The WowCube is like a Rubik’s Cube with displays on it. It’s a simple device, and it is unique because it was conceived five years ago by a then-13-year-old boy and then built into a company by his father. It was a surprisingly simple idea, like a Rubik’s Cube where you could play games on it. That was the idea. Who would have expected it would turn out so good.”

Ilya Osipov said in an interview with GamesBeat that he thought about it for a few days and then he called a patent lawyer to do research on such inventions. They couldn’t find anything else, and proceeded with the prototyping around the end of 2016. They started the company in April 2017. In 2018, Ilya Osipov showed prototypes at events and saw tremendous interest in the product. One investor put money into the company.

“It is not technologically difficult to do, but our challenge was building it all from scratch, layer by layer,” he said. “It is a very unusual device with 24 screens and eight microprocessors.”

With that complexity, it’s a challenge to make the device cost effective for the youth market. One of the realities was that the team could create a cube with 2-by-2 squares on each side, rather than 3-by-3 like in a Rubik’s Cube.

“With 3-by-3, it would be way more expensive,” Ilya Osipov said.

The WowCube entertainment system is in the shape of a cube made of eight connected modules. Twenty-four high-resolution screens cover the cube, converting the six side’s into a gameplay field. You control the cube on each side by twisting, tilting, tapping and shaking — much like with a Rubik’s Cube.

It delivers a unique user experience of interacting with the digital world as if it is a real object. Cubios is working on more than 30 different games: arcade games, puzzles, logic and strategy games, gamified educational apps, and many more for players of all ages.

In September, the company will launch a preorder campaign and open the software development kit (SDK) to third-party developers. WowCube has six approved patents and three pending applications. The patented magnetic connectors enable a continuous flow of information between the autonomous modules, ensuring a seamless gaming experience. A built-in gyroscope (it’s a beta version) supports a realistic response to gamers’ motions.

The WowCube has won accolades such as the Last Gadget Standing, Edison Award, CES Innovation Award, and the Muse Design Award. The company said it has interest from distributors in 18 countries with preliminary orders for 155,000 devices, with the highest demand coming from Japan.

That was tough for workers in part because of the cold messaging from Agapitov in a letter to the workers. Part of the controversy was that Xsolla used AI to determine if individuals were productive enough to remain employed. The company later said it was trying to be transparent and make sure it held people accountable in its processes.

Ilya Osipov said his own company now has more than 30 employees across many different time zones and regions. His son has stayed involved in the project, often studying for school at the company’s office.

“I’m not a technical guy, but I believe my son will be,” Ilya Osipov said. “He really likes to communicate with people. It’s been great for him to participate in something that was built from scratch and can be sold in stores. It’s a great experience.”

We Test It! FiTech’s dual quad throttle bodies on a big inch Hemi

Given all its history as an iconic performance engine, a Hemi just doesn’t look right without multiple carbs bolted on top. But, even if you are unapologetically old school, it is hard to deny the advantages of modern fuel injection—whether its easy starting all year long, improved fuel economy, better part-throttle performance, and quite often, more top-end power. Plus, whenever you work with a dual-carb setup, it seems like you are always fighting a running battle to keep the two carbs properly tuned to work together correctly.

So when Prestige Motorsports in Concord, NC, began putting together a big-inch Hemi with all new components, they knew the engine needed the dual-carb look, but they didn’t want to saddle a freshly built hot rod with, well, carbs.

Instead, they decided to go with Fitech Fuel Injection’s dual throttle body fuel injection kit to keep that classic look while still enjoying all the benefits of modern fuel injection. Fitech has two levels of what they call their 2×4 kits. The basic kit can handle up to a very healthy 625 horsepower, but the full-bore kit doubles down with the capability to handle 1,200 horsepower and power adders. The recipe Prestige was putting together for the Hemi build was to be around 700 horsepower naturally aspirated before potentially adding a power adder down the line, so when it came time to choose their 2×4 kit they went full lumberyard with the 1,200-horsepower capable setup featuring the option to control the ignition timing as well.

Fitech has made its name in the industry by producing fuel injection systems that are engineered to be as simple as possible to install and use. The systems bolt up to a carbureted manifold; they include the ECU, some sensors built into the throttle body, and a fully labeled wiring harness. Most units are up and running after connecting just four wires. Like many modern systems on the market today, the Fitech units are self-learning. They do not require a laptop to do any programming, instead a simple handheld controller is used to set your initial parameters and make small adjustments. Fitech’s is touch enabled, which is pretty cool. The 1,200 horsepower 2×4 system Prestige installed (part number 30064) does have more options, but it doesn’t have to be more complicated to install and get working.

The engine is a classic Hemi going together with all new components. By the time you read this, it should already be at home in a restomodded 1971 Cuda. The build consists of an Indy Cylinder Head aluminum block mated with a pair of Edelbrock heads and Edelbrock’s single plane dual-quad intake manifold. Forged Eagle rods mount to an Eagle crankshaft with 4.5 inches of stroke, and JE pistons are attached at the end of those rods to fit a 4.5-inch bore. Overall, that comes out to 572 inches of displacement.

The valvetrain is controlled by a Comp Cams solid roller with 270/280 degrees of duration at 0.050-inch lift, and 0.640/0.621-inche of total valve lift on a 110-degree centerline. BAM lifters activate a set of rockers from Indy Cylinder Head. Finishing out the hard parts are a Milodon oil pan, MSD distributor and a March Performance serpentine pulley kit.

The 2×4 system is made to work with Roots-style superchargers, but the dual throttle bodies will bolt right up to just about any dual quad intake manifold, including tunnel ram intakes, for naturally aspirated applications. That proved true on the Edelbrock intake Prestige is using. One Fitech throttle body includes the ECU and necessary sensors, so it’s essentially the brains of the operation. The second throttle body works as a slave, firing its injectors as instructed by the main unit. This actually makes things quite simple. With this method, you just set up the throttle linkage so that the butterflies on both throttle bodies work in tandem. There’s no opening the primary earlier than the secondary to avoid stumbles like you often have to with carbs.

And although it is possible to do precise tuning with a laptop, we didn’t find that necessary on the Hemi. We input the basic engine parameters on Fitech’s included touch screen controller, including the number of cylinders, total cubic inches, aggressiveness of the cam (on a scale of one to four), your preferred rev limit and idle speed once the engine is warm. After that, it is as simple as firing up the engine and allowing it to idle while the Fitech programming zeros in the right fuel map.

Overall, Prestige Motorsports got great results on the dyno. The engine was making 701.5 horsepower and climbing when we pulled the throttle back 6,300 rpm. It also made 677.6 ft/lbs of torque at 5,100 rpm. It was all on pump gas and not a single second was spent unscrewing fuel bowls to change jets, or adjusting throttle linkages.

In the old days, big-inch Hemis with dual carbs were notoriously finicky when it came to getting them to run smoothly on the street, but that’s no longer an issue with RFI systems like this one from Fitech. No wonder fuel injection is catching on among car crafters.

We’ve seen Fitech’s throttle body fuel injection systems in action before and been impressed with how well they are engineered Besides looking cool, the company’s dual throttle body system follows the same design protocol: It is one of the most straightforward methods for putting two four barrels on any engine we’ve seen.

This isn’t an engine build story, but we couldn’t resist showing you some of the guts. The foundation of this build is an aluminum Indy Maxx block from Indy Cylinder Head. The cam is a solid roller from Comp Cams with 270/280 degrees of duration at 0.050-inch lift and 0.640/0.621 total valve lift. The pistons are custom slugs from JE.

The Hemi heads are aluminum Edelbrock Victor Jr’s, and the distinctive purple rockers are from Indy Cylinder Head. Edelbrock’s single-plane intake is designed for dual carbs and not fuel injection, but Fitech’s 2×4 fuel injection system is engineered to bolt right up without any modifications.

The final installation in the ‘Cuda will be a lot cleaner than what you see here on the dyno, but this shot allows you to see the fuel line plumbing. Prestige is running the Fitech units as a return system. Both throttle bodies are fed from the left side (top in this photo) and return fuel on the right. You can feed fuel into either the front or back of each throttle body, and Fitech also provides the same option for the return lines.

The rear throttle body contains the brains for the system, and the throttle body up front is essentially the slave. We like that you don’t have to mount a separate box containing the ECU somewhere on the firewall or inner fenders. Besides the ECU, the rear unit also contains the sensors, vacuum ports and wiring harness.

This electrical connector allows the rear throttle body to communicate to the slave unit up front to read the throttle position sensor up front and fire the injectors.

Setup is as simple as dialing in a few parameters on the touchscreen controller, such as the number of cylinder, total displacement, camshaft aggressiveness, rev limit and preferred idle speed. After firing the engine, the self-learning ECU will dial in the fuel map from there to get the engine running at optimum efficiency.

Besides initial setup, the touchscreen controller can be used for additional tuning. This photo shows a screen allowing the user to set their ideal air/fuel ratios at various rpm levels and throttle positions.

The kit uses a single wide-band O2 sensor to monitor active air/fuel ratios when the engine is running. If you don’t already have an O2 bung in your exhaust system, you will need to weld one in somewhere downstream of the collector. However, if you aren’t comfortable welding on your exhaust, Fitech includes a bung kit that doesn’t require welding. Simply cut a hole in the exhaust pipe with a step drill then use hose clamps to secure the included O2 bung plate and gasket over the hole and screw in the sensor.

The wiring harness includes options for powering electric radiator fans, nitrous controls, and even a kick-up that increases idle speed when the air conditioning compressor is running. None of those are required to be hooked up before you get running. All we needed were these three wires: a tach input, 12-volt power, and ignition. There’s not even a ground wire because Fitech uses the throttle body as the ground.

On the dyno, the engine fired right away and quickly settled in with a smooth idle. It only required a few part-throttle pulls before you could tell the fuel maps were dialing in and we were ready to make power. Overall, this 572 Hemi made 701.5 horsepower at 6,300 rpm and 677.6 ft/lbs of torque at 5,100—and the owner will never have to change jets or a power valve again.
