Final pictures of the Halloween Dream pair, a commission for @buttercupyarnart. Unfortunately, my husband decided that since we were out of color catcher sheets (used to catch bleeding dye) and instead just used salt to set the dye and prevent future bleeding, he's going to wash it anyway. The black fabric bled everywhere, and salt set it, as well as heat from the dryer. There is nothing I can do, and I am rightfully angered by his carelessness.

We use a laundromat, which is expensive even though it's the lowest cost one he could find. It's why I don't prewash fabric. When we have our own washing machine*, this won't be an issue.

VTM OC Haven Tour: Dottie

To celebrate reaching 100 followers on Dottie's blog, I decided to give a tour of my OC'S haven.

1. Dottie lives in a studio apartment where the kitchen, living room, and dining room are all one space. Dottie has a small kitchen with pink utensils and kitchenware. Noticeably, her kitchen is barely used. Her kitchen is mostly for show as she hunts animals for blood.

2. Dottie's living room/ dining room has a surprisingly large couch that she got when she was mortal. When Dottie was human, she frequently had friends over and loved hosting parties. However, she rarely has people visit to protect her from being found by vampire hunters. She still has a small TV without an internet connection to watch the news.

3. As Dottie doesn't eat regular food, she converted her dining room table into a sewing station in the corner. Ever since she became primogen, she hasn't had much time to sew new clothes. When she has free time, she repairs clothes that she ripped during combat.

4. In Dottie's bedroom, she has a 4 poster queen bed with a canopy. Like all her windows, she uses blackout curtains to keep out daylight. Her bedroom is also where she keeps her sanrio plush collection. It's the most calming space in her haven.

5. On a bookshelf in her bedroom, Dottie keeps her manga collection. Her favorites include, Ouran High School Host Club, Sailor Moon, and Rose of Versailles. She usually buys her books from her coterie's bookshop/bar.

6. Dottie's bathroom has a combined shower and bathtub. One of her favorite ways to unwind after a long night is a warm bath or shower. She gets dirt and blood more often than you'd think. Fortunately, her washing machine is also in the same room. She can just drop her dirty clothes in the machine before she bathes.

Vikram washed his hands in the sink, burning hot water tracing down the delicate details of manicured nails and taut tendons. The smell of the soap grounded him, cinnamon and apple, and when he splashed his face he felt like he'd been caught in an autumnal rainshower. 

He patted his face dry.

Doctor Bedlam was running as fast as he could, lungs aching, heart pumping. The clatter of his lazer rifle against his back would definitely leave an ugly bruise tomorrow. Even as he ran, he did his best to reload, a loud clunk accompanying the pneumatic hiss of the stock opening, the depleted plasmic charge clattering across the asphalt. Despite his nerves and the incessant beat of his boots on the pavement, his hands were as steady as always, and the gun was promptly reloaded.

The liquor cabinet would need some restocking soon. Fingertips caught on the rim of a tequila bottle, stroking across the label of his favorite wine. Part of him just wanted to gargle Everclear and then pass out, face-down. Instead, he plucked up an oddball; some nice dark rum. 

Four fingers in a glass, with a chunk of clear ice, and it was gone in seconds, some leftover chilled liquid clinging to the whiskers of his goatee.

"OTTO!" Bedlam screeched, the rifle propped up on his hip. "I'LL FUCKING KILL YOU IF YOU HURT HIM."

Vikram didn't know why he was wasting time surfing through channels. Nothing held his attention. There were some real classics on, too, some sitcoms from his childhood, a few great blockbuster hits. Even his absolute favorites-- the first Terminator, How It's Made, I Robot-- nada. He turned off the TV. More than he had with the shows flickering by, he was locked in focus, staring back at his own darkened reflection.

Even from his spot so many meters away, Doctor Bedlam's visor HUD could capture the action. Mr. Brawn was slumped over on his knees, one arm blown off. His eyes were slightly open but it was clear he wasn't online. Why a fellow villain like The Judicator would take the android, Bedlam had no idea. All he knew was that The Judicator had hurt his lover and was trying to do more damage, even as Bedlam screamed his vocal chords raw.

Taking the elevator felt silly but Vikram didn't feel like using the stairs. The ride down beneath the mansion felt longer than ever. When the musak kicked on all of a sudden, some Queen song he didn't feel like recognizing, he punched the access panel hard enough to both silence the speaker and leave harsh red abrasions on his knuckles. Vikram didn't feel the pain.

The Judicator's head seemed to jump from his body. It'd been his own fault. You didn't listen to a maniac shrieking threats and then begin to place a grenade in said psycho's lover's mouth. Not that he knew, or anyone knew. To them, Mr. Brawn was just a machine. To Bedlam, he was his life.

The lights in the lab flickered on, almost sickly in hue, but perhaps that was just Vikram's vision swimming. He loathed seeing Otto like this; naked, bared, damaged and offline on the fucking operating table. It wasn't even his lack of skin that was unnerving. The doctor knew he'd love the android just as much if he barely resembled a humanoid thing. It wasn't the body but the soul he adored.

Hesitant fingertips ran down Otto's chest. He was repaired, his new arm set aside on another table to finish calibrating. The next step was to synthesize his bulk in lab-grown flesh. Maybe Vikram would give him a slight tan this time, or freckles, or a cute little "birthmark" only he'd be privy to.

Doctor Bedlam didn't only kill when he finally hit his breaking point. He left behind such gruesome gore that the news channels knew better than to report on them, on the very rare occasion that it happened.

The Judicator wouldn't just be beheaded, left steaming on the asphalt with how powerful the beam had been. Bedlam made sure to beat his corpse into ground beef before shoving his own grenade into his open chest cavity. Bedlam didn't even move, facing the full force of the explosion from only a few feet away. He had that much trust in his own armor. Plus, the heat, the light, the flying fleshy debris; it grounded him. That burning white bloodthirsty mania only began to calm when he couldn't recognize what was a limb or organ anymore.

Leaning over, Vikram pressed a delicate kiss to Otto's mouth, or at least the metallic mandibles that made it. He stroked his hands, no longer red with blood, down his cranium, petting his chest, his one shoulder.

"Love you," He whispered, his scowl finally abating after so many hours. "See you soon, okay?"

you could take it all at face value (he liked trying on new clothes because they're something different!) or you can really mine the psychology behind it (issues with not having the freedom to choose his own looks most of his life, the desire to try on personas because he doesn't know who he is, wanting to torment daniel because he knows daniel drools over a man in tight high waisted jeans- the possibilities are endless!!)

What are you all do to your clothes that it's ruined after a few washes?? Like how?

I'm going to be honest with you all, I have 0 high fashion items, I can not afford it, all of mine are fast fashion. I have a dress that was my mum's 20 year ago, last month my sister tried it on, and the zip gave up, but my mom, the angel she is, repaired it, and that dress looks like brand new, nothing wrong with the fabric, or the seam or anything, and that's a 20+ dress. And I love that dress, I wear and wash it a lot. Guys I have secondhand shein top that's doing fine, I'm not wearing it everyday, that's true, but it's in good condition. Many are second hand clothes, and all fast fashion. They got no problem after many washes.

I swear, I think I threw away some of my jeans (I mean I still kept them bc who knows what projects I'm going to use them) bc they ripped, but like after 5 years, and I got them when I was 12 and I grew 20cm during that period, and they were fine for so long (they grew with me or idk). No handquilting today. I have to pay attention to the dryer because my husband went to ths laundromat this morning.

We have a dryer, but our washing machine died awhile ago. We're gonna replace it with a Speed Queen washer, the type used in laundromats, but it's ~$1000, aka not anytime soon. We had looked into getting the other repaired, but water got into the engine due to poor design, and all the transmission fluid flooded out. Even if we repaired it, the same thing would've happened due to poor design. Until we get a Speed Queen washer, clothes get washed at the laundromat and dried at home.

If I do any handquilting, I'll end up ignoring everything else. Not Okay. So I'm playing DAI and drying clothes. Tomorrow is DnD night, so I'll work on it tomorrow so as to not bother my husband and his players. I can't play ttrpgs because stage fright, noise, and Too Much. Plus, his players are more about combat and I'm more into storytelling. I like PCand console games, tyvm. Hamdquilting will keep me occupied.

There are no good, easy answers for appliances. The vast majority of them are garbage, regardless of price point, especially fridges. I prefer to go by which brands I can get serviced locally, which don't upcharge the parts to a ludicrous degree. So far we're doing okay with Whirlpool for our most recent fridge and washing machine. Speed queen for dryer, hands down, no question (their washing machines are less of a slam dunk for a variety of reasons, but we got a speed queen commercial dryer and I think it will probably outlive me). For microwaves, panasonic is probably the best cost/quality intersection. We just replaced one that lasted about a decade with another panasonic, it was about $150 at Costco. And dishwashers? You pays your money and you takes your chances.

I am now Never Samsung, Never LG specifically because of repairability issues. I do not buy those brands under any circumstances if I can possibly help it because the cost and difficulty of repair is ludicrous. Frigidaire seems to think that we eat our fridge shelves and did not include them in the warranty because they are "consumable", and then made them out of plastic that is not particularly durable in the cold. And cost like $70 per shelf to replace. The whirlpool fridge ice maker is sometimes iffy but for accessibility reasons we need through the door filtered water. If you can do without, avoid in-door ice makers and water dispensers whatever brand you get. Otherwise the whirlpool fridge has been great, and the ice maker fixes itself sometimes? The water always works so we just got a countertop ice maker and called it a day. Our LG washing machine looked perfect but replacing the motor was going to cost far more than it was worth. Our LG stove crapped out after about 4-5 years and the thing that broke was going to be NONSENSE expensive to fix, like $500. The whirlpool stove we have had for almost two decades has one burner out but i know what's wrong with it and the part to fix it is like $20. At some point someone will pull the thing out and we will fix that burner. Repairability.

And you don't have to repair things yourself to take that into account, it also matters if you pay someone else to fix it, because parts availability MATTERS. When the pump went out on our washer, they flat out didn't make it anymore. The thing was only like 9 years old. And no parts. Whirlpool, meanwhile has readily available parts and doesn't seem to change them on purpose to stop people from fixing things. YMMV.
