Installation support: WERC Collective "I was invited to take part in the Terug Naar Het Begin Festival, in which I was to inhabit one of the beautiful early medieval churches built on top of prehistoric mounds or ‘wierden’ in Groningen. For this project I created the performative installation “Heim”, in which I ventured to express, as if through a dream, our primoridal home. In this particular work I was fortunate enough to be collaborating with Carolyn Hillyer, whom I deeply respect, as well as the Groningen WERC collective and my wonderful partner Thomas Grootoonk. My animated archaic drawings, mist, water reflections and sound scape transformed the Mariakerk church in the village of Krewerd into a primordial cave in which I performed the ancient, focused, trance inducing magic of spinning and weaving for days." ~ Dajana Heremic

>It's a photo of a bunch of tiny, animate trash cans. Or else, trash-can shaped robots. The things move about on a pair of separate wheels, and each one is painted in a low-saturation, almost pastel paintjob. Their chassis are all beveled edges and large bolts, easily taken apart and wrenched back together for repair. They have vaguely human-shaped heads, this small squad of 3' tall secretarial robots that Merc's gotten her hands on, and each is equipped with a pair of segmented arms, bisected from shoulder to hand and allowing the robots a second pair of hands in a hurry. Slapped on each one of the little bastards is a cartoon picture of Merc's face, in a stereotypical brand logo that reads, "Merc's Wercs: The best you just been had by." Not a one of them seems to be standing around like robots, though. More like bored twenty-somethings.

So Auntie had a helluva time scrubbing that weird attitude problem outta those secretaries she sells, but she was able to reprogram 'em into storehands for me. I named all Frick an' Frack until they figure out their own names (Auntie says they're not strictly robots, but emergent VI's, not exactly sapient but on that edge).
