It’s not as big as the braille printer from the other day but it seems to weigh nearly as much! Launched in 1959 this is the Halina 35X camera made by Hong-Kong based company Haking. It fits in the palm of your hand yet still weighs a hefty 550 grams, pretty impressive. If you look closely you can see on the bottom an EMPIRE MADE imprint indicating it’s origins from British Hong Kong. Our recycling drive is in full swing and all sorts of interesting items are coming in…keep up the good work people! This here is a #Sharp Model RD-505 Solid State Tape Recorder, first released in 1966 at a retail price of approximately $125 (a little over $1,000 today). The Model RD-505 is an all-transistor, 2-Track, 2-Speed tape recorder with variable tone control, automatic AC/DC switchover for indoor-outdoor operation, and is surprisingly light at just over 4Kg, making it a truly portable device. We are only one day into Computation’s Waste Reduction Week event and already we have had some cool items come though our doors, like this #Compaq LTE Elite 4/75CX. One of the later versions of the Compaq LTE line of notebook computers, this machine was released in 1994 and features a 75 MHz #IntelDX4 processor, 8MB RAM, 340/510MB HDD, and a 9.5” display. When the first LTE was introduced in 1989 most portable computers were still very bulky - by being one of the the first to be approximately the size of a paper notebook, the LTE was partly responsible for spurring the use of the term “notebook computer”. Customer found out they had a defective #UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) when a fire in the office next door caused a power spike. We replaced the defective unit with a pair of Tripp Lite SMART1500LCD Line-Interactive UPS and all is secure again and took the opportunity to clean up their rack as well. UPSs see their battery capacity deteriorate over time, it is something that should be monitored occasionally as they generally protect equipment that is more costly than the UPS itself. When it comes to electrical equipment the guys here in the shop have pretty much seen it all - but not this! Released in 1984 the #Kodak #Kodavison Series 2000 was Kodak’s first foray into the exploding #camcorder market of the 80’s, coinciding with their introduction of the 8mm #cassette format. What really sets this camcorder apart from the pack is it’s accompanying “cradle”, a device that essentially becomes an instant #VCR through a single hookup with the camera. As cool as this is, it certainly didn’t come cheaply - in 1984 the camcorder cost $1,899 and the cradle an additional $199.
