issue-related teaching from the pulpit. The fascinating survey asked moderate and conservative Christians about the types of issue-related teaching they wanted to hear from their pastors during the 2014 and 2016 elections.
Contrary to the notion of many pastors that religion has no place in the public square, the findings demonstrate that Christians who hold politically conservative views believe that churches should be more involved in the political process—the opposite message we hear from progressives and the media.
Two out of three respondents said they want more information from their church about what the Bible teaches in relation to current social and political issues. At least 80% of the respondents indicated their greatest need for information related to the following six issues of “high importance”: Abortion (91%); Religious persecution/liberty (86%); Poverty (85%); Cultural restoration (83%); Sexual identity (82%); and Israel (80%).
Tumblr media
Sadly, the survey also found that one out of every five conservative pastors did not even encourage their congregants to vote in November 2014. It is also alarming that one-quarter of conservative pastors did not teach their congregants biblical principles about important social and political issues during the six months preceding the election.
The results also underscored just how tone deaf the media and political candidates are when it comes to the issues most important to conservative Christians. Topics frequently pushed by the media, such as healthcare, foreign policy, immigration reform, jobs/unemployment, taxes, gun rights, military spending, and campaign finance reform, did not make the list of issues that mattered.
What does all this mean and why is it important? The survey reinforces what we have already seen: there is a correlation between the declining spiritual and social health of America and the lack of engagement of our pastors. In the words of the survey summary, “The nation has been demonstrably worse off ever since pastors chose to disconnect faith from politics and governance. America urgently needs cultural direction from those whom God has placed in positions of spiritual leadership. One way of providing such leadership is by shaping the thinking of Christians by teaching them foundational biblical principles related to pressing social and political issues of the day.” To that, we say Amen!
So, what can congregants do to encourage their pastors to preach on what the Bible says about social and cultural matters? Try telling your pastor the following:
You’re interested in learning what the Bible teaches on the topics and would consider them appropriate subjects for the pastor to teach from the pulpit.
You have appreciated the times when the pastor has addressed current issues from a biblical perspective, and you hope to experience more of that kind of teaching on a broader range of issues.
You believe learning about what the Bible says in relation to current issues of importance – beyond abortion and same-sex marriage—would be a significant contribution to the body of Christ.
Tumblr media
Pastors have more than an opportunity to teach on these matters; they have a responsibility and calling to do so. While pushback from some congregants is likely, especially those who are more theologically moderate, addressing these issues may serve as an impetus to developing a more biblically centered worldview among many people in the congregation.

Christian leaders  in Mara Lago
On Wednesday, faith leaders from across the country gathered at the White House to pray with President Donald Trump in the Oval Office. The leaders, including William Wolfe of the Center for Baptist Leadership and Robert Jeffries of First Baptist Dallas, expressed their honor in supporting the president through prayer. David Barton, founder of WallBuilders, praised Trump for his support of faith-based initiatives and policies reflecting family and values. Barton also highlighted Trump's efforts to educate the public on the Bible's role in the nation's founding. In February, Trump signed an executive order establishing the White House Faith Office, which will consult with faith leaders on matters such as defending religious liberty. This meeting reflected the ongoing collaboration between Trump and faith communities, emphasizing his administration's commitment to religious issues. Later that evening, Trump's Mar-a-Lago residence hosted the Catholics for Catholics Gala, where prominent figures like Gen. Michael Flynn and political consultant Roger Stone were set to speak. This series of events underscores the president's continued engagement with religious leaders and his administration's focus on faith-based policy initiatives.
This is important to Christians because it highlights the ongoing relationship between faith leaders and government, particularly in defending religious liberty and promoting values aligned with Christianity. The president’s openness to prayer and collaboration with faith-based groups reflects a recognition of the role religion plays in shaping moral and social policies. The establishment of the White House Faith Office shows a commitment to ensuring that Christian values, such as the importance of family and religious freedom, are prioritized in public policy. For many Christians, these actions offer reassurance that their beliefs are respected and protected at the highest levels of government. It’s a reminder that, as believers, we are called to engage in both spiritual and civic life, advocating for the values that align with God’s teachings.
As a Christian who isn't necessarily interested in "help" from a government system we strive to keep a distance from (for both personal and constitutional reasons) why is this appealing to. me? I have long been of the opinion that keeping government at bay is best done by keeping them always in view.
Let me share a story with you at this point. In a quiet town, there was a church that had been a cornerstone of the community for generations. Pastor Samuel was deeply committed to preaching the Word of God and guiding his congregation in faith. He often spoke of the importance of maintaining the church's independence from government control, a principle his ancestors had fought for when the country was founded.
“Separation of church and state is not just a legal matter,” Pastor Samuel would say from the pulpit. “It’s about the freedom to preach the truth without fear of interference or compromise. We must guard this freedom for ourselves and future generations.”
However, as time passed, Pastor Samuel noticed subtle changes in the world around him. Unchristian organizations began to rise in influence, pushing their agendas in public spaces and even in the halls of government. They began to challenge the church’s right to speak freely, using legal and societal pressure to silence voices that proclaimed biblical truths. These organizations aimed to create an environment where the church could no longer preach the Gospel openly, fearing that God’s Word would disrupt their control over the culture.
One evening, as he prayed, Pastor Samuel realized that while the church must remain independent from the government to preserve its mission, it could not afford to ignore the role the government played in protecting religious freedom. The government, though flawed, had a duty to defend the church from these external threats that sought to silence the Word of God.
“We must pray for our leaders,” Pastor Samuel thought, “and stay vigilant. The separation of church and state is vital, but we must always be watchful, knowing that the government stands as a protector of our right to proclaim truth in the face of opposition.”
Critical State Supreme Court seat at risk!
A pivotal Wisconsin Supreme Court race is set for April 1, where former Planned Parenthood lawyer Susan Crawford and ex-state Attorney General Brad Schimel are competing for a 10-year term. This race holds significant stakes for abortion laws, with the outcome determining whether a liberal or conservative majority will influence key cases, including one challenging the state's 1849 pro-life law. Pro-life groups stress the election's importance, highlighting that a liberal win could solidify abortion rights in the state constitution.
The state’s high court previously ruled on the 1849 law, which prohibits most abortions but faces legal challenges. The court is also set to hear a case from Planned Parenthood requesting a constitutional right to abortion. Schimel, a pro-life advocate, opposes abortion expansion, while Crawford, with a history representing Planned Parenthood, seeks to expand access to abortion.
The race is a crucial test of voter turnout, with conservatives hoping to preserve pro-life laws. Schimel advocates for judicial objectivity, contrasting Crawford's stance to expand abortion rights. The election’s outcome could dramatically impact Wisconsin’s legal landscape, with pro-life advocates mobilizing voters to ensure the future of state laws aligns with their values. National pro-life groups are heavily invested, underscoring the high stakes in this closely contested race.
The Wisconsin Supreme Court race is critical for Christians who defend the rights of the unborn. The outcome could shape the future of abortion laws in the state, with liberal candidate Susan Crawford advocating for expanded abortion rights and possibly establishing a constitutional right to abortion. This is more than just an abortion debate; it’s a battle for religious freedom and Christian values. If we cannot protect the most vulnerable—unborn children—what’s to stop society from disregarding other rights we hold dear? Crawford’s campaign is rooted in liberal, anti-Christian ideologies, and her claims of neutrality are merely a tactic to sway voters. Historically, liberals who push progressive agendas rarely shift once in power. As Christians, we must recognize that the target is not just the unborn, but our very ability to practice and defend our faith. The outcome of this race will have lasting consequences for us all. Don’t forget to vote on April 1.
The Pope creates a wave?
Did you ever watch a drop of water hit the surface of a pond and then spread out in concentric waves, growing smaller until they eventually disappear into the surrounding water? It’s a fascinating visual of impact, the ripple effect fading away, merging with the water and ceasing to be. Sometimes, I wonder if this is what’s happening to the Protestant faith in our country today.
Not long ago, phrases like Sola Fide, Sola Gratia, and Sola Scriptura—Faith Alone, Grace Alone, and Scripture Alone—were well known to most Protestants. These Latin terms weren’t just theological phrases; they defined our identity as Protestants and distinguished us from other branches of Christianity, particularly Catholicism. Yet, in today’s world, how many young Protestants can confidently explain these foundational principles? My guess is shockingly few. The waves that once separated us from other world religions are becoming harder to see these days, and slowly, it feels like they are merging with the surrounding waters of secular culture and diluted theology.
It’s a troubling thought, especially when considering how many non-Catholic Christians now view Pope Francis as a relatable and viable leader of Christianity as a whole. The media is captivated with stories of his failing health, even though for most Protestants, the Pope’s health should be a non-issue from a theological viewpoint. It’s as though the defining lines between Protestantism and Catholicism are fading into the background.
The unsettling truth is that the Protestant faith, like the drop of water, may have lost its ability to make waves. We are no longer causing the stir we once did. There was a time when the differences between Protestants and Catholics were clear and sharply defined. Now, many Protestants seem to lack the conviction or understanding of what makes our faith distinct.
Perhaps, we’ve become so accustomed to blending into the broader Christian or even secular landscape that we’ve forgotten the importance of maintaining our unique identity. Without clear waves, it becomes difficult to maintain our distinctiveness, and we risk becoming just another part of the larger, undifferentiated body of faith that no longer stands out for its principles. If we cannot recognize the importance of Sola Fide, Sola Gratia, and Sola Scriptura, what happens to the very foundation of our faith? Are we allowing our Christian identity to fade away, just like the ripples from that initial drop? The question isn’t just about what’s happening to Protestantism now; it’s about what will happen to our faith if there are no longer waves of change to impress our core beliefs.
And that’s what’s on my mind this week. Tell me what you think. You can contact me at [email protected]

HAPPY COLUMBUS DAY
#ColumbusDay
#columbus
Monday, October 14th is Columbus Day. Traditionally
observed on the second Monday in October, Columbus Day
commemorates the landing of Columbus in the “New World”
(on a small island off Florida) on October 12, 1492.
Although Christopher Columbus clearly was not the first European to visit the “New World” (Vikings had traveled here centuries earlier), he first widely publicized, and thus “discovered,” its existence to the Europeans. Columbus undertook his first voyage facing the prospect of great danger. The professional opinion of that day not only assured him of the impossibility of his proposed endeavor, but it also warned him that dragons and death awaited him beyond the charted waters.
With such advice coming from the intellectual leaders of his day, his decision to embark on this unprecedented journey must have been difficult. So, then, why did he set out? Columbus himself answered that question in his own writings.
[O]ur Lord opened to my understanding (I could sense His hand upon me) so it became clear to me that it [the voyage] was feasible. . . . All those who heard about my enterprise rejected it with laughter, scoffing at me. . . . Who doubts that this illumination was from the Holy Spirit? I attest that He [the Holy Spirit], with marvelous rays of light, consoled me through the holy and sacred Scriptures . . . they inflame me
with a sense of great urgency. . . . No one should be afraid to take on any enterprise in the name of our Savior if it is right and if the purpose is purely for His holy service. . . .”* (Wallbuilders)
Do you want to have a sense of purpose and satisfaction in your life? The choice is between a life that lasts 70-80 years or one that lasts for eternity. Right now, will you receive the free gift that Jesus offers to make your life count for all eternity?
You can do this by:
1) Recognizing you have sinned (lied, stolen, & been angry [same as murder].
2) Repent of your sins.
3) Realize Jesus is the only one that can save you.
4) Relinquish control of your life to the LORD.
