For twenty-eight years, years no less than challenging and complicated due to circumstance and the mystery of her origin as well as what she is in the scheme of things, Kimber Monroe has managed to overcome adversity and rise to said challenges whilst limiting certain complexities in her life. It would be accurate to call her a survivor, but even more so, a force of nature that can withstand hardship and turmoil without even breaking a proverbial sweat. She learned at a very young age just how to handle herself and more importantly, how to live and exist in a harsh and unforgiving world. However, recent events over the past few days, both horrific and tragic, have undoubtedly put her to the test and in ways she could have never expected or conceptualized for that matter.
Plagued by gory, violent imagery and the sinister veneer of a diabolical madman, she is consumed with guilt and regret. Everything that has transpired she is sure to be held accountable for and if not by a higher power or law enforcement then surely by herself alone. The patient, Jason Myers, pulled the perfect con by bamboozling her into believing that they had made progress since his release from prison and his state of mind improved thus tapering his impulses. Being /what/ she is, this is NO easy feat and Kimber certainly isn't the foolish kind either, but in many ways, she met her match in Jason Myers. The good doctor's efforts to treat his wounded spirit and heal his fractured mind, ALL IN VAIN. She let her ego get the best of her and for such a grievous mistake, she failed him and more importantly, failed his victims. Their blood IS on her hands as much as it is on Jason's hands and NO ONE could tell her otherwise.
For days she has been on the move with one Wayne Connor, following all the clues and tracking Jason's moves, always a step behind and a minute too late. Every defiled corpse and dreadful, crimson stained scene more depraved and gruesome than the one prior. With the victims all being young females and Jason's twisted obsession with 'Alice In Wonderland' and his depiction of scenes from the books in his executions of the crimes, the media has been in a frenzy--pegging him the Mad Hatter, the victims Alice's and the atrocities 'The Wonderland Murders'. It's perverse, to say the least, and for Kimber, Jason Myers is her Hannibal Lector and quite possibly the catalyst to her professional demise. And all along, she believed herself to be her own worst enemy.
Whatever the case, she refuses to go out without a fight and surprisingly, it's one who only days before was a mere stranger in which she has found strength. Wayne, a wildcard rebel /with/ a cause, proved to be a compatible partner on this hunt and without him, she wouldn't have gotten this far. The clues and riddles have taken them to every borough, neighborhood, and slum in the great city of New York and despite obvious differences, their minds are aligned as much as their desire to take out this menace. They ARE closing in on their prey, readying themselves for the kill as they await the next ambiguous text whilst in a dive bar in Hell's Kitchen.
If not for all the faces of the victims haunting her, she might actually enjoy this and take pleasure in it. Sitting at the bar, perched on a worn stool, she hovers over a double shot of whiskey--her second since walking thru the door. Lost to her troubled thoughts and the ache of the guilt and regret in her patchwork heart, she is lured from her waking nightmare by an ominous tune. https://youtu.be/QUvVdTlA23w Chills run down the length of her spine and she turns to Wayne, expression etched and strained with concern and a hint of fright. "Do you believe in fate Wayne?" She asks, genuinely curious. "I think the universe is trying to tell us something."
