SCP-049 stirred from his slumber, the familiar scent of his cell filling his nostrils. He blinked once, twice— something felt different. Instinctively, his hand flew to his face. But instead of his mask's cold, comforting ceramic, his fingers brushed over... flesh?

Panic seized him.

The Plague Doctor scrambled to his feet and rushed to the mirror affixed to his cell's wall. Staring back at him was not the beak that had defined him for centuries, but a mouth. A human mouth. His dark eyes widened in disbelief.

"What... is this?" His voice came out softer, warmer, lacking the usual hollow echo. He bared his teeth at the mirror, moving his lips in a way he hadn't in centuries. His mind raced—had the pestilence done this to him? Was this a new kind of mutation, or some experiment the Foundation subjected him to?

He clenched his fists, anger simmering beneath the surface. Without his mask, without his beak, he felt... exposed. Vulnerable. But there was also a strange curiosity. He touched his lips again, experimentally parting them.

My assistant. Where's my assistant? What if she sees me like this?

The thought of her seeing him like this stirred a wave of emotion. Would she still look at him the same way? Would her fingers still trace his jaw, now that it was. bare, exposed to the world? He touched his lips again, imagining her doing the same.

A thought lingered, unexpected but insistent: he wondered how it would feel, to kiss her, to have his tongue on her. It was a notion he had dismissed before, the mask making such thoughts irrelevant. But now? The idea hung in his mind, both unsettling and intriguing.

He straightened his back, pushing the thoughts aside, though the traces of them remained like a whisper in the back of his mind. He had a mission to cleanse the world of the pestilence. But there was a part of him, the part that had been buried beneath the mask for so long, that now wondered if perhaps, just for a moment, he could indulge in the humanity he had long forsaken.

from the start there were high expectations in the household. and ozzy? they were ready to rise to it! soccer practice, got it! ace all your tests, easy! follow a specific routine to a t, whatever makes it easier for everyone else.

they went thru childhood being told what to do and they just... listened...like fr. there was never a rebel phase. there were no tantrums. ozzy just... wanted to do their best wanted his parents to be proud? :(

my weird ceramic bird collection. i've been told the two i originally bought are coffee creamer pourers, and the two in the front were sold as toothpick holders. i'm not convinced of either use. they were made in mid showa era japan. modern japanese households don't tend to make coffee at home, so i'd be really surprised if it was a thing in the 30s/40s, but there was also a kind of western boom so maybe? i really can't think of any typical japanese food-usages of these items but at the very least, i'm not sold on the creamer idea just yet. the one at the back left didn't have a description. sorry i didn't introduce him but i do love him very much. there's a bunch of species of birds by this company, although the blue one is by a mystery maker. i'm reluctant to brag about my collection too much because i'm not keen on attracting competition to buy up the limited supply of the remaining birds before i can get filthy rich and scoop up the rest. but i can't help but brag. these birds are my legacy.
